    Pok-e-to Plate ($12.50), Premium Brisket Sandwich ($10.95)
    Wendi K.

Given the rating, I was surprised as how good this was! The prices are great, the portions are huge, and the menu has plenty of variety (you can even pick a yummy dessert like banana pudding as a side). It's served cafeteria style. You can tell why it's packed with families here - there is something for everyone and it's inexpensive. They also have a self-serve pickle bar. I got the kid's plate (lol) called the Pok-e-To plate ($12.50) and it was plenty. I picked the burnt ends as the protein, then the potato salad and baked potato casserole as the sides. They also offer you texas toast and BBQ sauce. My friend got the brisket sandwich ($10.95) - you can pick lean or marbled brisket too! The burnt ends were definitely dry but still enjoyable. The sides were decadent. The staff is super friendly :)

    AWESOME, CRAVE-WORTHY. LOVE!!

If I could, I would give them 100 stars!! Only seeing a brief glimpse of the sign, I thought this was a raw tuna place. 'Worked across the parking lot @ Sprouts since 12/2023 and just today a favorite customer (knowing I'm a semi-retired chef) said, "The BEST BBQ in Austin. Great Value!!" So I walked over when my 5am shift ended at 1:30. I could smell deliciousness before I even saw the building!! Staff was inviting, friendly, warm, PROUD. $24 got me a three meat plate w/ two GENEROUS sides, peach cobbler AND coconut chocolate chip cookies. (Granted 'cuz I work at Brodie Oaks I got the 10% "parking lot discount." ) Moist Brisket, White Meat Chicken, Pork Rib w/ jalapeño cornbread stuffing and green bean casserole was OUTSTANDING!!! 'Too full to tuck into the deserts... I easily have two more meals from the leftovers!! Forget any naysayers or less than 5 star reviews. Chef Moi deems this my most-loved, perfect bbq and experience in Austin yet!! Well-worth Your time, search, $$$. MOST EXCELLENT!! Awe, I LOVE this place!!

Hadn't been to Pok e Jo's in a minute! I was pleasantly surprised... Ordered the two meat plate with brisket and pork ribs. Three pork ribs and while he was slicing I asked for burnt ends for the brisket. The ribs were tender and flavorful and the brisket was perfectly charred on the outside and moist & tender inside. I thought I was in BBQ heaven. For sides I chose the delicious Jalapeno Cornbread casserole (for the first time) and the Broccoli Cheese (very cheesy and not overcooked). The serving was so large I actually had to bring some home. More for a snack later

Had to have barbarque so I decided to stop at Poke Jo,s I ordered the two meat plate and loved the brisket marbled delicious. The chicken was good but dry. I really felt the chicken was left out too long under the ovens. So, my next visit will be if they can check my barbaque and see if its moist.located in a strip mall its decor is very pretty much wood floors very plain. Benches are available to sit. I rated the brisket and side salad 5 star and chicken a three star. Planning to try all the meats next time. Fountain drinks available and great staff friendly definitely will return again. Happy yelping!

They switched to only Habanero Sauced Pulled Pork option several years back. So, I stopped eating BBQ at Poke Joe's since my favorite of theirs was their pulled pork before the change. I can get non-habanero pulled pork at every other BBQ place in Austin, but PokeJoe's pulled pork used to be so much better than all their competition. Over the last year, this Poke Joe's location allowed me to get non-sauced pulled pork very easily and I returned to them as my favorite BBQ joint again. Tonight, I got the old statement again stating they only offer Habanero Pulled Pork and I shouldn't expect to get non-habanero pulled pork again. So, again..I have to return to PokeJoe's competitors and miss out on PokeJoe's pulled pork. By The Way... they do continuously offer non-hananero pulled pork to Boy Scout Troops, Girl Scout Troops and other children- centric event catering.

Plate dinner with both kinds of sausage: habanero & cheese, and peppered beef, with two sides: potato salad and coleslaw.

It's a BBQ truck & on a Saturday evening they had ALL MEAT ready! Nothing was out so we had our pick. We ordered the 2 meats and 2 sides plate to share with brisket, pulled pork, mac & cheese, and scalloped potatoes. Favorite part of the dish was by far the brisket which was close to perfect. Pulled pork was seasoned with peppers or something, so found it a little distracting. But everything was good. Service was great, we ordered at the truck & they brought it to us at the bar next door, which has seating, twinkle lights, and on Sat college football all around. A very good austin BBQ spot - would like to try more of their meats to taste it all.

I was…read morevery excited to try some great bbq at one of the most highly rated food trucks on Yelp and by others. It's about 25 minutes over curvy roads thru the hills outside of Austin central metro area. I was glad that I went because I've been to Austin many times yet had not been northwest of the city. I tried many items. The sides were only $4 for the "small" portions (which weren't that small), so I tried all of them. The mac and cheese cork screw pasta was especially delicious. In fact, every side was delish and decadent. The jicama cole slaw was good and crunchy, the scalloped potatoes delish, the sriracha cole slaw had a good kick. I also liked the green chili corn and the pinto beans (very hearty). There was a side of pickle chips and onions. Now for the most important part, the brisket. It had a delicious bark on it, but it was just a bit dry. When I told my native Austinite friends this later, they all got very quiet ;). I believe that perhaps the truck makes the meat every other day, and I was there on the second day and so the meat got a bit dry (I'm being purely speculative about this and could be wrong). But it was still amazing! The special that day was "The Volcano Sandwich" (see photos) with brisket, potato salad, bacon jam, jalapenos, and pepper vinegar sauce on a hamburger bun. By the ingredients list, I thought it would be spicy, but it really was not. It was excellent. I also got the straight slices of brisket in its purest form. Again, delicious but a bit on the dry side. I also opted for some pork and got the Maui Waui Taco with pulled pork, pineapple pico de gallo, and chipotle sour cream. It was very tasty and I recommend it for the pork. It had a good kick and just sweet enough, but too much so. I was unsure whether Jim's Smokehouse had a second location along Barton Springs Road in Austin because it was listed on the web. I tried calling a few times to get more information, but got voicemail both times. I confirmed later that, as of this writing, the dt Austin location was closed down. Jim's Smokehouse is co-located with a few other food trucks. There are picnics tables, shaded in the back and a ping pong table. That day, I was served by Cecil? who was incredibly friendly and very welcoming. Such a nice guy. He brought all the food out to me along with the entire napkin holder. He appropriately waited for about 15 minutes to bring me the dessert which was the Keylime Pie with strawberry sauce (on the side). I tell you the pie was fantastic - get it! I think Jim's Smokehouse is 5/5 overall. I would go again in a heartbeat.

I love how people are giving this place a 1 star because they are popular and the line is long sometimes, I mean come one so stupid. This place is small and it's amazing how they can crank out as much bbq as they do. It's impressive. I got almost to the front of the line around 1230pm and they were already almost out of ribs, so go early. I got a 1/2lb of Brisket, 1/4lb of turkey, 3 bones of ribs, and one link of the jalapeño cheddar sausage, my side I did was potato salad. I'll give my honest review down below on each item. Brisket- 1000/10, best I have ever had. It was well seasoned, juicy, smoky, fatty in the right way and just so tender and delicious. Spectacular. Turkey- another 1000/10, it's so juicy and and tender. They season it but not heavily which is great since Turkey is a mild tasting meat. I would definitely get this again! Ribs- 6/10, and I love ribs. To me the seasoning on these was so thick it just overpowered the taste of the pork. All I could taste was pepper on it. It was good but I would personally pass on this item next time. Sausage- 1000/10, again so good. It was spicy due to the jalapeños but not overly, the cheese was nice and there was a good snap to the casing. The smoke added a nice touch to the fattiness of the sausage. Potato salad- 3/10, to me this was not a good take on potato salad. Not much texture in it like celery or something like that and all I could taste was vinegar. I like acid in my food but this is all I could taste. So it wasn't for me. Overall when I go next time I will be loading up on brisket, turkey and sausage! These items are amazing, maybe try another side, their beans looked really good. GO OUT AND EAT SOME BBQ!!

EVENT I was in town for a family reunion, in a party of 20 with a bunch of non-locals who were jacked for legit Texas BBQ. The place is loud -- if you're inside, don't expect to catch up with anyone but your immediate neighbors -- but spacious and inviting. We were prepped for an hour wait, but ended up going right in (Saturday at 3:00, before the rush that definitely did arrive). FOOD The bread was a little sweet, the coleslaw mostly savory, and both were fine. The beans and the potato salad were the lowest-rated in my group, but not awful. And the mac 'n' cheese was a big winner -- thick, smooth, delicious. But what of the main event? The sausage was divisive, but to me, thumbs-up. The pulled pork was solid. The brisket was dynamite -- not too spiced, not too lean, not too fatty, and altogether fall-apart fantastic. And my personal favorite, as well as that of several others at the table and recommended by a stuffed diner we passed in the parking lot, were the bison ribs. Sweet, smoky, tender as sin, and very much worth the trip. Goodness. Special mention for the house sauce (another clear highlight for my family) and the peach cobbler (soft top rather than crunchy raised some eyebrows, and it's very butter-forward -- but guilty-pleasure goooood). SERVICE And here's the reason for the review: the service was *exceptional.* Our server, Mason, went WAY above and beyond. He managed our battalion of screwball characters with aplomb, include two boomers ready to go to war over who got to take the check. He was readily available, but never hovering, and incredibly friendly. After chatting just a little about his own forays into smoking meat, it almost felt wrong to leave him behind at the end. He absolutely made our evening. Mason, if you're reading this: on behalf of my entire kooky family, here's to you, sir.

We ordered the sliced brisket sandwich, El Sancho Loco, and a pint of "shells & cheese." The sandwiches were really good, and the Sancho Loco sandwich was special in that it had chopped brisket, pulled pork, and sausage with red onions. The brisket was soft and juicy. The mac and cheese was great too. It had a unique spice to it from the poblanos. We enjoyed the tangy barbecue sauce that came in the bottle as well as a more smokey barbecue sauce that came in a small side cup. Our total was $48, and this was a good portion size for two people.

Fantastic Texas Style BBQ…read more My return trip to Austin after a decade plus, I had to get bbq. After work on a Wednesday, I decided to stop by and get my fix. This location is in a strangely empty/ not busy strip, so parking was plentiful and it looked very plan outside. However when you walked through that doors, the smells and ambiance changes you. The staff have the friendly Texan charm and give you a big welcome and are helpful in choosing your meal. Prime rib special comes with 2 sides and a bread. The roll is a little lukewarm and semi-hard. For sides, I ordered them corn pudding and Brussels sprouts. The sprouts are drenched in a sauce, tasty but heavy. The corn pudding is more in the bready side, but quite nice. You can get some onions and jalapeños as accoutrements. The kick provides a nice foil to the heaviness of the meats. And that leaves the meat. The prime rib was delicious. Soft and tender with an amazing smokiness. I also ordered a half pound of brisket. It's a lean cut, so a bit dry when compared to fatty cut. But amazing and worth a repeat. Both meats made my dinner and bbq addiction complete.

I remember both were pretty good and very heavily seasoned. Lemon pepper was indeed lemon peppery. It was a nicely cooked, tender, juicy and succulent chicken wing. It's oak smoked, so you get a bit of that smoky flavor encapsulating the wing adding a bit more depth to the flavors. Alabama white was a creamy sauce almost like a gravy. 3 Meat BBQ Plate: - Brisket: Decently tender, could use more flavor though with the seasoning. Very thinly cut - Pork Rib: A nice sticky, sweet pork rib with a good char and bark on the outside. Good crust. It is decently tender, while not fall off the bone, it was good. - Sausage: This, I wouldn't get again. It was big, juicy, and had a nice snap, but there was something off putting about the after taste that I can't quite pinpoint. - BBQ Sauce: A tangier bbq sauce, on the liquidier side - Corn casserole: Creamy, yummy, and sweet - Mac and Cheese: needs more flavor. I wouldn't get this one again I also ordered banana pudding, but unfortunately they forgot to give it to me (I ordered delivery)
