Store front

How have I never been here? This place rocks! From the outside, the size of the store looks deceiving, but once you're inside, you're literally in costume heaven! I even caught myself saying "Wow" out loud as soon as I entered the store. I thought by coming in at 2PM on a weekday in the middle of June that it was going to be dead. Nope! There were at least 4 people there looking for a costume in the middle of summer. Even though the owner seemed to be busy with all the costumers in the store, she was still able to provide me with 100% service! I came in looking for a rockstar-esque costume. It was very last minute, and I wasn't sure exactly what I wanted to be. I decided on Slash, because it is a very easy costume. They had everything I need to make the costume happen. There was a variety of Slash wigs, top hats, and sunnies to make a good enough costume. Within 15 minutes, I was out the door and ready to rockstar it up! I can't wait for my next costume affair, so that I can have an excuse to come shopping here again!

Gorgeous Fascinator

I've known about Pok-a-dots for years but never really stopped in. But when we made a last minute decision to head off to the Breeders cup, I was in desperate need of a gorgeous hat. I walked in and was greeted by a really nice lady named Carry. The store was packed to the rim with tons of great costumes for rent or purchase. She showed me a handful of hats and Fascinators and i was lucky to find something that was just perfect. The price for the fascinator was very affordable. Parking was easy to find down the back alley and I walked in through the back door. This place is a wonderful treasure. Don't keep driving, you never know what you find. Thanks again Carry! Such a pleasure to meet you...

Thanks girls for the great costumes!

Honestly, this is the ONLY place you need for ALL your costume wishes; Period. The sweethearts there know ALL the tricks and techniques to get the best costume you'll ever have. My better half and I wanted to dress as Mexican Bandits, but had no idea how to start. The girls guided us through the whole fun process of picking out everything we needed, down to the tiniest detail. And if you're looking for the least expensive costume possible,They have those too, and cheaper than @ those temporary Halloween shops that pop up every year. It's always an adventure when you walk into this place. You'll love it.

Love this Costume store! They have everything and if hey don't they will get it for you. You can rent or buy costumes and wigs. The store is packed full of costumes. Family owned business.

It's not always easy to summon your alter-ego, especially if your regular ego has gained a few pounds, and Cat Woman is no longer an option. Polk-a-dots to the rescue. They've helped me do everything from Richard Pryor to mission-era señorita (or let's face it, señora). If you want to win the costume contest, this is where you put on your A game.

Rented my Hook costume last year and had a lot of compliments. It's the best place to rent or buy costumes in the area.

I admit I came to Helen…read morea bit late in the game so there was a tight deadline getting my dress and the fitting but Helen made it happen. You call Helen to make an appointment. Then there you can browse her selection of designs, which she designs herself. If you give her enough time you can pick the fabric. Otherwise you'll have to settle for the fabrics that are more readily available. She'll take your measurements and then you set an appointment to try on your gown. Make sure to bring the shoes you plan to wear on your special occasion so she gets the length right. Then on your second trip, make sure you have your receipt number handy. Maybe take a picture of it as soon as she gives it to you on your first visit. Then she may make additional adjustments or not. Helen also has a lot of dresses available for rental as well. This is a very homey, small business shop so the fitting room is basically a big closet in the back. She is really nice, kinda reminds me of many friends' moms. She speaks limited English so if you have a particular vision and don't speak Mandarin, I'd bring a friend to help translate. My dress came out so well fitting and I got a lot of compliments on it. Hope to find another occasion to wear it again (and hope I can still fit it lol). It was around $300, not too bad! There is street parking in front and residential parking around.

I am very glad that I decided to come to Brocade to see Helen. I did not have an appointment, but Helen took me in graciously. Which she did not have to since she does state on her website that appointment are REQUIRED. I clearly did not read it carefully enough at the time. I told her where some of my insecurities were and she explained that QiPaos look best on people who have some extra meat and fluff to them and she was able to point on what type of designs would help accentuate my natural curves. She rushed my order a bit as I did not know that QiPaos that are custom takes a minimum of 3-4 months to make. I had the basic QiPao design and Helen added the sleeves for me although there is normally an extra charge to add sleeves to QiPaos. Please DO NOT throw away your receipt since you have to text that to her the day before the fitting so she can track your dress. I had a initial fitting in mid November and I received my dress about 3 weeks after since I had gained some weight and the dress needed to be altered to go up a size. In the end it all worked out and I had my beautiful, pure silk QiPao just in time for my photoshoot. Everyone who saw me in the QiPao could not stop complimenting me on the day of my photoshoot and the day of my graduation. I had never felt more confident in clothing than putting on the QiPao. I am so grateful for this experience with Helen in designing a custom QiPao. Also, expect that basic QiPaos are a minimum of $500 and up. If you want embroidery, I was told that it will be a minimum of about $1,000+. Prices are due to change based on the economy of course. Helen also informed me that she can design other clothing besides QiPaos and I had even noticed some wedding dresses in her changing room. I will definitely go back to Helen when I get married to design another dress. She also informed me her busy season tends to be from Jan/Feb until end of August as that is when Lunar New Year and Wedding Season is, so expect a longer turn-around time during that period.

I'm 5'10 and slender, and I recently won Miss Los Angeles Chinatown as Queen, so I came in excited to find something special with a bit of variety. Instead, I felt judged and dismissed. When I asked about dresses, the associate kept emphasizing how "expensive" everything was, repeatedly mentioning that pieces were hand-made and costly in a way that felt less informative and more like she was assuming I couldn't afford them. It was uncomfortable and unnecessary. I only got to try on one dress, and even then, there was no real effort to help me explore options or make the experience enjoyable. It felt like she didn't want to assist me or take the time to work with me at all. The shop itself is in a house, which I don't mind, but the customer service was extremely lacking. On top of that, many of the dresses seemed too short for taller girls, which made the selection even more limiting. Overall, I felt unwelcome, unsupported, and honestly discouraged. Qipao shopping should feel exciting and special, and this was the complete opposite.

Most of what I found in the stores were polyester dominant blends or unattractive designs. Suits were shiny or tailored for a body shape that was thinner than mine. Stores are also open to the street. Needless to say, I arrived after a most depressing shopping experience. When I went to The Men's Wearhouse, I easily found street parking (on a Sunday). I was greeted upon entry. I did not know the lay out of the store and the younger salesman who was attending me asked appropriate questions about what I was seeking. My tastes are somewhat older and many of the features or designs that I had wanted are no longer in fashion. The clerk, however, was able to extrapolate from what I was expressing to help me find something that might seem close to what I would want. When I asked him for measurements he took a variety of them; arms up, arms to the side, etc. I wasn't planning on buying a shirt, but I went for it anyway. I told him that besides having some extra space in the stomach, I absolutely needed a neck collar with some give. I was going to be wearing a tie and was not about to be pinched by it. The second shirt he found me was 100% cotton and an excellent fit . I was clear about my budget and he told me what the prices were of the garments before he offered me to try them on. At check out, he told me that if I were to sign up for the store's website, I would be given an on-the-spot discount that would cover the cost of the tax. I was extremely satisfied with this shopping experience and would whole-heartedly recommend the Men's Wearhouse in Pasadena for upscale men's garments.

From the very beginning, Jerry took the time to guide me through the entire process of building my first custom suit. We carefully reviewed every detail, from the collar to the cuffs, and I quickly realized just how meticulous the art of suit-making truly is or perhaps that level of precision is simply Jerry's signature. At the first fitting, Jerry proudly presented the finished suit and shirt, walking me through every thoughtful detail. He explained the stitching, pointed out how the trousers were subtly tailored at the hem to drape perfectly over the shoes, highlighted the custom embroidery, and even showed the sweat guards sewn into the suit--along with countless other details I would have never noticed on my own. His enthusiasm and pride in his craft were unmistakable, and it was clear that he genuinely cares about creating something exceptional for his clients. I thought I was coming in for a consultation, and I liked the fabrics and patterns we came up with, but he was disappointed that I was not ready to throw down $4,000 for the custom suit that day. (He convinced me that anything cheaper in his shop wasn't worth my time.) I can see why he likes to close the deal the day of. The more I thought about it, the less comfortable I felt throwing down than much for this suit... I had a few other reasons, too. Anyway, I sent a message to the store the next day, politely explaining why that I appreciated Jerry's time, but the shop wasn't for me. Jerry ended up calling me, and I wish I hadn't answered. He started trying to get me to get his cheaper stuff that had already talked me out of. He was pushy, dismissive of my reasons and all around unpleasant. I think they have some off the-rack suits available, too, and I believe they offer tailoring, but I am no longer interested. He'll probably respond to this and be dismissive again, but those are my two cents. He has a nice assistant. I won't pretend it's bad quality. Still three stars.
