The ladies who run the store are very welcoming and chatty to those who reciprocate a response. No worries if you rather browse in silence. I was able to find two birthday gifts for my friends, one of which loves the band Ghost. It's hard to find their merch out in the wild so I was pleasantly surprised they had a staff. Their items are a bit on the pricey side but it's all vintage and good quality stuff so I say it's worth it. I'm sad that they're closing their doors. You can rent the larger more well made type of costumes or purchase masks, dresses, shoes, corsets, jewelry, coats.. etc.. they've got it all. Usually several customers there so be patient. How have I never been here? This place rocks! From the outside, the size of the store looks deceiving, but once you're inside, you're literally in costume heaven! I even caught myself saying "Wow" out loud as soon as I entered the store. I thought by coming in at 2PM on a weekday in the middle of June that it was going to be dead. Nope! There were at least 4 people there looking for a costume in the middle of summer. Even though the owner seemed to be busy with all the costumers in the store, she was still able to provide me with 100% service! I came in looking for a rockstar-esque costume. It was very last minute, and I wasn't sure exactly what I wanted to be. I decided on Slash, because it is a very easy costume. They had everything I need to make the costume happen. There was a variety of Slash wigs, top hats, and sunnies to make a good enough costume. Within 15 minutes, I was out the door and ready to rockstar it up! Local very densely packed costume shop opened year round. Very pleased they had the perfect hat for my derby event at the racetrack. They rent and sell costumes and have fitting rooms. They also have a ton of accessories, make up, contacts, and little trinkets to finish off any outfit. Love it. There is plenty of parking in the back and some in the front. During the summer they close an hour earlier than their posted hours on Yelp, but I still had plenty of time to stop in and find what I needed for the LOJ. I've known about Pok-a-dots for years but never really stopped in. But when we made a last minute decision to head off to the Breeders cup, I was in desperate need of a gorgeous hat. I walked in and was greeted by a really nice lady named Carry. The store was packed to the rim with tons of great costumes for rent or purchase. She showed me a handful of hats and Fascinators and i was lucky to find something that was just perfect. The price for the fascinator was very affordable. Honestly, this is the ONLY place you need for ALL your costume wishes; Period. The sweethearts there know ALL the tricks and techniques to get the best costume you'll ever have. My better half and I wanted to dress as Mexican Bandits, but had no idea how to start. The girls guided us through the whole fun process of picking out everything we needed, down to the tiniest detail. And if you're looking for the least expensive costume possible,They have those too, and cheaper than @ those temporary Halloween shops that pop up every year. I spend the majority of my life in costume - model and attend tons of costumed events, as well as make a ton of my own costumes, so I appreciate having a good costume shop in the neighborhood. The good: This place has a huge selection, lots of handmade stuff sourced from sellers, a lot of rentable and high quality vintage pieces. A much better selection of things for the discerning costume-wearer than your average costume shop. They have your typical cheap Halloween crap too, but it's far from the only thing they carry. The bad: There is so much stuff in such a small space that its next to impossible to casually browse. They need a larger space that allows shoppers to be able to look through what they have in stock rather than needing to ask for help, which is hard to come by in this store. They have stupid hours (closed 2 days of the week, only open until 5:30) and CLOSE ALL THE GODDAMN TIME DURING THEIR POSTED HOURS. It is super unreliable to come here, and they often close for days at a time right before some of the biggest costumed events in Los Angeles. Hello, why do you close right before Labyrinth of Jareth? That is exactly when I need to be buying supplies. If their space was larger and they actually worked their posted hours, it would be 5 stars. read more

If you can imagine it, they can get it for you, even if it means letting you browse their catalogs so they can special order something for you. The ladies here are always very helpful and creative! Even though I usually have a pretty clear (and limited) idea of what I need to make my costume great, they help me incorporate unique and high-quality items to make my costume the best it can be. Not only are they the queens of Halloween, but they have rentable vintage clothing. I've rented 20's style hats here for themed parties, as well as old-fashioned shoes. These poor ladies have quite a small store for all of their merchandise, which means floor to ceiling products. But they have it mastered! Ask them what kind of fairy wings, elvis wigs, or platform shoes they have available, and they'll find their whole collection in seconds. They are amazing. Just don't wait til the last minute to get your Halloween costume here! They're a hot commodity, and since the store is so little, it gets crazy in there, and supplies in store are obviously more limited during late October. Prices vary according to quality, of course, and the better option will always be on the pricier side. However, I still own everything I have ever purchased there, and it is still in perfect condition! The products are definitely worth the price! Great service and quality merchandise. They have stuff stacked to the roof which makes for a good time looking for the right look your going for. I will come here next time i decide to dress in costume. I love this place! I wish I had more costume parties to go to just so I could have an excuse to come to this store. I originally came here because I needed a mask for a masquerade party, and party city was not cutting it. The selection was impressive, and after I finally chose my mask, the lady even helped tape some foam to the nose so that it would stay up on my face. I wanted feathers, which were kind of expensive ($3/feather, when the mask was only $15) but for the convenience of having it glued on right then and there, it was nice. There's just too much stuff here, it was a bit overwhelming to say the least. It's really easy to get lost, not literally, but just lost in a sense that there's so much stuff here that you don't want to leave after you've found what you needed. Picked up a masquerade mask here during Halloween. Didn't really get a chance to walk the entire store (since it was super packed with people doing last minute shopping for costumes), however, will return if I ever need one. Things to note: 1) store is not just packed with people walking though tight small aisles, but also super packed (think to the brim) with all sorts of costumes. If you don't have a guide in that place, could get overwhelmed and lost, panicky and leave. 2) owner came up to me and told me that they don't allow big purses in the store and to check my purse up front with the employees. it was a good thing i was about to leave though. apparently, they're afraid of theft of their items which is why they enacted that policy. so if you must visit girls, smaller purses if you don't want a stranger watching over your purse. 3) parking is super confusing in the back as it's one big lot with signs pointing this way and that for all the different stores. parking for this store consists of 6-8 spaces directly located in the back with a sign indicating it's for Pok-A-Dots. Don't get confused and park elsewhere since you could get towed. Also, spaces are tight and you'll have to back out of the lot in order to leave. Overall, lots of variety and even though no one helped me or greeted me at the door, I will return. read more
