I absolutely refuse to eat Domino's, and it was late at night, so Pointer's was the place. My favorite thing from Pointers is the Pointersaurus, because the idea of that much pizza is exciting, but I got a 16" (which I think is the largest before the 'saurus) and ate it for days (much more economical!) They offer regular crust, thin crust, and thick crust, which is a good variety for a group of friends that all want different things. You can also choose red sauce, white sauce or olive oil. I got regular crust with cheese, mushrooms and green peppers. It was good fresh, but this pizza is a killer leftover meal! I put some minced garlic and heated it in the toaster oven for a few min with some olive oil and oregano and it was really awesome! It was not the best pizza I've ever had, but it wasn't meant to be. Placed in the same tier as other delivery pizzas (Pizza Hut, Domino's, Papa Johns), I think local favorite Pointer's is a winner. read more

If one picks up the order at their shop, they are very fast. The price for 1/2 of a pasta dish (they have several. All--I think--come with a salad, dressing, and bread) is very reasonable. Today, my wife and I ordered a large double pepperoni pizza with extra cheese. At least, that's what I thought I ordered. When the pizza arrived, it was missing the pepperoni. No big deal, I'll just call them up and let them know, they'll bring me a new pizza, etc. NOPE. Apparently, their online ordering system makes it incredibly difficult to order a pizza with any toppings unless it's a specialty pizza. I clicked the box for double pepperoni, but somehow I was also supposed to click the box for whole pizza as well. What? So when we called, the dude who answered the phone was completely unwilling to help, offered us nothing, and when we asked if this has happened before, he said "I've never had any problems with it." Okay, dude. Sure you haven't. I was really stoked about this pizza and now I'm completely deflated. I also really thought this could be our new pizza place, but not anymore. Guess we're sticking with Domino's. Side note - if you order the barbecue wings, they're just going to throw a bunch of barbecue sauce on some plain wings. What a disappointment all around. I am very disappointed in Pointer's Pizza. I ordered my food at 10:20 pm and received it at 11:49 pm. (I am five minutes away from the restaurant.) I was informed by my security that the delivery driver came but didn't get me by phone so he left. They offered to take the food from him and hold it for me until I could pick it up. He told them it wasn't paid for. (This was a lie.) I had paid for it when I placed my order online. So, I had to call back the store. The store wanted me to put a tip on my card. I said I had cash. So, the driver came back. I asked why he didn't leave it with security, and he said, "You didn't have a tip on it and that's how I get my living." Two full-grown men with one obstacle to overcome: THE POINTERSAURAUS!!! The challenge was a 28", 10-12 lbs. monster pizza. You have to choose between two meats or 4 veggies. You have ONE HOUR, and if you and a friend can tame this beast, you get your money back + a $500 bounty!! We chose sausage and grilled chicken, and we were ready!! We started out strong, and we had way more than half done by 30 minutes time. But as the food began to expand in our stomachs, we felt ourselves slow down. By the end, there were only 7 slices of the behemoth left, but we could not finish. Still, it was super fun trying!! Not quite the triumphant ending we were looking for, but lets get onto how the food tasted. Now, at the end of eating that much pizza, you don't really want to think about taste. However, I will say, at the very beginning when we just started, the pizza was very delicious. I would definitely go back for a couple pies. Would I get sausage and chicken? Probably not. Pointer's might have the very best pizza I've ever tasted. They absolutely have the very best cheese of any pizza place. It's not just mozzarella, it's MOZZARELLA. Lots of mozzarella. It's chewy, vibrant, and full-flavored. If you don't think mozzarella can be vibrant, you must not have tried Pointer's Pizza. I very definitely appreciate that they're open until 2am every day of the week. It's a rarity in St. Louis. I honestly can't think of anything else to say about Pointer's, so I'm afraid you won't be as impacted by this review as you should be. So here's the bottom line. EAT POINTER'S. If you're yelping around for a place to get pizza likerightnow, EAT POINTER'S. In a mad frenzy to get food before the arrival of the inlaws, Erika K and I ordered Pointer's. We ordered a pizza and wings. The wings seemed to be highly praised on yelp so I was fairly excited. They turned out to be a fatty, flubbery, separated sauced disaster. They had no crunch and were made from what seemed like frozen low quality chicken. The sauce was decent but separated and oily. I pity the fool who,thinks these are good. The pizza was average. I enjoyed the crispy crust and sauce, but in the end it seemed like just the standard pie. Nothing really stood out or distinguished it as a Pointer's Pizza versus the rest of the other so so pizza shops in the universe. I can scratch this one off my list. I loveee pizza, it's one of my downfalls, and today just happened to be my "cheat" days. Drove from south county because I've read such great reviews and came in with the expectations of sitting down to eat. There were only 3 tables to sit at and the door was wide open. Pointer's is really good. I used the order online tool to purchase a 14-inch pepperoni, pineapple, and meatball pizza. It was ready when and I got there, with no waiting, and still hot even though it took me about 25 minutes to get to the store. The cheese is high quality, the sauce is good, and the meatballs were also pretty great. They may have been a little too heavy on the spices for my tastes, but still darn good. The only thing I didn't like was the thickness of the "regular" crust. It was super thin for my taste, and could not support the cheese or the toppings. The slices were cut long and thin, which I liked, but the toppings slipped right off the lower half of almost every piece. Next time I will ask them to make it a little thicker. After a late night on the town with my friends, we came back to a friend's apartment and were starving. Too lazy to cook anything, we decided to order pizza! 4.75 STARS I have had some delicious Pointer's pizzas and would give them a 5-star rating, but a recent pizza was kind of like a Bizarro-pie. All the toppings were in the middle. All hail the Pointersaurus! A pizza the size of a Brontosaurus which takes a team of Velociraptors to properly dispatch. Pointer's is best known for the aforementioned beast and the competitive eating associated with it, but don't let that fool you--this is pretty damn good pizza. Pointer's strikes that rare balance between crust, sauce, and cheese that eludes so many pizza parlors. No one ingredient dominates; just a simple harmony that works. Pointers, just about one of the greatest pizza places that you can find in St. Louis without cracker thin crust. Pointers, famous for their Pointersaurus, which is large enough to feed a small village, is famous for if you eat the whole thing in a certain amount of time, you win $500. Gigantic pizza aside, Pointers is not really a restaurant but more of a delivery place. Having attended college just down the street I spent many of nights on the phone, ordering their steamy cheesy greatness. Delivering until 2 A.M. is a godsend for anyone up late at night with a craving for something filling in order to get the brain cells moving again. Pointer's service is also quite speedy. Not in the kind of speedy where you order your pizza and within 20 minutes you have a lukewarm pizza that was cooked with many others at the same time, or reheated with topping placed on top, but speedy in the fact that they make it fresh and deliver it to you, still piping hot. Pointers is also very liberal with their toppings. You will find that if you order a pizza with two or more toppings you might not be able to actually see the cheese underneath the array of additional flavor added. I read a LOT of very complementary reviews on Pointer's here so I figured...hey, why not give it a try? Ordered a 16" pie with Pepperoni, Sausage, Mushrooms last week. Called at 4 p.m. for pickup -- Pizza was ready by 4:15 when I walked in the door. Got the pizza home by 4:30, still nice and hot (or at least very warm). First couple of pieces were ok-ish, but nothing at all jumped out at me to distinguish it from any other fast-pizza-chain typle of place. No zing. Nothing special about the cheese (I ordered extra). Nothing special about the pepperoni, the sausage was a little weird (kinda dog food chunk-like) and the mushrooms were pretty tasteless. All in all, I have had as good (but not better) pizza from Little Ceasar's, Domino's, Papa Johns. I would rate Pizza Hut slightly higher based on selection and price. Overall I guess I'm a little disappointed, given the hype from many of the reviews. I really wanted to love it. Granted, I didn't throw it away...we finished it all (with the help of our hungry pooches). I can see where their pricing and speed of delivery would appeal to the dorm crowd though and it is probably really really good when you're buzzed or liquored up. Personally I like to support the local business rather than going to big chain restaurants. but if we put this habit of mine aside, Pointer's pizza was a very high quality and good price pizza that I will continue ordering from them. Ten friends from two vocal groups spent the day at Smith/Lee Studio recording some songs for upcoming CDs. We were starving and some genius among us knew about this place. I grew up on Chicago and I love pizza, but I'm not a snob about it. This place was friendly, fast and served up an incredible, giant, delicious pizza. All of us had our fill, wolfing down the delicious, perfectly baked, generously topped creation. As for ambiance - who cares? Better than any chain pizza in the area! The perfect balance of sauce, cheese, and toppings. We ordered a medium pizza, wings, and garlic bread for take-out and it was the perfect amount for two (with leftovers).
