I would give Mike a 5 star review and there's still time in the future with other projects. He did a valve body replacement on my 2014 Subaru Outback. What was great was that he allowed me to buy the parts and he'd only charge for installation. I appreciated that very much. He told me the job would take 3--4 days. It ended up being about two weeks. He would be straight up when I would call or text. Hey, I'm having some programming issues, but I'm trying. Unfortunately, I had to get a rental car and all that. However, when I finally got the car back there was no jerking. No more hesitation. Mike figured it out. I had to let him cook. So, if you have the time and want it done right... go to Mike. I first called another shop, but they didn't really seem to care--they just told me to "bring it in whenever and we'll get to it when we can." When I called Pointe Auto Tech, Mike answered and immediately treated my situation like it mattered. He told me to bring the truck straight in and not shut it off, making sure I'd get there without getting stranded. He really cared about helping me, and it showed. Even better, they had the starter replaced and my truck back to me in less than 24 hours. That's incredible, especially since I don't have another vehicle to fall back on. I was in really bad shape because my timing chain broke in my Mazda broke and I didn't have another car to drive so I was kind of screwed. I called a couple shops in Grosse Pointe and there was no way I could afford what they quoted me. I got on NextDoor and posted that I needed a mechanic nearby who could help me and was reasonably priced. Three of the neighbors who replied told me that they have had their cars fixed at Pointe Auto Tech and overall they were all weirdly enthusiastic about this place. I called and spoke directly to the owner, Mike Murphy, and I explained my situation and at the time I did not know for sure it was my timing chain that was the problem but I was pretty sure it was. He said before I bring it in I should try a few things first to see if they helped because he said theres no reason to waste money if it's something I can fix myself. So yeah, that was really nice and it felt really good that he was trying to actually help me. So my trust level increased with him so I called back and he hooked me up with a great tow truck who took my car in. First thing he did was hook up one of those Snap-On computers to my car so he could check or test everything to see if there are any other issues. After a few other things, Mike confirmed that the timing belt broke. So I braced myself as he was getting ready to give me the quote and his plan to get me back on the road. His price was a couple hundred dollars than the places I spoke with prior but it was still an issue for me financially. I told him I could pay half now and the rest in about two weeks when I get paid. He told me that I didn't have to pay him until the car was fixed and ready to go. And as far as the timing situation, he said he understands and would work with me. He proposed that since his shop has so many cars to repair each day I could leave mine there and as it got closer to payday, he or one of his mechanics would start working on my car. Mike is amazing. He is very kind for doing this and its not something that I expected. Nobody cares anymore it seems but this place is the exception. Pointe Auto Tech is a genuine local auto repair shop with that strong neighborhood feel to it. Mike was very transparent upfront, broke everything that needed to be done for me and printed it and the estimate so there wouldn't be any surprises. In the end, he was able to save me some money in the process so his price came under what he quoted. I cannot recommend this place more highly. Since then, I bought another older model car and the guys at Pointe did the computer inspection and did all of the maintenance needed. I now bring both of my cars there for maintenance stuff like oil changes and tune-ups. My brother-in-law had a full brake job done at Pointe and he was very happy. Way better quality and less than Belle wanted to charge. I tell everyone I know about Mike and Pointe Auto Tech. P.S. I forgot to mention, he helped me get a rental with someone he knew at Enterprise. Enterprise is fantastic - they brought the car directly to me at the shop. read more

Mike saved the day! He fixed my car without notice when I saw an issue with my battery light. Long story short, he was able to get me back on the road in a day. He discovered a weird problem with my 2006 Honda Civic, where the prior owner McGuyvered my battery posts. Not sure why these owners did this, but Mike was able to detect and repair the issue. Thankfully, I can get to work now without worrying about my car dying while on the road. I don't live in the area. I was visiting a friend when I encountered this issue and my friend recommended him highly. He is a rarity among mechanics. I took my wifes CRV in for a major brake job. The mechanic cross threaded one of the lug nuts but didn't tell me when I picked up the car. A week later I took the same car to Honda for a recall that necessitated removing the rear wheels. The Honda mechanic told me about the lug nut that wouldn't loosen. He used an impact wrench to break the cross threaded lug nut and stud off. I then went back to Pointe Auto Tech to have the stud and nut replaced. I will not return for more work. read more

Took my truck here a few years ago. Wasn't a hard fix, the price was meh. Not a deal, not gouged. Last few months my SUV had an issue starting. Most of the times it would start, then not at all. To get it to start you had to disconnect/reconnect the battery. So I called them and asked them if they were busy and I could take it in. They said it had to be doing the thing where it doesn't start for them to diagnose it. But that's not always the case. Sometimes it doesn't , sometimes it does. I don't know much about cars and I knew it was electrical obviously. So I told the dope from Pointe Auto Tech, that if its doing the thing, then I have to tow it to them. He said , that's right. I could only have it towed in not drive it there! What moron. Only problem is it's not always convenient to be stranded somewhere where your car won't start , just to get it looked at! Lol. As opposed to taking the battery cables off and on, start it and drive it over there. Basically admitting they aren't all that great at figuring things out. So I called Mack Auto Center , and told them the same thing, and they were like "drive it over!" They figured it out, like pros. We maintain our 'mature' vehicles with this garage. They are honest, very competent, and provide advice even when it doesn't end up as a sale. When keeping an older vehicle as reliable transportation, having a service provider you can trust to help you make good decisions is priceless. The only reason they don't get 5 stars is because they get so busy it is sometimes hard to get in. If you don't make cattle call on one day, you are back trying again the next the way their receptionist runs things. Being able to make an appointment or at least being on a list for next day would be a big improvement. If you can get in, you will get treated right and not be over charged for great work. read more

Was given awesome service as a woman it's hard. So far so good! The owner gave me a almost brand new battery for $60 with a 60day warranty along with a great price. They replaced my front driver wheel bearing hub & their price was better than buying it at Auto Zone! Although i didn't see the part before or after (i forgot to ask) it seems great. The labor on it was at $120 which online told me was an average price. I'm overall very pleased thus far! They're friendly& very helpful! Great prices & I recommend them 100%! read more
