I had a smooth experience here with Dr. Yu and also decided to grab new prescription sunglasses here too. They accept VSP. Scheduling an appointment was super easy and a lot of slots were available. Intake forms were completed on my own via online link, so I didn't have to sit around waiting for too long when I arrived for my actual appointment. My prescription was emailed to me same day without me having to even request. Point Richmond Optometry is not pushy at all about purchasing frames from them. It seemed like they couldn't care less and they didn't have much of an opinion either when I asked which ones looked better on me. However, it is refreshing to go to an optometry office and not feel pressured at all about buying frames. They offered to show me the selection that was covered under my insurance and explained the prices of add-ons. I did in fact end up getting new frames from here though because I didn't want to bother shopping around elsewhere and I knew Point Richmond Optometry could get it all done.

Reception desk

Kind, caring, knowledgeable, professional and friendly, with state-of-the-art equipment, the folks here aren't finished until you're happy. We drive a ways to get to Point Richmond Optometry, and that's the reason. Make an appointment, let them take care of you, and you'll see what I mean. And yes, they handle the insurance stuff, too.

I was in need of new glasses and decided to try the closest optometry to my work. So close it was walking distance, so perfect for after-lunch appointments. I normally get vision tests at Kaiser while glasses are usually at Costco. At some point, you just get tired of the take-a-number system and long lines. Also, my free time is increasingly limited these days with an energetic 2yo. Point Richmond Optometry is appointment-only, and its great they respond quickly by text. Their selection of frames is not as big as Costco or Lens-crafters, but I found what I liked. Ultra-light, Ray Ban plastic frames that feel great, almost like nothing's there. Service was great as they'll bring several styles for you to try, based on your preferences. You'll need a separate appointment for fitting adjustments once the glasses arrive, just under 2 weeks in my case. You'll get glasses, cleaning solution, towelette, and a chocolate bar. Sweet!

I've been going to The Optician since 2018 and my god it has changed my life and how I've viewed glassesware! I didnt even realize that glasses needed to be adjusted to your own face and the amount of comfort it gives you over the entire day, amazing! I never feel fatigued after adjustments done to my frames with them. Simply amazing. I have about 10 pairs of glasses with them now and have brought most people I know who wear glasses into the store for a new pair or two or three of glasses and the level of care and attention to detail to everyone I bring and myself is so above and beyond with what I've gotten in the past before I found The Optician. They not only help guide what looks good on you but also listen to the comfort/needs of the client in such a nuanced way that really lets the person pick what they feel the best in! Not to mention the unbridled enthusiasm when someone finds a pair that they're so in love with is just... chef's kiss moment! Honestly can't wait to start shopping for a new pair every year :)

She also found out about my eyes that I didn't know that my previous optometrist never told me. Dr. Chen wanted me to come back in a week to dilate my eyes; however I wasn't able to come in the days that she worked due to my work schedule. I appreciate that Dr. Chen was able to fit me in on a weekend despite being fully booked so I could get my prescription I needed for my contacts. I highly recommend coming here to get your eyes checked and Dr. Chen is an amazing optometrist. If you try to make an appointment online by clicking their emails that remind you to, they say they'll call you and they never do. The only way to do it is to call them. It's weird that they give you the option to get a call back but never do. The front desk doesn't really make eye contact when you go, and are a bit cold. I guess that's fine, but it is a stark contrast to the friendliness of the doctors and such. Overall, I would recommend.

I will never shop here again. I'd much rather deal with the folks of San Ramon or Marin, the Peninsula for crying out loud, shoot even dog eat dog San Jose; just not this location! Let's be honest here, Warby Parker isn't meant for the simple, "I'm using my vision insurance for glasses kind of purchase." Instead, it's a moderate to expensive store for fashionable glasses and it's meant to serve the markets they populate, I'm no fool. However, I do love fashion and didn't mind the à la carte style here, so we bought two pairs of glasses from Fourth Street's Warby Parker. When I found the glasses originally, I was in San Ramon and I was helped by a wonderful salesperson whose name I unfortunately forgot. Once I had my prescription I went to the Berkeley store, out of convenience; big mistake! Especially, since the first salesperson in Berkeley confused me and apparently herself with my prescription, (progressive), and I ultimately ended up with single vision lenses, Instead of progressive. Something I was told only when I returned to a second salesperson in Berkeley Let me tell you about this second salesperson though, cause they were quite rude and judgmental. In fact they seemed to assume I made my purchasing decisions based on cost. No, no, I made my decisions based on confusion! In fact even after a second salesperson and two opticians I am still unhappy and will make sure I go back to corporate with these comments to make sure I get EXACTLY what I need and want. The first optician was nice, but super fast and didn't say much; so I was again a bit confused. The second optician was more verbal but just as rude as the second salesperson. Other than that, Warby Parker is cute.

Janet Chan is warm, gentle and exudes kindness. She was able to figure out my exact prescription very efficiently (usually it takes a lot longer) but she seems more competent than the average optometrist in her ability to arrive at the prescription strength for my glasses. Her office staff particularly the girl who helped me locate glass frames were good at finding something I liked. I essentially found a pair of frames that was covered 100 percent by insurance and for the lens, I brought all the bells and whistles including UV protection (transitional lens), glare and scratch resistance, thin lens and the latest reading/distance glasses which added up to 400 dollars and my last pair of glasses was more than a 1000 dollars. Hopefully I will like the final product in a few weeks. So far, I am glad to have found such a great optometrist in my neighborhood thanks to the referral one of my co-workers gave me recently.
