My son got an injury at school when one of the kids poked his eye on accident while they were in a group and so luckily Dr. Wu took him in on short notice and was able to help him evaluate whether he needed to be seen in the ER and was able to make sure that his eye was OK I'm really appreciated their quick response to my calling letting me bring him in during Covid would highly recommend them and I am setting up appointments for my other son and husband to have their eyes looked non-emergency at soon. read more

Maybe I caught this office on a weird day. I tend to research my doctors before making an appt. I saw the great reviews but left the appt annoyed and not wanting to go back for the follow up (but had to). Everyone in the office pushes hard on sales, it's a local office and I get that but when your staff start telling a pregnant/breastfeeding mother that she HAS to pay out of pocket to dilate her eyes by their alternative non covered option by saying "well the doctor has to examining your eyes", basically making you feel like it's required....& continuing to push when I say no and basically telling me I have to, to the point I "put my foot down" (instead of the covered option/which is unfit for pregnant/breastfeeding mothers)...well that sort of cemented the appt right there and that was before I even got to see the doctor. You can't bully people into buying things, it's just ridiculous. Everyone pushed for the single day lenses (because they are more expensive). And the doctor sort of insinuated I needed to save money because I was a SAHM. To the contrary..I'm a SAHM because I'm lucky to be able to do so financially. But why would I pay 4x the amount here vs elsewhere. It's not because I need to save money it's because I see the price difference that isn't justified. When I left ...all though I know that it can be standard to pay for your exam and then have to get reimbursed...I was just done and told them my insurance covered it and process it through them. That staff member then kept trying to explain to me if I didn't pay I would lose out on their "discount". I told them I had no intention of going over my allotted spending amount so it doesn't matter. 10 minutes later I was finally allowed to leave. Apparently they didn't think I understood what they were trying to say. Everyone in the office word their "sales pitch" in tricky ways so that if you know nothing medical, nothing about your plan, or just plain give up-you end up spending quite a lot more than necessary I'd imagine ...kind of a robbery in my opinion. I'm not a fan of bullying sales tactics and implications that a test that is optional is required ...(which is misinforming to non/medical patients, which is wrong.) I'd suggest being knowledgeable on tor plan (if you aren't a member of the medical community) before coming here. We have moved to the peninsula so won't be back either way. Edit: once again if you do not want to dilate your eyes you do not HAVE to, period. Every provider is able to perform your exam if you decide to dilate or not. You do not have to do it at every appt, at every age. Once again: misinformation to non medical educated patients. Not cool :) read more

Wonderful small business! Would recommend to anyone. Because of covid, they would only allow visits by appointment only. Boy was I surprised by the extra level of precaution and safety. Uv sterilization equipment. Anything that you try on is sterilized after. Not sure how many customers they allow at a time but I was the only one there for 30 min. Also, as others have said, no pressure to upsell or buy anything. Pricing is transparent. They list out your options and what you would pay with and without insurance. When debating whether to get antiglare along with polarized lenses I was told the antiglare won't be much more better with polarized lenses. Other than designer sunglasses frames it was also pretty hard to find any frames over $150. This is the total opposite of many places where it's hard to find anything under $200. Never tried an eye exam here but would definitely give it a try based on the automated machine they have to take your measurements when fitting glasses, great to know they invest in technology as well as the fact they don't try to get you to spend more. I don't know how many times other opticians ask you to spend more money that is not covered for so and so test. Give this small business a try! read more

I have really bad astigmatism in one eye and she went over and beyond to help me get the best fitting for that eye. She was so great at explaining what was going on, something I never experienced before. The entire staff here is super nice and attentive. They explain everything in detail, including costs. For decades I went to a highly regarded doctor in Berkeley who's way up there in the optometry world, and I thought I was happy. But when I stopped driving about 3 years ago it became a big hassle to get from Point Richmond where I have lived for 23 years to Berkeley. One day, walking the two blocks home from lunch at the Hotel Mac I noticed an optometry practice right next to the Post Office. I had walked by it 10,000 times and never really seen it. But that day I did, and I am so glad. The warm, personal, and highly professional care I have received here is truly second to none. These women are awesome. I ask a LOT of questions, and they all, including Dr. Yu who does my exams, explain things well and answer patiently. And they are so friendly...whether I am stopping in to get some eye cleaner or get something adjusted for the fourth time, they greet me by name and make me feel welcome. I totally trust Dr. Yu, and feel empowered to make good decisions about my eye care as I age, because she explains everything so thoroughly. I never ever feel rushed. So I agree with everything I read in the other 5-star reviews, which incidentally is how I had the courage to switch doctors...every review I saw when I noticed their existence and checked them out on Yelp was 5-star. I have been coming to Pt. Richmond Optometry since 2006. I have seen both Dr. Asmus and Dr. Yu, and have always received nothing but the finest care from either. The office is equipped with some excellent hi-tech optometry equipment, which they update when necessary. I found they had changed their autorefractor and phoropter to newer models when I was there recently, and I was told the new units network to one another when I asked about them. The office has a good selection of eyewear as well, and the office staff are always very friendly and professional. I live in Oakland, but my wife and I drive to Point Richmond whenever we're due for eye exams, as you really just cannot beat the level of service and professionalism we receive at Pt.
