I had a smooth experience here with Dr. Yu and also decided to grab new prescription sunglasses here too. They accept VSP. Scheduling an appointment was super easy and a lot of slots were available. Intake forms were completed on my own via online link, so I didn't have to sit around waiting for too long when I arrived for my actual appointment. My prescription was emailed to me same day without me having to even request. Point Richmond Optometry is not pushy at all about purchasing frames from them. It seemed like they couldn't care less and they didn't have much of an opinion either when I asked which ones looked better on me. However, it is refreshing to go to an optometry office and not feel pressured at all about buying frames. They offered to show me the selection that was covered under my insurance and explained the prices of add-ons. I did in fact end up getting new frames from here though because I didn't want to bother shopping around elsewhere and I knew Point Richmond Optometry could get it all done.

Reception desk

Kind, caring, knowledgeable, professional and friendly, with state-of-the-art equipment, the folks here aren't finished until you're happy. We drive a ways to get to Point Richmond Optometry, and that's the reason. Make an appointment, let them take care of you, and you'll see what I mean. And yes, they handle the insurance stuff, too.

I was in need of new glasses and decided to try the closest optometry to my work. So close it was walking distance, so perfect for after-lunch appointments. I normally get vision tests at Kaiser while glasses are usually at Costco. At some point, you just get tired of the take-a-number system and long lines. Also, my free time is increasingly limited these days with an energetic 2yo. Point Richmond Optometry is appointment-only, and its great they respond quickly by text. Their selection of frames is not as big as Costco or Lens-crafters, but I found what I liked. Ultra-light, Ray Ban plastic frames that feel great, almost like nothing's there. Service was great as they'll bring several styles for you to try, based on your preferences. You'll need a separate appointment for fitting adjustments once the glasses arrive, just under 2 weeks in my case. You'll get glasses, cleaning solution, towelette, and a chocolate bar. Sweet!

Just one example: last year I needed lenses replaced fast on a backup pair of glasses before a trip. Assuming that Karen and Aimee would be too busy, I called a few well-known, branded stores and was practically laughed off the line. Karen and Aimee, on the other hand, didn't miss a beat. Without over-promising, they simply got the job done. I picked up my glasses two days before my trip and left town with an easy mind. On top of all this, they're both super-nice and interesting to talk with. I look forward to seeing them each time I go into the shop. To sum up: when it comes to glasses, I can't imagine going anywhere else.

This may be the nicest frame shop I've ever been to What I appreciate most is their honesty. They recently saved me a significant amount of money by advising against anti-reflective coating after I mentioned my frustration with smudging. Surprisingly, she said she could not find my information in the system. She then gave me VSP's 800 customer service number to call. I contacted VSP, and they immediately found my information. The VSP representative then placed me, the office, and VSP on a three-way conference call and provided the office with an authorization number. The office told us to wait while they checked the information. After waiting for about 30 minutes with no response, I called back again. Later, a man who identified himself as the office manager called me. He said, "I overheard your conversation with our staff, and I don't think you are a good fit." He then told me to go to another eye care office on Solano Avenue instead. Throughout the entire process, I remained polite and respectful. I never raised my voice or said anything inappropriate. No one gave me any legitimate reason for refusing to see me. Simply telling a patient, "I don't think you are a good fit," without any explanation is unprofessional and unacceptable. I later contacted VSP Customer Service to report what happened. They told me they would investigate this office, and if my complaint is found to be valid, the office could be removed from the VSP provider network. I never even had the chance to see the doctor, so I cannot comment on the doctor's professional skills. However, based on my experience with the office manager and front desk staff, this was one of the worst customer service experiences I have ever had.

Janet Chan is warm, gentle and exudes kindness. She was able to figure out my exact prescription very efficiently (usually it takes a lot longer) but she seems more competent than the average optometrist in her ability to arrive at the prescription strength for my glasses. Her office staff particularly the girl who helped me locate glass frames were good at finding something I liked. I essentially found a pair of frames that was covered 100 percent by insurance and for the lens, I brought all the bells and whistles including UV protection (transitional lens), glare and scratch resistance, thin lens and the latest reading/distance glasses which added up to 400 dollars and my last pair of glasses was more than a 1000 dollars. Hopefully I will like the final product in a few weeks. So far, I am glad to have found such a great optometrist in my neighborhood thanks to the referral one of my co-workers gave me recently.

At first I was going to go online but then thought I'd try a brick and mortar store if they had some cheapo ones - so I checked this website and they did. I went to the store and a young lady named Nancy was who helped me. The glasses weren't there (does any store have a website that actually shows what's in store anymore or do they say that just to get you to come in?). They did have some others there were the same price and again, I didn't care about looks, it was just for the living room. Nancy was very helpful and didn't try to pressure me into something I didn't want. I told her what I wanted, she got me in and out relatively quickly. $39 bucks total plus tax. That's a great price. Showed her my prescription, filled out a thing, done and done. If the glasses do come within two weeks and there are no issues, I'll change my review to a 5.
