Just went in for a routine check up and had another great experience at Point Richmond Optometry. They are friendly, professional and the office is clean and modern. I am getting my first pair of glasses from them and they helped me find an option that was very affordable and cute, which is awesome! Can't wait to see more clearly! read more

I have been coming to Point Richmond Optometry for many years and I would highly recommend them. Even after moving out of the area I still travel over an hour to be seen by Dr. Asmus. The staff is polite and very helpful. I have only had positive experiences at this office!! read more

I have been seeing Dr. Asmus for about 25 years. She has been great and thorough. I trust her with all decisions and referrals to specialists as necessary. I brought my now grown daughter to Dr. Asmus as a child and she provided eye care for her through her growing years. Services included contac fitting, eyeglasses, cataract advice, and eye disease issues. The staff which has changed at times has never been less than exemplary and the selection offered is good for a rather small shop. Best of all I can walk from my home to the office! A big shout out to Pt. Richmond Optometry! read more

What a pleasant experience everyone was fantastic. I feel like I received the best eye exam ever. I will definitely recommend them to anyone who needs an eye Dr. read more

Dr. Asmus and the staff at Point Richmond Optometry are absolutely excellent. The patients get a standard of care that is exceptional. I have been Dr. Asmus for over ten years now and consider her a trusted caretaker of my most precious asset -- my eyes. A number of years ago, Dr. Asmus recommended that we begin a photographic "history" of my eyes. When a recent problem arose, she was able to refer to earlier pictures to make us both feel comfortable that I did not face a serious problem. This is just one example of the genuine interest in preventative care. I would give Point Richmond six stars if it were an option! read more

I've been a customer of Dr. Asmus for many years and will be for many more. I started just getting specialized contact lenses from her years ago and now use her to get my full annual eye exam as well. She is so much more thorough that any other eye doctor I've seen. She always seems to have the latest technology and always strives to get me the best vision possible. She has succeeded. I've only bought one pair of glasses from them but that as a good experience as well. I highly recommend them! read more

Dr. Asmus is great, the staff are friendly and professional, the office is convenient to where I live and it's easy to make an appointment. I've been seeing Dr. Asmus for years and have recommended friends and family to this practice. read more

Had my first visit today based on recommendation of a relative. Very friendly, professional staff, modern equipment (which made dilating my pupils for exam unnecessary). My concern was more related to general eye health rather than vision, and Dr. Yu was great at explaining what the results of the different tests meant. I'll definitely go back. read more

I made my first visit to this local optometrist last week, and give them the highest possible recommendation, with the caveat that they are not cheap compared to big box optometry. But you sure get your money's worth! Everything about this operation was top-notch. The office is spotless and comfortable. Dr. Yu and the staff were warm and welcoming as well as thoroughly professional. The high-tech exam was easily the most comprehensive I have ever had, and I am now eagerly awaiting what will probably be my best pair of eyeglasses ever. If you need glasses or contacts and are willing to indulge yourself, this is the place to go. read more

I've been coming here for many years and seeing Dr Asmus. They are always very professional and thorough. I like how the staff is very aware of my insurance and are always considerate of my need to keep my costs down. Highly recommended! read more

Everyone working here is super helpful and kind. Both Dr. Yu and Dr. Asmus have each gone above and beyond to help with me and my teenage son. This is a wonderful place for anyone looking for glasses or contacts. Also the location is great! Right in the middle of Point Richmond. I highly recommend this place! read more

Great service, Dr. Way Yu was kind and knowledgeable, thorough and patient. Thanks! Glad to have found a great optometrist close to home.

Exceptional eye exam and service! Dr. Yu was very personable and thorough. From the moment I walked in, everyone was so nice and helpful! I highly recommend Point Richmond Optometry, hands down. The best part for me,being a migraine sufferer, was not having to have my eyes dilated! Instead they used a much better practice of scanning the eye! So great!! read more

This is the best optometry/eyeglass provider you will ever find. The equipment is ultra modern and the people working there are knowledgeable and helpful. I ordered 2 pairs of glasses. Turned out my insurance provider was overloaded and lenses ended up on backorder. The people at Point Richmond Optometry wanted me to have new glasses and actually paid for the lenses to be done at their own lab. When they arrived the fit was perfect, lenses perfect as well. These folks go above and beyond. I've been to a number of optometrists and will never go anywhere else. Recommend highly! read more

My special needs daughters went to this facility to get eye care as we are new to the bay area and have many medical needs. Due to having been on heart bypass machines for extended time as an infant and toddler, studies are now showing that inability to focus, attention span, memory as well as information processing are all side effects of these procedures in early years of life and of congenital heart defects. Although my daughter appears to not have disabilities, she suffers from many on a daily basis. Upon doing the eye exam where you push the button when you see lights flash, the hourly staff member, Liberty, looked at my daughter and said, "for some reason you are doing really bad at this". Being that my daughter is very soft spoken and kind and already handling issues most elderly people cannot relate to, she wanted the visit to go well and get good care for her eyes, she said nothing and just internalized the pain of her statement. She felt stupid, she felt like a failure, she felt not good enough. She said nothing to them until she got home and told me what happened. My daughter works full time, goes to college, is financially independent at 21 while facing major medical issues that she also takes on herself which all takes a lot of time and is very difficult to face for anyone let alone at such a young age. She is doing more than most young adults whom have no medical issues to face. I called the office to speak with the staff to make sure they are aware of ADA rights and to inform them they had failed at respecting the law and also acted in a bullying way. People with non visible disabilities are descriminated against in our society every day, even in schools and even at the very doctors offices they need to attend for their ongoing care and survival. I informed the office manager Laura of this very serious issue. Laura would not let me speak, would be interuptive with constant defense of Liberty instead of just simply being humble and listen to a very serious issue. Lisa again becane aggitated when I informed her Liberty had broken the law and disrespected the rights of my disabled daughter. Lisa said, "we did not discriminate" I continued to educate Lisa that actually to tell my daughter she was really bad at that test was the equivelant of telling someone in a wheelchair ,"I don't know why but your doing a bad job walking". The level of unawareness in the non visible disability world is a serious crisis and is a very Iimportant issue. The doctor followed up with me, gave us a refund so we can get an optomistrist who is compliant with ADA rights and in touch with non visibly disabled patients. She also told me they would be learning from this incident and would be conducting continued training for this serious issue to never happen again. Although the doctor on the phone was also very reactive and clearly just wanted us not to return, by the end of the.phone call I think she got the bigger picture, at least I hope so. We will be notifying the BBB, our insurance company and multiple other agencies as to their lack of ability to treat patience with non visible disabilities with respect and to not humiliate them for their disabilities. Its hard enough for young adults with CHD to face all the harsh realities of their birth defects, this type of behavior is just plainly unacceptable. I know some people reading this will think this is a rediculous rant, but I suggest you living the life of a non visibly disabled young adult for a day beforr you judge. Think before you react and pass judgement, you never know who is facing major medical hardships, we are not all in wheelchairs. read more

Wow! I am writing this review without reading glasses because Dr Asmus, got me into contacts that make them superfluous! I had gone the Costco route for years and then decided I wanted better care. So worth the difference in price! .Dr Asmus is the perfect blend of professional and personable and the staff is also a pleasure to deal with. My initial apprehension was that they could not tell me what the fee for the contact lens fitting would be. It turned out to be the best 60.00 I ever spent. I highly recommend! Thanks Dr. Asmus! read more

I had my eye exam in January this year in this store, a few weeks ago, I accidentally hit my frame, so I went back to have Sandra adjusted for me, she did good job that time. A few days ago, I hit the frame again, so I went again, Sandra told me the plastic string holding the lenses needed to be replaced. But maybe she did not tighten it well, so I went back, this time was Liberty, and she did not fix it. I went yesterday, Liberty still could not fix it. Liberty told me there is part missing due to tear and wear, how could that be possible? This can only happen after the screws are removed. I think this happened during the process of replacing the plastic string. Both Lisa and liberty told me the frame is too old, can no longer be adjusted. It's time for me to buy new glasses. They are not responsible at all because once you let them adjust, you waive all their responsibilities. The frame was fine before the string was replaced, after that, the lenses were not fixed in the frame, they tended to fall off, when I held two ends of the glasses, twisted, both ends were rotating. I paid a few hundred dollars for this frame. How could it only last for a few years? As I said earlier, it was just fine, only needed some adjustment on nose pad. I just went to the first optical in Oakland Chinatown, Christina fixed it, she told me there was indeed part missing and she put a new part for me. Now it feels just like before, Christina told me they can still last for at least a few years. To say the least, Sandra, Liberty and Lisa in Point Richmond optometry don't know too much about adjusting my frame. I will never let them touch my glasses again. But nevertheless, to be honest, their attitude were nice. I spoke to Lisa about photochromic lenses, she seemed to be knowledgeable. read more

I was in desperate need of new glasses and visited Point Richmond Optometry while visiting family in SF. I made an appointment on a Saturday afternoon and didn't have to wait. Dr. Yu was so helpful, she answered all of my questions and made me feel comfortable while I was starring into that crazy machine. I've always known I had an astigmatism but Dr. Yu was the first doctor to truly explain my condition in a way I could understand. I didn't feel rushed or pressured to purchase frames. They had a nice selection of glasses and I ended up with really cute Gucci glasses. Yay for Gucci...boo for my wallet! Highly recommended! read more

For nearly 10 years, I've been a patient of Dr. Paula Asmus. She's very conscientious and patient, making use of the most up-to-date tools of her craft. Dr Asmus has retained very professional staff over those years. Her office is bright, clean and, again, up-to-date. There's a wide range of eye wear in price and design, easy to view and 'test drive'. Even reading material is fairly current.....not that I've had to wait much before an appointment. On appointments--Yelpers should note that the office has Wednesday hours into the early evening. read more

We used to go to UC Tang Center because my wife had a vision plan through UC where she worked. We were very happy to find out Point Richmond Optometry qualifies for VSP. It's $40 extra for the eye scan-totally worth it not to have to have your eyes dilated with drops. Good place: quick, professional. I always feel well taken care of. read more

They saved the day for me! In celebration of the new year's my eyeglass frames got severely bent out of shape (don't ask how) and were my only pair (lesson learned) since I am visiting from out of town. I was recommended their service and it was very much appreciated. I was a walk-in and they serviced me quickly and successfully. I was very impressed with the professionalism and cheerfulness of the staff and would highly recommend them. read more

This was my first visit, and I am looking forward to my next. I haven't had my eyes checked since high school, and I knew they were not as good as they used to be, but everything was well explained, and the exams were fun to do. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit. read more

I saw Dr. Yu a few days ago for a concerning change in my vision. I was able to get an appointment the next day and left reassured as she is very thorough in her questions, testing and exam. The office staff is friendly and professional, the office is lovely, and they have a very good selection of lenses (with a 50% off sale coming up)! read more

I meant to write this months ago but couldn't find time till now to do so. I just wanted everyone to know the wonderful experience that I had and that Dr. Asmus and Point Richmond Optometry have me now as their loyal customer. Back in January, my wife referred me to Dr. Asmus to get my eyes checked and to get new glasses and contacts. Dr. Asmus is my wife's doctor and she trust Dr. Asmus with her eyes. I hesitated at first because I am the type of guy that hates going to the doctors because they always seem to find something wrong with you, and I hate going to the dentist because of the same reason, so I'm the type that would rather treat myself through WebMD, but Dr. Asmus and her entire staff made the entire experience as comfortable as can be for me, and I really appreciated that. Yeah, she found out that I had some drying to my eyes, but some simple over the counter, non-preservative artificial tears would do the trick to fix the problem. Nothing serious at all. I was scared she was going to say that I couldn't wear contacts anymore or that I was going blind, but nothing that serious was ever stated by her. Dr. Asmus is wonderful. Her staff is wonderful. I got a great pair of glasses that looks and feels awesome. I also got contacts that fit better than the old 1990's pair that are so old that you could only buy them through 1-800-CONTACTS. I guess I will see Dr. Asmus and her crew all again in a years time if not sooner, and I'm looking forward to it (no pun intended). read more

The staff is great, and the practice seems to use very modern equipment. Dr. Paula Asmus took time with me to explain exam results--she is a people person and very easy to talk with. If I were a working mom now, as I once was, I'd appreciate the Saturday and evening time slots read more

I have been going to this place for several years now, and they are the best! They have state of the art equipment that allows the eye exam to be done without dilation. Nice. They are both friendly and professional. My recent visit for my annual checkup went smoothly and the optometrist, Paula Asmus, told me I didn't need to get new glasses until next year which saved me a bundle of money. read more

I stop by Point Richmond Optometry about 6 months ago where I saw Dr. Yu. Dr. Yu was great, she was very professional in my eye exam, and explained to me the what and whys about my particular ailments. Even though I was the last patient of the day, Dr. Yu took her time to give me a through exam. When it came time for my to choose frames, Dr. Yu was incredibly helpful in pointing out frames that would fit my face. Even better, she helped explain to me the in-and-out of my particular vision insurance plan, so that I got the best bang for my buck. I'd definitely will come back to Dr. Yu and Point Richmond Optometry for my next eye exam! read more

If you are blessed to be able to access the office of Dr. Paula Asmus at Point Richmond Optometry, you have hit the jackpot!. I have been going to Dr Asmus for over 25 years. Her diagnostic and thorough eye evaluations are more than what one would receive at an optometrist's office. She was instrumental in helping me with the diagnosis of macular degeneration and continues to be helpful in fitting me to the right corrective lenses. She has a wonderful calming personality and her office and staff are pleasant.
