I must be getting old or lenscrafters is CRAP! Had first eye exam in a couple of years. These guys used contraptions on my eyes, I don't ever remember being examined with. It took an hour to complete this very thorough eye exam. Good news eye site improving! Very clean efficient office, and better yet a 15 min bike ride away. Staff very friendly and the Doc was a pro, great to work and consult with. She took the time to explain things in plan English even used flip chart with diagrams and images to explain astigmatism. There was a A little pressure to purchase eye glasses from them, they had a nice but limited selection. However, I trust these folks with my eyeballs from now on. read more

I would recommend this place to all my friends and acquaintances for sure. The customer service exceeds all expectations. They have safety protocols such taking your temperature , face guards and plenty of hand sanitizer. In addition they limit the amount of patients in the building putting all covaid concerns to rest. One of my pet peeves is communication and they far exceed this too! They communicate by text so if you have any questions or concerns and they are very prompt to respond. I love Dr Asmus and the entire team at Point Richmond Optometry. I've been coming here for many years and they have always been patient, kind, and professional. I'm no easy case - well, to clarify, my "poor little left eye" isn't! It took us a while, but we finally figured out what my issues are (again, not "me", my left eye!) and have been able to track tweaks and aging process ever since. I trust this team so much, now that I've moved out of state, I arrange my CA business travel based on Dr Asmus' availability. I love this office. The entire staff is friendly, professional and efficient. The space has nice natural lighting and the frame selection is excellent without being overwhelming. Customer service is excellent here. Katrina, Lisa, Dr. Asmus, and Dr. Yu have been caring and just wonderful to work with. Everything seems very clean, and patients are well-cared for. Because I live in the neighborhood, they are a convenient location for me to get my eye exam done. I really like the folks here, but unfortunately it's likely I will never purchase my contacts from them again. Purchasing from an online retailer would have been more convenient. The 3 stars come from the fact that it has taken almost 4 weeks for my contacts to be delivered. I ordered a year's supply of contact lenses on December 10, 2015, and I had to contact Point Richmond Optometry last week to ask if they could update me on the progress of my contacts since it had already been over 2 weeks. When I initially ordered my contacts,I was told it would take a week to receive my contacts, but they just arrived at the office today. In 3 more days, I would have been waiting for 4 weeks. That is totally unacceptable. I understand the contacts are ordered from a third party, but to have me waiting with no updates on my order -- that just isn't right. By the time I called last week, apparently my shipment of contacts had already been lost for a week, but I hadn't been notified and I hope Point Richmond Optometry was also not notified because I would be even more disappointed. It wasn't until I called that Lisa reached out to the manufacturer to expedite another shipment of contacts for me. Where is the initial shipment from Dec 10? I have no idea. Now the contacts are here, but the office is already closed, and I won't be able to pick up the contacts until Wednesday when their business hours stay open later. I've been wearing the same contacts for about 6 weeks now, so I can't wait to pick up my new contacts on Wednesday! read more

Dr. Yu is the sweetest and most patient optometrist I've had in a long time. Over the years I've been to a few different offices but never really settled into one where I was happy with both the front desk AND the Dr, but this place is AH-MAZING. You ladies at the front desk- you're always super sweet, happy to answer my questions or take messages, and know your stuff. You've helped me with prescriptions, referrals, glasses and my insurance issues. And Dr. Yu is always cheerful, sympathetic, patient and willing to answer any questions or concerns even if it's emailing me over the weekend to check in. I've been battling Ocular Rosacea for months now and everyone in this office has been very supportive even when I broke down and cried out of frustration with my eyes. This is hands down the best optometry I've ever been to. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. I just moved to the bay at the end of last year and was in need of finding a new optometrist. Our new puppy found her way to my glasses and absolutely destroyed them so this became a top priority (luckily still had about a 3 month supply of contacts to keep me afloat!). The optometrist is such a nice, fun to talk to woman. I had a feeling that my prescription was wrong from my last optometrist and she helped me find the perfect fit. She even checked and double checked to make sure. I'm really thankful for her hard work. Then, another woman helped me choose frames that fit my face and style. I don't know how she did it, but every single pair of frames she handed me looked amazing. I was just about ready to buy five new frames if only insurance would allow. My overall experience is great and I really like Dr. Asmus. I feel relaxed the whole time and appreciate the care and information Dr. Asmus provided me. The front desk is nice and helpful as well in scheduling and helping me pick my frames and whatnot. I just find it pesky that I have to ask for copies of my prescription every time (3 times now), instead of having them offered to me. I have never went to an office like this. Usually I go for my annual exam at any other office, and bam I get all the prescriptions I want, and it's just more convenient that way for me because I get to choose where I want to buy from, either from the office or elsewhere. So I asked the front desk for hard copies of my prescription. One of them was incorrect and they called me to fix my ordering and everything; however, they never really offered to send me the updated version, and I had to ask for it weeks later. I recommend this place. Came here for the first time at 4pm Wednesday, during November 2020. Plenty of street parking. This office maintained an excellent level of cleanliness -- sterilized pens at the front desk, wiped down chairs/tabletops/machinery between each use. The display glasses frames are sterilized in UV rays before you book an appt to try them on. Adheres to social distancing and mask-wearing. Seems like they have a capacity cap on patients. Service was also amazing. The aide was very transparent about what each part of the exam cost, allowing me to opt out beforehand. The optometrist Paula was informative and lovely -- probably the most fun I've had at an eye appt, chatting with her and learning about my eyeballs. Overall seem prompt and organized. *They offer a discount to ppl who post Yelp reviews. I decided to take a chance and called Point Richmond Optometry since Costco didn't answer after 3 phone calls. They answered after one ring. I don't have insurance and the prices were reasonable ($160 for glasses and $60-100 for contacts). I was able to go in for an exam the same day. The staff is very attentive and thorough with everything. My doctor for the visit, Paula, was so nice and wanted to get to know me too instead of just doing my eye exam. If you do or don't have insurance, I would still recommend this office because of the quality of service and the overall vibe of it. The only recommendation I would have is to have more frame selections. I have a wider face and most of the frames were small. read more

Last year when Shelter in Place first started I had just run out of contact lenses. Point Richmond Optometry helped me out and had my prescription filled and sent to me in 3 days. I went in today and had a full eye exam with Dr. Yu and I only have positive things to write about the staff members that work here. They are very mindful of sanitizing all the equipment including the front door knobs, and they are all very professional and kind. They explain all of the tests given and most importantly Dr. Yu really listens and makes recommendations from a problem solving point of view. I am both near and far sighted, and her way of explaining what I can do for better daily eye health as well as long term vision correction is so helpful. I want to give a 5-star but yelp won't let me. I had a one-year follow up visit with Dr. Yu. When I arrived, the staff welcomed me and treated me with professionalism and excellent customer service. As my tests began, the tech explained every step of what she was doing and the importance of it. Then I met with Dr. Yu. She spent a bit of time ensuring I was ok with this whole covid situation, then she proceeded to run her tests. She explained everything in a way that I understood. She listened, answered my questions, and provided excellent care. As I place my order for new glasses, I did not feel pressured into buying anything I did not want. The tech informed me what was available but did not push me to buy anything. I did end up adding a tint effect (glasses turn into shades when it with direct light), but that was my choice. I go to pick up my glasses.... again, the staff treated me kindly. The tech helped me get my glasses fitted. I've never been more impressed by an optometrist's office. The process to make an appointment was easy. The receptionists are friendly, clear, and had my insurance information processed and ready to go for my appointment. They know exactly what was covered and what wasn't. Dr. Yu was also very friendly and thorough. She listened to my concerns and took a full health history. I've never had an optometrist spend so much time on an annual eye exam. Most just hurry you along as they are over-booked. Not at Point Richmond Optometry. It seems like they actually make time for their patients. The office is very clean and organized. There is usually 80's/90's R&B or soul playing in the waiting area. I do have vision insurance so I can't comment on how great of a value they are offering. However, I personally will be back and hope to be their patient forever. read more

Dr Yu is really sweet and really listens to you. Parking isn't too bad and they have extended hours which is awesome! I knocked off a star because their frame selection is limited but I've always been able to find a frame I like.
