I have about 10 pairs of glasses with them now and have brought most people I know who wear glasses into the store for a new pair or two or three of glasses and the level of care and attention to detail to everyone I bring and myself is so above and beyond with what I've gotten in the past before I found The Optician. Then when I went to check out I should have only paid $15 copay but was charged for the retina exam. WHen I returned to discuss the charge they said only the manager could process the refund. After I got our appointment time wrong and showed up way too early (even after the 24 hr. reminder), we were still accommodated! The check up was thorough. The doctor took his time giving my husband and myself a comprehensive exam, after which Hazel was especially helpful in finding the right frames that fit our budget. The office is quaint, very clean, and has a nice selection of frames. They are also very mindful of COVID mandates and do not overbook. They allow no more than 2 customers at a time for safety purposes, and clean all areas after use. The customer service is exceptional! The doctor is efficient, and precise. If you try to make an appointment online by clicking their emails that remind you to, they say they'll call you and they never do. The only way to do it is to call them. It's weird that they give you the option to get a call back but never do. The front desk doesn't really make eye contact when you go, and are a bit cold. I found Solano EyeCare through my VSP coverage and made an appointment here for my annual checkup…read more Although everyone was very friendly, I found the optometrist unusually pushy on products and upgrades. Such as highly recommending additional tests just to be safe. And pushing for separate computer glasses without really providing an understanding of why they could be optional. Additionally, I suffer from the occasional red eye due to dry tear ducts and long hours in front of a computer due to work. To remedy this, I use a lubricating eye drop which the optometrist claimed I shouldn't use as it supposedly had preservatives. Instead, she tried to push a costly eyedrop brand they carried in-house. This claim however that my over-the-counter eyedrops contained preservatives was definitely false. As the bottles clearly state that they are preservative free. And was recommended to me by an ophthalmologist I had just seen last year. To add insult to injury, the salesperson who helped me to pick out new frames never disclosed to me additional discounts that VSP was offering for certain brands. I only wound up finding out about it after going home and seeing the various promotions through VSP's website for Solano EyeCare. When confronted about it when I went to pickup my new glasses, they stated that it was my responsibility to know what promotions my provider was offering. This is the only optometrist I've ever visited that wasn't aware of or otherwise disclosed additional discounts off specific brands at the time of sale. I understand the need to upsell. But everything about my experience at Solano EyeCare just felt dishonest and non-transparent.

When I found the glasses originally, I was in San Ramon and I was helped by a wonderful salesperson whose name I unfortunately forgot. Once I had my prescription I went to the Berkeley store, out of convenience; big mistake! Especially, since the first salesperson in Berkeley confused me and apparently herself with my prescription, (progressive), and I ultimately ended up with single vision lenses, Instead of progressive. Something I was told only when I returned to a second salesperson in Berkeley Let me tell you about this second salesperson though, cause they were quite rude and judgmental. In fact they seemed to assume I made my purchasing decisions based on cost. No, no, I made my decisions based on confusion! In fact even after a second salesperson and two opticians I am still unhappy and will make sure I go back to corporate with these comments to make sure I get EXACTLY what I need and want. The first optician was nice, but super fast and didn't say much; so I was again a bit confused. The second optician was more verbal but just as rude as the second salesperson. Janet Chan is warm, gentle and exudes kindness. She was able to figure out my exact prescription very efficiently (usually it takes a lot longer) but she seems more competent than the average optometrist in her ability to arrive at the prescription strength for my glasses. Her office staff particularly the girl who helped me locate glass frames were good at finding something I liked. I essentially found a pair of frames that was covered 100 percent by insurance and for the lens, I brought all the bells and whistles including UV protection (transitional lens), glare and scratch resistance, thin lens and the latest reading/distance glasses which added up to 400 dollars and my last pair of glasses was more than a 1000 dollars. Hopefully I will like the final product in a few weeks. So far, I am glad to have found such a great optometrist in my neighborhood thanks to the referral one of my co-workers gave me recently.
