Untouched or updated from whenever construction was completed, it's got more Jerry-rigged piping and lighting and whatnot than MacGyver's play dungeon, but somehow it all works, and remains a great place to grab a shot or 12 if you're in Reseda. Famous for being cash only, and for pouring drinks stiffer than last week's cadaver, this unabashed dive bar attracts a crowd that can be friendly or fierce, depending on the time of day or the number of drinks consumed. But the staff is uniformly friendly (huge shout out to the always wonderful Rebecca), and, again, the generosity of the pours makes up for the other flaws in their flue. The walls are covered with more vendor-branded signs and mirrors than you can shake a swizzle stick at, and they've got several TV's playing the current games. They've also got a great juke box, a pool table, several mechanical dart boards, and one of those old time puck slider boards -- so if you're looking to compete with your fellow flies, there's ample opportunity. They don't serve food here, but they've got plenty of snacks available for purchase to counteract the gargantuan pours, and people bring in meals from the adjacent eateries. This is not the place you bring someone on a first date -- or a 50th -- but if you do bring in a mate, and they do say, "hey this is fun," then you should start shopping for curtains.

I do not like this place. Yes, the drinks are cheap, yes, the people are unpretentious, yes, there's a sort of relaxed atmosphere and some of the bartenders are really cool. But Pogo's is not a dive in the good way so much as a place where the south eastern Valley's finest (read: trashiest) often assemble to get shitfaced drunk. There was a local bum hanging around outside both nights I was there last month. There was also a twacked out scary tweeker lady roaming around. The first night, some gross older man was rubbing my back. The next night, his girlfriend was (drunk and) all upset because he had called her and told her he had some woman coming over. I don't know. My friend got involved in the conversation. I sat in a dirty plastic chair wanting to leave, wishing we could go somewhere, anywhere else...a paisa bar in Pacoima? Bring it on. I couldn't feel any more uncomfortable than I did at Pogo's at that moment--or any more bored. The Pogo's plus: they have some decent beers on tap, and, as I said before, they're inexpensive. Try the Strawberry Cheesecake shot; it's delicious (also cheap). There's the occasional cute young guy in there, too, but they're usually with their girlfriends--and you can usually get the chisme on them from a regular (for instance, my friend, who tells me the dirt on anyone our age who she knows; it generally effectively makes them less attractive right quick). So, Pogo's in a nutshell: Middle aged alcoholics. 20-something alcoholics. Tweekers. White trash. "Redneck Woman" on the jukebox. Lotsa penis music. Dirty old men. If you HAVE to have a drink close to home, it's okay, I guess. But I'd rather drive to LA and go to somewhere that's actually, you know, cool. Pogo's makes me kind of sad. read more

The staff is fabulous! But, I wish I could leave NO STARS for the OWNERS. Marvin, the owner and his wife, are a complete waste of air! I occasionally have drinks in this establishment with friends as it is close to my house. But on a Sunday late afternoon, when I was enjoying my time after a few drinks with friends, I was verbally attacked by another patron for no discernible reason. I understand it is not necessarily the owners fault in such matters, however today (a week or so later) when I attempted to express my concern and disappointment about his lack of involvement to the situation, I was rebuffed and insulted by Marvin (the owner). He stated that I said something derogatory to the other patron. I never once spoke to the individual, never once made a remark regarding the individual. The owner, Marvin and his wife Martha, were both on the premises in the office during this verbal attack. I asked him to review the incident on the surveillance video, and he would not even deign to acknowledge it. I will never again set foot in this decrepit location. There are many other local bars which ensure the safety of it's female patrons. The Paragon, nearby, is beyond and above such a fine establishment where a female alone can enjoy an evening in solitary without such an incident of abuse, not only by other patrons, but also the owner. I strongly urge all patrons expecting fair and equal treatment without abuse from others, let alone the owners to find another venue. read more

Worst bar in the valley about sums it up. The bartenders are the most rude and ignorant people I have ever met. If your not careful they will give you the wrong change I gave them a 50 my beer was 5 they only gave me a 5 back at first when I confronted them they denied it but then went to their tip jar and got my change out that should tell you something (thieves). Also this is a DRUG BAR I saw two different people at two different times scoring drugs. If you want shots forget it they are half the size of almost every other dive bar in the valley for double the money. The security guards are a bunch of thugs I saw them mess with more then one person for no reason at all. With all the choices in the valley this shouldn't even be a last option. Save your time, protect your money and stay the heck away from this ****hole. read more

This bar has been a go to but is going down the drain every single time I make my way down there. Bartender is always an old grump asshole. They removed the dartboard and on top of it extremely raised the price on drinks! Oh and don't let me forget the pool table as well. Not to mention the old grumps girlfriend works there and is disgusting. I saw her walk out the bar to smoke comes back in coughing and attend customers without washing her hands. Keep in mind she's the one pouring your drinks and giving your food. Point is pogos has gone down the drain. You can head to springbok, way more friendly and minus the disgusting service and prices. read more

So i walked in and it was a total blast from the past...Apparently this is a true "neighborhood bar" because everyone seemed to know each other from High School.....Hey not a big deal...Sat down and had awesome service from the poison pusher, Great pours and extremely reasonable prices.. Had two JD whiskey sours and a beer and it was under 15 bucks...I saw a dude eating a burger and it looked bomb! Definitely be back! Oh yea.....and I instantly felt like I knew the regulars since High school too. Unpretentious and reasonable. My kind of bar! read more

I really like coming in here when I'm playing hookie from work and want to do a little day-drinking. (If you're my boss and reading this, I swear I never play hookie) They have Dodger Dogs and a decent food menu. I've never had a grumpy bartender. Service is quick. Drinks are inexpensive. The other patrons are friendly, as well. You can tell that this place has a lot of regulars, and it's good fun to watch the regulars mouth off to each other. read more

This is theeeee bar you go to after that fucked up date, after the dodger game, after the gym, after work , anything really , the food oh god those wings, nachos (chicken) , fish and chips the tacos oh god it's way more than just bar food, I legit go and pick up wings all the time , highly recommend this bar , but don't come and be stupid , this ain't the bar for that. I always pass by the bar and wanted to stop by and check it out since it's so close to where I live. But today I met the owner and he turned out to be such an a-hole and harassed me over a parking spot. If that's how he treats potential patrons then he doesn't deserve anyone's business. Disgusting security guards take away your drinks physically. That's what happened to me n my friends.. These 2 security guards acted like cops n tried to take away drinks when it wasn't even close to 2:00 am. These idiots should go home to their moms n quit there job.... I like to come here after work with my bestie. It's kind of my guilty pleasure. Its really laid back, eclectic crowd, and the food is really good. I highly recommend the pastrami sandwich. Anyway, this is a cool spot to come hangout and shoot pool. The place seemed pretty safe with no knuckle heads that night. Oh one last thing, there was a line for the girls bathroom because I think there is only one stall in there. The guys bathroom had a stall and a urinal so there wasn't really a line. I deleted the tomatoes and added extra peppers. Even if you keep the tomato on yours, definitely add extra peppers. The dog comes à la carte, but I added a side of their scratch-made onion rings, and they did not disappoint. Thinly sliced onions are dipped in a frothy beer batter and lightly fried, rendering them crispy, sweet and very tasty without being greasy or heavy. Perfect for dipping in any number of sauces, though they serve a side of ranch by default. Chris was tending bar, and took good care of me despite the place being very crowded for trivia night. Good energy from a good crowd, as always, and one of the best Chicago Dogs I've had in SoCal.
