A no-nonsense restaurant that has simple decorations, but really fresh food. Came on a weekday and had made a reservation, but it was quite quiet around dinner time. Isobe-Age (4/5) - $7.25 Taste: Never had an appy quite like this - raw tuna wrapped in tempura style seaweed. It was fresh, served warm, and the dashi broth that it was dipped in was delicious. The textures were complex, the fish was soft, while the seaweed was crunchy and somehow it worked. However, I'm not sure if I would have preferred this served as either a cold dish or a hot dish, but instead it was a bit of both? Portion Size: 4 pieces Deluxe assorted nigiri sushi (5/5) - $34.75 Taste: I would order this again in a heartbeat. They offer a wide selection of fish that is not served at most Japanese restaurants including shima-aji, homemade tamago, amaebi. I think the quality of the fish is extremely fresh and comparable to omakase spots in Vancouver. The tamago was especially delicious and I don't even typically prefer tamago. Portion Size: Good portion for 1 person [Value for Money] While it's quite far away from the city, I can vouch for the drive out. It's worth it to try this restaurant for the quality of its fish. Perhaps omakase you can get elsewhere, but the deluxe assorted sushi itself was WELL worth its price.

An absolute A+ to Chef Keith and Chika for their mastery of perfecting a great omakase experience in the tricities. They are reservations only (and for a good reason!) and this can be done on their new online portal!! by controlling the number of seatings, Chef K and Chika are able to interact and share their craft with patrons in an intimate and personal way. There is no hustle and bustle or fakeness that would otherwise follow some restaurant vibes. There is purely passion for fish, customer service and, of course, metal music! I urge you to dine at the chefs bar and let Chef K tell you his extensive and wonderful background from catering some A list bands, to being on tour, and changing restaurant models all while being fed an amazing feast. The fish is sourced from Japan and screams quality and flavour. He knows exactly what he's doing with all the fish profiles and pairing them with a variety of notes like shiso, yuzu and ginger. Between the 14 unbelievably mouth watering and satisfying dishes, Chef K and Chika's kindness shared the spotlight easily. Humble beginnings have led to an extraordinary and legendary journey for SKK. Some of the special highlights were the blue fin tuna, South American jumbo prawn, Spanish mackerel and the scallops. And no, my mother was out all day, and the only meal we shared together was this one as a family all day. It was a Sunday (August 17), and they are closed Monday, so it really felt like we got the tail end of the products before closing for a day, which is unfortunate if that's how they want to treat loyal customers, but giving them the stuff going bad before the weeks end. What is for certain is the food handling practices aren't up to par regardless if they want to utilize old stock before closing Monday, at least do your due diligence as a food handler to ensure it's safe to eat and not sitting in the danger zone for hours. Usually this place is really good so I'm a little perturbed by the lack of expertise/food handling standards I've come to expect.
