Poco Loco is a small restaurant with bar/countertop seating inside and an outdoor patio in back. The setting is very cozy, with the countertop seating being the focus. Service is quick and friendly, and our server made excellent recommendations. I went for the purpose of finally trying their salmon tacos, which a friend of mine had been raving about for some time. They were truly wonderful! The salmon came in nice sized pieces, and the meat was tender and flaky. The jalepeno guacamole had a fantastic bite to it, perfect with both the chips and the tacos. I wasn't a huge fan of their salsa in the bottle, but their house guacamole was also good. This is a great little spot that fills up quickly, so some planning is needed. I would definitely like to go back sometime and sit on the back patio. They have a nice choice of options I'd like to explore. read more

Wanted some Mexican for dinner tonight and this one was close to where I am staying. This is a quaint, tiny little building on a side street. While small, the wait staff was very inviting. Most of the seating is countertop, which allows for some conversation if you are feeling social. Let oks like they had a full bar, but I did not partake tonight. I ordered a chicken platter which came with Mexican street corn, rice and salad. Let's start with the salad. Usually it would take up half my plate, but this one was surprisingly small and not wasteful. Oh yes, and it actually tasted good. The rice was average, but the street corn was wonderful! I considered asking for a street corn to go, but refrained because I really would have just sat in the car and ate it right away. Definitely a go back side dish. The chicken was also delicious. It was grilled with what tasted like a tequila lime marinade. Wonderfully cooked and delicious. The only downside was that the chips and salsa are an additional charge. However I do recommend you try it. The salsa comes in a squeeze bottle, which was unusual, but I am sure helps to keep expenses for the restaurant reasonable. This tiny restaurant hidden in Brown Deer has the best smoked pork shoulder tacos I've ever had! They're only available on Fridays and Saturdays. Delicious, generously filled tacos, great pickled cabbage on top. The refried beans are very smooth and tasty and NOT salty! The Spanish rice was delicious tool. This was only our second visit, but the tacos are what brought us back here. While it only has counter service or carry out, the staff is great, and the other foods served looked delicious too. OMG, it's just a bar and the staff is rather suspect in their approach to seating. We were told 20 min, with threesomes ahead us. After 5 min, a group of two leave and we wait, and wait and then ask if they are going to sit anyone there. NOPE. They said it would be unfair to the groups ahead of us. I asked if another twosome leaves would we still have to wait unit all the threesomes are sat, YES!!! OMG, too ridiculous and they don't serve drinks to those waiting. More than anything was the tone when ask if I could get the permission of the others in front of us and they said we still won't sit you. Amazing! My parents owned the house across the street from this restaurant for 40 years and when they first opened my parents went to eat there...my mom said she wasn't impressed. Since then and based on her assessment, I've not bothered to try it. Last night my friend and I were nearby and with every other restaurant in the area having long wait times we decided to stop here. I can't believe I never gave this place a fair chance, the food was delicious and the service was excellent! I was eyeing some of the dishes coming out of the kitchen while we were waiting to order, both the salad and taco plates looked very appetizing, but I opted for the larger burrito(El Burro Grande) I never eat the side of rice and beans so figured this would be a better option for me than the tacos. Everything tasted so fresh and the burrito was slightly grilled, which I love. The burrito was stuffed with black beans guac, carne asada, rice...maybe sour cream and pico? Anyway it was great and easily enough for two people, I ended up taking half home for my husband, he also agreed it was very good. My friend ordered the carne asada enchiladas and she said they were a bit dry but she enjoyed them. All in all it was a great dining experience. The place itself is very small and only offers bar seating, which could be a turnoff for some people and I probably wouldn't come here with a large group. read more

I've had Poco Loco bookmarked for years after seeing some of the unique meat options for their tacos, like lamb and duck. I stopped in on a Tuesday hoping for a "Taco Tuesday" special of some sort, but no luck with that. My order consisted of two chipotle BBQ duck tacos with rice and no beans, a steak taco, and a shrimp taco. The rice seemed to be a thinner grain than most other Mexican restaurants serve. It tasted fine, but was a little more hard than I prefer, though not inedibly so. The duck tacos tasted great, though they were messy. Not only could less chipotle BBQ sauce allow the duck breast to shine through a bit more, it would drip a lot less liquid everywhere. There was quite a bit of duck meat in the tacos which was appreciated. I wanted more than two tacos but was hesitant because the menu didn't list an ala carte price for tacos. I asked if they offered that, specifically regarding a shrimp taco, and was told yes for $6. Although a higher price than I would prefer to pay, I was assured that it was worth it because there was "a lot of shrimp in it". Seeing that the steak tacos cost less on the menu than the shrimp tacos, I added one of those as well under the assumption that it cost less that a shrimp taco. I thought the shrimp taco was the more disappointing one of the three I tried. It only had three shrimp in it, which is more skimpy than "a lot of shrimp". The steak taco, however, was fantastic. I was initially taken aback by the steak being an entire piece of steak instead of cut up into strips, but as I ate it it made sense. An entire piece was easier to hold on to and less likely to fall out of the tortilla, thus making it less messy. The marinade on the steak was subtle but amazing. The suggested tip on the bill annoyed me because it was generated based on the grand total instead of the subtotal. You shouldn't be asking patrons to tip on tax. I also really didn't like that they automatically brought me chips and salsa as soon as I sat down without asking and then charged me for it. It's only $1.50, but you should still ask if the customer wants it. read more

But he's wheelchair bound and the front door has 3" sinkage so rolling him over is impossible for this old doll without some young buck to do some heavy listing. Then all seating is bar height. We were grateful for the the respect and procedures they have in place, outdoor dining, masks, washing stations, etc. The service and the food were delicious. Friends and I went to Poco Loco for brunch on a Friday morning. After driving past it many times, figured we would check it out. Poco Loco is a tiny little joint that could probably fit 50 people (maybe?)? There are no dining tables, the seatings are all counter bar style. We ordered tacos and enchilada. The steak taco I had were AMAZING! Steak was cooked perfectly and seasoned to perfection. Unfortunately the rice and beans were different to taste. Rice was under seasoned and beans had a funky taste to it so we didn't eat any. It's a nice place to grab snacks and drinks. I would go back for the steak tacos but it wouldn't be a recommendation to bring a large group of friends. read more

I used to love this place for a long time and this was the place that introduced and got me into skatewing. However, recently I feel like it has gone a little downhill over the past few times I have been there. Lately, I have had my burritos not even sealed (just a tortilla over the insides) and the meat not cut on multiple items, leaving just a large chunk in the taco or burrito. One of the final straws is charging a 15% service fee on carry out items AND also charging 50 cents per carry out item (which puts the "take out tip" at 20%). Then, on top of that, adding a tip line that incorporated the food items and the service fees into the cost. Not that I wouldn't give a 20% anyway, but having it mandated just rankles me for the principle. Overall, with the drop in quality and prices, it's hard to recommend against other competitors which have a similar offering like Bel Aire, Corazon, or heck even Taco Stop MKE now. read more

Higher quality food than your typical Mexican restaurant. The ingredients does not need make you feel bloated, sleepy. Everything is a few nothces higher even among the basics like the chips they serve. On Fridays and Weekends they have a smokes briquet that was better than most BBQ places you'll attend. The varieties of sauces were amazing. Very intimate setting, especially the outdoor seating. It's in a great location for walking around, connected to a trial and quite neighborhood. read more

I've said it before! This place is wonderful! Great food, drinks, and staff! The ambiance is bar casual cozy. Come alone, come with friends, come with your family, come with your service animal! I wouldn't bring small kids because this is a small bar but there is outside seating in warm weather. People bring kids quite often. They'll just be all scrunched up asking lots of questions about why everyone keeps saying the Margheritas are so great. You'll spend your entire evening explaining to them that they are delicious and they can't have one. If that's how you have fun, bring the kids! Even in the Wisconsin winter cold, you'll feel warned by this little visit to Mexico. No plane. No train. No cruise. Just drive up, walk in, and let the fun begin! I'm lucky! While I've been coming to Poco Loco for years now and the food remains great, the service has gotten consistently worse. I went for dinner last night excited to have their food again but was in shock about the service. We waited 45 minutes for our order to be taken; drinks took 25 minutes to order; two of the people I was with didn't have the sides with their meal that the waitress mentioned it should come with. I wish I could give it a higher rating, as it is such a great Northshore staple, but I don't plan on dining in any time soon. Seating is only outdoor right now, which is lovely because they have a large tent and space heaters. Tables are defiantly closer than 6 feet, but I didn't mind. The chips and salsa are always to die for; the chips are seasoned and the salsa isn't spicy but is smoky. I always get a prickly pear margarita; they're super sour and delicious! I got the veggie enchiladas which came with rice and beans. They were delicious as well! In the past I've tried their guac which is okay. Overall, I adore their food. Our dinner and drinks were excellent. Very authentic Mexican food. The staff were super friendly. I felt like they had already known us as past patrons and it was the first time we ate at the restaurant. It is a very small restaurant, but very quaint and comfortable. Just get there early as it fills up fast. I believe the restaurant limit holds approximately 99 people. We will definitely dine at this restaurant again! read more

I really didn't expect much when I walked into Poco Loco the first time. I looked at the small menu and noticed there were a few Mexican items and the chalk board on the wall listed a few fish specials, so I guess this is what they do. The server recommended a special they had that day, a grilled butter fish. It was the best tasting fish dish I've ever had, seriously. It was cooked perfectly! On another visit, I sat on their patio and ordered the Poco Plate Lunch with rice, beans and chunks of pork in a chili verde sauce. It was good, but not one of the best chili verde pork dishes I've had. The star on that visit was the patio. They have a tiki bar on the patio which I could not enjoy since I was on my lunch break from work, but I vow to return for Happy Hour while the weather still allows. On both of my visits, the service was good and I think the prices were fair. Poco Loco (Spanish for "a little crazy") is a great place for a quick lunch and Happy Hour during the summer. Give them a try. By the way, they only accept cash, but there is an ATM at the entrance. read more

The food-I ordered an enchilada dinner and a tamale. The enchilada was pretty good and so were the beans. The rice was odd. It was Jasmine rice but was orange and flavored, tasted okay. I ordered a chicken tamale. It was super soggy and gross. The atmosphere was well decorated but very limited seating. It felt tight and cramped. The servers did not communicate with each other well at all. They both worked on the orders. At the end I realized they charged me for a side of rice and beans (I had to ask for them since they forgot to include with the dinner). They thought it was al a carte when I ordered the dinner. That was a huge deal for them to change the receipt. Then after they reprinted the check I realized they charged me for the tamale as a dinner, not al a carte. That was $9.50! By then I was so frustrated I did not want to ask them to make another correction. Will not be going back. read more

Don't go!! While waiting for our food. The waitress placed her left hand inside the garbage can to pull it out. To receive a silver lid that was stored between the garage Can and the wall with her right hand. Places the garbage can back in it's place with her hand still in the can. Placed the silver lid over something at the time didn't know what is was. 2 seconds later returns with our food. My husband asked for more chips. This is my parent's favorite Mexican places so I end up here about twice a month. Their margaritas need work (go to corazon to see what a house margarita should be), but their food is very good. The highlights of the menu are the blue crab quesadilla, the Yucatán pork chop, and the salad with creamy cilantro dressing and chicken. Their flan is also a great way to finish the meal. It isn't fancy, the chips can be inconsistent, but overall it's about as good as it gets on the north shore. Stay away from the steak fajitas. read more

When I first walked in it was very crowded. Small place but I didn't put two and two together considering it was a cantina. Kind of pricey for drinks and food but when the food arrived I was beyond impressed it was fast and beyond my expectations! Food was immaculate I will definitily be going there again! When you used to love the restaurant but the server has ruined it for you. Food was fine, nothing special. But the Rude and rushed service was the most disappointing. My daughter was trying to ask about menu items that would be safe for her and her celiac disease and the server was annoyed and unhelpful. This Poco isn't Loco! Ok, maybe a little. This little cantina is found in the original Brown Deer Village. I've been several times, but not as much as recently because they now accept credit cards. The interior is small and cozy. No tables and chairs at this place. It houses a continuous, curvaceous bar where you can enjoy some great food and friendly banter with strangers. Quaint outside patio with standard tables and chairs, outdoor lighting and a wall of evergreens to block the traffic on Brown Deer Rd.. So why three stars? The food is good and reflective of the Yucatan kind-of theme. Chips and salsa aren't free-- big bummer, but I like how the salsa comes in bottles for generous pouring. The prices are on the high-end. I ordered a chicken salad in a bed of lettuce and dressing. The entree didn't come with accompanying corn tortillas as advertised in the menu. No big deal as I'm not a big corn kind-of-guy. It's a good lunch spot for sure as there isn't any competition within 10 minutes (And I don't count Habaneros a block away-- that place has gone downhill). I'll be back, but not too soon and not for more than a few drinks and chips as a prelude to a dinner spot elsewhere. read more

I grew up in SoCal and lived in Mexico for a while, so I try to be understanding when people far from the border try to serve Mexican food. But man, there are limits even to my saint-like patience. The problems began when the server asked if we wanted pico de gallo with a basket of chips. We hadn't studied the menu yet, so It never occurred to us they'd gouge us $3.50 for a cup of salsa. After all the raving reviews, we were a bit astonished by the other menu prices too. We've been to sit-down Mexican eateries in San Diego and Malibu that don't charge prices like this. But we were hungry. So we ordered. Then waited. And waited some more. Finally a different server brought our food ... to the table next to us. I know a disaster when I see one. And when we saw our two dinners -- my quesadilla dinner and A's enchilada plater -- set down in front of the four people who'd come in 15 minutes after us, we knew we were in for a very long haul. We flagged down our server and told him what was going on. At first he tried to argue, but he finally said he'd take care of it and walked off. Sadly, he didn't offer to refill the empty basket of chips sitting on our table, or offer to comp us some pico de gallo or guac or another Corona or something. I'll spare you further details, but after another ~20 minutes, we got food. And it sucked. And the portions were truly dinky for this much money. As they were leaving, the lady at the table that had gotten our first dinners, told us they come to Poco Loco regularly, and what we'd experienced wasn't typical service there. A lady at another nearby table seconded that opinion. Okay, we'll take their word for it. But better service still wouldn't make up for the lackluster food, small portions, or high prices. Very disappointed as this use to be my fav place. They now serve salsa out of ketchup bottle. We waited 25 min to order and the waiter got a terrible attitude when my daughter was telling her what she wanted on her taco saying it would to confusing for the kitchen. When every time we have come they were more than happy. This disgraceful person is the reason we will never go back! Her tone got extremely rude and her behavior to my daughters was so unbearable. What grown woman has a attitude with a 8 year old child that has dietary restrictions. I was mortified so we left immediately. Since moving from Southern California we've been looking for a great Mexican restaurant with fresh ingredients...we found it! We started with margaritas and chips and guacamole. Chips were tasty with a fun seasoning on them and the salsa and guacamole took it up another notch. For our entrees we had the Blue Crab quesadilla and the Tilapia tacos. The flavors were traditional and fresh plus the house made sauce was amazing . Loved my corn tortillas for my tacos without having to ask. Closed the night with their fried banana desert...a must so yummy! read more
