The major draw for this place is definitely the neat glass bottles you can take away from this place. For tourists, it's a nifty little souvenir. For locals, it's one less glassware I have to buy at Ikea. It does up the price of the average milk tea to around $5 and that's before the toppings/boba is counted. But then again, you're in SF and most of the trendy boba shops are that expensive these days. I had the CoffMilk which was a coffee milk tea and I was disappointed that it didn't look like what was pictured on the menu with the swirls of white and dark brown floating down to the bottom. Instead, it was already all mixed in and looked similar to a Starbucks Frappuccino bottle. Taste-wise, it was just as similar to the Mocha Frap you can buy at Safeway although slightly more diluted with the ice. Tea-wise, I'm not blown away. I wouldn't fork over my $5 for it on any occasion except for when I'm needing a new bottle or have a friend visiting from out of town. I do think the experience of coming here is unique because you can watch them make the drinks and they use a funnel to pour in the boba into the bottles. It definitely beats watching the boba cup sealer machine (although that has its fun at times). And who can resist the allure of having your own Plentea bottle to keep? Important Tidbits: Make sure to get a plastic cap for your bottle. They're at the counter. But they aren't 100% seal proof so don't put your full trust in it. There's a Yelp check-in offer for 15% off two drinks so check-in on Yelp. Credit card minimum is $10. No bathroom but there is upstairs seating. There was a long line when I was drinking my 25% sugar oolong milk tea, and saw two people in line who already had bottles. Who knows. Anyways, the tea is good, but nothing to write home about. As someone described to me, Plentea is for hipsters. Definitely a pricey option as compared to many other Tea shops. But for the price, you do get a great reuseable glass container with a cap so think of it as paying forward from a "green" perspective. The teas are tasty, visually appealing. The place has 2 levels which is awesome since the front of the store to the register is basically 10 feet. The black milk tea was kind of strong, but that's just personal preference. I was really excited to try this place because the pictures were so cute but I was pretty underwhelmed :/ I went on a nice day and surprisingly there weren't that many people in front of us. The interior was decorated in that cute, minimalist Insta-friendly style that's really popular lately. I'm definitely a fan of the design because I'm a sucker for wood accents and plants! The guy who made our drinks was pretty friendly and recommended a drink for my friend who was undecided on what to get so that was pretty sweet. Drinks came out relatively quickly and I can't deny the aesthetic appeal of the bottles. Unfortunately my milk tea tasted kinda watered down and not that memorable. My friend and I ordered bubble milk teas with less sugar and ice. Maybe the milk tea would've been better with full sugar but it was just okay. Our other friend's drink was better. Plentea is another popular Boba Milk Tea place in FiDi. Unlike the other places, it is open late, which has got me here a couple of times. The menu here is simple consisting of Classic Milk Teas, Special Milk Teas, Cold Brewed Teas, Ice Blended Drinks and Hot Teas. For milk you have options for both dairy (Clover whole and half-and-half) and non-dairy (Silk Soy and Califia Almond). For toppings you have boba, aloe, grass jelly, lychee jelly, chia seeds and egg pudding (50c each). Sweetness can be customized to your liking (100%, 50%, 25% or 0%). It seems to cross all boxes as far as options are concerned. Over a period of time I've tried most of their Classic and Special Milk teas. One thing that distinguishes Plentea from other boba tea places is their insistence on using glass bottles instead of plastic cups, supposedly to help the environment. In today age when you can get fully compostable cups and straws, insisting on using glass bottles for protecting the environment is just wrong. Let's call it what it is, a marketing ploy that positions Plentea differently from their competitors. Goes without saying I am not a fan of these glass bottles as they feel heavy and makes holding the drink painful. I would prefer if they give you a choice of getting a glass bottle rather than palming them off on everyone. Anyway let's move on to the drinks. The short and simple review would be that their drinks are good not great. It took a little trial and error to get to my customization right here. I started by getting my drinks 50% sweet, but found that for my taste I needed their regular sweetness (but that would be a little sweet for most people). Then I replaced whole milk with half-and-half as whole milk tended to undermine the tea taste and lastly getting less ice prevented the teas from becoming diluted with time. From the drinks that I've tried, I like their Jasmine Green tea and Nutella Milk Tea. The Jasmine tea has a strong Jasmine flavor that shines through even at 100% sweetness. What I didn't like was the Matcha Latte. It was pretty weak and needed a lot more Matcha powder to give it the bitter sweet finish. Most of the teas are just under the $5 mark which with toppings will put you about $6 a cup give or take, which is in line with what you would pay at the fancy Boba Guys but 10% more than what you would pay at i-Tea just a block down. In my pecking order for Boba tree places in FiDi (or at-least the ones that I've been to) Plentea lies in the middle of i-Tea and Boba Guys, with i-Tea on top and Boba Guys at the bottom. During normal hours I prefer to go to i-Tea and end up coming to Plentea only for a late night boba fix. read more

Back in highschool I used to be so hyped up for the glass bottle, however, I've come to terms that it isn't enough of a pull factor for overall average drinks. I came back recently to try the Watermelon slushy drink. I was already alarmed when it came out light light pink, what's more is that it tasted like they put one piece of watermelon, and the rest sugar water. Sweetness warning... If you normally get 50% sweet anywhere else.. you probably want to go less sweet here. Other than the sweetness, I can't complain about the Brown Sugar Ice Milk with pudding & boba. If they can find a way to have a lid where the straw fits through it, it would be great! I put the bottle in the freezer because my ice milk wasn't so icey when I got home. I found that boba freezes very quickly! But even frozen, the boba wasn't hard and old tasting. They're pretty smart. The main reason I went here, and I think others would also agree, is that they serve their drinks in adorable glass milk jugs. Who could resist? It's not for the service, that's for sure. They're not rude or anything, just not friendly either. Usually, I feel the employees would ask if I had questions or made suggestions. Not bad! I was skeptical about boba in the Financial District, but this is actually a super cute place to grab a quick bite (or snack) and either take it to-go or hang out in the upstairs loft area, which has a decent amount of seating. Plus... free WiFi! I ordered the Peach Green Tea ($4.95) with Aloe, which was pretty good. I feel like they didn't put $0.50 worth of aloe in my drink. Drinks come in a super cute milk bottle so I guess that's what the higher tea price goes towards. That and it's worth bringing back the bottle for 10% off each subsequent drink. Still pretty pricey though, but it's FiDi so what did you expect? My friend and I also ordered the Strawberry Belgian Waffle ($6.95) which is topped with fresh strawberries, chocolate syrup, almonds, and powdered sugar, alongside a dollop of whipped cream. They took forever to be made, so by the time it got to us, the waffles were cold. The baristas are very delicate with the toppings, though! What intricate decorative abilities. The waffles were overcooked and crunchy, but I suppose some people like it that way. Anyways, this was a good snack choice, and I'm glad we ordered it. It's great that there's finally a decent boba place near where I work!!! I never understood why there weren't good places in downtown. I've been here twice and had two different drinks - first was a mango green tea, and second time I had papaya milk. I would say their milk tea is decent but nothing great. Doesn't deserve the $4.50 or $4.95 they charge you. BUT THEIR FRUIT MILKS. I could go on all day about them! And I don't even like milk normally! The papaya milk was extremely tasty and fresh. Not only were there still bits of papaya floating around in the drink, but they also used really yummy ripe papaya for maximum deliciousness!! ^_^ Had some friends who tried the strawberry milk, and while I didn't try any, they swore by it and called it their new favorite drink. As far as the space itself goes, there are two floors - the first floor and half of a second floor above with some more cozy seating. Both times I was there (once at 3 pm on Wed and once at 11:30 am on a Thu), there weren't too people sitting inside, so it was pretty easy for my friends and I to find a spot to sit and take a nice little break from work. I got the regular black milk tea and got my husband the matcha latte. Both could be customized for sweetness level which is always a plus to me because I don't like my milk tea to be too sweet. Each topping is an additional $1 and you just don't get enough of the add ons. Their fruit teas looked pretty good. I saw a lot of people walking out with them after I ordered but I probably won't be back again after this time so won't get to try it. Squished in between Onigilly and some other restaurant on Kearny is Plentea, home of deliciously milky drinks and chewy boba balls. I've come a long way from a childhood spent drinking powdery 99 Ranch smoothies and mushy tapioca. While I still enjoy my super cheap Banh Mi Che Cali BOGO milk teas with the flavorless balls, I'd like to think I'm finally at a point in my life where I know what good boba tastes like. At nearly 3 p.m. on a Friday, the line for Plentea stretched past Onigilly. The poor guys managing the counter at Onigilly must get excited when someone approaches the entrance just to lean against their shop windows, waiting for a shot at Plentea. It's 15% off of 2 drinks if you check in on Yelp, and in an attempt to be environmentally conscious, 10% off if you bring your glass bottle back. We got a sea salt creama oolong and strawberry tea, both with tapioca, and were pretty pleased. While waiting in the cramped shop (hey folks, there's lofted seating upstairs!), I watched them make the strawberry tea and leave it sitting on the prep counter for five minutes while my oolong was ready. With four people making drinks at the same station, it gets busy back there. It would likely be more efficient if they had someone also calling out order numbers, as some people are reeeeeally slow at picking up orders. It's weird that they used bottled waters to make their teas that didn't look like they were glass, but I invite them to prove me wrong on that. We can at least taste the difference in quality, so er...taste buds 1, recycling bins 0? I didn't see a place to recycle the bottles either, so I think it'd be more in line with their mission and other glass-enthusiasts like T.epiphany if there was an option to give the bottles back. read more

It had more food options and more decor on the walls. Today, it's a little bit more streamlined with simpler decor, with a main theme of white. The drink list got smaller and even the signature drink bottles changed a little with the caps being a hard cap that you can screw on versus a flimsy plastic cap. However, the drinks are just as mediocre. The tea flavor from the drinks aren't that prominent and the flavor itself like they advertise like mango aren't that prominent either. The fruit teas are all premade so the fruit can't subbed out for a different tea. This time I got the sea salt creama oolong and it wasn't that memorable. The tea flavor was missing and the creama felt flat. And for the price, I expect so much more. Overall, there is far better boba places to get drinks like boba guys a few blocks away. It's worth trying just for the bottle, but it's nothing special. Tips - The fruit tea is better tasting than the normal milk teas. The Thai tea is also premade but you can't really go wrong with thai tea. Pros - you get to keep the bottle and the bottle now comes with a cap that seals the bottle better. As stated in other reviews be prepared to shell out a few bucks for parking if you're not walking or using public transportation. Dropped in with the girlfriend after eating lunch a few doors down at Murraci's (man that place is good). I order the Caramel Iced milk with boba and she ordered the Strawberry Black tea with boba least sweet. I enjoyed my Caramel iced milk and the nice flavor and chewyness of the boba. The drink did not melt super fast and the cool glasses they give you are worth it too. They had about 5 people working at once, which was weird because they were all just standing around and only one guy made our drinks. read more
