    seafood gumbo
    Helen P.

I'll be honest, my medium-rare steak was overcooked and somehow dry, although still pink in the center. My husband's French toast was made with wheat bread, which was unexpected and definitely not the preference. It made the toast fall flat, though he said it was still tasty and made well. Just wished it wasn't wheat. It's typical diner food. Nothing fancy, but solid. Maybe we didn't love-love our dishes that day, but it wasn't all bad. I enjoyed the seafood gumbo and mashed potatoes, and I loved the gravy. We had a wonderful experience overall. Service was excellent from the moment we walked in. Everyone we spoke to was warm and gracious. Our server was wonderful! We loved their homemade salad dressings, so she made a way for us to buy some to take home. We could easily be regulars here!

Go to Please-U!!! I was visiting NO and staying in the Lower Garden District and found this no-frills diner that perfectly personifies New Orleans. I ordered a "half" Shrimp Po' Boy and a cup of seafood gumbo. Very generous portions. The Po Boy was packed with fried shrimp, the bread slathered with mayo and had lettuce, tomato and pickles. The shrimp to bread (partially hollowed out) ratio was perfect and the shrimp perfectly fried and not greasy. The gumbo was traditional and flavorful. My waitress was great and the woman owner was very nice. Great spot.

    Chicken & Waffles

Chicken and waffles! Now that I have your attention... If you are as serious about this dish as I am, yet health aware enough not to eat it often, then choose wisely. Hands-down, this is the absolute best, anywhere. And I've had plenty. This little breakfast/lunch hole in the wall Greek restaurant on St. Charles Av. has been our go to for 10 years. When we come, it's gonna be chicken and waffles. If you happen to come back the next day, go with the Greek omelette. All fresh made from scratch by the Greek couple, and owners, for 43 years! The portions and quality are a deal at $14 (so tip well!). And they certainly live up to the name Please-U-Restaurant.

The Please U restaurant is an old-school diner that simply focuses on feeding locals hassle free breakfast and lunch. This is not fine dining. The service is not excellent and you seat yourself and even pay at the counter when you leave. But if you want a decent breakfast or lunch and do not want to deal with the ever present overpriced tourist traps this is where you go.

Overall good experience at this establishment! Very old timey diner that makes you feel right at home. The food is pretty good and filling, with an extremely diverse menu that takes lots of time to comb through. The Gumbo was alright, but the muffaletta and poboys were great. Would definitely recommend this place if you're looking for a chill spot and some good food!

Looking for an Authintic PO Boy! I had the shrimp. That's all I can speak of. Nice 12 inch soft bread with crisp outside. Mayo, Lettuce and Toematoes were fresh. Nice little Lunch and breakfast place. This was down the street from our Hotel. For 12.95 14.30 with Taxes. Took it to go for lunch but ate half of it. Shrimp was fresh. You should try it.

Mediocrity at its finest, and I mean this literally: a fine example of "aight." My socks remain firmly embracing my feet and don't have any lambasting pending for my review. I stopped in seeking breakfast close to my hostel and ordered the venerable chicken and waffles. This is [like] one of those diner-like places that have been around long enough that regulars' orders are known before they sit, or so says the vibe. The chicken was nicely cooked and seasoned, good quality, run-of-the-mill fried chicken, kind of like you can get at IHOP. That's not meant to be an insult; IHOP fried chicken is quite good! The waffle did leave a teeny bit to be desired. It lacked that incredible contrast between the textures of the outside and in.

The Camellia grill is something you should experience at least once but we probably wouldn't go back often because the food wasn't spectacular, but it was good, but the wait wasn't worth our experience for us and it's kind of cramped in there. I kept getting elbowed and I was elbowing the person next to me. We did meet some regulars they say they always come in for the pie. I think it's better for lunch, they have breakfasts, and they give large portions. If you're looking for the classic local diner experience, this is it. The prices were really good. The place has classic Diner decor with history of the area and the diner, which was fun to look at. I want to say that I had the hamburger steak and fries with gravy and mashed potatoes and green beans, it's definitely comfort food, I was in a happy place so I say if you want to be in a happy place and go back to when you were a kid when grandma or mom cooked you a meal this is what you get here.

This past week we visited and we could both tell right away things were different. The inside of the restaurant was filthy and I mean filthy. You could see the floor under the bar and in the kitchen hadn't been cleaned in months. The fryers hadn't been cleaned in a very long time. Everything just looked dirty and like no effort is put into cleaning and maintenance. We decided to eat anyway which was a mistake. We love their burgers that are cooked and steamed old school. We both ordered one. My wife ordered hers with bacon, which they charge over 3 bucks for. We both ordered our burger dressed with all the fixings. When my wife's burger came out it had no bacon and no fixings. I told the waiter and he said he would handled it. He never did as he started doing other orders. My burger had no flavor and it looked like the person that made it didn't care , which goes along with the restaurant cleanness. One thing that really turned us off was the was other guest were treated by staff. The "cook" was completely pissed off and had a horrible attitude. A group came in looking for a table and there wasn't room. He yelled at them that there wasn't room. They stood in the entrance area for a few moments and then he yelled at them that they needed to get out of the restaurant and wait outside. He told them this isn't a restroom so don't wait in line. The attitude and distain in his voice was overwhelming. A few minutes later a couple came in and found 2 seats at the bar. They decided to order food to go and was talking to the waiter. One of the 2 people ordering was standing behind the empty bar seat while they ordered. The cook yelled at this person that they needed to sit down. Both customers were stunned. The waiter told the cook they were making an order to go and the cook could be heard muttering under his breath. This little guy was nothing but attitude and seemed extremely pissed off the there. Maybe instead of being the restaurant traffic cop and total smart ass he should concentrate on getting orders straight since ours was screwed up and never fixed. Whatever charm this place had is gone along with the any effort to keep it up to clean standards.

I was in New Orleans for the 2026 Jazz and Heritage Festival, so my mornings were my own. I travel alone and don't always look for reservations when planning on a meal in this city. Streetcar Café is a perfect choice for what I was looking for: ample breakfast choices, a full bar, and excellent service by Andres. I ordered two poached eggs ($3.50), a single pancake ($4.50), and hash brown potatoes ($4). Totally reasonable pricing, and excellent meals, topped with the Always Summer (Malibu rum, Triple sec, OJ, Pineapple juice, Grenadine, $13). The place filled up pretty quickly after I arrived at around 10 a.m. Andres did an outstanding job of keeping track of my order, and served up the menu items piping hot. Couldn't finish it all, but it was a best-choice for brunch this morning.
