Listen, 5 stars for this trip is going to sound so bad, but just wait... Ill get there. I find this place on Yelp, Hubby and I were in town on vacation for a weekend to get away before I was to have a pretty big operation - so we just upped & ran away one weekend. It coincidentally happened to be prime leaf peeping weekend (which isnt why we went away) but it was Sunday am, we wanted to eat somewhere that wasnt Dunks, so I found this place on Yelp and it looked super cute, so we drove 30*ish minutes to get here. We arrive & Im thinking Oh No, this isnt going to be great, we get in line and are 3rd in line. Well 15 mins has passed and no one has even acknowledged the people in front of us or anyone... Now to set the scene for anyone who hasnt been here, its like walking into a time warp home. Its not like a restaurant, this is literally a home. There is stuff EVERYWHERE, its like a yard sale, dust, books, no 2 tables, place settings, mugs, plates or anything is the same on all the tables, and the woman who was working god bless her had to be easily 75... She was running the food, cleaning & clearing the tables and this place was packed. We ended up talking to the family in front of us in line (who were regulars and in their 90s) and they said they come every weekend, so the woman who works there pulls them out of line and seats them ahead of the people in front of them (they were ok with that) but they had told us how you can buy anything in the place, if you liked your table setting you can buy it. There was so much old rustic decor, the place is friggin adorable, but you can buy it all! I just continued to walk around the place & just investigate all the things. Well 45 mins later we were finally seated and magically a few more staff people arrived to help her out, the whole experience from waiting to be seated, to ordering to actually getting the food and check was easily 2+ hours. The food I expected to then be just meh, but it wasnt IT WAS GOOD, Craig the owner chef was literally in the kitchen ALONE... and lives up stairs too, but you could see him hustling around and just handling all of it. Salad at breakfast at first to me seemed so off, but OMG was it good. All the food was just fresh and really good! This was one of those super memorable experiences, the hubby wouldnt let me buy anything and that was ok, but if we are ever back in the area we are definitely stopping in again! I had the special Apple Pancakes, that had an apple compote mixed in with the batter, and included some sliced banana and berry compote as well. The pancakes had a slightly crispy exterior which added a wonderful inexpected texture. The food and the coffee were both very good. The service was not real good, however. They seem to be lacking well trained or experienced wait staff, as things like not bringing butter with the pancakes, not refilling coffee, and not coming for payment of the check in a timely manner after bringing the check. I found this place years ago, but they were closing when me and my friends and I arrived that day, so it's been on my list to go back. I think I did stop through in passing one day, but it was closed. The best way to get in is to make a reservation by emailing them. The backyard is magical, vert eclectic, and many creative things added for ambiance. Which includes a tree house, a fireplace, antiques, and many plants. Inside feels homey and warm. Many antiques, furniture, and collectibles are for sale throughout the roomy dining area. We didn't know to email for reservations until after our delicious meal, that I wasn't sure at first we were going to be able to get. It worked out great they fitted us in. There were three menu options to choose from for the night for the entrees, which was a pot pie, pork, or turkey nicoise salad. I asked for the pork, and my friend had the turkey salad. It came with a minestrone soup, then lemonade, our entree which we could have has seconds (only restaurant I've ever been offered this) but we were full and still had dessert coming which was strawberry shortcake. What an enjoyable meal, great service, and a lovely, comfortable place. Food was locally forged as much as it could be with fresh greens on our plates and berries and veggies for our dishes. After dinner, we went outside to the garden to relax by the fire and enjoy that before heading out home. The owner, Craig, was a very welcoming host, which makes you wanna go back. My plan is to go back again for brunch and, of course, for dinner, but I will make sure I make those reservations. read more

Our family has gone to Pleasant and Main multiple times, most recently for Thanksgiving dinner. The service is always very welcoming and attentive. Our meal had great flavor and nice sized portions. The overall environment of the restaurant is unlike any other place I've ever been. It feels like you're having a meal in an antique collector's living room. What a magical breakfast my husband and I had! We arrived and were the only ones there. A gentleman asked us to wait a minute to check if they were serving and luckily they were. We were seated at a bright and sunny window table, decorated with fresh flowers and old books. Very hygge! I had a very cute macchiato and the open faced croissant sandwich with Gruyère and local eggs. It came with fried potatoes and a fresh green salad. Delicious and enough for me to take a to-go box for later. My husband had the French toast with berries and a shot glass of maple syrup. He ate every bite and we were then told that 2nd helpings are free! How sweet. My hubby was full but I've never heard that offer before at any other restaurant I've been to. A group of people from a visual merchandising class came through and the staff were very accommodating to move things around that were hard to see for them. In an amazing surprise one of the gentlemen from the class asked if he could try the baby grand piano. I thought he'd play around a little but we were treated to a true musician! We got breakfast, with a show for free. They also have a lovely side garden that is very eclectic. I can't wait to return. (Wouldn't recommend to bring young kids. Now recently, you can not book a reservation. I left them a note at the desk inside, asking them for a dinner reservation. And no one called me ! In the past, I have liked the food and ambiance. What a hidden gem in the area! Food was ordered to go but the quality was still great. My wife ordered an open egg sandwich on a croissant and my sister in law ordered a farmers omelet. I had ordered the French toast with a homemade berry compote. I was greeted by a table of beautifully fresh baked goods the moment I stepped in and the gentleman who greeted me ( I'm assuming the owner) completed my order by giving me complimentary muffins and croissants into my order as well. What an amazing experience. My wife and I took my Dad to the National Shrine of Divine Mercy. We were looking for someplace unique for breakfast and found Pleasant and Main in Housatonic, about a 12 minute drive from downtown Stockbridge, which was highly rated on Yelp, and for good reason! We got there 15 minutes before opening and the owner himself, Craig Bero, was sitting out front. He ushered us in and served us coffee even though he was the only one there at the time. My wife had the spinach gruyere quiche and my Dad and I ordered the locally harvested mushroom omelette. Each plate came with roasted potatoes and a generous, fresh picked salad from Craig's garden. We all split a plate of apple pancakes made with in-season, local apples with sliced banana, blueberries and raspberry jam on the side. In addition, Craig also brought us a blueberry muffin, a cheese filled croissant and a chocolate filled crepe for free. The breakfast was amazing and the ambiance, a very eclectic building packed full of New England Americana, including a birch covered canoe suspended from the ceiling. To make things even more amazing Mr. Bero asked us why we were in the area. We told him that we were visiting the National Shrine of Divine Mercy. He then told us that he was asked to open up a cafe on the grounds and he was supposed to be there already. Sure enough, after our morning activities at the Shrine, we made out way down to the cafe for minestrone soup, a golden raisin scone and a blueberry muffin. Craig was in the back filling the orders himself! The soup was of course fantastic. Later in the afternoon when we were passing by the cafe again headed up for Mass at the outdoor shrine, Craig flagged us down and gave us three pieces of boysenberry cake. The previous reviews stated seconds were available if wanted, and I can very that, but the portions were sufficient to make that unnecessary. We were so full from breakfast that all we could handle was the minestrone soup for lunch! A gentleman who ordered the homemade beef stew was raving about how good it was and that he could hardly finish it, but he did. Craig's story is also amazing. He lost his former restaurant in New York City because of the terror attacks on 911. If you are in the Stockbridge area you do yourself a disservice if you don't at least grab one meal at Pleasant and Main or at cafe at the National Shrine of Divine Mercy. Going out for Breakfast/Brunch on any day of the week usually doesn't require a great deal of studying. You just go to the best local Restaurant/Diner in the surrounding area and you settle in for an average menu with pretty much average or perhaps, if you're lucky, above average food. Today was different. Very different. My wife and I weren't in a hurry and so we took a little ride to Housatonic. (We live in Lenox). A few years ago or a bit more we stopped for breakfast/Brunch in Pleasant and Main. We thought that the food then was much better than the restaurants in our area, but they were just starting up and didn't have enough help and so the service was very slow. That was then and we decided to give Pleasant and Main another go round. Wow. What a difference. We are sooooo glad that we did. The food, as we knew it then, is still unequaled anywhere in the Berkshires. We would be so sure to say that we would put this food up against any breakfast/Brunch restaurant almost anywhere. That's how delicious it is. The menu is somewhat small, but has all that anyone could ask for. A few egg dishes. A few croissant dishes. A few crepe dishes, both savory and sweet. Muffins, scones and several coffee drinks using very fine quality coffee. My wife ordered the sweet crepes with a mixed berry compote and Nutella. She raved. I ordered the split croissant filled with sliced ham, melted Gruyere, and perfectly cooked scrambled eggs. The dish came with beautifully cooked hash brown potatoes and a dressed salad with fresh beets and delicious tomato quarters. My plate was full. Copious would be a proper way to describe my plate. I've had copious servings of breakfast/brunch many times, but not with the quality and taste of this dish. Quite possibly the very best breakfast/brunch I've had since eating at "Breakfast at Brennans" in NOLA fifteen years ago, and for significantly more dollars. The pricing here is very reasonable. This breakfast/brunch at Pleasant and Main has been the very best breakfast/brunch that my wife and I have had in many, many years. It is not a fluke, either, because we clearly remember our breakfast/brunch from years ago in this very same restaurant. The service now is inviting, friendly and warm. The owner aims to please and is very accommodating. We are overjoyed to have eaten at Pleasant and Main this morning and will return again in a few days. read more

The Berkshires has a lot of delicious, quality places to enjoy food. But sometimes we want low-key, simple, home-style food. We love antiquing and thrifting, and off-the-beaten-path destinations. When we came across this place and saw they served dinner, we made a reservation. We heard they had closed during the pandemic, but as of July 2022, they were open for dinner. The dinner menu for the evening was simple: a choice of fish fry, chicken pot pie, or a chef's salad. We got the pot pie and the salad. A potato corn chowder was served as a first course. Soup was delicious. It came with a roll, which wasn't special, but the chowder was fresh and flavorful. The main dishes were huge. It was like having dinner at grandma's and being given seconds without asking. Maybe it was because we went in the middle of the week and the weekend crowd wasn't there. We had just completed a five mile hike up Mt Everett and we were famished. We each ate the whole plate of food. The salad was like having thanksgiving leftovers over greens: a smorgasbord. Every bite was delicious. It had berries, steak, chicken, buffalo mozzarella, radishes, carrots, cauliflower, broccoli... and more. After dinner we browsed the store and bought a cookbook. read more

This cafe is in an old general store in Housatonic MA. A little out of the way but near Great Barrington and Stockbridge. It is very Kitschy with piles of old dishes, books, ornaments and other yard sale type items. There is indoor and outdoor seating. It is an unexpected find and there are some nice folks working there. We were surprised to find crepes on the menu as well as standard breakfast fare. Four of us came for breakfast on a Sunday morning. It was not very crowded given that it was the off-season (February). Food and service was excellent. Something I did not appreciate until arriving was that it is not only a cafe with good food, but also a country store with a lot of great things for sale. Would highly recommend. Pleasant & Main is very persnickety requiring reservations (even for breakfast; even when it doesn't seem that busy). I've had breakfast twice and reservations for an additional 2 for special occasion dinners in June and again in September. Each time I arrived to find the restaurant closed. This makes it a 50% chance you can eat, resulting in a 2.5 of 5 rating for food and service, which at best is slow and surly. Food (when available) 5 Ambiance 5 Service 3 Note: Regarding reservations, P&M has no answering machine and the establishmentarian told me that he does not check his web site for reservations. When the restaurant is allegedly open, no one answers the phone. For the first special event dinner (12 ppl from out of town for a graduation dinner), I made the reservation in person. The waitress didn't know if there was a reservation book. Craig added the reservation to a calendar and had me write all the details on a note pad. He said he had a possible catering event that night and would contact me if he could not accommodate our party. I received no call, text nor email. read more

Inside is unique unto itself, and the small garden patio out back is a delightful oasis if the weather cooperates. We got brunch. Eggs Benedict for me and a breakfast crepe for her. Eggs were cooked to perfection and the hollandaise sauce is the real deal. Home fries. Crunchy on the outside and puffy interiors. Everything is just a bit different than the norm , and I mean that as a compliment. Even the handful of salad on the plate had beets in it and a unique dressing. When we first arrived, we were told to pick a table, which we did, but there was a communication problem. The server did not see us come in, and the person who told us to seat ourselves forgot to tell her. It was several minutes before she arrived, and apologized profusely. Frankly, we were having a leisurely conversation and we didn't mind at all. Regardless, when our meal was finished as a way to further apologize, they presented us with a couple of crepes with lemon sauce. Absolutely delicious. The restaurant had all kinds of antiques and collectibles around the place and outside of the restaurant they had a fire set up where one could roast marshmallows. My grandson had a blast roasting them. I think he would have preferred to stay out there. The food was really good. I had the buttermilk pancakes and the gf had the open face croissant with ham, eggs and cheese. The buttermilk pancakes were so fluffy and were served with fruit and an amazing maple syrup to top it off. The one issue I had was their coffee was only lukewarm. We should have really read the recent reviews before showing up. We stood to be seated with our kid to be seated. The woman came out of the kitchen a few times completely ignored us, didn't even say a hi or wait or anything at all. Two / three tables were seated and eating; one of them was also quite shocked at their behavior. We waited for about 20 mins, it was completely bizarre. Anyway, we obviously finally left. So I took to yelp and found pleasant and main and am glad I did. Started off witha cappuccino I ordered the special..and open face ham and cheese melt on a croissant with delicious dill sauce. Ot came with wonderfully seasoned homefries, a fantastically fresh side salad with a light vinegarete, and some raspberries, blackberries, and bananas. I can't say enough good things about this spot. You'll have to go and experience it for yourself, it's truly magical and a must see when visiting the area. I love it here; I'm pretty sure a little part of my heart was left behind today. Long story short: I'm pretty sure I visited Snow White's cottage and had breakfast. The food: fresh and amazing. Felt like a loved one cooked for me. Places that cook with love are rare, but this place is one of them. We were greeted with warm muffins baked that morning upon arrival. We came for breakfast, which was outrageous; I can't imagine what lunch and dinner are like! My husband is a coffee person and he couldn't say enough about how good their coffee was, and that they brew it 'the right way.' Something about an espresso machine being used also... not sure, that's out of my realm! The place: I thought I knew what I was in for after I had peaked online, but photos don't do it justice- at all. Give yourself time to really get a good look around inside. The garden: truly heaven on earth. For a garden junkie like myself, the surroundings are something I've only ever seen in a magazine and dreamed of visiting. I could sit outside at this spot literally all day. And I'm not even kidding. The breeze, the smell from the outdoor fireplace, the outdoor antiques and plants... it's just like heaven. The staff: genuine, down to earth people. They just don't get any nicer. The owner is a total DOLL and he is just simply the best- one of the coolest people I've ever met. I'll start off with the positive. This one of the cutest places I think I've ever eaten at. It was so full of whimsy and thing to look at. However...the food is some of the worst I've ever eaten. I ordered the burger, and oh how I wish I'd taken a picture. There was no Brioche bun - it was two pieces of white toast. The burger was literally a patty and nothing else. The back courtyard is eclectic and would be fun to sit out there for a meal with fun friends. The food is solid and it's like a price fixed menu. We were each served a cup of turkey noodle soup and toasted bread and butter very quickly before we even ordered and a slice of delicious chocolate cake was included for dessert. The entrees menu was limited, but I guess one dish would appeal to most. My beef stew and mashed potatoes was good. No complaints. Everyone else got a salmon nicoise salad, which looked so so. I'm not a salad as an entree kind of guy. The server was new, but she was great and extremely attentive. The menu changes regularly so perhaps better options another evening. From the outside you would not think this place would be a restaurant. Really does look like an antique store. We walked and and waited to be seated. Please was pretty empty at the time. We sat and was brought some water. Place really did have a lot of antiques inside. There seems to be a lot of dust and cobwebs everywhere however I guess this is the look they were going for. As we were trying to order the waiter did not really seem to know his menu very well. None of the specials were offered to us. Other items were told and offered to others that came in the restaurant to eat after us. There was fresh apple pie that was given and offered to two other families that were in the Resturant. As for the food, The eggs Benedict that I ordered was actually pretty good, it had good flavor and the ham that they used under it was actually very tasty. Instead of your traditional muffin that it goes on it was actually put on a croissant. The homemade pancakes that I ordered was only OK nothing special a bit dry. The garden omelette was fine again nothing special just an omelette. We also had the open face sausage egg and cheese which was pretty decent the ham that they used was very good. As a side order we had sausage links which was very overcooked and dry. At the end I was trying to get the attention of the waiter or waitress to bring me the check so we can get going however that took some effort. After asking for the check the check never arrived so I decided to get up and go to the front counter and pay. For some weird reason that took over 10 minutes to do. You HAVE TO go to this cafe!!! My family attended a wedding not far from this spot and thank goodness we discovered it! We sat outside in late September and the weather was beautiful. This is such an incredibly charming place!! Greg, the owner, is the most hospitable, gracious and friendly fella. Ask him about his story and what brought him to this quaint little town. He greeted us with freshly baked scones, muffins and croissants with homemade raspberry jam! There were 7 of us so we had a lot of food! My eggs benedict was delicious and served on a toasted croissant. My boys got an egg, cheese and ham crepe and a dark chocolate and maple syrup crepe that were amazing! The pancakes, open faced croissant sandwich and cappuccinos were all sooooo gooood!! Anything you order will be GREAT! I can't say enough about this place and Greg! Everything about this picturesque town is worth a stop or stay. I wish we had longer to go out on the river and do some fishing or just a boat ride. It's right out of a storybook!
