I usually only Yelp restaurant but everyone here was super nice and friendly. It was my first time visiting and I was very impressed with their service. Kept checking in making sure that Everyone was being taken care of. Tomas was the main person that helped me did a quick check up and made me feel very comfortable Their equipment is up to date and the doctor was very knowledgeable and explained everything to me throughly. Tomas then took me to pick out my glasses and if you know me...im super indecisive and picky but he was able to make this process so much easier and I quickly fell in love with my frames. DO NOT go to Plaza Optical!!!!! This was my second time there so I gave them a second shot to see if the experience was any different, there is always a wait. My appt was at 1 I didn't get seen until 2 and then wanted to charge me almost $300 for glasses when in the past at other optical places it was $100 or less for better frames and lenses. Run. I saw someone's new glasses break at the counter. They basically are a money making machine. They wouldn't just give me a regular optical exam and kind of pushed me for the optical scan. That scan was preformed by the secretary and the bright light felt like it was blinding, so I told her I refused to check the other eye. I researche things after, and found out a physical exam is more thorough than a scan. read more

This has been THE neighborhood eye-doctor location for my entire life. Dr Richard Bohn used to be inside the old TSS store. Probably half of Oceanside received their first eye exam from him. Plaza Optical has been a cornerstone of Oceanside for years now. There is full optician services, as well as consults about lasik eye correction surgery. Sunglasses, glasses, contacts, and eye exams including everything from basic to problem eye conditions. The selection of frames is outstanding. The personalized patient services and customer service is wonderful. There is a second location as well in Merrick, NY. They take all sorts of insurance coverage. The best part? everything felt very rush i was just there to get a check up my insurance allows it once so i figured id take advantage and make sure everything was still the same as when i had my eyes checked like 2 years ago he was flipping the thing back and forth not even giving me time to look and insisted i needed a prescription even when it was blurry when he put it on my face he was very pushy while i was waiting to be seen he was telling the ladies at the desk to make sure they call the people with the big balances during my appointment when he was flashing different lenses in front of my face a lady came in and ask for a discount for one of there very good clients and he basically told her no way ! he doesn't need a deal money hungry doesn't care about your eyes just wants to make money read more

I go there everytime with my own script and to just fill it with new frames. They are pretty expensive there, no matter if they're designer frames or not. However , I will say that the styles and frames are always unique, stylish, great quality and I've always found what I'm looking for or better. So far, I've bought about 12 pairs, caah ! I used him in 2003 mostly due to his location and his taking my plan. I am a NYS employee I do expect to pay some money but it is usualy under $100. He not only charged me the $300 for a single pair of glasses he gave me the wrong perscription. When I complained he told me I was wrong. At the conclusion we have agreed to disagree hekept the money, I no longer use my benifit and I get to give him the finger evey time I go to Trader Joes. I would not reccomend either him nor his buisiness and would highly reccomend ANYONE else but him. read more

Plaza Optical has by far exceeded my expectations! After 2 horrible experiences with Cohen's Fashion Optical (Rockville Centre and Hicksville location), I was very nervous to go to a new location. Marisol was so helpful and attentive. I got there at 5:45 pm, and even though they close at 6pm she never rushed me out and was so helpful! She contacted my insurance and got back to me in a timely fashion maintaining communication with me! She was able to give me exactly what my insurance covers without charging me anything extra or trying to scam me! I am so thrilled to have ordered my glasses through Plaza Optical and would highly recommend them! The staff there is great!!! read more

I went there for both my eye glasses and contacts. I thought Marisol was nice, helped me with my glasses on my first visit and told me if I wanted to go back for getting my lenses coated as transitional sunglasses, it would only be an additional $100. I thought that was a great price but when I went back for my contact exam a month later, their story changed and it would now cost $200 for transitional coating to my previously bought eye glasses. I had my initial contact lense exam and fitting by Dr. Tahir. I must say she's very good as a salesperson but you can't trust her (I happen to be in sales myself). She wanted me to buy special pills because of my eye issues and then she gave me the phone number and brochure of a company (who I assume pays her for customers she brings to them). Needless to say, my ophthalmologist thought it was a scam especially when I told him the cost of purchasing those pills. Dr.Tahir knew I was on a budget so she sends me home with cheap contact lenses (which I thought were for me to try out before ordering). I went back 2 days later to let her know I was not pleased with the contacts. The lady at the front desk tells me the yearly supply is in. I said "what? I didn't tell Dr. Tahir to order anything yet". I was furious. She fitted me with other lenses, also those did not agree with me. I made a third trip and insisted on seeing Dr. Bohn. He knew exactly what I needed and I got stuck paying extra for a bi-focal exam and I was pushed into buying the contacts from Plaza Optical even though I asked them to match the price I saw online which was $60 cheaper for a 6 month supply. I could not believe how frustrated I was leaving the shop because not only did I make multiple trips, I got conned into paying more. His staff was not accommodating so I have to agree with the other review regarding Plaza Optical, they are expensive and I felt they were money hungry. I'm certainly not recommending them to my friends. I don't like to be scammed into paying more money and I didn't like how I was presented with different pricing from the staff for transitional lenses for my previously bought eye glasses. I actually took the same prescription from Dr Bohn and got a new pair of transitional lenses (and a new frame) at Costco which offers a great selection of designer frames...and Costco is VERY affordable. The staff at Costco was nice, patient, I was not pressured into anything and they met my budget. Thanks Costco...you'll be getting my next reorder for contact lenses. read more

Paid $90 for my prescription glasses and it took 4 weeks for the glasses to be ready for pick up. Didn't even receive a phone call about my glasses! I had to call myself 2 times to find out if they were ready to pick up. I strongly advise to go to a better optical than this one! read more

I was recommended this location, I made my appointment and had a great experience. The staff was friendly and extremely helpful. Filled out paperwork, did the pre-exam, was seen by the doctor and picked out frames. I was in and out in under an hour. So I usually go to the Merrick office where the help and service is spectacular. However I was in the neighborhood and need some emergency service. When I walked in the the office was crowded and very busy. Before long I was greeted with smile and was told that someone will come to help me in a minute or two. Shorter than that I was being helped by two of the ladies. One fixing my broken glasses like new and the other helping me look at frames while I waited. I was sure my frame could not be fixed. Both ladies assured me that it could be fixed. Much too my surprise they did fixed them and saved me the cost of a new pair. When I asked how much for the repair I was told absolutely no charge and to come in anytime I may need help. This to me is old fashion quality help and care. I highly recommend this office and their other one in Merrick, Access Optical. These are the people too see! read more

My wife made an appointment with Plaza in Febuary 2015. We have only been going there for 2 years but we always have to wait a unreasonable amount of time. This visit was the straw that broke the camels back. My wife made an appointment at 2:30 and got there early. She waited about 25 minutes until the doctor was free. Then to her dismay the doctor took a customer ahead of her claiming this customer missed a previous appointment and he would not be long. My wife questioned why she would make an appointment if it was not taken seriously. They did not care what so ever. These people assuming clients will cancelso they overbook appointments. Even though clients have busy lives - they do not care whatsoever. You will wait less at your doctor or dentist or oil change facility. Waiting could be excused yet they were combative with my wife at that was it!! There are many opticians and there is no need to be treated like this in Nassau County. Good Luck read more
