Spring Hill is quickly becoming another "home away from home" for me as my sister lives here now. Ergo, she knows whenever I come visit, we gotta hit up a restaurant to further give creedance to the status I was given here. Mexican food (of any kind) is one of my favs, but I must stress that over the years, many Mexican restaurants have been very good in general that a very good Mexican restaurant is now the new average. Mexican restaurants need to do little things here and there to stand out, thus earning the rare four out of five-star review. So did Plaza Mexico, the first Mexican restaurant I've eaten at here in Spring Hill, FL, stand out to be past the average? I can happily say yes, Plaza Mexico has the unique trait of standing out, thus earning a rare four-star review. Plaza Mexico (which I will shorthand simply to PM for the remainder of the review) is located on Forest Oaks Blvd., but not that far east from Commercial Way. The business is not hard to spot out as it utilizes the decor and color scheme often used for Mexican restaurants. I might even say such colors and decor may be American characterizations of Mexican culture, too. The aforementioned could be said about the interior, but I must stress, which was presented in a very good way. The lights were these beautifully blown glass orbs of multiple colors. The wall art was these paintings that had reliefs with lighting. Finally, the table furniture wasn't quite grandoise. I will say it: presentation goes a long way. The food was delicious, but just like the decor, it had a bit of flamboyance that made it look more appealing. As a family, we had the Nachos House Special, Three Amigos, Molcajete, and chimichanga. We did share bits and pieces from other's plates, but it was so delicious. The price of food is probably on the higher side of the norm, meaning high 20s to low 40s depending on what you get. However, as mentioned earlier, the food was very delicious, and it looked flamboyant, too. On a sidenote, the restrooms were clean and stocked, and my family and I showed up a little before lunhime, so maybe that is why there was a very short wait until we were seated and recieved service. Overall, I will give Plaza Mexico four out of five stars. I will definitely return and if they are consistent, it will be my honor to grant them their fifth star for cosnsistecy read more

I had their takeout before and was very impressed Dining in- don't order the taco salad bland If you order the sangria it comes in an impressively large goblet (Make sure you have a designated driver, it was potent! I should be ashamed to say that my friend and I visit Plaza Mexico about 2x a week for margarita flights, but I'm not! They are such a fun treat. They don't quite equal the size of a traditional margarita when combined so we don't need an Uber to get home. There are a mix of flavors with either tajin, salt, or sugar rims, so there's a good variety. We also choose a meal from their enormous menu. Dirty laminated menus, taco beef was pureed beef baby food (!) not ground beef, cold rice & beans, margaritas with little tequila (expensive), and worst part--waiter and hostess were both rude! Overall, very expensive dining mistake. We should have left right away with dirty menus and rude staff. If considering, don't do it. read more

WOW! First visit to Plaza Mexico ever, and lucky to be taken to their new location in Spring Hill. Arrive on a Sunday afternoon at 11:55am, they open at noon. I'm with a party of six and we were promptly seated after they opened. The menu is huge, 7-8 pages. Two baskets of chips and two bowls of salsa were brought to the table. Good flavor to the salsa, and the chips were hot/fresh. After checking out Yelp photos I knew I was going to try the ACCP, check out my photo or others. It was delicious, and mean Delicious with a capital D. My girlfriend went with her standard Chimichanga Combo, shredded chicken deep fried and covered with nacho cheese, which she said was great. Service wise, things were great and attentive. They did forget to bring me tortillas for the ACCP but they were quickly provided when I asked about them. Top our meal off with a Spicy Cucumber Margarita and a Jalapeno Margarita and we will be back, hopefully for another a great lunch. And hopefully the level of service, quality of food remains after the first couple months. Spring Hill is lucky to have this restaurant option. read more

Wow! I can't believe this came up as #1. First the good. The server and staff were great. The ambiance was impressive but the chairs were tacky with the restaurant name on every one. When we sat down in our booth the seats were too low for the tables. I'm 6' and we both felt like we needed a booster. How do you mess up chips and salsa? The chips were stale and I've had better salsa from a jar. I asked about getting a draft and was told it was broken... for several months! I had tacos. The pastor and chorizo were good but the carnitas were fair. The meat was too chunky and dry. My jaw got a workout chewing. For what they charge, $20+ for a burrito and $18 for three tacos we were expecting better. We won't be back. read more

First off, the food is excellent! Starting with fresh guacamole made right at your table customized to your flavor. The service is timely, professional & friendly. The portions are ample & tasty, enough to fill up the hungriest hombres. The best part is the wide ranging menu with many flavorful dishes to choose from! The restaurant has a very pleasant atmosphere, allowing for easy conversation and ample elbow room. The drinks are all very good. I dare anyone(not driving) to order the Large Pina Colada. ¡Ay, Carumba¡ The Mariachi band that plays on weekend evenings is very entertaining, not "brassy," and not overbearing, just as enjoyable as the entire dining experience! Okay. Been years in the making. So everyone pretty much writes great reviews on the place. Not me. No problem with a 30min wait on Sunday at 5pm. Sat and read the lengthy interesting menu. Got seated to our dismay in the bar area with ultra high steps (2-12" steps) to get my nearly 80 wife up there. No way she could get into the high chairs with no place to put your feet and I'm 5-11" legs dangled. With encouragement from a fellow lady customer she was able to be seated. They were so crowded I wasn't waiting another hour for a real table. I would make sure to know we are getting a table in the big room or outside. No one asked. Poor training. Then the Bum's Rush begins amidst a very loud crowd for 5:30 on a Sunday. They have no coffee. So wife got water. I had a beer and a water. Nice big basket of hot chips and decent mild dip appeared. I ordered some Cheese Nacho's as an appetizer. Within less than 10 minutes a server showed up with both our meals. A Taco salad and a combo Fahita steaming hot. About 5 or 10 minutes a guy showed up with a plate of hot cheese nachos. I told him to just wrap it up as a to go as we all ready had our suppers. Which he did no problem. Actually my wife preferred the Cheese Nachos to her Chicken Taco Salad. They bury all the meat and goodies way down at the bottom and she has memory issues so looked like a bowl of lettuce. Took it home. They were trying to push us out the door to make room for the big drink buyers and to our shagrin they had a very loud Mariachi Band tuning up in the bar. Oh lord. My wife was holding her ears as it was like someone stepping on a cats tail. Fortunately they only played one tune and went to another area. Decent Mariachi but for outdoors only not a noisy bar. I only had time to drink 1/2 a Corona with 1/2 my large double Fahitas chicken and steak. Was overcooked. NIce sides to put on it. Only give me 3 wraps. Needed at least one or two more. Tab was presented 1/2 way thru the meal. As were the styrofoam and paper containers. What? When the Mariachi band kicked in and my wife was holding her ears a girl tried to take away my plate of toppings. Stop. I quickly finished my meal. As my wife was getting really agitated. Rarified air at that elevation I suppose? The price was fair but still high for the size of the portions. Neither of us was overly impressed with the food. Wife did like their Cheese Nachos. Can't touch our normal Rojo Coyote which is closed Sundays. Which is why we tried this place. One would have sworn this was Cinco de Mayo based on the size and attire of the crowd especially as we were leaving at 6:15 people were standing outside having a drink in hand. Everyone was pleasant especially the customers. One lady with 2 young kids left when told an hour wait. Don't know if they take reservations? Would be a good idea. Definitely a party place just like it used to be as a sports bar. I think it's quickly become a happy Mexican Party Bistro. If you know to avoid the Bums Rush by not ordering anything until you are ready to eat. AND to avoid their bar stool tables at all costs unless really limber. If I were to go again I would sit outside at a real table for sure. But not in the summer. Not sure why I would ever go back???? Not impressed. $54 with the tip will take us most anywhere in Hernando County. read more

We decided to try this place for the first time this weekend, and we were very happy that we did! The restaurant was very nice inside with a beautiful bar, very nice tables and beautiful decor. We were seated right away. The waitress was very nice and prompt. The food was delicious!!! I got the burrito chipotle, which was quite spicy with chicken, rice, corn, onion and peppers. My boyfriend got the burrito cancun with shrimp and grilled onion and peppers with a white cheese sauce on top. He let me try his, and I have to admit his was my favorite. The food was very flavorful. I also ordered a Horchata to drink, which was excellent! We will definitely be going back here again to try some of their other dishes. Newish restaurant. We figured we would let the hype die down a bit before we try them. Once we arrived we entered and waited. We weren't greeted until we were the next people to be seated. The location is pretty, very nicely decorated and kept clean. The booths are nice and big, very comfortable. Our server was ok, it was not overly friendly service and I am not sure if because there was a big party seated nearby, but the actual service was very delayed (we had to wait for extra drinks and ketchup, etc.). The food was very good. Actually, I thought my personal meal was one of the best I have had since moving here. Our only complaint was the table side guacamole. We paid the extra for table side because our kids enjoy the little show. A waitress came over and asked how we like our guacamole and then left. Next thing we know we have guacamole at our table. We didn't get the actual table side guacamole and probably could have saved ourselves $5 to just get regular guacamole. We were extremely disappointed with this. Even though we weren't 100% happy we decided to try desserts. They were ok, the fried ice cream to me was not great but my kids enjoyed it, so there wasn't horrible.
