This place is such a gem! My family thoroughly enjoyed a Father's Day dinner here and though they don't take reservations, we were able to be seated quickly. They were steadily busy throughout the evening so a wait is possible if you were to arrive at peak time. The setting is casual and in an old house- hence the name. If you ask to be seated in the back room, you'll have a view of the lake. The servers were very friendly and efficient. Food and drinks were prompt! We shared the onion loaf to start and had a variety of dishes around the table from steak, lobster tails, grouper, scallops, and the multitude of accompaniments. Everything was cooked beautifully! Especially the scallops. That was probably my favorite since they melted like butter in the mouth. I also enjoyed the hush puppies that were served with every main dish. Bonus points for the fact that many of the dressings and sauces are made in house. Since it was an occasion, we had some chocolate cake for dessert which didn't disappoint. The cake was rich and fudgy. My dad is a regular so I am definitely sold. The man is a critic and if he is impressed, I know something must be good! Somewhere I read that if you're a fan of Harborside, you'll love Harrys.... Anyone who has read my reviews will know I am NOT a fan of Harborside, except for the gorgeous view, so I kept that fact to myself and reserved judgement for after the meal. Ashley, our server, was super knowledgeable, very attentive and wanted us to enjoy our meal the same way she would want to enjoy her own. She laughed at our jokes and made sure that we left fat and satisfied! lol We ordered the grilled hog fish (fresh catch) with stuffed shrimp and the Chicken Pinot Grigio. Yep, I chose chicken at a local seafood place, but thats just me. ‍ Either way, everything was as great as Ashley promised! My only complaint is the noise level. It could have been just because it was Halloween and the dining room was crowded, so I wont judge. We did miss out on the lake view because it was late and dark when we arrived, so I cannot compare it to the only redeeming quality at Harborside. We sat at the bar and planned to move to the back with its view of the lake. But as the place filled, we chose to stay where we were. Good choice. I hope we pass this way again. Has been a while, but we're back. The entrance is fresh and inviting. Nicely updated restrooms AND a hand-washing station is also available. Love that! Service was congenial and efficient. Super nice! The food is as good as we remembered. Sweet Tea in a giant Mason jar was fresh and crisp. Most folks won't need a refill. ;-) We can happily recommend the Tossed Salad with Blue Cheese Or Ranch dressing. Served cold and fresh - very nice. The Fried Shrimp and Oysters are still favorites. Nice, light batter and prepared well. Definitely consider these options! The Fried Catfish was 2 big filets. Wish the batter was a little lighter, but very good. We enjoyed the tartar sauce, too. Went on a rainy Tuesday night around 5:40 and it was packed. Had to wait about 40 minutes for seating but worth the wait. A big draw for retirees - so go for a later dinner If you don't want to wait as long. We tried the gator and pork sausage appetizer plus pimiento cheese and crackers. I came here in November 2023 and I ordered Margate broiled in lemon butter, Gator Bites, and French Onion Soup. I also had cheesy grits and french fries as my sides. On a Saturday 1PM, seating was instant even though it was packed. I originally wanted to try the Cobia fish but it was unavailable. All of their available items were on the board. 8 minutes after ordering I received complimentary bread and butter. It was warm, chewy, and satisfying. The French Onion soup was yummy too. It has gooey cheese and was not too hot. The soup also looks deeper than it is. As a tourist, I was most excited for the gator bites. It had a sour and salty taste, like a strange chicken. It came with a sauce that felt like a variant of thousand island. It honestly reminded me of orange chicken, but way more chewy. I personally enjoyed the gator bites a lot. The cheesy grits were a miss. It was too salty for me and I struggled to finish it. The fish was pretty average. It remind me of catfish, which is unfortunately my least favorite fish. I personally wasn't a fan of the flavor but glad that I got to try something new. The texture was good though. We tried to call and make a reservation at Harry's because we were driving two hours to meet my wife's nephew and his wife were also driving two hours at Harry's cause it was exactly midpoint between Sarasota where we stay in Florida and their home in Florida so we wanted to be sure that we get in and get a table. Well as it worked out my wife's nephew Richard got there early and got us a table because they refused to take a reservation and the food was very good. I had a small salad and we shared an onion loaf for the table. My wife had their French onion soup. Richard had a fillet and my wife and I shared a piece of fish that was wonderful. We had it blackened. It came with mixed veggies and rice. Everything was good. I won't say that it was great, but everything was good however, when I finished the meal and I asked for a cup of coffee, the waitress said they had no coffee which I didn't understand and she tried to explain to me that their coffee maker left or something and I still didn't get it if it's a restaurant and it's an operation what does it take to go out and get a coffee maker anyway if they had a cup of coffee I would've given them five stars. read more

I visited Harry's Old Place in Winter Haven tonight for the very first time. It is a very cute and welcoming place. I was greeted and seated right away. My waitress, Taylor was so friendly and knowledgeable. I ordered a filet and asked it to be topped with crab. When it came out it was not as expected, undercooked- I asked for medium rare but it was very rare and the topping was cold. I hesitated to say anything but Taylor noticed and immediately asked what she could do to make it right. She ended up recommending mahi with a garlic sauce topping which was delicious! The GM Cody came over and was just as kind. I will for sure be back and appreciate them for not making me feel bad (or worse) for returning the first dish. read more

The Grouper Special for 42.99 arrived and it was the most unappetizing looking plate every served to me . very small portion , the size of your palm , the tail end of the grouper , very thin , way overcooked , hard to separate with your fork , four tiny shrimp also overcooked , bay scallops maybe two , and no crab in sight . it was awful . I had it removed and didnt reorder . I left hungry and very disappointed. I had two glasses of wine and the manager just said sorry , he should have offered to comp one of my two glasses of 6 dollar wine for the wait and not eating . Saw the 4.4 on the reviews and thought what the heck I'll give it try because it was open till 8 pm. It was absolutely amazing and well above my expectations on all aspects. Service and food were simply outstanding. Not a 4.4 for sure, is definitely a 5.0 plus. I Had the Covina with their heavenly sauce and my friend had the swordfish with heavenly sauce. Yelp did not lead me astray! Found this place based on high reviews when I was in the area and had a craving for some fresh seafood and was tired of all the chains around me. Had a brief wait on a Wednesday night around 6pm but not bad. Was very thankful they had a kids menu as my kids love seafood and I was nervous this spot may not be kid friendly at first glance. This establishment gets crowded for lunch very quickly. We were seated in the back room, which was very cold. People were even asking to be moved to the front room. You are given a dinner menu and told that there are lunch specials. Although, the waitress forgot to tell us that there were lunch specials. We overheard her telling another table that she did not have time to write them on the chalkboard. The waitress took orders from the first four tables that were seated. Three of the tables got their orders quickly. I, unfortunately, did not order a lunch special and our order came a lot later. They also ran out of fries by that time. I ordered the Fish Reuben sandwich. It was bland and mushy. Halfway through eating it, the waitress set the fries at the corner of the table. Other people seem to be enjoying the lunch special.
