We didn't want the fun to end, so one last night cap was in order. Parking is a bit difficult, but we managed to snag a spot. There is a big bar in the center if the room and a smaller bar out on the patio. There are also two pool tables and a stage for various events. My friends ordered beer and I kept it simple with a vodka soda. They don't serve food but the bartender said outside eats are welcomed. The DJ was bouncing and the staff & patrons were friendly and welcoming. I like the vibe here and would come back. They host nightly events such as: RuPaul's Drag Race Viewing Party on Fridays. $5 Domestic drafts on Sundays, drink specials and free pool on Mondays, $6 Wells on Wednesday and various contests monthly. I understand ID policies. I had lost my ID and only had photos of my passport and identification, so I asked politely if there was any way I could come in. I also mentioned I wasn't drinking just there for a friends birthday. What followed was honestly one of the most uncomfortable interactions I've ever had at a business. Instead of giving a simple yes or no, the security guard began loudly berating me for several minutes in front of a full line of people. He repeatedly said things like "what kind of person doesn't bring their ID" over and over again, questioned my intelligence, and spoke about me to my friend instead of addressing me directly. I stayed calm and kept saying it's completely fine if the answer is no - I just needed an answer. But he continued escalating, repeating himself, and making the situation more and more uncomfortable. At one point, people in line were visibly confused and reacting to what was happening. I ended up leaving crying, shaken and upset, which is not something I've ever experienced from simply asking a question at the door of a bar. I have never been so confused and shaken up this is such concerning behavior. Again, I fully respect policies. A simple "no, sorry" would have been completely fine. This review is only about the way the situation was handled. It felt unnecessarily aggressive and honestly unstable, and it created a very uncomfortable environment not just for me, but for everyone standing there. I hope management is aware of how their staff is representing the business, because this kind of interaction leaves a lasting impression.

Bar area is along one side but getting a drink when it's packed can be a challenge. They always have a decent amount of bartenders on deck so that does help but with people coming from all ends trying to order, it can get a bit tricky. Dj is along the side where the dance floor is. As for our visit, Friday which around 9 was still early. The good thing about that, getting a drink was a cinch. Majority of the people were either on the patio or the front lounge. It was pretty full in the front which I think it was a group that were all together. We were there long enough for a drink give or take half an hour the most and by then, the place was pretty empty. I feel like most people tends to come around 10:30 or 11:00. Not sure if they have an entrance fee or not but certain night when they have events, the place is very lively. Then I believe you would need to purchase tickets for that. Parking situation is a major bitch as street parking is pretty sparse. Neighborhood parking is very limited as the locals know that if they move their car, say goodbye to your parking spot. So if you know the area, parking is tricky. It's a cool little bar that I used to go to when I lived down here many years ago which used to be called The Brit. Still a fun vibe.

I ordered the guacamole bacon cheeseburger with fries and my guest had the Philly Cheesesteak. My burger was cooked perfectly and looked great. The fries were fair, nothing to write home about. My guest loved his Philly Cheesesteak and it brought memories of the last time he ordered one more than a decade earlier. It's only fair that I mention the conduct of one of thr employees who appears to be a host. There was an ethnic couple (probably middle eastern) siting at the table next to us, dining and enjoying their meal, when this employee approached them and singled them out because of their ethnicity. He fawned all over them, loudly, apparently trying to be welcoming, all the while addressing them as "you people" and "we are open to people like you dropping in for a gold time." While he clearly wanted to be nice, he came off as condescending and racists and was very annoying to my guest and me and people at another table who muttered "what an idiot." On the positive sign the middle eastern couple didn't appear to be annoyed but, still, that's not the way first time guests should be addressed. We dropped in on the drag show after lunch but all seats were taken so we decided not to stand in the corner and watch. Getting smart, especially a good seat means arriving about an hour before the show. Today's show began at 1:30 pm. There are nearby parking lots, pricy and neighborhood parking if one can tolerate a moderate walk. The Abbey is an ice place to go, especially on Friday and Saturday nights. Dining is pretty good and their menu is not big. But they still have a nice variety of dishes.

Unauthorized Tip Added After I Closed My Tab…read more I came here for my friend's birthday and ordered a $15 drink. Unfortunately, the bartender was rude and dismissive, so I chose not to leave a tip. I closed my tab immediately, signed the receipt, left the tip line blank, and kept both copies of the receipt. My Cash App card was originally charged $15 that night, but the following day the transaction changed to $16. I did not authorize an additional $1 tip or charge. It's only a dollar, but that isn't the point. Customers should be able to trust that the amount they authorize on a receipt is the amount they are actually charged. Between the bartender's attitude and the unexplained additional charge, this was a very disappointing experience. I've kept my receipts and will be disputing the difference if it isn't corrected.

This bar Rocks ! On Thursday they have Go Go Boys and Girls; Friday - They have two shows 10:15 and Midnight Saturday - Two Shows only $5 ____ I saw Ana Gabriel, Shakira, Cher, and some Banda Stars. Plenty of free parking along La Brea at the meters after 8:00 PM The seating is first come first seated - Can't beat it for $5 - You get two wonderful International Drag dance and Impersonators in Spanish. If you wanted to experience local Los Angeles flavor, go after you have a bite at Pinks. Went to the Plaza to bring in the New Year! What a fun place this is. The is a very reasonable cover charge, ( it was only $10) and on the weekend its $5. The shows are all done in Spanish with a recorded music tract in the background. There is a full bar with table service and seating is around a central dance floor. I went with a group of friends and we were very welcomed by the Latin community there. Best of all was the show. I've seen shows in Vegas and this place comes pretty close. This place is definitely a MUST. So next time you have nothing to do on the weekend come to the plaza. read more

There wasn't a ton of seating either, although again, with how crowded it was for Pride, that may have made the space feel even smaller than it normally does. Overall, I'm still really glad this place exists and I would absolutely come back. There are so few lesbian bars around, and I definitely want to support spaces like this and see them stick around. I'd love to come back on a regular weekend when it's less hectic and get a better feel for the place.

I briefly toured their live show venue, and it's a very good sized stage, so I imagine it's a fun place to see a band play. This is a bar and music club, so no food, but they WERE giving out plenty of Halloween candy, and everyone was absolutely grabbing it to pair with their drinks. I hadn't been here in a while, but will start to track their calendar and find time to drop in for some music.

Well it did just that. First off, it was quite mellow when we walked in at the bar area. There were a few people while we were ordering. Bartenders was quite sweet. Remembered us from the last time which was nice. To our surprise, it happened to be Bingo that afternoon. Clearly none of us knew anything about it but hey, let's play bingo. The best part, it was free. Everything was supplied for you. Grab your games and dabber and go to town. The hostess with the mostess was amazing. She made the game more interesting. Maybe half an hour to it, the place picked up a lot. Pretty much people kept joining in with the games. Our group did win some rounds which was pretty cool. Prizes were a bit all over the place. A table which you choose what you want. Things rang from pillows, candies, sweets, to some intimate pieces...Lol.... It was hilarious. There was a few intermission for a little performance from the hostess. Lip sync for your life with some tips in hand. It was a fun afternoon not expecting anything. I think there's something that happens every now and then. Not sure what the schedule is like but we happened to stop by on a fun afternoon. Cheap drinks, free bingo and friendly crowd. What more can you ask for. Definitely will be back.

I understand ID policies. I had lost my ID and only had photos of my passport and identification, so I asked politely if there was any way I could come in. I also mentioned I wasn't drinking just there for a friends birthday. What followed was honestly one of the most uncomfortable interactions I've ever had at a business. Instead of giving a simple yes or no, the security guard began loudly berating me for several minutes in front of a full line of people. He repeatedly said things like "what kind of person doesn't bring their ID" over and over again, questioned my intelligence, and spoke about me to my friend instead of addressing me directly. I stayed calm and kept saying it's completely fine if the answer is no - I just needed an answer. But he continued escalating, repeating himself, and making the situation more and more uncomfortable. At one point, people in line were visibly confused and reacting to what was happening. I ended up leaving crying, shaken and upset, which is not something I've ever experienced from simply asking a question at the door of a bar. I have never been so confused and shaken up this is such concerning behavior. Again, I fully respect policies. A simple "no, sorry" would have been completely fine. This review is only about the way the situation was handled. It felt unnecessarily aggressive and honestly unstable, and it created a very uncomfortable environment not just for me, but for everyone standing there. I hope management is aware of how their staff is representing the business, because this kind of interaction leaves a lasting impression.

As per my original review, I granted my group messed up bringing in a drink. We granted you grace as well when we decided we would order drinks when your foot traffic slowed down. When you came to slam your hands at our table and yelled at us to leave said table for not having an open tab, you ALWAYS had the option of taking an order right then and there. You CHOSE to immediately walk away to which I had to go myself and try to open a tab. If you took me ordering a soda as me making fun of you, that was a YOU problem. I do not know you, this was my FIRST time here, we were celebrating a friend's birthday and we signed up for karaoke. YOU could have had a bad day which we granted but this whole interaction has been very telling. NOTE that the ball was always on this establishment's court to make the situation BETTER. All you had to do was say you're sorry for your behavior and even with my initial review, I STILL gave you grace. I hope more people find this review helpful and note how my experience has been diminished by their own people but never addressed the situation started by Taylor Phillips. Strong drinks, dim lights, and the best new artists!…read more Its been almost 20 years since I first went to a Hotel Cafe, before they had the second stage (which is a great room), when they still had a parking structure in back. It was all a foreign concept to me. Booking three or four or five acts in one night, charging you admission only once based on which act you came in for and most of the time if you came to the first you could stay through the 5th, or as most did, they came to see who they intended to see and maybe saw some of the act that was after and then went out to Hollywood to get some eats with their friends. Hotel Cafe is going away in 2026, but it is not gone, they will just be moving from their iconic Hollywood location, that small room that barely held 150, a small stage in the corner, a few low tables and a bar in the back to a new location in Los Angeles. It is the place where the singer-songwriter movement of the mid-2000s to the mid-2010s hard launched a revival. It's like what the Troubadour was to the Laurel Canyon singers in the 1970s. Sara Bareilles, Ingrid Michaelson, Greg Laswell, Priscilla Ahn, Meiko, Cary Brothers and many others. Adele even played here before her first album released in the US. I saw Sara Bareilles here once and she left everyone in tears after her song and bolted out the back door. I went to the front of the house and her family were blowing out the last of the signed copies her tour posters for only $10 since it was the last show of her tour. I bought a few. I have come here to see a friend like Big Phony sing, and then exit into the back room/lobby and see Hollywood stars entering to see their friend who would be singing next. It's that kind of local spot. The sound was always great and the drinks were well crafted and strong. I recently saw Priscilla Ahn sing here again and it brought back memories of the first time I saw her here, when she only had a 5 track EP CD. When she sang Dream again this year, it felt like everything had come full circle, since that first CD released 20 years ago. I cannot wait to see what the new building looks like, but a huge part of me, like for everyone else that has been here, will miss that little room in the back of the alley, where young dreamers became singers, where singers became stars.

Glad we got there when they opened so we could snag seats. There were only about 25 seats with standing room behind. There is a bar. It was very dark inside. And the guitars were mixed TOO LOUD! But the concert was fabulous and ran for 3 hours.

Even the security guards are cool AF. Not like a lot of other venues where security acts like they are cops lol Not here they get you through the metal detectors pat down and look in purses to insure you don't have anything harmful. (As fast as they can) Inside is a large dance floor, two bars, and a few tables for those who don't want to stand. The bars have amazing bartenders who are super chill. The restrooms are very well maintained and have the sweetest older lady working. (Make sure yall show her some love) They also have a huge outside patio that is a smoking area. I've never seen any food here only drinks, beer, shots, and water for sale. Overall Echoplex is an awesome venue for concerts.
