I've been having my birthday party here at Plaza for over 10 years (it's my longest standing LA tradition) and it's ALWAYS amazing. Plaza is definitely a whole night, drag experience (shows at 10pm and midnight). It's a great mixed crowd, lots of older Hispanic couples and young people and groups. The queens put on a really fun show and once both shows are over, and you're probably completely smashed from the cheap/STRONG drinks, you can dance the rest of the night! Pink Dog is also two doors down, which makes for a perfect way to end the night! Also the manager always has a little cake and balloons for our tables which I've always thought was such a sweet/considerate detail! This should be a 5-star review due to the supporting staff, such as the bartenders, waitress, DJ, and security staff. Steve has also been very nice and a good person. For over 2 decades, me and my wife (or just me) have been going on and off primarily because of the ambience, good vibes, great drinks, and lovely Spanish (cumbias, zapateado, etc.) music, and also old school English and hip-hop. As a longtime customer, I have never complaint nor have got to know the performers. However, lately there has been some concerns that may be shared by others. For the past few months, great performers have been let go for unknown reasons. In my opinion, and with love and respect to all these people, Sonia (Jenny Rivera's impersonator), Willie (Ramon Ayala, MS, and others), Amazona (Shakira, Gloria Trevi, and many others), and most recently La Mas Draga Leandra (multi-talented impersonator), are no longer in this lovely, couple friendly, multi-cultural, social, and lgtbq salon bar. With so much potential, and from a customer's point of view, please listen to your customers. All these professional performers are missed. I do not know how the choreography director may be, but definitely they are hurting and depriving customers from a great show. It would have been nice if Plaza would have a show by Dany, Amazona, Leandra, and Paola, along with the support of Sonia and Willy. Note: there is one person not mentioned, since from most of our interactions, she is not social with customers compared to the other performers who take time to interact with their fans. Regardless of these comments, this is a good place to go. I highly recommend continuing to go and support the performers, who on every show, they do their best to provide entertainment, thus while enjoying their impersonation of great singers, both Spanish and English, and while enjoying a drink, socializing with others, and in a nice peaceful space. Incredible time this past Saturday Night! LOVE IT HERE!!! I am looking for some clarification if anyone knows: I am having a hard time (since there appears not to be an official Plaza Dance Hall website) knowing which pages listing their nights open are right and which are wrong so we can go back! The plazas google page says open fri and Sat only but a page like this (https://restaurantguru.com/Plaza-Los-Angeles) lists other open nights. I know they do third Thursdays but I want to know if they really are open on just Fri and Sat permanently as of August 2023?. A hidden gem! This place has been open forever and still only has 35 Yelp reviews. Excellent. I hope it never gets "too popular" but does well enough to survive and stay alive. One night, years ago, I was on the sidewalk, waiting in line for a hotdog at Pink's. I noticed some people up the street waiting to get into a bar or club. I didn't know of any spot up there. After I ate, I walked up and looked inside, there was a door guy there and he said "it's $10." I saw a woman on a stage in the club shaking her stuff in a skimpy outfit. "Ooh, a burlesque or strip club" I thought. I paid and entered. I went over to the bar and got a beer and then sat down at a table and I was soon joined by a bunch of guys and I realized they had been up dancing or something and I had sat at their spot. I apologized and started to get up and they said "no, no, no... stay! How are you?" After talking with them a bit I realized that they were mostly, if not all, women dressed as men. It also dawned on me that the performers were men dressed as women. Everyone there was happy and friendly. The performers did a great job and the audience loved the show. Bartenders were great and drink prices were low. I don't make it by the Plaza often but every time I do go, I have a great time. read more

I woke up feeling like a million bucks after going to this spot for the first time in my life. How is that!?!? I was invited to Plaza for a friends birthday. I'm not really into "american drag" because i find it too catty .. but i had NO IDEA that this was a Latinx drag show so that changed everything. The performances were amazing. Everyone in the place was there for one reason only... to dance, sing and have a great time. It was like a group karaoke/dance party... One woman came on stage with one of the most elaborate peacock outfits ... omg so many feathers... it must have been a FORTUNE and and i admire the physical strength it must've taken to prop it up!! SO impressive. Women approached me to tell me I was beautiful and i was asked to dance multiple times. As i was walking out, one of the women who told me i was beautiful said she couldnt see me leave without a hug and honestly, that made me feel so great. This place bumped my self esteem up a few notches, FOR SURE. A woman outside was selling homemade mexican pastries and i bought a box, to which i shared many with patrons inside... they were delicious and she was hilarious. 5 stars. I'll be back. read more

So buckle your seatbelts Yelp family. Entered to enjoy a wonderful night with friends from out of town, but instead was given the run around by an unprofessional elder gentleman (who said his name was Steven -- but who knows). He told us we would get refunded if we didn't enjoy the energy. My group wasn't in the mood for this vibe tonight, so after walking through the curtain and returning to the front desk 30 seconds later, we decided we wanted to leave. Here's where things get interesting. We were told we couldn't get a refund. This was after being told we would receive one. He was all over the place about pricing and the rules, constantly contradicting himself while being rude to my friends and myself. Allow me to reiterate that we were not inside the nightclub longer than 30 seconds and, though we were told we would receive a refund, we did not. We were then asked to leave. I did not raise my voice and I maintained a collected behavior during the entire experience. I will never return to this dive bar, especially after being pushed out the way I was. The employee and/or manager working at your front desk needs to learn proper etiquette when dealing with customers; especially new ones. It's a shame because environments like this I typically enjoy. My friends and I are well connected, but this will not be on my list for future recommendations. That is all. So, I went to Plaza last night. Outside, it didn't say it was being used as a venue for a party, so when my friends and I showed up, we had the uncomfortable experience of feeling like we were crashing a stranger's space. Seriously, why didn't they shut the venue down for the party and then open at 10? We asked the security guard twice what the deal was, and he explained that the party would soon be ending. Fine. We waited for about 20 minutes and the situation didn't improve, so my friends and I went to ask for a refund of our entrance fee because we didn't have the experience we paid for. The venue was catering to a predominantly white audience instead of the typical queer latino audience. In other words, the vibe felt off. The security guard, who was in charge of everything apparently, refused to refund us. We went back and forth for about ten minutes and he even told me that I need to "calm down" when I was speaking to him in a moderate tone. Seriously, would it have been that hard to let three people get their hard-earned money back? Especially since Sunday entrance fee is $10/person. We gave in and went back to try to enjoy the drag show. The drinks we ordered weren't the best unfortunately as they had a bitter edge, perhaps because of the quality of the liquor. The drag show had mostly English music instead of typical Juan Gabriel/Paquita songs. Super disappointing. The night was a bust and I'm still frustrated by the obnoxious experience I had with the security guy. That was horrible customer service. read more

Amazing! One of the reasons I adore living in LA Is because of all the fantastically diverse experiences one can partake in. So when a friend invited me to a drag show at Plaza, there was no way I was going to pass up the opportunity. She raved to me what a fun show it was, how it was only $5 on the weekends, how the drinks were cheap and good, and how I absolutely needed to go with her. And to make sure I couldn't decline this incredible invitation, she told me that Pink's Hotdogs was a few doors down. Done! This place lived up to the hype. The bartender and waiters are all so nice and polite. The drinks were tasty. And the show? Incredible! These lovely leggy ladies with their gorgeous gowns, flowing locks, and over the top makeup put on quite the show! Most of the songs were in Spanish but I really appreciated the passion and drama I could hear in the music. We stayed for two shows and during the break, we danced on their good sized dance floor. It was wayyy too fun. We left around 1 am and grabbed a Pink's hot dog. I couldn't ask for a more perfect evening...gobbling down a mushroom/Swiss/mayo hot dog + 2 live drag shows while sipping on a lovely strawberry margarita:). If you're adventurous, this is a must-do! If you're not adventurous, you may not dig this. I personally love expanding my horizons and there's no better place to do that but in LA. This was loads of fun, great for a girls night out, a date night with the spouse, or hanging out with a good friend. They even do birthday parties there. The good man who was cashiering at the front told me this. If you ever see him, take note of his old time cash register. It is really cool. I will definitely be back! read more

This place is a lot of fun and the service is great! I reserved a table for 4 people for a friend's birthday. The cover is $5 per person which is not bad at all! We were greeted by the head waiter and seated right away at our table. We ordered 4 cocktails and the total was only $20! When they dropped off our drinks they also gave us free chips! The drag show was awesome, it was a mix of pop and Spanish music. A couple of my faves were Cher and Whitney Houston! We went on a Saturday night, it took awhile for the place to get full but by the second drag show it was all filled up. There is dancing between drag shows they play more pop music during the break. The energy here is awesome, very good, chill vibes. I recommend going at least once! read more

In NYC latino bars are Spanish Caribbean flavor; Puerto Rican, Domincan, Cuban, bachata, salsa, merengue, reggaeton... LA? Central & South American flavor, lots of Mexican too. It's completely different and all soooooo fun. You MUST have their spicy margaritas... Best I've ever had. Bartenders are quick, amazing, fun, hospitable, loving, caring... Not to mar the amazing accomplishment of my 500th review, but I really had to write #501 about La Plaza. I'd actually driven by a few times on weekend nights and wondered what the place was, but never entered until last night ,when my friends invited me to come along to the drag show! La Plaza is a mostly Latino clientele, and everyone there is super DUPER nice. Waitstaff is very friendly, drinks are relatively cheap. They have a full bar, but the drinks of choice seem to be buckets full of Coronas, which come with a dish FULL of fresh cut limes. I was knackered from K-town rice wine the night before and wasn't drinking, and when I asked for a diet coke and the server said he'd have to check if they HAD any, I knew I loved the place, as it added to the charm. The drag show was good, although very different from any I'd been to. It was much more serious, less campy. We were visited by bolywood, "Diana Ross", and many more. I've been told that sometimes "Rihanna" and "Lady Gaga" make appearances, too. What might be the best thing about the club, however, is the eclectic group of folks who are there. Straight folks, gay folks, intersex and cross-dressed, it's an EXTREMELY comfortable place, and there's not even a *hint* of machismo about it (unless you count the dancing lesbians). This place is great, the dance floor is fun, and I can't wait to go back some day when I'm not tuckered out from too much partying the night before followed by an 11-hour work day. Nowadays this Plaza serves as an open avenue of love for every shape, size, and sex. Primarily for Latino lesbian lovers, $5 cover provides anybody the opportunity to awe at two transvestite performances; a la Milli Vanilli. First show is 10:15, but the midnight show left me stunned because if that sex-curved performer was a man, maybe I am gay. The cheap drinks blurred, (or shall I say cleared) my x-ray vision past the clothes. After each performance, the crowd moves onto the dance floor to imitate the jiggling of such natural curves. Word of caution, there is no solitude for tinyphobic here. The men's bathroom serves as melting pot of sexes; as I watered the trough, men/women stared. . . It's a joint located on La Brea just a few storefronts down from that everlasting eatery of mediocre wieners, Pink's. 5 bucks'll get you in in. 5 bucks that will allow, you, the unsuspecting experience of your current night. As soon as you walk in and just around the corner from where you pay for your ticket and check your coat, awaits one large club/ bar filled with latinos and latinas, straight and gay, transgendered or not, drinking, dancing, talking and cavorting. Cheap drinks, shows of dancing and tables of eager show watchers. An experience to say the least when you can have a cheap drink as well as take in a show of the transgendered variety. And it's not much more than that. Drink, get drunk, catch a show, get drunk and move on to the next bar. The bartenders are all extremely friendly and the service is quick. This place is a very specific kind of experience. It's basically a dive bar with a killer drag show, which means the drinks are cheap and strong, and you're gonna have a good time! My friends and I have gone a few times now and each time is just as fun as the time before. The bar is usually pretty empty when we get there around 10pm for the first show, but you don't even really notice because the bartenders are all really fun and charismatic. And as soon as the queens start coming out, you definitely don't notice if the bar is packed or completely empty. It's a fun show. They do a lot of songs in Spanish, like really old love songs, deep cuts, which is fun to sing along if you grew up with them, or for a lot of my friends who don't speak Spanish, it's still really fun to watch them perform them! Once the first show is over, they start playing tons of salsa and merengue and it becomes a fun dance club, especially since you'll probably be pretty drunk if you're taking advantage of the cheap drink prices! I mean 8 bucks for two Bacardi and Coke's is pretty amazing. Around midnight, the second show comes on, and I never know if it's really significantly better or if I'm always just significantly drunker, but it always feel like the first show is a warm up and the midnight show has the queens coming out on supercharge! It's always a lot more upbeat and features more American pop songs and even the Spanish songs are more modern. Plaza is definitely a whole night, drag experience. I'm not too happy about the mixed drinks there...for some reason or other, I wake up with a headache the next morning. Stick to the beer if not, go pre-drunk ;) LOL The drag show I truly recommend. The vibe is great. I would want to hear more Rock en Espanol. People are kool too! and to be more specific on how carefree this hut is....I boink'd my buddy in the males restroom stall.
