I am a HUGE FAN. When I lived in LA, I had the very-bestest…read moreof the best alteration person. When I relocated to STL, I checked out the Yelp reviews of all area contenders. Alexandra's didn't have a ton of photos, but the language in previous reviews pointed me in their direction. The shop is co-located with a hair salon. I'm not sure if the hair salon keeps the same hours, but I posted a photo of Alexandra's hours here on Yelp. Double check before heading their way. They work SUPER hard to make alterations to your specifications. They will also make recommendations according to your garment's material(s) and what they have seen work and not work before. They have worked magic on my dresses, taken in jeans, and altered tops, hems, gowns, quilts, and more for me. They truly can do it all. The shop ladies are extremely friendly in a no-nonsense kind of way.....does that make sense? What I mean is - It seems like everyone in the area takes their items there, so they STAY busy. They have to stop working on their current project to help you, so it's usually less chit chat and more, "Go in and try it on." As I write this in 6/2025, I think the current return time os 8/2025. Keep in mind, June is right after prom season and right in the middle of wedding season. If I knew how to sew, I'd apply for part time basic work just to learn more from these ladies. The prices are reasonable. I always pay in cash as a nod to small business keeping more of monies earned. Lastly, check out my pictures of their seasonal "porch display." Most of the garments displayed are remnants of cloth these ladies fashioned into a dress. I KNOW the necklace paired with the winter dress was made with recycled buttons. I'll end how I began, "I'm a HUGE FAN."

Amazing work, quick turn around and super affordable. Customer service is great. Highly recommend.read more

I had purchased my dress from Mia Grace and it needed some significant alterations before my…read morehusband and I's wedding day. The biggest things that had to be addressed (that I noticed) was the length of the skirts, the length of the shoulders, and the plunge.... I wasn't crazy about how deep the plunge was on my dress, so the company gave me extra lace so Michelle could match the overall lace pattern. Michelle was extremely knowledgeable and professional throughout. She was able to alter the dress so it fit me perfectly, and she was so much fun to work with. Her work speaks for itself.... I attached two photos of my unaltered dress in the shop, and a few photos from our wedding so you can see her work. She also did me a huge favor which I greatly appreciate and it meant so much to me and my husband on the day of. I think I had gotten my dress back a week and a half before my wedding day, and I was trying to finalize a few surprises and final touches to make the day special for my husband. Michelle had handed me back the extra lace from my dress and told me that she could take one of the flowers from the lace and sew it into the back of Ryan's tie if I could get his tie into her ASAP. I loved that idea and quite literally absconded with my now husband's wedding tie for reasons unknown to him at the time. He got it back the morning of our wedding day and he apparently loved it so much he was showing most of his family the tie. I plan on coming back at the end of this month or the beginning of next to get my dress preserved, and we want to get my veil, my dress, and his tie preserved through the company Michelle uses. Thank you so much, Michelle!!!

I cannot recommend Michelle Ballard for bridal alterations. After paying $560 for a hem, bustle,…read moreand strap adjustments, my wife's gown was returned unwearable. We took the dress to a reputable bridal shop for a second opinion, and they confirmed the straps were shortened far beyond standard measurements for that size. Most disturbingly, when the dress wouldn't zip due to the over-shortened straps, Michelle's professional advice was for my wife to go on a 'strict diet' to fit into the dress. We have provided side-by-side photographic proof of the error to the business, but they have refused a full refund. If you are a bride-to-be, please be aware that if a technical mistake is made here, you may be blamed for it and left with a damaged dress and no recourse. We have filed a formal complaint with the Illinois Attorney General.

I dropped it off to her on Thursday, 10/9/25, explaining that I was flying out of the country for the wedding the following Wednesday. She accepted the job and assured me that my blazer would be ready on Saturday, 10/11/25, by 12:00 pm, She explained that she was closed on that following Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday of the following week. On Saturday, about a quarter til 12:00 PM, I arrived at the store to discover that the lights were off with no one present. I waited over an hour and made numerous attempts to contact her directly. I called several times, leaving voice messages and text messages, but received no response for over 2 weeks. In summary, I did not receive my blazer for my daughter's special day. I was forced to find something else to wear which was an added stressor for my daughter and family. Today, over two weeks since I dropped my blazer off, I contacted Erika, who finally answered the phone. She informed me that due to limited parking and her inability to walk, the store was closed on Saturday. She never took accountability for failing to reach out to me, only mentioning that she had not checked her messages. She cavalierly mentioned that I could collect the blazer today and pay full price because she "completed the job". With business practices such as this, you might want to consider another seamstress; someone who is accountable for their work and fulfills the job on or before the agreed upon date. Erika displayed a complete lack of communication, unsuitable follow-up, unprofessionalism and inconsideration.

I knew what color I wanted and the salesman on duty was helpful in showing me a variety to choose from. I made my choice and was on my way. When I got on line to update my review, I realized I have never sung the praises on how they have helped dress me for two previous weddings. My weight goes up and down like the stock market, so I can never wear the same Sport Coat to the next wedding. This time I lucked out and am able to wear one from a previous one. If not, I am sure they'd have found me a new one. After checking out with my new tie and pocket square, I checked out their clearance rack and I may go back to make a purchase. They had a pink vest and jacket that would look great with jeans. It would be a fun outfit, especially in October for Breast Cancer Awareness. If you need a suit or sport jacket, I recommend highly recommend Men's Wearhouse.

With the ice and snow that hit the greater STL area before the holidays, I came upon a friend of…read moremine stuck in the snow and at chance of sliding into a ditch. After helping direct her car, and providing a little extra weight to a slipping tire, we were able to rescue her car from most certain doom. The only downside to all of this, is I was wearing a fairly new suit that had been in range of snow and road grime from the spinning tire. So I began to consider my local dry cleaning options. I had used another dry cleaner in the area before, and while they did a good job, I felt that they were a little overpriced. Apple Cleaners being closer then any other place to wear I lived, received the first look during my investigation. This place got off to a really good start by offering coupons on their website (so check that out). I was able to get a $9 coupon off my bill for a 2 piece suit. Securing that deal I decided that Apple was worth a shot. Now this place is in a strip mall, and it is a dry cleaners, so I was expecting a bare sterile looking place when I walked in. This place is decorated nicely on the inside, which was an unexpected nice touch. I did go in on a Monday after the holidays, early in the morning to drop off my suit, and the place was busy. The line was 4 people deep when I walked in and only one person (there are two kiosks) working the desk. She did seem really annoyed when she saw me walk in, maybe the first day back from a long break was to blame but it wasn't very welcoming. She took my suit and my coupon and gave me my date to come pick it up, which was 3 days later. She explained that there was a longer wait, because they were backed up losing working days to the holidays. Went back when my suit was ready for pickup. New person working the desk, the place was empty, but it didn't stop her from giving me a very un-welcomed vibe when I walked through the door. I presented my pickup ticket and she quickly got my suit. They had done a great job and everything looked to be fine. The coupon left my remaining bill in the steal category so I was pretty happy about that. I would not hesitate to use Apple Cleaners again, especially with the coupons offered. This would of been a 5 star review though if it hadn't been for the service. We don't have to be best friends, but please don't give me the impression that I am ruining your day by being there.
