Finally an excellent seamstress in O'Fallon, IL. Hemmed my dress and attached underskirt perfectly.

    Alexandra's Alteration Shop - Valentines 2025 ensemble

    Alexandra's Alteration Shop

I am a HUGE FAN. When I lived in LA, I had the very-bestest…read moreof the best alteration person. When I relocated to STL, I checked out the Yelp reviews of all area contenders. Alexandra's didn't have a ton of photos, but the language in previous reviews pointed me in their direction. The shop is co-located with a hair salon. I'm not sure if the hair salon keeps the same hours, but I posted a photo of Alexandra's hours here on Yelp. Double check before heading their way. They work SUPER hard to make alterations to your specifications. They will also make recommendations according to your garment's material(s) and what they have seen work and not work before. They have worked magic on my dresses, taken in jeans, and altered tops, hems, gowns, quilts, and more for me. They truly can do it all. The shop ladies are extremely friendly in a no-nonsense kind of way.....does that make sense? What I mean is - It seems like everyone in the area takes their items there, so they STAY busy. They have to stop working on their current project to help you, so it's usually less chit chat and more, "Go in and try it on." As I write this in 6/2025, I think the current return time os 8/2025. Keep in mind, June is right after prom season and right in the middle of wedding season. If I knew how to sew, I'd apply for part time basic work just to learn more from these ladies. The prices are reasonable. I always pay in cash as a nod to small business keeping more of monies earned. Lastly, check out my pictures of their seasonal "porch display." Most of the garments displayed are remnants of cloth these ladies fashioned into a dress. I KNOW the necklace paired with the winter dress was made with recycled buttons. I'll end how I began, "I'm a HUGE FAN."

Amazing work, quick turn around and super affordable. Customer service is great. Highly recommend.read more

I had purchased my dress from Mia Grace and it needed some significant alterations before my…read morehusband and I's wedding day. The biggest things that had to be addressed (that I noticed) was the length of the skirts, the length of the shoulders, and the plunge.... I wasn't crazy about how deep the plunge was on my dress, so the company gave me extra lace so Michelle could match the overall lace pattern. Michelle was extremely knowledgeable and professional throughout. She was able to alter the dress so it fit me perfectly, and she was so much fun to work with. Her work speaks for itself.... I attached two photos of my unaltered dress in the shop, and a few photos from our wedding so you can see her work. She also did me a huge favor which I greatly appreciate and it meant so much to me and my husband on the day of. I think I had gotten my dress back a week and a half before my wedding day, and I was trying to finalize a few surprises and final touches to make the day special for my husband. Michelle had handed me back the extra lace from my dress and told me that she could take one of the flowers from the lace and sew it into the back of Ryan's tie if I could get his tie into her ASAP. I loved that idea and quite literally absconded with my now husband's wedding tie for reasons unknown to him at the time. He got it back the morning of our wedding day and he apparently loved it so much he was showing most of his family the tie. I plan on coming back at the end of this month or the beginning of next to get my dress preserved, and we want to get my veil, my dress, and his tie preserved through the company Michelle uses. Thank you so much, Michelle!!!

I cannot recommend Michelle Ballard for bridal alterations. After paying $560 for a hem, bustle,…read moreand strap adjustments, my wife's gown was returned unwearable. We took the dress to a reputable bridal shop for a second opinion, and they confirmed the straps were shortened far beyond standard measurements for that size. Most disturbingly, when the dress wouldn't zip due to the over-shortened straps, Michelle's professional advice was for my wife to go on a 'strict diet' to fit into the dress. We have provided side-by-side photographic proof of the error to the business, but they have refused a full refund. If you are a bride-to-be, please be aware that if a technical mistake is made here, you may be blamed for it and left with a damaged dress and no recourse. We have filed a formal complaint with the Illinois Attorney General.

Was looking to get a couple of patches sewn on to a leather vest. I called first to find out if…read morethey could do it, I was told yes they could bring it in. I got there and the lady asked if I was "A Harley" (She thinks it is a specific club) ( Yes Im aware of the Harley Owners Group) however I told her that I was not "A Harley" I ride a Honda.. "Honda Yes but not a Harley?" she says.. I explained that Harleys are just a brand of motorcycle.. "Oh Ok" So I showed her the patches and where I wanted them. They were 4 military uniform patches a little smaller than a baseball. And I asked how much. She told me it would be $50 because its leather. Thats fine she is free to come up with her pricing as she sees fit. It IS Leather not the easiest to sew through. I joked around with her that at most rides where there are vendors they charge about $5 per patch for the size patches I have. And she responded with "Well I think maybe you should go to them" I laigh and appreciate her honesty... then as I collect my things from the table and get ready to leave she says "If you were "A Harley" (Still believinga Harley was a type of person) I wouldve done it for $20, cause they are not so tight" (Tight with the $) and that is what threw me.. again I must ask why is it that people WITH money always seems to not need it? They get everything thrown at them or discounted for no other reason than they have more of it to throw around? Now dont get me wrong after hearing her prices I would not have returned there anyhow.. but after her little comment about my not being "A Harley" I will definitlly not be returning. If Only I were a Motorcycle...

The tailor is thorough and does a well-executed job. She isn't dirt cheap, no, but as the old adage goes: you get what you pay for. Her alterations are such that you'd never know they were done and are as strong and sturdy as the factory finished piece was prior to. That's the point and the sign of a good tailor. On top of that, she's quick and finishes pieces in a very timely manner. I recommend folks to King's all the time. She's worth every penny.
