Poor attempt at Mexican food. They could not get our orders straight. We asked that they did not include beans with the kids meals and everyone got beans. Then the steak fajitas cooked with onions and peppers had no flavor and the meat was very fatty. The sour cream really was poor quality. The only good thing that they served us was a hand made guacamole dip. It was great. All in all way to expensive for a very poor quality of food and service. We should have gone to Moe's! read more

I think it's extremely hard to find good, authentic Mexican food. Especially in Reading. But Plaza Azteca is the place to go. Table-side guac = amazing. Vegetarian platters.... a bunch of greasy beans and melted cheese wrapped in flour or corn tortillas. What more could you ask for? The margaritas are pretty nice as well. read more

We came here while visiting from out of town with some friends. It was our second visit here, and both times we had a very good experience. The margaritas never disappoint, and the staff is extra friendly. I'd rate the food as being on par, with some dishes being above average. Great table side guacamole too! The place is dirty, and let me tell you, I've been to Monterrey 20 times and Azteca produces the most unauthentic Mexican food I have ever eaten. Since my last review I must have been at this restaurant at least 100 times. There are seriously months I am here once a week. The service aspect has gotten much better. I have ate at most of the other local Mexican spots and always come back to Azteca. It's just that good. Best tableside guac by far. Enchiladas, tostadas, tacos, nachos, chimichangas, salad...all the best. Their shredded chicken, ground beef, and refried beans are superior to other local joints. Atmosphere is warm, front of house is very nice and welcoming. The only complaint about the place would be that the menu is huge!...but everything on it is amazing. Get the guacamole made at the table - super fresh and super good. You can choose how spicy it is as well. I ordered the chicken and spinach enchiladas with poblano sauce - sooo delicious. Definitely will never be back. We went here one night, since our normal mexican restaurant was quite packed so we decided to come here that had a shorter wait time. Well as we said when we were walking in "i hope the shorter line isn't a sign" and it surely was. First off the hostess pointed to a table for us to go to, did not escort us to the table. That was our first thing. I ordered a margarita that was terrible. For a mexican restaurant I expect fresh lime juice, not bottled. It was terrible and not made well. Dinner- I had the pork carnitas and my partner had a combo plate that included enchiladas and tacos. Not good at all. My pork was very greasy and fatty. My tortillas were soggy. I asked for a side of sour cream and was charged $2.50, I couldn't believe it for a small little cup, it was smaller than a single shot glass. Other restaurants I have been to charges around $1.00 which would have been fine. Then after leaving the restaurant we both felt rather sick and ended up with some sort of stomach flu. Plaza Azteca is where it's at. Ok, ok. Plaza Azteca is where it's at when you desperately crave Mexi-American cuisine. I've picked up a nasty habit of defaulting to this place as a go-to for lunch. It's close enough to work that I can have a sit down meal and return with plenty of time, but gets me out of the office and away from the ordinary. The thing that sets Plaza Azteca apart is the food. They offer some of the best selection of Mexican around. Not only is the selection amazing, but the quantities and speed at which they cook and serve the meals to you is outstanding. Their competition, locally, consists of Alebreje and On the Border, but it really is no competition. Something else to mention is the service. I've never had a bad waiter/waitress at Plaza Azteca. They are on the ball with taking your orders, delivering chips (and chip refills!) as well as breaking up checks for larger groups without question. Do you see that, Canal Street Pub? They break checks without additional frustration! My go to meal here is the lunch special Burrito San Jose. This monstrosity, though lunch portioned, is still to much for me to finish in one sitting. It's a big burrito stuffed with chorizo, cheese, chicken, topped with more cheese and pico de gallo. It's just magnificent If you're looking for some after-hour/happy hour relaxation, you should check out Plaza Azteca's "Bulldog" offering at the bar. This margarita with a turned-over Corona is a feat to overcome and leaves you wishing/hoping/praying for someone to drive you home. It's quite tasty and filling! I had a $5 off coupon for this place, otherwise I wouldn't have tried it. It looks like another Mexican chain. The guacamole is made at your table and was very good. I had potato and cheese enchiladas which were good if you like pierogies, that's exactly what they tasted like. My friend had the Burrito San Jose, which was HUGE. He said it was delicious. The rice had a strange taste that I didn't care for at all, beans were your standard refried. All in all, decent food at a reasonable price. Every single time I come here I always have a great experience. Everything is amazing. No matter what it is it's great. Always have to get the guacamole to start and they make it right in front of you and honor your request of ingredients. Entrees are brought out swiftly and even when busy they have a knack for making you not wait too long at all. The staff makes you feel special and is ever reluctant to keep bringing the chips and salsa which is one of the best parts. The fried ice cream is great. My wife and I go out a lot and when the craving for the evening is Mexican food we end up at Plaza Azteca. The service is nice, prompt, and attentive. We normally start out with the table side made fresh guacamole. It is always made well with a good balance of flavor and the perfectly ripened avocados. The best appetizer is the Mexican sausage in melted cheese sauce, it is lick the plate good. For my entrée I normally order one of the combos, and the amount of food you get for the price is ridiculous. You never leave hungry. The burritos are HUGE, the meat is full of flavor and just delicious, the produce is fresh and just perfectly compliment the meal. I suggest getting the combo with a tamale, burrito and enchilada, or if you are really hungry order the one of the burritos with a side of beans. I am definitely a fan of Plaza Azteca read more

My girlfriend and I ate there last Saturday night. The drinks were generously poured and tasted great. We both liked the food we ordered. Once we were seated the service was fast. This was the second time we ate at Plaza Azteca and we were very pleased. The tableside gaucamole was amazing and they kept refilling our chips! My husband ordered the chicken fajitas, which were flavorful and delicious. Unfortunately, I wasn't as happy with my meal (beef tacos). There was nothing wrong with them, I just didn't care for the flavor. However, when the waiter came to check on us and asked me if I didn't like the tacos, I was honest and said no. He apologized and then told us that the manager took the price of the meal off of our check. I was shocked and felt that went above and beyond - I didn't feel that it was necessary to comp my meal since it was my finicky taste buds that had the problem. Of course, I was incredibly grateful anyway. Since I barely ate dinner, we ordered dessert and it did not disappoint! The churros were filled with an apple mixture, drizzled in chocolate and came with a side of vanilla ice cream. DELICIOUS! My family and I go here at least twice a month, the waiters are nice but avoid you for a long time. Every time I order a meal that comes with rice an beans, they both taste very bland. The meals themselves have a low quality taste and the plating is always very messy. For how much you pay for each meal its not worth going there. In a word...."eh!". Was in the area and the exterior caught our eye. The interior doesn't match the outside though. Bland decor, water damaged ceiling tiles, but clean. Our waitress, Maria, was sweet and attentive. Passed the guy making fresh guacamole, but the HUGE tip jar on his cart turned me off, so passed on that. Entrees were ordinary.
