I've always enjoyed eating here, I think they might have gotten a new coat? The beans tasted a little bit different this time. I love the taste that they previously had but not sure what happened today. As I walked in, the area looked a little bit dirty. I understand that it's Valentine's Day but keeping up with maybe sweeping a little bit more would be recommended. Waiters are always nice and willing to compromise when requests asked. I love doing the cheese fondue, the only thing I would recommend is to make it a little bit more thicker. I tried this place for lunch while passing through the area. I was excited to get the breakfast burrito lunch special. I was seated and the service was very slow and they seemed understaffed. My breakfast burrito had some type of meat in in (even though it is not listed as having meat included on the menu). I wanted to eat vegetarian so I had to pick the burrito apart. We were seated right away to some uncomfortable seats, server didn't seem friendly. Decor is too cheesy and not authentic. I was hoping for authentic Mexican food. My hopes were too high, its more like Tex Mex. A big bar and beer coolers but no home made Margaritas? Margaritas in a can is what you will get. Great Food, Great Service I was driving on Perkiomen Ave in Reading and passed this place. Decided to give it a try. It was well worth the U-Turn. My server was very attentive and pleasant. Chips and salsa are always a good indicator of what's to come. The chips were fresh and warm with great texture, and the salsa was excellent. I ordered shrimp tacos, which were really, really good -- well prepared and delicious! Great authentic Mexican food. I will be back on my next trip to Reading! read more

Still good food and everything I said last month is true for this month. I just thought I'd add a photo. Also, a minor ding. they tend to run the music a little on the loud side. No problem when there are no customers, but maybe take it down a couple of notches when the place fills up. Don't you love when you discover a new place, and it becomes your go-to for a certain dish or particular craving? That's what happened to me with Norte Sur and fajitas. Is there still a shortage of chicken? Within the past year, the price of chicken has skyrocketed. Wings especially were hit hard. There's this local place that had an AYCE wing special two nights a week. Now it's $0.95 wing night. That's a special, mind you. Wings are routinely over $1.00 a piece now when buying by the dozen. Truly a dark time. Chicken fajita prices were also affected. My former regular spot increased their price by 14.66%. A new Mexican restaurant opened near my work, and they charge a whopping $20.99 for the sizzling, attention-grabbing, fan-favorite dish. Life pro-tip: Never look directly at the people having a sizzling plate of fajitas delivered to their table. It's what they want. Now, I don't want to give Norte Sur any ideas, but their prices are so good it's almost absurd. Chicken shortage? What chicken shortage? If you can snag an order during lunch hours (11:00 AM - 3:00 PM), chicken fajitas will only set you back $8.99. If you'd rather them for dinner, it's only $2 more. Feeling a bit nuts? $14.99 will get you an order of Fajitas Norte Sur, which combines chicken, steak, chorizo & shrimp. And whether you order for lunch or dinner, you still get all the fixins': rice, beans, lettuce, and pico de gallo to go along with two sides that many restaurants STILL charge extra for - sour cream & guacamole. Just an incredible value through and through. The taco salad was no slouch, either. A pile of cool, crisp iceberg lettuce topped with fresh pico, cheese, sour cream and your choice of either chicken or ground beef. There are four dressings available (I recommend the chipotle ranch), and a side of homemade guacamole is included for good measure. I don't think I've had a lunch special there that I didn't like. Just incredible flavor to go along with extraordinary value. Norte Sur has rendered many of the other Mexican restaurants in the area obsolete. Until the quality begins to suffer or the prices significantly rise, Norte Sur will be my preferred destination. read more

Hands down the best Mexican in Berks county. I've been here for 3 years trying to find a solid Mexican restaurant to patronize. Everything else has been hipster Mexican which is just too much for me. Everything about this place is a piece of Heaven. Here's what I love: *Queso Dip: omg perfect consistency and flavor! Spot on every single time. *Fajitas Norte Sur: thee best fajitas everrrrr. I'm not a fan of the chorizo but everything else is A-1! I've never sat in the restaurant so not sure how the portions might be there. I've done DoorDash and pickup at the restaurant. This review is for Mt Penn location on Perkiomen Ave where Charcoal Chef used to be. This is the absolute worst Mexican food I've ever eaten. So bland ! Mexican food should be spicy and flavorful but the food here is just blah. They have a large bar but do not serve liquor. The decor is sparse and the music loud and annoying. My employer purchased food here for our recent Christmas party and enjoyed it. I decided to stop in to have dinner tonight, and am very glad that I did. Everything was delicious, especially the vegetable quesadilla. It's probably the best I've had in a very long time. The facility itself is very cozy and very clean - even the bathroom. My MIL went to this restaurant for lunch with someone before COV-19 happened. She came back shouting their praises! We decided to try it after COV-19 happened. The woman showed up in a mask & sat the food down like we asked. She was SO VERY polite! The food was GREAT! It was still warm! Delivery is ALWAYS fast! We've ordered from there several times since then. EVERY SINGLE time we have been happy with everything! The lady is always "Social Distancing" appropriate. She's Always happy & VERY NICE! I'd totally try to hug her if it weren't for COVID-19!!! Lol The food is always great, warm, & the presentation is always beautiful! The fajitas are a little different than, say Alebrije. I personally prefer Alebrije's fajitas, but my husband loves them! I've tried most things on their menu..At least 1 thing from each section, & have ALWAYS been very happy with my food! You can definitely tell they're using good quality meats & fresh veggies! Today, we ordered dinner. They forgot to put my tacos in the bag. We were going to call (after we were done eating) to see if they could just credit us the tacos for next time. Before we were even done eating, she called & said "They forgot the tacos. From the rice and beans to their skirt steaks , tacos and soups, all are so flavorful and not over cooked or rushed.
