From the moment we got into the seats, the server wanted to take our orders even before offering drinks. We ended up ordering our drinks and food at the same time. The food came out first and we had to advise our waiter about our drinks as we were midway through our meals. The waiter had to make his own drinks as we were told there was no bartender for the night. The server seemed annoyed as he slammed the drinks on the table and just walked away without any apologies for the delay. Needless to say, we will not be going back to this location.!! read more

That took 35 minutes to arrive and had to ask about it. Took another 15mins for someone to take out order. Asked for more chips for the guac app we ordered. Server nowhere to be found, trainee "helping to take care of us" was across the room folding napkins. Other staff standing around on their phones. Entrees came out 10 mins apart. I have been a customer of Alebrije since it just existed on 5th street over by what used to be Kmart. Since the opening of the Wyomissing location years ago I have never had any issues with this restaurant. I often prefer this place than Plaza Azteca or On the Border (but generally I feel like they all have quality food). Atmosphere: There is currently walk-in dine in seating (despite that I called ahead anyway) but everyone is seated at a table around the perimeter inside the restaurant if that makes sense. I did not see any tables in the middle and they also have these clear plastic wall/barriers between booths to prevent any contact with other customers. All staff are wearing masks and I did even see some wearing gloves. The place is generally dim lighted except at your table it's pretty bright. Around 6pm they started having a live singer and a manager (I think) went around table to table placing a wooden tip box for them. Overall the atmosphere is nice. Food: we ordered steak fajitas (can't ever go wrong with that), burrito Alebrije and an appetizer of nachos de carnitas. Delicious and really have no complaints. Everything was very filling, we even had leftovers to take home! Service: I forget our server's name, it started with a K. I want to say Kersi? Something like that. She was very attentive, kind and positive. I saw her moving around table to table making sure everyone was taken care of and kept an eye to make sure we weren't low on drinks or anything. I never had bad service here or even at the 5th street one. The hostess seated us immediately and was also very kind. 12/24/2019- So glad I ordered the Margarita! or shall I say MargaritaSSS. You can't have just one. These are made perfectly. We came in for lunch after going to the dentist office next door. We sat at the bar and were greeted right away. They brought out chips and salsa. The salsa was watery, nothing special. I ordered the salmon tacos (4 per order) on the corn tortilla. It came with rice and refried beans. It was a nice size plate. The tacos were topped with mango, cilantro, onions and jalapeno. They had a nice kick to it. The service was outstanding. Always fresh and tasty. Typical TexMex faire enchiladas, tacos, tostados, nachos. Waitstaff is friendly and courteous. Food was delivered quickly and piping hot. House Margarita was large and delicious. Tried the enchiladas supremas, they were very good. Stuffed with chicken, beef and pork. Complimentary chips and fresh salsa that had a bit of a kick. We had the shrimp nachos as an appetizer, large enough for 4 to share, covered in shrimp. Was absolutely delicious. Music was not too loud - which is great. We were seated at a booth and waited for 7 minutes while no server came to our table. While we waited, one server sat at the bar socializing with the bartender and another stood nearby looking at her phone. If this had been the first time, we might have waited. On January 27, 2022 at 1pm, we ordered chicken chimichangas and on the third bite one of us discovered a huge adult maggot in our food! We tried to report this to the manager but he was not on premises. The waitress was simply going to throw it away in a napkin (after we asked her to keep it to show the manager) however we also took a photo. We put it on a dish for the waitress to show the management. "Eating maggots or maggot-infested food can cause bacterial poisoning! Most foods that have maggots aren't safe to eat, especially if the larvae have been in contact with feces. Both conditions can also cause bloody stool and fatigue." This has been reported to the food health safety department. This was a horrific experience. We are very concerned for other customers and this is why we posted this warning. NOTE: We will continue to make sure by word of mouth the seriousness of this situation so others will not have the same experience at this restaurant. This is indicative of an unhealthy food facility, and it is not to be taken lightly. This is about food and personal safety, and inspections will ensure that the restaurant managers and owners will comply to all regulations. read more

New location, same great food and service. I'm glad they were able to move out of that tiny strip mall with the pot-hole ridden parking lot. Now the fine folks at Alebrije have a proper standalone building in Wyomissing. It's clean. It has an amazing bar area. And it's BIG! I'll have to admit, I sometimes felt a bit cramped at the former location down the street. Space issues, be damned! This place is now the total package. My only knock is - what happened to the old fajita recipe? I've raved about the fajitas at the old location, and I assumed they would be the same after the move down the road. But the meat comes out dryer now with less veggies and, unfortunately, less flavor to boot. Oh, and there's less meat overall in each serving. Bring back the old portion/preparation/seasoning/veggie-amount! Those were the good ol' days. Let's not forget where we came from, Alebrije! read more

Ordered the 3 tacos - Steak and Chorizo - to go. The meat was overcooked and looked like they had scraped the top of the grilling plate into my tacos. The salsa for the chips was basically chopped stewed tomatoes - Flavorless. The chips were good. The worst part was that I got very ill from the meal. I can usually handle a lot of spice, so I know it was not that. I had stomach problems all the next day. The meal was overpriced and definitely not fresh. This was my first visit to Alebrije on State Hill rd. The dining room was modern and clean with a nice looking bar. There were 5 of us for dinner and the tables made all of us comfortable. Our server greeted us quickly taking our drink order. The order was for a beer, two sodas and 2 margaritas. The drinks although not complicated took a bit long to arrive but all were good. They did serve a basket of nacho's with a very good salsa. We also got a cheesy fries appetizer which was not bad. Our order was placed and when the food started to come to the table the dishes were all broken up. Dipping sauces came with the wrong dish and not everyone was served at the same time. We had a little of each dish. The dishes included duck tacos, chicken chimichanga, Birria tacos, salmon and beef fajitas. The Birra was not good. They prepared it incorrectly and did not give the stew on the side. I think there were 2 bites taken and that's it. The salmon was bland and just a bit over cooked. The chimichanga was huge and stuffed with shredded chicken. Unfortunately the chicken was dry and again there was no real seasoning. The duck tacos and the fajitas were good but also lacked seasoning. Our server was ok but with all the dishes and drinks it would have been nice if he were a bit more attentive and kept our dishes cleared. Over all it was an "OK" meal but I don't think we will be going back. read more

Over the last year or so I feel like this place has taken a nosedive. Tonight validated that feeling. We stopped in after my sons soccer game. There were a few tables there. We were quickly seated and then we sat and sat for at least 5-10 minutes. Our server finally came over and we gave her our drink order. For some reason, the bar takes what seems like forever to make drinks. My drink was fine but my husband received a margarita that was filled about 1" or more from the top making it look empty. We gave our food order and it came out at three different times. My husband waited about 10-12 minutes after the rest of our food came out. The food was hot and tasted fine. We had to flag down another server because we needed a few things that we had previously asked our server. Typically I would have waited but our server was more interested in sitting at the bar on her phone and not paying attention to the 1-2 tables she had. Overall, the service has changed drastically and not for the better. I miss the old staff that was extremely attentive and quick to do the necessary things. I hope that service turns around to match the quality of their food or they're going to turn into On the Border. read more

It took a long time for decent Tex Mex to come to the Reading area but this restaurant fits the bill. There wasn't anything outstanding that we tried (salmon tacos, chicken burrito with vegetables, pork burrito, chimichanga) but everyone enjoyed their meal and the portions were large enough that 3 of us had leftovers. You won't go hungry here. The overall menu is routine and very Americanized even for Tex Mex. I understand why though given the customer base. This isn't a crowd that would eat goat or try beef tongue. Service wasn't great but decent. The only thing we didn't enjoy was the complementary chips and salsa. The tortilla chips were very salty and the fresh salsa was too watery. Just need less salt on the chips and more actual tomatoes and onions in the salsa. This isn't great food but it is good value for the money. No surprise there were a bunch of families in here. Good option except for vegans and strict vegetarians. read more

Over?? a decade now. I remember when they opened their first location in Wyomissing and then moved to their new place. I am literally never disappointed when I come here. The food is always good, the margaritas are fantastic and the staff is amazing. The only thing that stinks for me is that they have greatly reduced the amount of vegetarian friendly options in their menu. Way back in time, they had a whole section of the menu dedicated to veg options, but that no longer exists. While disappointing, the spinach enchiladas that I ordered were really great and helped me forget about the lack of variety. The bartender that served us was super nice and attentive. Much appreciated on a busy Friday night :). I really love Alebrije and I don't know that I'll ever get sick of coming here. Honestly one of the best local chains in the Reading area and I'm really glad they've existed for so long and keep evolving their menu. First off, the food is always good here. There is no problem with the food whatsoever. Usually our experience here is a lot better, I think we just caught them on a bad day... It's a hot summer day-and their AC isn't working. NOT GOOD at a restaurant where you are eating spicy food. We left sweating. They forgot to bring out our appetizer, so we got our food before that. Which is never good. They also forgot our sour cream. Honest mistake but by this point in our dinner we were ready to get the heck out of there. Overall we will be back. But let's hope the service is better. UPDATE: 11/28 my boyfriend and I ordered takeout from here, and everything tasted amazing. The one issue was we ordered queso and they forgot the chips!!! So we paid $4.99 for cheese sauce we couldn't even eat. Next time, if there is a next time, I will make sure to mention that to the staff and HOPEFULLY we can get a free order. I hate to sound mean because times are tough. But, this was by far the worst Mexican food we have ever had. The chicken in the enchiladas my mother in law ordered smelled weird and tasted unseasoned. The tortillas had hard edges as if old. And the sauce left much to be desired. The enchiladas my husband had tasted like bad cafeteria food and my steak tacos although flavored much better were so chewy it was like chewing gum. We sent back my mother in laws dish but didn't have the heart to send everything back because we were the only customers there and clearly the business was suffering. I just moved up to PA from GA and looked for a good Mexican Restaurant. After looking at Yelp and the reviews, my family and I gave Alebrije a try. Great environment upon walking in. Arrived at 6 pm on a Saturday and we got seated. Within 5 min there was a 20 wait and the small parking lot was filled. There was a classical guitarist playing Latin songs of all time periods....but no Macarena or La Bamba like many Mexican restaurants have. This added to feel and environment. Drinks came out cold and quick. Even though I didn't have one....everyone (almost everyone) had ordered some form of a Margarita. I felt like I was missing out on something by ordering a beer. Had my first meal at this establishment today (which was nice and clean on the inside) and it was just okay. We had about a 2 minute wait for a table. We arrived to the restaurant at about 630 on a Friday night. It took a while to get our food as the place was pretty steady. They did offer unlimited chips and salsa. I basically live here! The best Mexican restaurant in Berks County! The food is amazing, authentic, and percent lit in my opinion. Also the drinks such as Mexican sodas, margaritas, and other alcoholic beverages are popping and are more refreshing than the ocean's breeze on a boiling hot summer day. Every single dish on the menu is straight fire My personal favorite is the pollo jalisco which is a silky smooth combination better than Jordan and Pippen in 1996. It contains Mexican rice and sizzling grilled chicken topped off with a thick and smooth cheese sauce. It's the official definition of heaven. By the way don't come on Saturday night. They always have this crazy Mexican performer with his weird jokes. Let me just say this guy is crazy! Finally, the service is absolutely fantastic 10/10 or actually420/10!
