Came here on a Friday night for a spit of the moment dinner out. They had karaoke set up (8 to midnight!). No one was singing but it still made for a fun and funky vibe. The food was good, and the portions were large. The servers were very attentive and friendly. This place was decorated very authentically I loved all the plants in the resturant. The service was great we didn't have to wait very long. We had a certificate from Restaurant.com to this restaurant. We went for dinner Sunday evening. The restaurant refused to honor the certificate even though it had not expired and was clearly to this restaurant. They claimed they had not participated with Restaurant.com for 1.5 to 2 years. Yet, their restaurant still shows on the website for certificates to be purchased! We stayed anyways. Food was adequate but not exceptional. We won't be returning. read more

I have to give a bad review only because they got my order wrong , even when I read it back to them and then they read it back to me saying yes that is exactly what you will be getting. So I know it is not just a language barrier. When we got home , completely wrong order. I called back to try to fix it and they would not try not fix it. They just said that is what you ordered, but I recieved a pork tamale and cheese enchilada and what I ordered was chile relleno and a chicken enchilada so clearly it is not the same thing. SO good! There were so many options on the menu it became hard to choose. To start we ordered nachos, which tasted like they were made with house-made chips, always my preference! Even though there were four of us I ended up eating most of it. Then came our food! I got four different kinds of tacos, all with their own unique flavor. They were also fairly large portions. This is our usual "Go To" restaurant on the weekends because the food is good, the beers are cold, the waitresses are friendly and the food gets to your table quickly. There's a popular Mexican restaurant 3 blocks away that charges higher prices and in my opinion tastes no different than Playa Azul. Playa Azul may not have the fancy tables or bigger location, but hey, I'm here to eat the food, not sight see. I highly recommend the Mexican hamburger, the pasole or the chicken chimichanga - but I think you'll like whatever you order. The chili isn't spicy at all, so if that's what you're looking for, you will be disappointed. read more

This is one of the places my family and I go to every now and then. The service is nice and so is the atmosphere. We never have a complaint. Honestly we always have the seafood there. My go to is always the Caldo 7 mares or the Camarones playa azul which are shrimp wrapped in bacon and filled with white cheese, topped with their ranchera sauce which never fails to satisfy my taste buds. The 7 mares is much more better here than in the Mexican restaurants surrounding it (in my option) like: las islitas, Torres, Puerto Vallarta to say a few. I have to agree with a lot of the other reviews here noting the service was great and the atmosphere was fine. Our food was great and there was plenty of it; we all brought back leftovers. I had the Enchiladas Mariscos and they were fine. I don't recall seeing much else but shrimp in there, but I'm sure the other seafood was in there as well. My wife had the (soft) chile relleno with cheese enchilada and my daughter had the fried version. My wife wasn't thrilled with the egg crust on the relleno but she didn't realize that was just a style of having it served. I tasted it and it was fine. read more

" Best Mexican Food in Denver" I've been going to Playa Azul since when they were located on 15th and Curtis- like 15 years ago. Now that it's located on Federal, I make at least two trips a month to Playa Azul. I love the freshness, authenticness the salsa here. There many Mexican restaurants in Denver, but no one has good salsa like theirs. When I'm there, I normally order the beef and shrimp fajitas. The fajitas are at a good price, and the quantity of the food is fair. Also, the smothered breakfast burritos are amazing. On the weekends, they have a female making homemade corn tortillas. Was very disappointed when we visited this restaurant. We had a restaurant.com certificate and actually drove more than 20 miles to get there. The food was mediocre at best, the beans had an off taste...kind of metallic. The worst part was the place did not have a working bathroom...both the ladies and the men's restrooms were plugged and not able to be used. Staff was asked a few times if they were working on it and although several staff went in and out of both restrooms, nothing was done to fix the problem. We had two young children that needed to use the restroom so they had to be taken across the street to the gas station to use their restroom. If the food had been exceptional,the bathroom issue wouldn't keep us from returning, however with mediocre food and the restroom problems....we won't be returning. read more

Food was great, Service was friendly and quick, restaurant was comfortable and very clean!! They have everything on the menu from burritos to seafood and we each really liked our entrees. I had the Chicken Mole and it was very flavorful and authentic (it's hard to find a good Chicken Mole in Denver). We even tried a seafood dish that was excellent! The salsa was fresh and tasty.
