SO UNNECESARILY RUDE :( I don't know why or how they have gotten so rude at this location. I called to put in an order. I started telling him how I wanted a combination that is listed on their website for this particular location and he starts berating me telling me they dont have combos and don't sell combos and that I am WRONG and that I am looking at the WRONG menu listed on THEIR website. How is it my responsibility that this is the menu that comes up for THEIR LOCATION!? Dude...Just take the order with the items individually, this isnt rocket science. I don't know why he was so bothered or why this was such a difficult task. I usually give people the benefit of the doubt, but the lack of efficiency and just wanting to berate instead of just saying we dont do combos but can definitely do them seperately. Cool. but no, I was the one that asked him if they could do the order separately and that's when he finally agreed. My hubby loves coming here for their burritos. He says this is the closest thing to the California hand held burritos that he could find. We've tried many things here and all are pretty good. Servers are polite. What we swallowed: * BEEF TACO: Simple and tasty. *HORCHATA: Creamy and delicious. *FRIED EGG ROLLS: We ordered these to sample, they were almost like thick taquitos. They were two different kinds, both good but one was HOOOOOOT. *MEXICAN PIZZA: Yes, I am nostalgic from my Taco Bell days but this was actually pretty good. I ordered two bean and cheese burritos one with half and half chili on the side and one smothered with mild chili, I mentioned mild chili three times to make sure it was mild!!!! Because he asked me two more times after ordering if I was smothering one of them ( pay attention )! I said yes only with mild chili. when I got home the mild chili was not mild chili, it was hot! so I called them and the guy that took my order told me to bring it back and they'll get me a new one. Well when I got there he tried to argue with me that it was mild chili and the one with the chili on the side was the mild chili and it was the same exact thing that was on my burrito. He insisted it was the mild chili! Because the immigrants were telling him it was mild! then another employee gave me a little bit of the mild chili in a little cup so I tasted it and that was mild. Then one of the immigrants tried to speak to me in Spanish and I don't speak Spanish so she got mad at me! When I got home I had my burrito with my mild chili but no cheese and it was so salty I couldn't even eat it!! Well I really appreciate the girl who showed them that it definitely was not the mild chili he claimed it to be, maybe the person that cooks needs to use less salt. I wasn't going to go back a second time out of respect for the girl who actually cared enough to let me taste the mild.. maybe they should hire more people like her!! Spent $120 here and the food was so salty it tasted bitter so we couldn't take a second bite. When we called them they told us to take it back and we drove for 45 minutes just to get back. When explaining what was wrong to the owner my boyfriend was being extremely respectful and just asked for a refund. In return the owner told us if we complain about the price we won't get anything good. To me it sounded like he purposefully did something to our food. Even though we were respectful, he came at us with aggression and attitude. The girl at the register gave us the dirtiest look the whole time and didn't respond to us when we first brought her the food. Instead of responding, she pretended like we didn't exist until the owner came up. Overall, this was my first time going to tamale kitchen and was excited at first since my boyfriend's a longtime customer but was completely disappointed at the quality of the food and the horrible customer service. They need to fix their professionalism or I have no doubt they will be out of business soon. Tamale Kitchen is one of those places that you really need to find out what they do well. I wasn't overly impressed with the Tamales and lunch type food, but oh man are the breakfast burritos on point! Highly recommend! If you're looking for a filling morning meal this is the place. My favorite thing to get are the bean and cheese eggrolls with a side of chile ! They're always made fresh , but if you are to get them i'd ask for them to be extra crispy just to ensure they're cooked all the way because my boyfriend had got some once and they were a bit undercooked . I just got my order from doordash. Under the instructions i asked for the meat well done it wasn't, it was more onion and peppers than actual meat. I asked for an extra salsa and didn't even get the ONE it comes with. For being $14 I feel ripped off. We LOVE ordering from here!! It's always our go-to and we regularly get the same items. I always get their ground beef tacos, side of rice, and chips with queso! Don't sleep on their queso! My husband always gets the Mexican hamburger smothered and he also loves their Mexican egg rolls. We occasionally like to split their green chile cheese fries (only because calories ya know!) The driver was rude too. Our place is a little hard to find but I give pretty good directions, which most drivers read. Makes the delivery much easier for them and he read none of them. Came to the wrong door, was not contact less - not sure if he was pissed that it took him a few minutes to find the place (because he doesn't read directions) or the bag he picked up was dripping all over the place. I've eaten at the Tamale Kitchen three days in a row now, the sole reason I came to check this place out is because of the tamales. The only reason I've been returning is because the spicy hot green chili. The chili's heat and flavor are bar none, the best I've found in my long days of searching (since my grandma not cooking and me leaving Mexico) The place is a literal hole. My fingers went numb eating my chips and guacamole as it was cold out side and the place is lacking in heat. The lines never stop BUT it's worth it if your looking for true authentic food. You can tell with every bite that it is home made and not from Sysco. Only caveat that I could suggest is take the lard out of the green Chile. Some of us want no animal product in our food at all. Other wise I will continue to come here because I've become addicted to the home made gauc and Chile. I ordered carne asada fries during our most recent visit and there was carne asada + other random meats in my fries. When we arrive, we were THE ONLY customers yet the 6+ staff members looked at us and continued talking before coming to the counter to help us. More of a 3.5 of 5. I've had some really bad experiences at other Tamale Kitchen locations, particularly Edgewater, but a friend swore this location was better and we had a tamale craving. He was right. This location had a functioning staff, a clean lobby, and decent service time. I could tell this was a much more popular location as it was very busy. I got a dozen tamales and a chicken enchilada plate. The food was temperature hot even after I got home 30 minutes later. The tamales were well done and tasty. Although I got the hot tamales they lacked any heat. The enchiladas tasted awful, couldn't even finish them. Again with the enchilada sauce, seriously lay off the Chile powder. There are other ingredients in enchilada sauce than Chile powder and oil. It can't even be economical to put that much Chile in a sauce. Use like 1/4 or 1/3 of the Chile powder of what you're using, and kick up the tomato sauce, stock, and cumin. Enchilada sauce is so easy, idk how y'all are messing this up. This place they're so inconsistent. I refuse to order delivery anymore because not once have we gotten the correct order. My boyfriend likes to have his with fried over easy eggs and I don't care. I just order no potato. Today we ordered the usual. His came and they had scrambled eggs not fried. We specifically say fried or cancel the order. They sent scrambled. I ordered sausage and egg with chili and extra cheese. I got potato egg and sausage no chili and it felt like the burrito was a day old sitting in the heat. Super dry and disgusting. I had it. I drove to the place and asked them wtf was going on. Why don't you guys read the orders. They were clearly frying eggs. They know what that is.
