The Salsa Bar Galore @ Carnitas Estilo Michoacán April 13th 2013 visit.
    Riza H. C.

Saturday April 13th 2013, 12 NOON, 7 friends and I opt to have Lunch here for our Meetup. This time around I opt to have the Fish Taco and Strawberry Aqua Fresh less than $5.00 in total. I like the Fish Tacos, though I cant deny, my previous options of Tacos are way better. The service was slightly slow that afternoon. Furthermore, there are also other Patrons having their Lunch, so I can understand the sentiments if the kitchen was swamped. If I am not mistaken the first order to arrive at our table was about 12:27hrs ish. All in all my friends like what they order, with the portion they received that afternoon for Lunch. From what I could recall the items that my friends order were : * Several orders of Tacos * Michoacán Torta * Several order of Smothered Burritos, one of which just contains Beans for my friend who opt for the Vegetarian option. * A Supreme Nachos Piled MILE HIGH! aka HUGE PORTIONS * Enchiladas * Quesadillas I left this establishment about 13:10hrs coz I have a prior engagement later that afternoon. @84/2013

Carnitas Estilo Michoacan was our 2nd stop on the illustrious Carrie C. memorial Taco Tour. Wow! The lovely food and cornucopial (yes, I have made up this word) complementary salsa bar were just so yummy! Fish tacos were what I ordered. Good beyond description. Next time I dine here I would like to try their Rellenos. Good service, beautiful food, low low prices, clean cheerful atmosphere. Many thanks to Doug Y. for finding this place and sharing it with all of us. I have taken the liberty of sharing Matt P.'s photo of us enjoying our food this afternoon during the event. I have given him credit below the picture. Try this restaurant...it is a real treat!

Very bad hawaiian torta not a single slide of pinaple..!

Very bad service i order a Hawaiian torta which by nature has to have pinaple in it here or in china and beef meat... but they gave me chicken onions and tomato...! Burn French fries it all felt like a joke.. . Stay away...! Got pictures to prove it.. : (

    Awesome looking tacos

This place fills up 60 days in advance, without fail! When we arrived, we were able to get parking about a block away on the street. We were soon greeted and guided to our seats upon walking in. This is a very small restaurant - only a few tables, not many options for big groups, and some bar seating both inside and outside. I can see why the reservations are in such high demand! We were recommended to get 4-5 small plates, so we decided on the Guacamole Alma, Burrito de Frijoles Puerco, Apache en su Jugo, and Enmolada de Pato. We also shared the hibiscus margarita and Mex 75. The drinks came out first - the hibiscus margarita was so refreshing, light and delicious! We weren't as big fans of the Mex 75 - but if you like smoky drinks this is the one for you. The guacamole came out first - it was tangy and tasty. I will say that the other dishes were a lot more unique. The burrito was a standout - we absolutely loved the homemade sourdough tortilla, one of the best we've ever tasted. The chorizo filling was savory and tasty. The Apache en su Jugo was unique and had a lovely flavor - if you are a beef tartare fan this is a wonderful dish to try! The enmolado de pato came out last and we thoroughly enjoyed the mole and flavor. This is definitely worth checking out. I will say as a Houston native we have several restaurants with similar flavors and slightly lower price tags and wait times, so I am a bit spoiled in that regard. But all in all the service is wonderful, it's a pleasure to try so many different and unique dishes, and the joy of snagging a reservation is worth it!

Place is cozy, right on the corner, very natural earthy interior design, makes it feel like vacation and very different from rest of Denver vibe. Foods are beyond just tasteful, feels like a whole experience with every bite. You typically need 4 to 5 plates for a party of two, each plate is elegantly designed and crafted. It comes out as a pure perfection, the house cocktails are unique above all is the avocado margarita, which is one of the exotic cocktails of all. Staff are extremely professional, not too friendly, not too cold, just the right amount of politeness to make one comfortable. For my fellow Denver folks, you have to visit this place to experience contemporary Mexican dishes, which, by the way, most of them taste more towards a comfortable level of spicy.

The food was delicious! We got $2 chips and salsa off the happy hour menu and the queso con soyrizo (not on HH menu) which was served with warm tortillas. Honestly we probably didn't need all that because the tacos were so good I could've just filled up on more of the tacos, but still was a great meal! I ordered the lengua, pastor, and taco special (breaded shrimp). They were all so good. Think taco quality of a good street taco spot but with the ambiance of a cute tex mex bar. The bartender was great and made a solid marg ($8 on happy hour). You get a great deal on taco Tuesday but I'm sure you'd get great service and quality any day of the week!

Then you are driving the neighborhood hoping to find a spot. Finally parked and walked to the restaurant. Host told me it would be 30 minutes but the actual wait was 50 minutes. Spend so much time parking and then waiting, at what point do you give up and leave empty handed? Restaurant is VERY LOUD. Finally got a table and ordered OFF MENU. Server agreed to substitute shrimp for my enchiladas and they were good! Fresh corn tortillas were the highlight. Ordered tres leches cake and enjoyed it too. Was a nice meal but just not worth all the hassle.

But this was Monday evening and we were seated immediately. Our server said that we had 5 minutes left for Happy Hours--thank you!!--so ordered Caliente Margaritas and appetizers. The nachos were delicious--and messy! The Margaritas were as well. I had a nonalcoholic Athletic Brewing Company Cerveza Atletica (Mexican style copper). There were several other NA cocktails and beers available as well. We were all very pleased with our entrees. They were all luscious. Two of us are vegetarian and there were plenty of choices. I had Crispy Avocado Tacos, which came with black beans, and a side of Street Corn--both great choices. My friend had quesadillas and Potato Flautas , which I tasted and almost wish I had ordered as well. Our carnivore gentleman partners were also very happy, with one of them choosing a sampler, "Perdida's 'Best Of' Plate." Perdida is a great new addition to the Wash Park area.
