The area it is in is a strip mall so there are other things around to take a look at. On one visit, my friend wanted to know the status of an order she had placed, and if the shop could change the name on her order. The guy behind the counter helped change the name no problem. He was super efficient and even checked if there was anything else that needed to be altered in the system on the shop's end. I thought this was really rad. They have the standard comic book store items. It is not huge, but it is well organized and they're willing to order any books they do not have in stock already. Stop in if you're in the area.

Unfortunately the experience was pretty disappointing. The two gentlemen up front seemed much more focused on packing online orders than interacting with customers in the store. When I asked a few simple questions about where certain products were located, they seemed irritated rather than helpful. It made the environment feel pretty unwelcoming, which was surprising given the reputation this place has. Because of that, I probably won't be returning.

They have pretty much every bestseller; they do sell some new books too which tend to cost about as much as they would at any commercial bookstore but obvs buying a used copy can save you a bit. They do buy books and media materials but know you won't get much (around 50% of the book's selling price assuming it's in excellent condition seems to be the pattern I've noticed). The staff are always really helpful and knowledgeable. They have plenty of parking too. Will mention I have noticed the location on N Lamar tends to have more books in general (it's bigger!) but as a South Austin native I'm glad to have a location down here.

I remember when they sold records and magazines, and while the post-pandemic version leans more into books, gifts, and coffee, the heart of the place hasn't changed. It's still a space that invites you to wander, discover, and hang out. There's something special about its scale and presence as it stands as one of the largest and most iconic independent bookstores in Texas, but never loses that personal, neighborhood feel. Still one of my favorite places to spend time.

If they don't they will do their best to order it for you. Love shopping place where the people working really want to be there. The folks here have a passion for what they do and it comes across in volumes when they are assisting customers.
