What an experience! I purchased a slightly used 2024 Capita BOAF board, and the shop shipped it the very next day. Unfortunately, USPS lost my dream board (yes... they had one job!). After waiting a month, the shop stayed in constant communication and was incredibly kind throughout the entire process. Even though the situation was completely out of their control, they offered a full refund. They also gave me the option to upgrade for a small additional cost to a brand-new 2026 BOAF at a great discount. Both options were thoughtful and more than fair. I've been coming to Play It Again Sports (PIAS) since they first opened their Soquel location in the early 90's. PIAS is generally known throughout the area as being a solid place to come for your sports and fitness needs. One of the biggest differences between here and other sports stores, is that they feature new and used items! This is a great way to shop on a budget if you're looking to save some money, or buying for multiple kids / sports. They have gear and equipment for all major sports. For example, if you're looking for baseball equipment, they have several racks of baseball bats, plus baseball gloves, balls, helmets, catcher's gear, and even raglan style baseball tees and socks in many colors to accommodate whatever team your kid gets drafted to. They of course have other sports stuff for basketball, soccer, football, pickleball, and even lots of outdoor games for parties, picnics, and beach outings! There's also an entire downstairs basement type area that has gym / workout equipment . Everything from weights and dumbbell sets, to punching bags, to treadmills and ellipticals. The staircase is a little small, so be careful when going up or down. It had been a long time since I'd stepped into PIAS, so we thought it would be fun to stroll through on a recent trip to have breakfast nearby. The staff we all saw were younger looking dudes, but friendly and attentive. Somebody approached us when we were wandering downstairs to ask if we needed any help, and to not hesitate to ask if we did. It was fun to walk around and see all the different sports equipment and games they had. The space is relatively small, but is PACKED with stuff. There are so many factors that keep me coming back to play it again sports whenever I'm looking for a piece of gym equipment...price and selection. This particular location excels in both. Normally when buying fitness equipment it's tough to find what I am looking for, because most of the stuff I find is low quality at most sporting goods stores. However, after making my way through the myriad of gear in their fitness section, I found the lower half of this store chocked full of exercise bikes (which what I was looking for) and that fit my budget, WOW! I found a nice Force USA exercise bike, it was used and looks like the previous owner barely used it. After testing it, I knew it was coming home with me, as usual I left a very happy customer. I am not a Yelp reviewer by habit. Only exceptional things will inspire me to write something. Today was just such a day. I called ahead and I spoke with James-- my son had a massive growth spurt (8.5 inches!) in the last calendar year and I needed to replace pretty much everything related to his ski gear. James was incredibly thoughtful, knowledgeable, patient and informative. With confidence that a 90-minute drive was warranted, I headed north and was welcomed by a wonderful ski technician named Dylan. Dylan helped get us fitted and provided knowledge and patience and positive attitude. We walked out with a mix of new and used gear that was all top-notch. I don't think I have had a better retail experience in my 58 years of life then I did today. Play it Again Sports brought a unique combination of excellent selection and helpful, knowledgeable staff who were clearly proactively rooting for my son and I to have the very best possible experience. It was clear that their motivation was not only about the sales experience, but actively thinking about their own experiences on the mountain and being 13 years old, in a shared desire to make sure that my son fell in love with a sport and did not have equipment challenges that caused him to sour on the prospect. Not to mention the fact that the price was exceptionally reasonable for the quality of gear that was available. Our kids grow quick and they barely use their stuff before that no longer fits so why not take advantage of that? Wow, just wow. I wandered in, hoping against hope that they might have a totally summer seasonal item that generally is nowhere to be found, especially in the month of December. Reef shoes for walking on rocks, attempting not to be beyond miserable doing so. Technically, I am old, shocker I know, so normally I'm very, very used to being ... UMMmm how do I put this delicately? Ignored. Gray hair, glasses, a little disheveled, you know the look. Probably one of your grandparents, Ish. So I make my request, the guy happily goes down into the bowels of the basement (since it is a summer item) and comes back with a selection for me to choose from. A selection. He must've actually listened to me regarding my size as the cutest pair I've ever seen, on earth, colorful, festive, not just in black, fit me perfectly. I truly didn't realize how I'm so used to just getting "the look" (that blank stare that makes me realize I have no idea how to explain what I'm looking for clearly ). I thank everybody profusely, paid and left. I wish I was actually physically active and did things outdoors so I could figure out more stuff that I could buy there. I love Mom & Pop retailers . This is my SPOT i love this store with a passion. Nice selection of darts and billiards equipment. With covid 19 all bars and billiards are closed. So during quarantine I bought myself a pool table and over the past months I have been buying a ton of accessories. I would rather come here than give my money to a chain store like: Dicks sporting goods or Big 5. They have a good selection of various sports equipment. I use to come here a lot when I was a kid. I'm not sure if Tom Frankle still works here, but the staff has definitely changed since my last visit.. The service is still unbeatable, if you can't find what you are looking the staff members are eager and willing to help. Some of the big stores have more stuff, but if you can get the same stuff cheaper why not? So I suggest you shop here and support a local small business like Play it again sports. This place is awesome! I went in during the summer to search for a snowboard, and one of the employees helped my mom and I figure out which size worked. This was during off season so the snow gear was on a different floor, but I really like the concept of Play it Again Sports. Especially for those just beginning new activities, it's a wonderful resource if you aren't trying to drop a ton of money on new gear that you may or may not use in the future. At the beginning of January I left my Pickleball Paddle at Skypark in Scott's Valley. I had a lot of people looking out for it. Great store and staff! We upgraded our home gym with a rowing machine and a spin-bike. Also were able to sell back our old stationary bike, which was fantastic. They were helpful, navigating us through all the equipment and choices they have, pros and cons. No one pressed us to buy or what to buy. But instead helped us make a more informed decision, and only because we asked for their input. Everyone was genuine, from the sales person, to the manager, to the two delivery men. Mom and pop joints seem to be a trend with my reviews this month. So the BF got rid of his original tower power (pull up/ab tower) but then realized he made a mistake once he started getting into calisthenics/old school work out routines. Oops.... Not wanting to spend a grip of money on a new piece of gym equipment he went here. The local television always has their ads about great customer service and decent prices on used equipment. The commercials lived up to the hype. The BF spent a while over there but came back victorious. He was super happy with his purchase and the person who worked with him similar to Courtney's experience was patient and took the time to go over all options.
