I am so impressed with this particular Rip curl store. I purchased items at a Rip Curl Store and they did not work out so I returned them receiving a gift card. I saw the wetsuit I wanted online and attempted to purchase it with my gift card. It would not work. Upon calling A customer service number I found online, they were very helpful but unfortunately I had an in-store gift card and to purchase items online you need an online gift card. Very frustrating considering it was a bigger item I purchased. Anyways I went to the Rip curl store on the west side and they did not want to help me at all. The girl at the register was very nice but upon calling their store manager they were told they could not help me. I called the customer service number back and despite his efforts he was not able to help me resolve this. He said to go into another retail store and perhaps they will be more helpful. I went into the Rip curl store on 41st Ave. and I was immediately blown away with the helpful attitudes of the staff. Keenan I hope I am spelling his name correctly did an incredible job. He got my phone number and said he would talk to the regional manager and get back to me. I received a call that afternoon. He said to come down and they would take care of me. I went today and Keenan did just as he said he would. I am so impressed with his customer service skills and his attention to detail as well as his eagerness to want to make a situation right. Those are all things that any employer would want to have and an employee and Rip curl is very lucky to have Keenan on their staff. Now I am so excited that I can buy the wetsuit I need to get out in the ocean and paddleboard! Lately I've been coming here a lot. My boyfriend took up surfing and here I'd come with him to buy wax, browse boards and look at all the gear. Then when I took up surfing this place became an ideal location to rent a wetsuit and board. I liked it immediately. The staff is always super friendly. Before I surfed I'd browse the girls clothes and the staff was always nice and didn't judge me for obviously not being a surfer. Each time I came to rent gear from the cashier girl to the board/wetsuit sizer everyone was informative, super friendly and great. I love the selection of cute clothes too. I've picked up a cute pair of sandals for $12 and a jacket/sweater I love and is great quality for $60. The girl clothes are just super cute! They also have a selection of boards, leashes, wax, boys clothes etc etc - but I'm not super knowledgable with that yet. RENTING: The boards are $20 to rent and are in fair condition. The wetsuits are $5 to rent and are in good to fair condition. I felt very comfortable renting from them and you simply fill out a simple form, leave a CC card number for accidentals and off you go. It's easy, affordable and within walking distance to Pleasure Point. It's a great shop! Clean, nice, great selection and a super friendly staff. read more

After visiting with a friend in SC for the weekend I decided to take a stroll down 41st and hit up Rip Curl for some new clothes. I've been to Rip Curl a few times before, but never at the 41st location. Right away I was greeted by the employees, some local guys who ended up being super friendly. They sell all kinds of surf/beach attire here including clothing, surf boards, waxes, and accessories all with a good amount of variety as well. I ended buying two really nice shirts for about $35, a lot cheaper than some of the other surf shops in the area. I didn't drive here, but from a quick glance of the outside it looks like they have plenty of parking if you ever need it. If I had to sum up Rip Curl I would say it's all around a great high quality store. I really couldn't find anything wrong with it. read more

Best wetsuit and wetsuit warranty in the business. Allow me to explain: I purchased wetsuit for New Years. Right around February I ripped the wetsuit at home moving furniture around (huge gash down the center). Completely my fault, completely not expecting the 1 year warranty to cover something so obviously not caused by a surfing situation. They didn't ask any questions, glanced at my receipt to see if it was purchased within the year, took the wetsuit and offered me a "loner suit" to use while it was out for service. They had it repaired within 2 weeks. It wasn't only repaired but it came back with the higher end interior lining!!! Rip Curl has won me over for life. Service like this is what makes companies truly stand out. Thank you Rip Curl, please don't change your service mentality.... as being unexpectedly surprised is something so few companies still do anymore. read more

Had to give a quick and well-deserved shoutout to the folks at this Ripcurl shop. Staff is very friendly and helpful. Wetsuits are affordable (under $200) and have a 3-year warranty. They also rent out boards for $25 (same day) and have an even better deal for board+wetsuit rental combos. Location is a 2 min walk from the beach--so perfect!! I also saw the guy and girl that helped me pick out my wetsuit on the waves that same day and they were kind enough to ask me how the wetsuit was treating me! read more

The store is absolutely amazing! First of all, I went on a road trip with 13 friends and we wanted to surf since it was sunny and nice. One of the salesman actually rent us the wetsuit and the board $20/person for the whole day!! He even told us which beach to go to since we were beginners and gave all the safe advices possibles for us Europeans that aren't use to the Pacific. Nicest person in Santa Cruz actually, the group never forgot him and we still talk about him when reminiscing on SC! read more

Love this place!! Me and my boyfriend are from out of town and my bf was looking for a new pair of surfing gloves. Since we weren't familiar with the area we checked out a few different surf shops to compare prices before he purchased a pair. We ran into a few places with ok prices but crappy service and employees that didn't know about anything. This place by far has the best customer survice and their employee are knowledgable on all their products. My brother visited me last month and we decided to go surfing. I did not expect such a high level of customer service. The staff there is the nicest! My brother is pretty good at surfing. When I told them his level of surf, they kindly offered him to rent a used board that was for sale! (obviously if the board ended broken, we would have paid for it). They took out the price tag, waxed it and handed it to him. We could not believe it! I would recommend this shop to anyone whether you are experimented or not. I hope to be back soon! This review is overdue, but HUGE shoutout to Candra. I came here in March after reading all the great reviews, and I was not disappointed. I walked in with very little knowledge about shortboards (I was only ever able to get up a couple times), but knew I wanted to dedicate time to improve. I was able to buy an awesome used board for $250, a wetsuit for $175, fins for $40, wax thrown in for free, and a 20% discount to top it off. Candra was INCREDIBLY knowledgable and friendly. One of the nicest people I've ever met. I left so stoked and hit the waves right after. Definitely go here for all your surfing needs. read more

I used these guys to rent a wet suit and they were awesome. The first suit didn't quite work for me..it was a surfing wetsuit so a bit too buoyant for swimming with a bit of a restriction around the shoulders. Expressed my concern and they swapped it out for a thinner wetsuit that was perfect for my needs (open water swim in the ocean). It kept me warm all while allowing the perfect amount of sink in the water and range of motion. I loved it so much I asked if they would sell it to me, which they did. I got ths fantastic wet suit that was pretty much new for about $100! The guys in the shop were super nice and welcoming, even to this newbie. I wouldn't hesitate recommending this shop to anyone!! After years of living by and playing in the ocean I finally decided to give surfing a whirl. I called up a few shops and they all told me that Cowells was flat and suggested I go on over to 38th so I decided to rent from Rip Curl which is about a half mile (scenic) walk from the break. Pros: Nice shop, good selection of "stuff" for it's fairly small size (surf and skateboards, clothes, gear, suits, etc,) ability to rent boards and wet suits, very friendly staff, welcoming to newbies, gave me some free pointers (keep in mind 2 hour lessons in SC are about $80, so free advice is money in the bank), will keep your stuff behind the counter while you surf. A board and wet suit for the day was only $25, compared to ~$40 at many other local shops. Cons: All of the longer boards were rented out by 3pm (on a weekday), so they gave me a board that was one foot too short for my weight. They were also all out of XXL wet suits and don't carry XXXL suits (although with my recent weight loss that turned out to be a non-issue). Frankly by 3pm the rental shack was pretty much empty. I was able to change INTO the wet suit indoors, but they don't allow wet wetsuits in the indoor changing room, so they have everyone line up outside and change in the dark shed. If you're not really prepared for a public change that can be kind of awkward but I suppose that's what you get at $25. They also want all of the rental gear back by 6:45 which feels a little early for summer. Pro Tips (for renters): Get there early while they still have a good selection of boards and suits. Bring your own towel and wear tight fitting bathing suit under your clothes for a quick and painless undressing at the end of the day. 38th ave is VERY friendly to beginners. Everyone out there was super cool and some folks even helped me out with my paddle strokes and such. Grab a slice next door at Pleasure Pizza when you're done. Final Comments: I started my review with a full five stars, but removed one star for running out of big guy sized boards, and another for running out of / not carrying big guy sized wet suits. If they run out and you're willing to walk a little farther, there are some more rental shops up along 41st. Also, their waiver says something about skateboard rentals, so I'm assuming they rent those too? read more

Great and friendly service! We are new in surfing and diving so we needed some "gear" to start. The staff help us from beggining to end with a smile and great sense of humor... The shop was well taken care of, lots of variety and even the non surfers get a great attention and service. I even witness the generosity of his owner when he helped some young surfers to get what they needed for less money. Now, that is something you don't see very often!
