I never knew that I was flat footed and compensating with wearing shoes that were too big for me. I will now only buy wide shoes that are a size smaller. I wish I'd caught the name of the salesperson who assisted me because she was wonderful and I'd like to thank her. If you're a brunette with an athletic build and I'm guessing between the ages of 25-35, I'm talking to you. Thank you. Seriously....thank you!!!! After years of buying whatever they have on sale at a store that doesn't specialize in athletic shoes (usually Costco), I finally decided to treat myself to real shoes. After measuring my foot and arch and analyzing my walk, she selected the Berry Superfeet insoles and 3 potential pairs for my specific needs. Sometimes what you need and what you want don't work together. What I want is ultra light-weight, has a sole that's as thin as possible without losing durability, a shoe that let my toes feel like they're gripping the ground like I'm barefoot. The 1st pair are a cute grey and purple pair that were ok, but one of my heels kept slipping. Out comes pair #2 and they are NEON pink, which to me is heinous, hideous, horrendous or any other bad H word you can think of. Crap, I think, I hope these things aren't comfortable. I try them on. They're amazing. I walk around in them. Even more amazing. Oh man, please don't love these shoe, please let them be $200. I look on the display wall and, of course, they're $10-20 cheaper than the other 2 pairs. I try them without the insoles. Yup, still comfortable. I cannot justify form over function. I don't even bother to try on pair #3. I leave from the store and head straight to a golf course. These shoes, unlike every other pair I own that give me blisters in creative places until I've broken them in, are SUPER comfortable. I've worn them on the mountain trails in Los Gatos that I frequent and my feet have never been so comfortable. She really did help me find the perfect pair of shoes and insoles for my needs. The staff was especially knowledgeable, and courteous. What a combo! The young woman who assisted us, was lovely. She measured and assessed my sons feet, asked him some questions about preference, then started bringing out some great choices. She helped for him with orthotics and allowed him a, "test run" outside in the shoes to make sure they were as comfortable at work as they were in the store. Outstanding! Bought some new shoes yesterday and I could not have been more pleased. The store has recently moved and is now located and is just around the corner on Soquel. XMy first impression of the store was the amazing inventory they had with all of the major brands well represented. In addition they have an excellent stock of running apparel and accessories. But to me the major difference is they actually take time to measure your feet and show a 3 dimensional representation of your foot. This gives a much more accurate picture of the foot and can help to indicate any problems that may exist in your current footwear. It also helps the salesperson recommend the best shoes for you. I would like to give a huge shout out to Amber. Not only was she highly professional and knowledgeable about running shoes,she was extremely helpful and personable. I felt bad going in to look at walking shoes 20 minutes before they closed but was taken care of. I've been to a number of their locations around the Bay Area, and the staff are just as friendly here as anywhere else--greeted when you enter, and always offering their help in a genuine manner. Like most other specialty running stores, the selection is small in the apparel and accessory department, but they carry the essentials. They stock most popular running shoe brands and models. They catch flack for selling at retail, but they do provide a lot of helpful services that you can't get online (e.g., getting fitted for shoes). Their store policy is also generous, letting you try the shoes out for 30 days, and accepting them (even if worn) for an exchange or refund. I have been buying shoes and apparel from Aptos Fleet Feet for many, many years. We have a beach house in Aptos and come often with family and friends and inevitably purchase multiple pairs of shoes because we have loved the service we have received. As a marathon runner, good shoes are important to me and today I stopped by with the intent to purchase a couple of pairs of shoes for training. I was completely disappointed in the treatment I received. Apparently, due to COVID, purchases are appointments only, which I applaud, however, I was informed of this quite rudely, not offered a mechanism for making an appointment other than to check the website. Sadly, after ten years of giving business and thousands of dollars spent at this store, I will not be back. I feel like I was not treated as a serious customer. read more

I'll admit it, I normally just buy my running shoes at the Nike outlet, or if I happen to see a pair on sale somewhere. Even when I came in here with a friend, I was immediately drawn to the stack of sale shoes.... but I resisted! I allowed Mr. Shoe Expert to analyze my old running shoes to see where they had worn down and watch me jog around the store (I believe it's 'jogging' or 'yogging.' it might be a soft j. I'm not sure but apparently you just run for an extended period of time! I think I cursed myself when I announced early on that I don't believe in paying $130 for running shoes, because the pair I absolutely fell in love with were, yep, exactly $130. They were slammed when I walked in the door. Throngs of women were milling about, checking out the merchandise and getting their packets for the big race the next day. I wasn't sure if I would be able to have any help, and I truly needed some. So, I asked the front desk if anyone could help me and this really nice, cheerful man came to my aid. After informing him of my issues, he did some trigger point massage on my calves, measured my feet and arch length, and then chose shoes that he thought would be best for me. He had me try them on and run for him back and forth in each pair so he could assess my gait and I could feel them on my feet in action. I dodged women and children as I trotted back and forth. The man even held my purse for me because I didn't feel comfortable leaving it lying about! I was concerned that I was taking up too much of his time while there were so many other customers that could use his attention, but he assured me that his priority in that moment was helping me find the best pair of shoes for me, and the others in the store would be attended to with as much consideration. I was so impressed! Not only did I get the shoes, but I wore them in the race the very next day and didn't get a single blister! I was referred here by my acupuncturist, Adam White, in Capitola, himself an avid runner. I have had a lot of knee problems in recent years which have really curtailed my distance. I'm lucky to get in 3 miles before my IT band syndrome kicks in. I was impressed by the fitting, the gait analysis, as well as the young sales associate's product knowledge, enthusiasm and confidence. I am loving the shoes and the inserts that I bought--I had an hour long run on Saturday morning, which was fantastic, especially since a lot of it was on hard surfaces. One minor issue; my cool new running socks developed holes in the toes! So I'm returning them...and I'm betting they'll be great about it, if my experience of their customer service is any indication. This is the only place I will go for running shoes. Over a year ago, I had serious plantar fasciitis in my left heel from walking long distances. I thought it might be my shoes. My orthopedic surgeon said to just stop walking so much :( The wonderful sales rep helped me find the right pair, let me try them on and walk outside in them as much as I wanted, and also gave me some tips and stretches for my heel. He also have me some really valuable advice about squeaky orthotics (wax 'em!). Flash forward one year, and I have advanced from walking to running thanks to yoga and stretching to help my tight leg muscles. My New Balance have worn out. I want new ones for my birthday. Rather than struggle to figure out which new version of my shoe is the correct one, and figure out the right size and width, my husband was able to go down to Fleet Feet, where they had my info in the computer and order the correct new version of my shoe, just like that. In preparation for my first trail race I needed handheld hydration. Sales rep honest and very helpful and encouraging, helped me find the cheapest version of what I needed. If you haven't bought a pair of running shoes in a while, are just getting started or have never bought shoes at an actual running store, go here and they'll totally hook you up. Bring your old running shoes so they can check the tread and figure out what kind you need. They analyze your gait and tell you if your a pronator, and all the things a good running shoe store should do. They lose a star for spotty service - I've been in here a couple times where I've felt ignored. Beware, locally-owned specialty shop, I can take my business to the Internet! UPDATE: Huh, so I went in here some more over the last year and got great service, so I'm revising my former 3-star review to a four-star review and no longer threatening to take mah bidness to the Net. I completed the training program for the 10k. It was well organized. We received weekly emails for meet up spots. Plus, the price of the program is a bargain for all that it includes: optional training orientations, long sleeve performance running shirt, weekly free Gu, give aways from Brooks... Plus, a great group of people to encourage me to train and get to my race day injury free. Russ our coach/owner has such a non-intimidating approach. I had an absolutely fantastic experience here. Upon walking in, I was immediately greeted by the owner (Russ, I believe) and his son. I was on the hunt for a good pair of walking shoes, and wasn't sure if they could help me, since they were geared towards runners. They assured me that they could find something for me. I was really well taken care of, and Russ took his time to make sure I found something I really liked. I also really appreciated that he explained why he was doing what he was doing; why he measured my feet standing up and sitting down, why he watched me walk, etc. I'm a science student so I enjoy getting that technical explanation of why he was doing what he was doing. The store was completely empty when I went in, so I'm not sure how my experience would have differed if it had been busy. I have a feeling that Russ would've been just as accomodating and thorough had I not been the only customer. Overall, it was a very personal and fun experience. I normally hate shoe shopping because it feels like the salespeople are just trying to get you into a pair of shoes and get you out. My experience at Fleet Feet made me feel like I was buying from friends, not impersonal salespeople who were just trying to make a quota. There is no doubt in my mind that I'll continue to support Fleet Feet by going to them for any of my exercise needs. read more

Prices are probably on par with the market, but if I'm willing to pay $$150-$175, I feel like there should be more staff (and space) to handle more than two customers at a time. They measure your foot digitally with a little podium that has 10 or 12 cameras, and then they go over it with you in detail. They also send you the report. They fit me in shoes that are perfect for my feet. Finally shoes with enough cushion for my flat feet that stop me from falling to far forward. My balance is now back where it should be, more of my heels than the ball of my foot. Staff is extremely knowledgeable and friendly. Most shoes range around 100 to 130 or so.
