Legitimately one of the only local skate shops around town. Great selection, great vibes, great prices.

Love this place. Staff is great, selection is also great. I highly recommend swinging in if you are in Santa Cruz. I've also bought online from them and it always been a great experience. Thanks Skate Works read more

Would give zero stars if it were an option. Bought $175 skates for my daughter. Was told they were leather and would loosen up. My daughter literally wore them for 4 minutes after falling face first because they were so stiff. We found out that they were actually vinyl, not leather, so we went to exchange them and they wouldn't return or exchange them. So they lied to me about the material and then wouldn't do anything after I called them on their lie and attempted to return or exchange them. Will never shop here again. Just another example of a local company that will now lose a sale to online sellers and then they'll complain about the internet ruining their business. Mirror time. read more

This place is amazing and I will be back for more skate gear as I progress. Not gonna lie, I was kinda anxious about going to a skate shop. I'm a total beginner and just was interested in picking up the basics to get started, but was a little not looking forward to people maybe being mean to me because I don't know anything about skating. But you won't find that here! Everyone at the shop is super kind and the woman that helped me pick out a beginner skateboard, safety pads, and a helmet was so amazingly nice! I really appreciated her kindness to me when I wasn't super comfortable and out of my element in picking up a new hobby. Thank you for making the start of this new journey a wonderful experience and making me feel welcome. It really meant a lot and I'll be sure to come back here for more gear! read more

best shop. awesome people. extremely helpful. conveniently located. also good burritos around the corner.

What a fun experience! Extremely knowledgeable and helpful staff, great selection, great prices. And sooooo nice! I am a newbie to roller skating after a 30yr hiatus. I'm still trying to determine if the skates I have are the right fit, and I was encouraged to try on a bunch of roller skates (even though I didn't plan on buying a new pair just yet). I got new Atom Pulse outdoor wheels and new Reds bearings. I learned a lot! Thank you! Here's a pic of my work-in-progress skates--the orange plates are now painted black, just need to change the cushions for a more pleasing color. Exited to try out my new setup! read more

Tuesday was beautiful so I decided to go skating on west cliff for the first time in a hot minute. I went to put on my skates and realized I never changed my wheels from outdoor to indoor. I thought my day was ruined until I remembered skate works. Pulled up, and it took less than 10 minutes for skate works employee "Kevin" to change out my wheels. Absolutely fantastic, saved my day. Shout out to Kevin gonna name my first born after him. read more

Sweet skate shop in Santa Cruz. The two guys working the store were helpful. It's not intimidating at all so this is the place to check our if you're getting into skateboarding or rollerskating. I was pretty surprised they had a good selection of quality Suregrip rollerskates in stock. They also have a wide range of protective knee/elbow/wrist pads. Ample amount of skateboards to also choose from whether you're into skating at the park, street, long boarding, or cruising. I ended up getting some Moxi Fundae rollerskate wheels and bearings. I could've installed them onto my rollerskates myself at home but they said they could do the installations for no additional cost. Within a couple minutes my skates were ready to roll. read more

Excellent customer service! Very clean organized store. I noticed discounts around the shop, which is always really nice! It was pretty quiet too, not many people there at the time we stopped in, which I love. The guy working recommended us to local skateparks by name, which we checked out and they were totally awesome! read more

Could not be the NICEST people ever. I know nothing about skateboards or the parts required but I was the errand runner for the day. Ten minutes of FaceTime and questions my SO got the parts he needed for his long board and usual skateboard. Additionally I walked away with some SUPER SWEET rollerskate wheels that glow in the dark and are smooth like walking on clouds. The guy helped me with my wheels and totally explained all of the things. Not only did I get the parts, for the SOs skateboards, but I learned a lot in the process. Again- SUPER PATIENT and did not get visibly annoyed with my million questions etc. Small and mighty store with a ton of things ceiling to floor. I will definitely but shopping here first before other local skate shops. Thank you again for your kindness, patience, and honesty! read more

Gotta love the crew at Skateworks! As long time customer, I hadn't visited in many years, and was glad to see them still thriving in their small shop near the Boardwalk. Most memorable stop in Santa Cruz. My son wanted a custom built skateboard and this is where TO GO! Jason and his daughter were so helpful and welcoming. We laughed about how little I knew about the skating world, obviously when you're from the Midwest! I can't say enough about how awesome this place is and I will never forget the memories we made here as a family. Thank you:) little perk: we met the mom of another famous skater while shopping! Definitely the place to go for all your skating needs. read more

The owner and his staff are so incredibly friendly! The owner was so helpful to me and getting me set up so I can get my skates. The sizing on the websites for moxi-Riedell are confusing and he had me come down and to try on some sizes he had in stock. Shockingly I was usually a 7.5-8 street shoes and wore a 6 in skate so I'm stoked I came him to get fitted. My skates are awesome, support your local shops when ever you can! I've been a long time customer of Skateworks, and am happy to say that it started out great and has continued to improve. The owner Bill is an awesome guy, knowledgeable, helpful, and friendly. Skateworks is a great one stop shop for skateboards and quad roller skates, and is supportive of both communities. This is a Santa Cruz small business that I'm proud to support and will recommend to anyone in need of skateboards, skates, or gear. A++ 100 Stars!! read more

I came to Skateworks to buy Moxi skates. Bill was incredible, and helped me find the perfect pair. Bill is super affable, and I could have stayed and chatted for hours. Bill was awesome. He knew what I wanted the minute I said hi! He opened at 11 and had people already in the store and lined up wanting his attention. He helped everyone with a smile and friendly conversation. He only had a few "trendy" roller skates left and I was a lucky girl when the size 10 red suede Jacksons fit like a glove. I really wanted the blue wheels and was hesitant to ask because he was so busy but........ guess what?? With a little patience on my end and his great attention to customer service, I was out the door with my new red suede skates and awesome blue wheels. Oh yes, I bought a helmet too. I am 40+. I recommend this shop to anyone looking to buy anything for skate boards and roller skates. Bill and his team are top notch! read more

I went on a Tuesday and it was closed. The new COVID hours are Monday Wednesday Friday 12-5pm.

The reason I'm writing this review is the customer service. From the moment I walked in until I left, amazing service. I wish I remembered the person's name who helped me, if you see this post, message me so I can shout you out. I'm a semi regular skater (skate everyday but not very well) but I've never gotten a big 10" 80s style board and came in to get one. Their selection isn't huge, but it's all really good stuff. Finally picked an amazing deck and then the employee was able to help and recommend the trucks, wheels, and even rail placement. They offered to set it up for me and I couldn't wait to ride it so I said yes! They set it up perfectly and this set up is my new favorite. Other than the customer service that I could keep going on about... the deck selection was good, sizes included 10"-7.5ish" and also some kid sized boards (completes), and a good selection of cruisers/longboards. They also sell some of their own skate works boards that look awesome. Good selection of clothing, got my kids some sweatshirts. Really cool skate works t shirts. Awesome selection of pads, they have them all. All of the good trucks, wheels, hardware etc, they have it. And they had my daughter eyeing some really cool vintage style roller skates. I will definitely be coming back here the next time I need some skate supplies. read more

I've been to Santa Cruz twice and have stopped in at Skateworks both times. My first time, I was set up with a pretty cool deck and some hardware by one of their knowledgeable staff members. First off, go Skate Works!! Now then, I visited the store with a beautiful lady friend 1.5 months ago. We walked in and Bill greeted us right away. He carried on with what he was doing and let us explore the store. It was my first time buying a longboard so I needed extra time on my own; he checked in saw that and gave us more time. Finally I made up my mind on a longboard and proceeded to the build. Bill is loaded with information and detail, good insight overall. I bought a Comet longboard for cruising and so far I am very satisfied! A month later I visit the store with my longboarding mate. He buys a board with the same satisfaction I have. We plan to visit soon! Bill deserves good business, let's bring it to him! read more

I would definitely recommend this place to anyone and I will come back for all my skate needs. read more

Skateworks - Helped me build my first board and helped my boyfriend build his - Skate Shops Near Me - Santa Cruz, California

The owner here is so, so nice. My awesome coworkers bought me a skate/gear bag as a going-away present, and I was super pumped. Unfortunately, I got it home to discover that my skates didn't really fit in it! (Really, Riedell, you make a skate bag that doesn't fit your skates??? FOR SHAME!) Anyway, after I had explained the situation, the owner even remembered my coworker who had come in to purchase the bag for me. He was really great about letting me bring in my gear and stuff it all into the other bags he had in stock to see which one suited my needs best. When I inquired about Zuca bags, which is the bag I really wanted but didn't see in their store, he called their sister store to see if they had any and if his son (who I think owns the other store) could bring a Zuca bag down to Santa Cruz. I also got to try on a bunch of Derby Skinz and ended up buying a really cute pair. Very, very pleased with my experience here. read more
