What a crook. We went to get 4 day fishing licenses and paid for 4 (cash only per the owner). He printed out a duplicate of one persons and 2 others, so one was missing. He blamed it on the machine and said he couldn't give us a refund of the one that wouldn't print. He then told us that the fishing tour guide would not care. So we called the tour guide and they let us know that we had to have separate correct licenses or we wouldn't be able to go on the boat. I cannot recommend this place for fishing licenses at all! Save yourself the trouble, and go online. If you choose to go to this place, expect to be taken advantage of. read more

I walked in without a mask since the mandate had been lifted weeks before, and he angrily and hysterically spouted off about anti-vaxer nonsense. Totally blew my $100 shopping vibe; so I left without bothering to tell him if I had been inoculated or not, nor that his stupid face shield without a mask was about worthless for protection. As far as ocean gear goes, they are well stocked, but I have never met someone more rude and stuck up than the guy that runs the place. I have gone in there about a dozen times, and every time the guy has acted like my business is absolutely worthless to him. Anytime after 10am there are always a bunch of drunks loitering around in the front of the store. If you can get what you need before you get to the harbor, do so, otherwise you will be forced to hand over a bunch of money to this kook. The lady that works there has always been really nice, I guess she understands that making your customers feel welcomed is important. The only reason he can get away with being such a prick is because hes the only tackle shop in the harbor. read more

Thanks to Bayside marine for the fact that you will find the right tackle for any salt water fish both inshore, and offshore. The staff is always great on what's biting and they don't mind giving the latest numbers of the area's you will want to fish. I stopped in there for some bait a couple of days ago. My son and I were taking our fishing boat out for the first time. There was an older experienced guy working there and I asked him where to go for halibut. He said "Are you asking for my secret spot" and I said no, that wouldn't be cool but where would you point me. He sent us up north towards Davenport. This is a shop for real fisherman. I buy all my tackle here, and I like going over there to hang out from time to time, cause everyone is super cool, super laid back and down to earth. Especially the owner Todd. Here's what I like about this shop: 1) They don't carry any crap - all product here is solid. 2) They know fishing in the Monterey Bay region like no other shop around. They'll help you out with gear, but also are happy to share advise to help you land some fish. You can ask Todd any question, no matter how stupid. 3) After the boats come in, the shop is filled with salty, buzzed fisherman, most of which I gather are Todd's buddies. Consequently, lots of strange, eccentric, interesting folks hang out here and do some salty shit talking to each other. But don't let the saltiness fool you. Everyone here is super cool to hang out with and will help you out. They talk a lot of shit, and tell a lot of jokes. They don't seem serious, but then ask them any question about fishing, and you'll realize just how serious they are about fishing. 4) Simply put, they are cool dudes. Of all the tackle shops around, these are the guys I'd most like to go fishing with, or have a beer with, or run into on the docks. For this reason, I like giving them my money. We stayed on East Cliff Drive this trip, close to the marina-most things were within biking distance which was fun! Bob made some early bait runs and I'm not sure where he picked the bait up but we did make a special trip to the marina to visit Bayside so he could window shop! I purchased a new reel and it had some issues after a few trips. Todd had it returned to the manufacturer and it was repaired and returned within the week no cost A+ for customer service. Must be tough at times being a female working in a male dominated business. She actually has a lot of knowledge and gives out great information about fishing in Monterey Bay.
