This location has a pretty good selection of second hand women's clothing and accessories at mostly decent prices. The "trendier" brands have a significant price markup, especially purses. Their items are in generally good/great condition, as each article is hand picked by their staff. More expensive than your typical thrift store, but still significantly less expensive than retail prices. Plus, the selection is curated with current trends in mind. I was satisfied with my experience selling to them a few months ago. I obviously would have preferred they'd have taken more of the clothes I brought in, but I can't really complain--I'd rather they take some than none at all lol. The selling process is simple and convenient: 1) Add your name to the waitlist using the iPad at the front counter (you'll need your ID for this step) 2) Decide whether you'd like to hang around the store to wait for your items to be picked through or receive a text when they're done (you must pick up by the end of the day) 3) Hand off your items to the staff in exchange for a receipt you'll need to present when you return In my experience, the selection process doesn't take long at all, even with multiple people ahead of you in line. There are frequent sellers that will be at the door right when they open, so I'd give some buffer time after opening to potentially not have any wait time at all. Also keep in mind you will need to take back the items they choose not to buy. The store buys your items at a percentage (I believe it's 20-30%) of what they'll price it at. They can give cash, debit, PayPal, or Venmo. Overall, I think this place is great if you're looking to make SOME money back from items you no longer want. You definitely won't be optimizing the value of your sale, but it's a convenient and low effort option for sure. read more

I got me some Internal thrift shop vibes and found some neat stuff a few shirts and some work pants from carhart... it was a win for me .. dropped some stuff off- it's not about the money for me - it's about helping other people with the stuff I couldn't use anymore... prices are eh ? Reasonable ? But you can find some gems - staff is nice and it's on the side of the building. Plenty of parking , it's on a slight incline so take your time ..going up from your car.. read more

I'm writing this review more so for the selling your clothes portion. I came here about 2 to 3 times sometimes with brand new clothes, new perfumes, and decent looking things. I don't expect for all of my things to be taken, but compared to a lot of of the things they have out on the floor, the clothes I bring in is actually pretty nice. They took two Lululemon leggings and gave me $14 for them. One of the leggings still had the original tag and never worn. Not sure if the person buying the clothes is super picky. Or they buy more stuff that looks worn lol. And the things I brought in is stuff that they were asking for, not that they were off-season or anything. Overall I won't go back to try and sell anything. Staff is okay, not the friendliest either. read more

Came here with a load of amazing shoes - branded from Tory Burch, Stuart Weitzman, Zara and such. There was an entire bag filled with clothing. They wasted three hours of my precious time and took nothing. The stuff for sale was also gross, the shop smelled old and the clothing and shoes were not in good condition. Never going back or recommending them. Yuck. read more

Have been coming here with my teen when we need some last minute clothes. We can always find something. It's quite organized and good selection. read more

Very friendly staff. Selling items is easy with check in kiosk at the front, and also gives wait list with time to wait.

Wow! Gross, dirty clothes for sale.. I found a shirt that hard dark atm put stains and food stains across the chest...$16, same price as the other shirts.. seriously? Then I found jeans caked with dirt on the hem.. Oh hell no. I left and won't be going back. read more

The staff was super sweet and helpful. Dropped off a bunch of clothes and came back to them wanting to take 5 articles of clothing for $11. I'm not sure who sets the prices of clothes when you drop off but it seems that they really low ball the amount of money they will give you which is odd because they charge waaaay more money for the clothes when put on the racks. I would come back here to shop but not to drop off. read more

My first time here. Went here to sell clothes. They didn't choose anything I brought and I am not even sure if they went through my bags. I even called the day before I drove out to this location and the person who I spoke to never mentioned that they were only accepting certain items. I felt like that information should have been mentioned to me since I called and asked about their policy on selling clothes. Next time I know to ask for what exactly they are looking for when I come in again. The store itself had a really good layout and it was organized. Felt like some of the items were a little overpriced but some items were priced pretty well too. I gave this store a chance because I heard good things about it. Maybe it was just the day I went in. I would give this store another chance in the future and I will update my review. read more

My 12 year old daughter have found a great shopping closet,, can't believe the prices and brands ,, Great selection for teens ,, from banana republican , Aeropostale, Abercrombie and fitch ,, except better prices read more

Nice employees and decent selection. Not a huge selection but if you look you will find good quality pieces. Everything is organized well by color and size. Prices are more than at your typical thrift but you're paying for a nicer thrifting experience imo (organization and cleanliness). Not as many accessories as I was hoping. 4 clean fitting rooms in the back. Left with a baby tee for $8 and a pair of Levi's jeans for $18. The employee at the counter was kind to retag it since the tag had come off. read more

Great store with a solid selection of shoes and other unique finds. The inventory is well-organized, and there are plenty of options to browse through. The only downside is that some of the prices feel a bit high for a thrift store, especially compared to other secondhand shops. Overall, it's still a nice place to visit if you're looking for quality items and a good variety of shoes. read more

DO NOT COME HERE. Employees completely lack customer service skills and manners. second time coming here and its just as terrible as the first. i am greeted when walking in and followed to the counter to sign in for sale of my items. a different girl with black hair in pigtails and lots of facial piercings took over my bins of items and did not know i was the customer of those belongings therefore proceeded to make "jokes" and rude comments to first girl who signed me in about my sale stating she did not want to do it and "30 cents to $3 dollars was best offer take it or leave it" completely unprofessional and just downright rude. i have been going to san jose location before this and will continue to go to platos closet in san jose. june 18th at 8pm. complete waste of time and gas to be treated this way read more

They had a ton to look through! It was amazing and friendly people! I will be coming back!

I'm giving Plato's Closet Pleasanton 5 stars for their service. The new ownership and staff have made this place even more pleasurable to shop and sell my gently used clothing and shoes. Jessica is always so helpful when I need guidance on items that can't be found at nearby stores. I always look forward to coming here! read more

I went to this Plato's closet and they didn't sell any of my clothes at all and I drove so far for no reason they gave me absolutely nothing and they were super rude. read more

Great service and events! Love the vibes at this stores. Have been coming for 10 years here now, and will keep coming back.

So glad this gem is back in our community! Great selection of men's pants, shoes and shirts! Value is good (: Women's section is equally plentiful. Definitely recommend a trip to Pleasanton to support Plato's. Bonus+++ the staff is very kind and the selling process is the same as other locations. Bring your clothes, opt in for a comm style and they pay either cash (before end of day) or store credit if they like your stuff! read more

avesta helped with our transaction and i'd say it was great customer service! so many selections to choose from, i'd highly suggest going here read more

Plato's Closet Pleasanton - Thrift Stores Near Me - Pleasanton, California

Amazing store! Such wonderful selection & helpful kind staff. Thank you so much Platos

Service was great. The prices of the item they gave are fair for the condition. I have sold with them and got more than expected

Love this store ! Very good prices & friendly staff , very much satisfied with my shopping experience

The selection isn't really for me, so I can't comment on that. In the past I've really had nothing but great things to say, but the last few times we've come here it's not been the same at all, the customer service has gone downhill. We walk in, there's several workers here, we saw them, they saw us, no greeting at all. My daughter brought her clothes in to sell and they were just looking at her after she told them she's here to sell them. It was awkward, it would have been nice to provide some direction. Then they told her she has to be here by 5:30 (it was 3:15 when we initially came in) or the clothes would be donated and turned to store credit, ok fair. We got there at 5:20, the box still hadn't been touched and waited for over an hour, I missed an appointment I had. It was just a frustrating experience. I would like to suggest that the store calls when the clothes are ready or have been gone through, and then they should provide a deadline to pickup within the next 24 hours. That would definitely make it a more efficient process. read more

I would leave zero stars for this place if I could. Been coming here for years and only sold clothes once. Was excited when store re-opened after shutting down. No one answers the phone and message details lay out instructions for bringing in gently used items for sale. Message even suggests sending a text, which you will not receive a response. I drove here from Fremont and arrived just three hours after they opened, just to be told that they wouldn't accept anything remainder of the day because they had no cash. I will never come here again. Previous ownership was much more welcoming and accommodating. Do not waste your time or your money here, if you consider either of them valuable. read more

I recently went to Plato's Closet in Pleasanton to sell some gently used items. It started off fine. The sales associate to the time to explain the process. I had 3 clothing items, 2 pairs of shoes, and some semi-precious jewelry. She politely rejected one pair of shoes immediately since they were hiking boots. For the rest, I had to come back in about two hours. She was still polite. I thought everything was fine and came back to the store when I was texted by them. The minute I walk in, something felt off. The original sales associate gave me an odd look. I was then helped by a second sales associate who immediately told me that everything had been rejected and told me what sort of styles were accepted. Her attitude was abrupt and condescending. I was so embarrassed. When I checked my items in the car, I realized all the jewelry that I had been keeping in pouches was carelessly thrown in with the shoes and someone else's messed up watch was in my belongings. I will never go back again. read more
