This is one of our favorite PC's. Good selection of clothes, nice brands and good prices. We got a cool forever 21 bomber jacket, a pile of shirts in good condition, and they had a coach purse for $25, but I didn't buy it because I don't need it, but now I'm remorseful. The employees have always been very friendly- I don't get the petty comments from some posts. We've been here specifically several times, and had stellar service. Seems like there are a lot of whiners that go here trying to get a lot of money for "their used clothes" but they think they deserve practically what they paid for it because the price tag is still on it. (probably shoplifted) But then you rave about the great deals. You can't have it both ways. Using race and color is just labeling yourself. If you think you'll get more for your tag go into the city they won't give you more just for the tag. With covid your lucky they can stay open. read more

They are under NEW ownership as of November 1st. New management has focused on revitalizing the store with better storage so the store feels cluttered, changing sections with the addition of different displays (the men's section has a pegboard wall & shelving that houses men's hats and shoes). It's still in the process of rearrangement, but the changes they've made already make it easier for one to browse... the racks were not stuffed so full that I could hardly pull apart the hangers to see what they had to offer. They also are polishing their customer service skills amongst their (new?) employees, as they seem to be MUCH friendlier than those who worked there when I last visited. Instead of giving me a silent side-eye upon walking in the door--almost all the times I've been to Plato's in the past--the workers behind the counter actually smiled and looked me in the eye as they greeted me. They also check if you're OK when you run into them in the racks as they're organizing and putting stuff away. A big improvement. I've seen nothing but good things when I visited after new ownership. It is now a fun and relaxing experience walking into Pacifica Plato's Closet. Hoping that this lasts over time! read more

Came here to sell some clothes. They bought 2 purses out of my two large bags of clothes/stuff. Was offered $5 cash payout or $10 Plato's closet credit. I chose the credit. Clothes aren't really my style here. Customer service is ok. Prices could be cheaper. I've seen better selection at Goodwill Burlingame. I bought a pretty dress with my $10 credit. Now that I've used my credit, I won't be returning. read more

As far as consignment goes, I used to always go to Buffalo Exchange or Crossroads in SF- due to very unsuccessful experiences with other Plato's in the past. However, this location has changed my opinion on shopping at Plato's. I'll just start naming off reasons why: -The organization is great! I frequent here often since it's right next to my yoga studio, and every time I peak in it seems they keep moving and improving product placement. -It's very spacious and has lots to look at. -I've had very successful buy backs here and love the percentages compared to Buffalo/Crossroads! -The staff is very friendly and interactive with customers. -It's never SO busy that you have to wait an hour to get your stuff looked at. -Lots of parking! read more

So sweet and such vibrant energy. The petite Asian is as well sweet as can be. The nicest and most open minded workers you will ever meet! So before you try any of the other Plato closets I highly HIGHLY recommend you try this Pacifica location first!! Sorry but I tried the San Jose location on multiple occasions with some nice clothing items (true jeans etc.) and sadly they ALWAYS seem to fail me. Which is sad.. I can tell the Vibe aint there. Pacifica is a shopping desert. We have a few Safeway's, a Ross, and a bunch of surf shops. Plato's is the only place to get clothing that is unique, but also, the staff is amazing! I stopped by after grocery shopping at Oceana just for kicks. The team here guided me toward all the best deals in the store and they were fun to hang with. Times are tough. People are sad. Come here if you're in need of a pick me up or really cheap designer! read more

Staff is really really friendly. They do trade-in's fast and hold merchandise for you in the store. Just like any thrift store, its a hit or miss. Luckily during COVID everyone's been checking out to see if stuff still brings them joy and has brought out really cool merch. Definitely worth at least checking out. read more

Hopefully this store gets sold soon to someone who can do a better job being a business owner. It's very poorly run, needs a ton of cosmetic improvements, needs better storage solutions so there aren't bags & bins of clothing everywhere, needs a serious person to focus on the actual store, and not just on making tik tok videos duetting Charli D'Amelio to try to get tweens & teens to come into the store and buy stuff. The store needs so much work, and the current owner does nothing to improve it. Sad. read more

I don't mind the "average" customer service, but I do mind when they RIP ME OFF. I went in and sold some items. I was offered $6 in cash and $9 store credit. My purchase was $10 in total (before tax) so when my total came out to $1.63, I didn't mind at all. However, I looked at my receipt and noticed that my items were on sale and they only took off $6. TECHNICALLY I did have $9 savings total (I saved $3 in my sale items), but I believe they were negligent and gave me $6 off instead of the $9 store credit I was issued. I won't even bother going back in to get $3 back, especially reading the reviews on this Yelp and actually experiencing the "I don't care" customer service attitude from them. I will be calling them to let them know they eff'ed up. Added note: saw a woman come in and complain (honestly don't know who's fault it is), employee gave a "sorry I can't do anything and I don't care" kind of response, and the woman stormed off. Then the woman and the other guy working went on to talk yeah about the customer that just left. MANAGER, HIRE PEOPLE THAT ARE MORE METICULOUS AND AT LEAST FRIENDLY. [EDIT] Someone that I assume works for Platos Closet messaged me. They pretty much said they put the store credit first ($3) then the cash discount ($6). I really wanted to give this place another chance. I have been coming here for a while. This location is good to buy but not to sell. The last 2 times I've tried to sell my items and young man with blonde hair does not offer good money for items I bring. I brought a jacket that I bought a few weeks ago and I paid 40$ he was offering me 4$ for a jacket thAt had tags and was not used. Also brought some reAlly close to new condition shoes and he was only offering 4.50$ I took it to another place in SF and I got a total of 18.38$ for the same items I took in. I have a friend that also shops here and tells me that young guy never says hi or always looks mad. Also holding system is not great here. You call to put stuff on hold and and when you get to store to pick up they say it was misplaced or given to someone else. I rather just drive down to San Mateo where all the staff is super sweet and friendly. San Mateo offers better money and have friendly and helpful staff. read more

I herd about this place through my brother n law and I decided to go I went in for the first time with a bag of clothes and they were all brand clothes and I got low balled so bad you guys they gave me $5?! I've been to a good number of thrift shops around the Bay Area and this store in particular is by a wide margin my favorite. The staff is always very helpful and friendly, and they carry a great, diverse, and clean selection of generously priced and stylish clothing. This is a phenomenal consignment vintage shop that happens to be a chain of sorts ... I've been to the one near my house in San Mateo and also the move on Monterey and in Sonoma county. Whatever their buying policies are, clearly they work because I'm always--and I do mean always--invented to come in here--they always have a wide range of eclectic merchandise, usually a bigger variety for women than men, but unless the shop specifically specialized in men's, that's always gonna be the case. This is a terrific little shop with awesomely low prices--I doubt I be ever been here and not walked out without something. On my list visit, it was an H & M topper'Kimono type button up top. On most women, it would hit at the lower hip but on me it's knee length! The people are welcoming and friendly, the location with parking also customer friendly! read more

I've sold to Plato's closet at this specific location 3 times and the first two times I felt what I was offered for my items were fair however the third time all I got was a measly $19.50 for 6 in trend winter clothing items which comes out to $3.25 per each item. They completely low balled me this time around. Had I sold on eBay, poshmark or mercari, I'm sure I could have made $250+ after commissions. I don't have the time to sell on online platforms since I'm moving so I took the cash. I only gave this place 2 stars because the store associate was nice. However in terms of buying unless you have a bulk of items from early 2000s-2010, don't bother. You're better off going to crossroads for your on trend items. Better yet, sell on other platforms as mentioned above. I likely will not be selling here unless I'm desperate. read more

Worker's are nice and I do enjoy shopping here (hence, the 2 stars). However, I sold 6 items here last week (I should've taken pictures of). I only got $22.50 TOTAL. I honestly feel like if I was a Caucasian person (like all the workers I saw in there) I would've gotten more. COVID time's are tough but I had 6 items worth more than $20+ a piece and they we're basically sold for almost $4 each (if you do the math). I would never sell my clothes here again but just needed the extra income. They're most likely going to sell the clothes back to or close to retail price. Yikes, Plato. Traded clothes here and at first it was a little frustrating as I noticed my items were very overlooked and did not get the amount that they deserved. I spoke to the owner about how I felt and she understood and knew that my items were definitely worth a little more. I am glad that they noticed that I was unsatisfied and took care of this. They reviewed my items again and figured out the best price they could. When trading don't be afraid to talk to the staff your ideas on the prices! hope this helps :) read more

The "on-trend" opinion here is SO whack. I've been to this location 3 times and never find anything except for the clothing I wore in middle school during the early 2000s. You got your assortment of colored/striped tshirts and bejeweled sweaters that I'd never think of bringing in as inventory. They need a serious re-haul of what they carry here. I always find something at the San Mateo location. Pacifica has potential with the amount of space they have but nothing ever catches my eye. No ones trying to purchase an Abercrombie and Fitch polo or ruffled cardigan any longer.. Probably the last time I'll try to sell or purchase from this location - huge waste of time. read more

I usually work with them . I went in with a few items and when getting what they didn't want back they kept a whole bag of items without paying me out . I called and the manager seemed really helpful and understanding . She mentioned not being only having one of the 5 items and the others were no where to be seen. She told me she would give me some value back as it was their loss. When told what I would be given I did not agree and she agreed to give more for the items she "did not " have. I then showed up to get the money and seen all of the items she did not have up for grabs and for sale . She seemed scared as if she knew the whole time when I pointed every item out . She lied and said she checked the floor multiple time when she called on the phone . Also the employee who was there and checked my items apparently had not seen them and knew nothing . Daughter complained about a white female tall blonde hair bangs worker being extremely rude to her while she was checking out. She spent 10 minutes waiting to be checked out by her as she 100% saw her standing there. Daughter said she was extremely unwelcoming, didn't say hi or welcome or any kind gesture, moved the card machine with much attitude, and slapped the receipt onto the poorly folded clothes. Cashier did below the bare minimum. We won't ever be coming back. DONT HIRE MISERABLE PEOPLE WITH ATTITUDES. I've been to this location of Plato's Closet multiple times and it's always up in the air how the staff will be. Sometimes they're really on point and sometimes they're huddled at the register/fitting room chatting. I went in today to try sell for the first time. The girl at the front was super helpful and guided me through the selling process. You're either offered X amount of dollars or twice the amount in store credit. The stuff I brought it were dresses and skirts that are brand new/ worn only once or twice and are still trendy. Out of all 20+ pieces I brought the girl offered $15 cash or $30 store credit for 6 pieces. 1) I was surprised she didn't take more dresses (she took forever21 only and there were other brands) and 2) $15 for 6 pieces is too low! I'd have better luck selling online which is what I'll probably do. I told the sales girl thank you for appraising everything, but I was going to pass. She said she understood and I went on my way. Overall I wouldn't try sell again. I agree with reviews stating they really try lowball you. Still a fun place to shop because you can find good things, but in my opinion a rip off to try sell. read more

Shopped here for the first time ever today despite being a Pacifica native and local, and man do I feel like I've missed out on years of incredible finds! I got a ton of name brand athletic gear (Nike, Lululemon, and Adidas) at very reasonable prices for an upcoming yoga retreat. Love that they appear to cater to millennial and gen Z styles so I'm not sorting through hundreds of things only my grandma would wear. The two people working today were friendly, too. Two areas for improvement however are: 1) better lighting in the fitting rooms as I could hardly see what I tried on and; 2) more off-season clothing (was hoping to find denim shorts or skirts my size for my retreat in a tropical climate but the selection was minimal).*** I haven't sold here so I can't comment on that aspect. Overall really great; I'm definitely going to make a couple stops in per month! ***After I wrote this they reached out and told me they have off-season clothing in the back and can find stuff in my size for my next visit! I sold clothes once before and they bought some stuff from me. I decided to go there a second time and I had a big bag of good condition name brand clothes. I had jeans, sweaters, jackets, cardigans, and shirts. I wenin during the month of November amd the clothes I had were for the fall/winter season. One of the workers told me it would take around 40 min for them to look through all the clothing because they were busy so I left the store to walk around the plaza. I got a text message from them 15 min later saying thay they were done going through the bag of clothes. When I got back to platos closet they told me they didn't buy anything because they were looking for in season clothes. When I checked my bag nothing was touched, they didn't even look through my bag. I just grabbed my bag and left to Buffalo exchange in SF and they offered me $40 for the clothes I tried to sell to platos closet. The workers at platos need to do a better job. If they don't want to do their job then they shouldn't be working there. read more

Iam done! The last few times gone to sell some items Why after I leave I feel like I got screwed the last visit was the nail in the coffin. Just to name a few items they took: a Giants jersey, a Giants jacket, a Pink Floyd sweatshirt, athletic leggings. I notice they didn't put tags of some of items and when they showed me the basket of stuff they covered it up like a blanket so I could only see the one item then they offered me practically nothing $ for them, then it it me they didn't put take on some things because they kept them for themselves & thats why the offer was extremely low the owner should really now what their employees are doing or up to. This is the second time they have not accepted my clothes which are in good condition. They tell me they don't take my kind of clothes which are all dress pants, nice tops and summer wear. They tell me they can't sell that type of clothes yet I see the type of clothes that I had all the time in the store. Some of the clothes were new with the labels still on them. I love the store and for what they sell and buy believe me I sold to them before and bought from them but the whole staff team are just not trustworthy or follow the store guidelines. I defined believe without a doubt that if you are a close friend to the workers or are close to them just as everyday customers they will give you a lot good service because of the relationship you got with them. I saw one of the workers giving a friend of theirs 60-70 dollars for 4 pieces of clothing they were selling away, not even branded. A friend of mine as had an issue where they didn't even gone through their bag of clothing at all untouched since they remembered the order they put their clothing in and told them ( white girl with short hair)what they were looking for when the bag clearly had all of that. So besides that we went to buffalo exchange where they bought almost the whole bag. Another issue is that I went there on Black Friday and waited in line for this Nickelodeon jacket that was displayed at front but when I went up to the worker and asked her for it (Asian lady with glasses) she put the jacket down and said it's sold. I honestly felt hurt because it's suppose to be first come first serve. I shrugged it off but then a girl who was after me in line went up to her and she gave her the jacket when I was before her! Honestly the workers here put holds for their favorite customers before any other customers in which I don't want any of you guys want to go through so please I advise you want to find something good this location can be it but the staff is not loyal to the store guidelines on first come first serve. read more

I came in here (4/13/17, Late Afternoon) with two bags chocked full of clothes - mostly never worn, all trendy. I was expecting to sell at least half of it, but they only took 2 out of 16 articles of clothing. It's okay, they said they were only looking for certain items. I only got $3.20, but I wasn't looking to make a fortune. I just wanted to get rid of my clothes. LOL. I went to Goodwill afterwards to donate. :) Unlike the other reviews, the girls who were working on the trip I made were very nice and informative. I think they did their job right. read more

Stay Away. Seriously. The staff is rude, and they are awful crooked. I went in to sell some old stuff of mine, and they took like eight percent of the stuff I bought- telling me they "had enough plus-size clothing". It doesnt matter whether I'm "plus size" or not- the girls were straight-up rude about it. They decided to take some of my stuff, including a ring I had brought in. But, deciding I didn't want to do business with them, I asked for my stuff back. They wouldn't give my stuff back to me. WOULDN'T. Even though I asked repeatedly to have it returned to me after they told me they'd give me like three dollars for it. WOULDN'T GIVE IT BACK!! I hadn't signed any agreement or anything. It was legally still mine. I could have pressed charges. They said I could take the three dollars in cash, or six dollars store credit, and those were my only options. How about give me back my stuff?!?! Yes, honey, they straight up stole my stuff. I gave up, took my three dollars, and left. I went in a few days later. I found my ring I had "sold" them- they were charging THIRTY FIVE DOLLARS for it. Crooks. Thieves. Really catty awful terrible unethical staff. STAY AWAY. read more
