Came here at 6PM to sell. Immediately was told they are only selling for store credit. I understand that they have a daily limit BUT their whole marketing and plastered everywhere is CASH FOR CLOTHES. Not STORE CREDIT FOR CLOTHES. Maybe they should cool off on that if it's not empirically true. Really disappointing for people who work and can't come in the morning. I usually buy at least one thing when I sell but I don't want everything in credit. As well the lady working declined keeping my clothes overnight and picking up tomorrow when they had not reached their "cash limit". The gal working suggested we go to the San Mateo location, so I called and could not get a human on the phone with any option. They encourage you to text the number, no reply. I went back into the store to ask if they could get ahold of the other store to see if they were buying for cash. After a few minutes she got a text back and told me they are giving cash but only accepting one bag per person (I had 4). The lack of alternate options is comical. I took my stuff to Buffalo exchange in the city which was actually able to give me cash and was delightful. read more

Plato's Closet is always a hit or miss for me. But today was definitely a hit! I've been going to this Plato's Closet for a couple years now, and it's great to see how much this store has improved in terms of the layout of the store and great customer service! They renovated their fitting rooms and now they're much more spacious. They've upgraded the sign in for selling and now it's on a little tablet making selling here such an easy process: you sign in, hand your bags over, and shop around until they're done looking through your bags. Today, I brought in two bags full of clothes and they chose 8 articles of clothing to buy from me (2 tank tops, a crew neck, a pair of pants, a skirt, 3 shirts) worth $16.20 in store credit. It's not a lot for what I know they're worth, but it's better than nothing! As I was waiting for them to finish looking through my bags, I found pair of black ripped jeans, a new Kendall & Kylie tank top, a new black dress, and a Jonas Brothers shirt haha all of that should've been $43 but since I traded in those 8 articles of clothing ($16.20 worth) and I remembered to do the yelp check in for 20% off, it came out to $21.38 total! I was really happy that they actually found stuff they were interested in buying and that I found new clothes to trade in! Sometimes I'm not as lucky bringing in 3 bags full of clothes only to hear they didn't want to accept anything even though they were good quality items!! Again, it's a hit or miss lol I'll always come back just to see what new stuff they have and because I'm always clearing out my closet and trying to make a few bucks off them before donating them somewhere else. I took my teenage grandchildren here during vacation in Pacifica and ended up going back again before we left. One of the best consignment/used clothing stores we have ever found. Huge selection for younger adults and teens but I found a few things also. Converse, Urban Outfitters, anime, graphic tees, jackets, tons of jeans and shorts! Friendly helpful waitstaff especially Madison, Kira and Ali. Going back again soon......worth a trip across the bay. read more

I like the store, but it seems like the business model is geared toward selling fast fashion at a higher price. I went in today and they bought some of my clothes, but skipped an Akris Punto dress that was $700 new and selling used on Poshmark for $166. I tend to go to Style Encore if I want something nice, but they don't buy as much. read more

Pretty disappointed with this place. I had three bags of gently worn clothing, in all the latest styles, and out of hundreds of items they chose to take five. Apparently they don't like anything from Victoria's Secret or Lucy brand. I had tons of jeans all name brands. This has become my favorite buy-sell-trade store. Usually I hit up the Crossroads in Santa Cruz, but that's far from my place. Plato's in Pacifica rocks because it's super spacious, well lit, and has great finds. My husband who is picky actually had a good time shopping in the men's section. I was shocked! The shopping center is located off Hwy 1. Lot's of parking. This is way better than the San Mateo Plato's Closet. If you are a Peninsula local, make the trek out to Plato's Pacifica, and after enjoy the coastal sites. read more

I've had nothing but pleasant experiences at this Plato's Closet! This location is not close to anything major -- it is located in Pacifica in Eureka Square but I personally like that because it's a quick drive and there's never any traffic compared to the San Mateo location. (fun fact there's also a pretty decent boba place down the block!). What I love about Plato's is that they have an instagram page! Often times I see a really cute outfit they put on their instagram and that brings me into the store. They used to allow holds on items you see on their instagram page via commenting on the photo, but in recent times they've done away with it since people hold the item and never came in to buy it. Otherwise, I really enjoy how they put outfits together and tell you the size/price right up front! Some of my favorite things I've thrifted from this location included a Women's Denali Jacket (tan colored) for $30 and this really cute long sleeves romper for $10. They have a lot of bargain brands (Forever 21, H&M) along with more expensive brands such as Lululemon, Brandy Melville, The North Face, etc. I've also done my fair share of selling at this location and it's a super easy process. I drop my bags off at the front, sign some papers and usually they're able to make an offer within 20 minutes or so. You can ask for cash, store credit, or exchange for items you already see in store. Overall, I really enjoy thrifting and although this is a "pricier" thrift stores, I've still found plenty of clothes I've liked and have sold things here as well. This place has a lot bigger section for men then most platos closest I've been to. The woman's section was huge. They also had on fitting rooms. They had a lot of shoes and a wide selection. Went to sell a bag of clothes with my gf and after being told "yes we are accepting", the one girl said to the other girl "just tell her anything" and then proceeded to say oh sorry we don't accept skinny jeans. This made no sense considering the bag had 2 mom jeans (H&M with tags still on them) and Levi's wedgie fit. Felt very overlooked and also just felt like they were very unprofessional and didn't handle it correctly. Why say you're accepting then make a comment to your associate to just "say anything" to us. Also most of their Jeans upon entering were incredibly old (not stylish old, just really old and dirty) and we were offering some new mom jeans with tags so overall didn't make sense at all read more

Unbelievable prices! Way overpriced for USED items. Just because it's brand name, you still pay the price as you would going Marshalls or TJmaxx. What is the point of selling thrift pieces for high prices? So much for helping the community with making more money than what you also pay for. Ridiculous. This is one of the Platos location that really increases their prices for what it should be worth. Who knew a trip to Pacifica would have me returning home with 10 new dresses? Oh wait, that was the plan! I heard there was a Plato's Closet in Pacifica and was excited to check out some new stomping grounds. I got NINE dresses and a coat for under $100. That coat itself cost more than $100. There were so many dresses I was immensely overwhelmed - BCBG and Bebe with the tags still on, Free People, Banana Republic, and more high end brands. Racks going on forever of dresses in each size. I have actually never tried on so many dresses at once; I must have tried on over 50 dresses. There was also a huge number of sale items for 70% off. I saw many reviews of people upset and many were selling. For buying, this place is a gold mine. The road to Pacifica Plato's Closet is a highway and I would drive it all night long if I came back with this many dresses every time. I probably don't need to buy new dresses for half a year. read more

70% off clearance items, hellllllllll yeah. I came through this morning right when they opened because I haven't been here since they first opened and I wanted to see if I could find any good deals since I didn't really shop last time. One major good thing about this Plato's Closet is that it's in a plaza so parking is abundant and doesn't cost a thing unlike the San Mateo location. Granted, it's not exactly in the most poppin' location, but in the same plaza as Plato's, you can go to Dinosaurs for Vietnamese sandwiches and Tea World for boba so thumbs up to that. They have signs throughout the store and posted on the windows that they have sales going on. As I was checking out, the cashier told me that clearance items are 70% off instead of 50% because they have too big of an inventory right now and need to make room. I ended up scoring some shirts for as low as $1.50. How do you beat a deal like that? Granted, I did see why some people may be upset at them because I found some items not on sale that, in my opinion, seemed to be priced a bit too high, but hey- to each their own on how they do business. They're also understaffed right now, they have a sign posted by the door saying that they're adjusting their hours because of the lack of staff I believe so come through if you're looking for a job. The lady working was pretty friendly. When she saw me standing by the register she was like, "Oh no, have you been waiting long? I'm so sorry" even though I just got up there a second before she saw me and that was pretty nice of her. Overall, I would come through again. This place seems like it's better for shopping than selling. They filled one of their black buckets to the top with my clothes and it came to $35. It included new items from name brands with tags on some things. Items were from Forever 21, Bebe, Gap, DC, and other brands. It really wasn't worth the time, considering I had to wait an hour. I recommend donating rather than selling, it's just not worth the hassle. The also ripped open the bags so I had to rebag the clothes before donating them to Salvation Army. It was strange because the bags weren't tied and were the very durable stretchy 13 gallon garbage bags, so not sure why they needed to tear them open. If you're really desperate for cash you'll make a few dollars, but your time is probably more valuable. Based on my experience I was probably getting $1-$3 for jeans, and less for tops. read more

I have gone to this Platos one other time prior to this and it was the same exact thing. I have always brought in quality and gently used pieces. Usually half my things I bring in are name brands as well as including items that have value (ex. vintage Levi 501s, cashmere sweaters, etc.) On both occasions that I have come in they have taken MANY of these items and have cashed me out for not even half of the worth of items they have taken. Wish I wasn't so timid to not accept the exchange. Lesson learned. Never coming back here lol. read more

Using moving as my motivation, I'm having a do-over for my closet. It means get rid of lots and lots of brand names and good condition clothings items. Looking thru yelp to see where to bring my goodies to, I decided to give this location a chance since it is under new ownership and 10 mins from my place. Review is strictly based on selling experience. Wait time: Zero- either I'm lucky or strictly timing since it was Monday afternoon. Customer service: there was 2 girls at the counter ( Tina and someone I forgot to ask for her name- sorry). They were quick and friendly- unlike at some other store where they think they have the buying power. My trip was relatively easy peasy. Price: well I know I can't expect getting a lot back from my clothes. But consider the styles and condition of my 3 bags of clothes. I got back $86. Not mad about it. But there is a catch: I would not bring your brand name items here. They don't pay much for them. For example: good condition with case : my aviator polarized rayban sunglass-buying price $1.46 wait whatttt? Tory Burch Zippy wallet $3.68... um no. You would get more money for these items at crossroad trading co. Because of this I'll take back 1 stars. Other than that, it is a great way of recycling of your-no-longer-loved pieces. I am coming back for sure since i still have lots more stuff to go thru. The rest of my items are going to Salvation Army where 85% of the money going to support training and creating jobs for veterans. Yup not goodwill! I am going to donate some money at the end of my project to fire victims. Hey it's thanksgiving, give thanks. read more

I came in for the first time and honestly my first strike was the selection of clothing available. If you're a man shopping this place isn't for you. The men's section is on the corner with a poor variety of clothing. Looking over what they had to offer was no better, continuously I saw clothing marked at a high price even though they had holes or stains on them. The people buying clothing have no taste, and have no style. I tried selling my clothes and was low balled (not surprised). When I said never mind and asked for my clothes back I checked to see if everything was returned and noticed they didn't give back everything. This place sucks. read more

I live way too close to this establishment, so it can be a little dangerous as I find myself walking right over to browse around and find cool threads that I probably did not need. I always appreciate the fact that things are color coordinated, as it is very easy to navigate - specially when I'm specifically on a mission to NOT go for black. I don't mind the "average" customer service, but I do mind when they RIP ME OFF. I went in and sold some items. I was offered $6 in cash and $9 store credit. My purchase was $10 in total (before tax) so when my total came out to $1.63, I didn't mind at all. However, I looked at my receipt and noticed that my items were on sale and they only took off $6. TECHNICALLY I did have $9 savings total (I saved $3 in my sale items), but I believe they were negligent and gave me $6 off instead of the $9 store credit I was issued. I won't even bother going back in to get $3 back, especially reading the reviews on this Yelp and actually experiencing the "I don't care" customer service attitude from them. I will be calling them to let them know they eff'ed up. Added note: saw a woman come in and complain (honestly don't know who's fault it is), employee gave a "sorry I can't do anything and I don't care" kind of response, and the woman stormed off. Then the woman and the other guy working went on to talk yeah about the customer that just left. MANAGER, HIRE PEOPLE THAT ARE MORE METICULOUS AND AT LEAST FRIENDLY. [EDIT] Someone that I assume works for Platos Closet messaged me. They pretty much said they put the store credit first ($3) then the cash discount ($6). This is one of our favorite PC's. Good selection of clothes, nice brands and good prices. We got a cool forever 21 bomber jacket, a pile of shirts in good condition, and they had a coach purse for $25, but I didn't buy it because I don't need it, but now I'm remorseful. They are under NEW ownership as of November 1st. New management has focused on revitalizing the store with better storage so the store feels cluttered, changing sections with the addition of different displays (the men's section has a pegboard wall & shelving that houses men's hats and shoes). It's still in the process of rearrangement, but the changes they've made already make it easier for one to browse... the racks were not stuffed so full that I could hardly pull apart the hangers to see what they had to offer. They also are polishing their customer service skills amongst their (new?) employees, as they seem to be MUCH friendlier than those who worked there when I last visited. Instead of giving me a silent side-eye upon walking in the door--almost all the times I've been to Plato's in the past--the workers behind the counter actually smiled and looked me in the eye as they greeted me. They also check if you're OK when you run into them in the racks as they're organizing and putting stuff away. A big improvement. I've seen nothing but good things when I visited after new ownership. It is now a fun and relaxing experience walking into Pacifica Plato's Closet. Hoping that this lasts over time! read more
