Came in Friday the 4th around 1pm for a solo vibe at the bar. Ordered the soup, grilled cheese and Caesar salad. All solid, no complaints. The cocktail was cute too, bright and refreshing, did what it needed to do. Now the service... when I walked in there was nobody at the host stand and the bartender wasn't behind the bar either. Sat down and waited. When he did show up, his "how can I help you" was giving meh... like sir... I'm at the bar, food and drink, my good barkeep! not exactly the warm come on in and stay awhile energy I expect when I'm spending money on lunch. He brought a menu and warmed up by the end but that first vibe stuck. I'd love to tell you his name but he didn't share. Coulda been an off day. Food was good enough that I'd give it another try but next time I hope the vibe matches the plate.
Incredible. Stunning. Modern. I could go on and on and on about our first experience at Plate, but, suffice it to say, we were absolutely blown away. Taking advantage of KC Restaurant Week and the lunch menu, everything was top-notch. The appetizers were perhaps the highlight on this visit, but those meatballs are phenomenal. Perfectly prepared and melt-in-your-mouth texture. The house sauce? Look, I'm picky about Italian places and their red sauces. Too much sugar and sweetness? Not my thing...that's what really stood out to me at Plate - a nice, normal and savory red sauce that could have come from my own kitchen. Our server was attentive on a slow Thursday afternoon, and took great care of us. The restaurant itself sits in a sort of non-descript office-looking building right on the SE corner of 63rd and Holmes - directly across the street from BKS Artisan Ales. There is a two-level parking structure on the east side of the building, though I believe at least part of that is for residents of nearby living accommodations. Everything looked sleek and modern, and definitely is going for a classier vibe. We love to try new things during Restaurant Week, and this will now be in our rotation of date night dinner places! The building entry is a bit wonky, but just pay attention to the address sign on the entrance and you'll be fine.
I had no idea there were two Plates in the city and every July I want lots of pasta it's a thing I have and do so we went to plate after football practice and the one in Brookside was close to our location. Keep in mind the Focaccia read is also high in the list of things I love about Plate. So we were seated in no time because there was no lunch crowd. And Kenan was the most attentive Waiter I've had in a long time and our conversation was great and wam and welcoming. We enjoyed the nice cool air conditioning and were amazed that they had Wimbledon on the TV above the Bar so I was able to check the score for IGA and Bencic, congratulations to the winner no spoilers here. We ordered our normal Shirley Temples our summer favorite drink which Kenan kept coming lol. The Truffle Butter Bread, Caesar Salad with Salmon and surprise instead of Pasta my son wanted a pizza so we had the red sauce and basil pizza. Food was great and will definitely be back, this location has so much potential I wish them well.
We wanted to try a new place for restaurant week and this place did not disappoint. We tried the meatballs with a pizza, we would have liked to have some pasta but the menu was limited for lunch. We will come back for it next time. The entree my husband had was just ok, he thought the chicken Marsala would be better with potatoes vs grits and probably would have chosen a different dish after he saw it was grits.
Boozy Brunch has made Sunday my new favorite day of the week with their bottomless mimosas and modern Italian food. Check out these amazing brunch options - bottomless mimosas for $25 - an egg topped carbonara pizza - the hash with eggs and peppers - cinnamon sugar housemade ricotta doughnuts with the most amazing bourbon hot chocolate Boozy Brunch with bottomless mimosas is on Sundays 10am-2pm.
Ambience was great. Loved sitting at the pizza bar in this cold weather. learned that you if go for happy hour $7 drinks after 2-9pm the cheap drinks only apply when sitting at actual drink bar, not the pizza bar. Food was decent. Tried four items: garlic bread-the garlic butter was yummy; spaghetti was good; the pasta dish was not my favorite; and Cesar salad was just a salad. Quantity was decent given that it's an upper scale restaurant and the pasta dish was creamy. I'd go again but l have limited options for vegetarian.
Our server was especially attentive and the food was delicious! The vibe is nice and formal but comfortable and easy to hear one another. We will be back!
This well-known upscale Italian restaurant in Kansas City, MO has a boozy brunch that you do not want to miss out on! This brunch features a few main dishes such as a delicious hash with eggs, a carbonara pizza with an egg on top, and a smothered croque. You also have to try the Bombolinis - ricotta doughnut balls with cinnamon sugar and a chocolate dipping sauce. We also ordered a side Arugula salad and the $25 bottomless mimosa option. Make sure to check out the Boozy Brunch at Plate asap!
Plate really is next level. I'm not really sure why Plate isn't talked about more! Hands down the best Italian restaurant in Kansas City. I've had most things on their menu and nothing disappoints. Go try their Happy Hour! The service really makes them stand out and the ambiance is very romantic.
The service was great and the staff are attentive to any allergies. The burrata appetizer was lovely - the only thing we'd change would be to warm the peaches rather than be served cold but the flavor was amazing! The Caesar salad was unique and solid. The spaghetti has a tangy sauce and the noodles (on both the spaghetti and pappardelle) taste homemade. The chocolate cake with raspberry jam was delectable!
It seemed like everything we wanted was out of stock. The lamb was comparable to a restaurant closer to us. I wasn't impressed with the higher price tag for a restaurant to be out of so many things on a regular weekend night. Probably won't return. Service took longer than anticipated and the restaurant was decently quiet to enjoy a couples date.
I was in town for work, from Seattle. Went to this place on a Tuesday night around 6, we ate inside. You may want to make a reservation- we walked in but they were busy. We got the meal for two, it was amazing. I was so FULL. Will definitely go back again, delicious
We went for an early thanksgiving supper last night. We had many items and all tried each others' and the food was divine! We started with the truffle garlic bread (truffle butter was delish!) and it had chili flakes that just made it extra amazing somehow. We each had a different dish and everything was SO good. We also shared a few desserts, probably my favorite part of the meal! I didn't get a pic of my MIL spaghetti and meatballs (they were so kind to accommodate with something not on the menu) or my espresso martini (superb!) The service was great, our server was very knowledgeable and friendly, but I wish they hadn't sent some staff home early, as the staff had a hard time keeping up to the demands. But that cannot be changed. The parking is great, street and garage. The inside was beautiful and clean and the bar area is really neat. I'd love to come back sometime and highly recommend!
Wow'd me and my family once again! For apps, we ordered the Brussel sprouts, grilled octopus, arancini, and the truffle gnocchi. All of these were delicious, but the grilled octopus won that round. Entrees that were ordered were the salmone, the vitello alla valdostana, capesante, the trota, and lastly the funghi. PLATEs were wiped clean. This place is so chic and such a vibe. We have been coming here as a family the past few years to celebrate different occasions and I'm sure we will be back next year to continue the tradition! :) read more

My friend and I came here before going to the zoo. What a cozy atmosphere. The service was great and the food hit the spot. Each time I come here, I try something different. The spaghetti with meatball did not disappoint. Highly recommend getting the focaccia bread. It's almost like a dessert. Tip - There is a parking garage for this restaurant but it's a little awkward. read more
Birthday dinner!! Loved the outdoor seating on the large patio. There is a parking garage next door that was easy to use. So the dishes were very flavorful but our experience really was memorable because of exceptions on their price fix menu ... 1st no included/ free birthday anything. But that is ok - from the options crossing the chocolate cake was a $10 up charge! That seemed excessive as supposedly a dessert was included with our meal ... needless to say even with waitress & manager visits ( we were not complaining just asking as it was a surprise) nothing was reduced. Just odd for a nicer place and a not noted menu add to their offering. read more

Great place for brunch! A very lovely restaurant with friendly staff and exceptional cuisine. We've never been disappointed. read more
My last visit to Plate, I raved about the Carbonara. Unfortunately, this visit was very much so a disappointment in comparison. Never have I ever had such an heavily-greased, over-salted carbonara. The Quattro Formaggi Pizza was better in comparison, but not by much. Not sure what was going on in the kitchen today, but for around $40 after tax and tip... not worth it at all. read more

This is a fun and modern restaurant in south KC! Reminds me of Union on the Hill--under an apartment complex, but an elevated dining experience. I will be honest, the salads and main dish did not impress me. I think the triangle croutons on the Caesar salad were a great touch, but the arugula salad was rather plain and I would have preferred for the salmon to be accompanied with arugula--I think it would have paired well. My 5 star review is due to the desserts! I was blown away by the plating, combination of flavors and size of them! We got the chocolate cake, seasonal fried dough balls, olive oil cake (forgot to take a picture though...) and tart cherry dessert. Every single one was worth the price and worth 5 stars! We liked the olive oil cake the most, but I would 100% love to come back and try their drinks during happy hour next time. Be sure that when you visit to leave lots of room for dessert! read more

I have been to Plate in Brookside numerous times now and every time I love it. There is an easy parking garage right next to the restaurant, then you walk into a serene, dark restaurant that is sleek and clean. The waitstaff are incredibly knowledgeable of the menu and have great, straightforward recommendations. I recommend starting with the garlic bread - a delicious version of a fresh challah-style brioche-y truffle garlic bread sprinkled with hot pepper flakes and Parmesan. The truffle butter makes this a fantastic start to the meal. The meatballs are well balanced and well seasoned. Their pork shoulder papardelle is delicious and so deliciously seasoned, it's an absolute yes! Branzino is delicate, if you're looking for a lighter main. This is a great place for friends and dinner - I haven't tried brunch here yet but I look forward to it! read more
Plate is a great spot for date night or a fancy night out. The pasta here is fantastic. We got the Bolognese, the Caccio, and the truffle Gnocchi. They were all prepared well and the service was great. I would come here again. read more
Stopped in last night for my second time & the food was delicious like it was previously. Our server was great & friendly and the restaurant is gorgeous and clean. Had the Quattro formaggio pizza with a side of arugula salad. We got both breads and the Brussels sprouts for the table, which were also yummy. We shared the olive oil cake for dessert, and it was delish! The only reason I chose 4 stars instead of 5 is because the host was a little snooty and not friendly. read more

This is one of our favorite go-to, reliable neighborhood restaurants - with ample parking available in the garage which is just the cherry on top of their delicious food offerings. My boyfriend & I go here OFTEN lol, so we've tried quite a few of the menu items already. We always love how chill the restaurant is so, we do pull up in our sweats and sit at the bar comfortably on a weeknight usually but even on weekends, its not overstimulating which I love. Our favorites are (besides the happy hour menu items ), the KC strip is always cooked to perfection with that butter on top, we enjoy their house-made starter bread with the truffle butter (with real truffle pieces inside) ugh so good.. & then finally one of my FAVESSS is the arrabiata (spicy red fusili homemade pasta) with pork/veal meatballs and the arugula salad. The service is usually very good, & fast. The bartenders make one hell of an espresso martini which we enjoy getting EVERY visit I tell everybody who loves Italian food about this place read more
This was my first time visiting (Oct 2023) and I was very excited based on yelp reviews and recommendations from friends. What I will say is the food is on point! But the service was not great at all.... things like having an empty martini glass for a very very long time and having to ask someone to have the server return to the table to fill water glasses, place another martini order, etc...at this price point, you don't expect to have to do that. It is very possible that I just attended on an off night and will give this place another chance because the food is phenomenal! read more
This restaurant is a must try. The host and server had smiles. The atmosphere is casual elegance. Everything we ordered was marvelous. We celebrated a birthday and the restaurant gave us a $20 gift card. We will definitely return. read more

Plate is my favorite Italian restaurant in Kansas City. I came here with a friend for restaurant week last Friday. We arrived during happy hour, which offers great prices on drinks and food! I was really impressed by the number of happy hour apps that they offer, but it does end at 5pm, so make sure to get here early. When we arrived around 4:45pm, the restaurant was empty, and we were seated at a high top table. We ordered two glasses of wine to start. We then ordered dinner from the restaurant week menu. I had the arancini, salmon, and tiramisu for dessert. The arancini were delicious. The salmon was perfectly cooked, but it did not come with any side dishes, and the sauce was pretty sweet. The tiramisu was tasty; it was still slightly frozen, which actually made it tastier! I have yet to have a bad experience at this location, and I highly recommend a visit here! read more

I so wanted to love this place but it just did not blow me away. I will say that I came during restaurant week and I don't think that is always the best representation of the food that they serve so I may try it again but the food that we had was extremely bland. The service was really great - water glasses were always completely filled. The vibe is pretty cool - moody and dark which makes it feel fancy. Based on other reviews, I think I'll try again and see if I get better results! read more

I walked in without a reservation and was sat at the bar. Service was fast and friendly and the vibe is modern, upscale but still comfortable for families with children, date night, and everything in between. I had an assortment of antipasto and appetizers. GET THE PEAR BRUSCHETTA!! Everything else was good but that pear bruschetta is fantastic. The do have a "tasting menu" but it's not prix fixe so you can select what you want to try. I need to go back and try the actual pasta but would recommend! read more
