Went in to celebrate my birthday. The staff and our server were all amazing. The most delicious food I've eaten at an Italian restaurant in awhile. I would recommend the lobster ravioli myself. The location is in the old Abblebee's but you wouldn't know it when you walk in as they had it so adorably decorated with all the flair. At the end of the meal we had the best and most creamy and delicious tiramisu which they brought out and sang happy birthday to me. We will be back for sure! read more

From the moment you walk in, the restaurant feels cheap and poorly put together. The entire interior looks like an Applebee's with low-budget Italian decorations slapped on the walls. There are picture frames with pieces of Astroturf literally taped or stapled inside them as "art." The TVs still had the manufacturer stickers on the screens, and even the salt shakers looked like they still had the plastic wrapping from Walmart on them. Plastic after thought menus. Plastic plates and bowls. It gave the impression that no one cared about presentation or detail. We arrived at Bella's Italian right at 5:30 and were seated almost immediately, which was the high point of the evening. We ordered a bottle of wine, only to be told they were out, and the replacement we chose was not good. I ordered an espresso martini and it was awful. It tasted like straight vodka and cream with almost no coffee flavor at all. Easily the worst espresso martini I've ever had. Our calamari appetizer came out extremely chewy and unpleasant. On top of that, our waitress was basically nonexistent. After finishing my drink (which I had to force down just to be done with it), I wanted to order a beer. We waited about 20 minutes before she came back to the table. When she did, she wasn't friendly or attentive. Dinner was just as disappointing. My brother ordered the special with chicken and mushroom cream sauce over spaghetti and hated it. My dad had the chicken marsala. The sauce was decent, but the chicken itself was dry. My mom ordered chicken alfredo and said it tasted oddly fishy. The tortellini was the only bright spot. The sauce was flavorful and actually enjoyable. Unfortunately, the chicken parmesan felt like frozen, pre-breaded cafeteria chicken with some sauce and cheese thrown on top. Think Olive Garden, but worse in every single way, and that's Bellas. Overall, this was a one-star experience at best. Poor drinks, bad service, and mostly disappointing food. Based on this visit, I don't see this restaurant lasting long. read more

Ambiance -- Garbage. Need to dim the lights to mask the apple b's vibe. One of the picture frames had old astroturf in it thought that looked just absolutely attrocious. Tv's had manufacturing stickers on them. Food -- calamari was so chewy it felt like i was gnawing on a chicken tendon. Our table didnt even get through 5 calamari before we were all finished. Salad was a joke. They put no effort into this whatsoever. Wheres the croutons? Just cold leafs and liquid was all it was. The main dish could have been made in my crockpot at home. First time i left an ittalian restaurant and didnt want to eat the leftovers the next day. Service --no comment. Bottom line --don't go here read more

We stopped in recently and gave a few things a try. The Chicken Marsala had pasta cooked al dente, which was nice, but the sauce came off almost sweet maple-like, and the chicken itself was a bit on the dry side. We also ordered the fried cheese as an appetizer; it wasn't freshly made but it was okay. The Tortellini ala Panna was decent enough, but nothing stood out. Came in on a busy cold evening and got decent parking right outside. We were seated immediately despite it being busy and the wait staff was at the table promptly. We opted for some stuffed mushrooms in Alfredo sauce. There were 5 of them and they were tasty. The harlic bread/knots came and were heavy on the garlic and well done, but also still fluffy inside. The wife opted for some seafood pasta while I went with some tortellini Michelangelo. Both were just okay. I think the big disappointment here was that for being made from scratch, it was just okay? The Alfredo sauce was pretty thin/liquid and didn't stick particularly well to the pasta or shrooms. Our salads were kind of sad. My tortellini was pretty small and didn't contain much cheese. We asked for a side of Alfredo sauce to dip things in and again, it was pretty watery. Value wise, it just didn't quite stack up. This was a $70 meal between the two of us and frankly, wasn't worth that. Overall it's fine, but the wife and I agreed that Olive Garden would just be better across the board. I enjoyed the first-rate service, the nice atmosphere, the delicious food and the fairly reasonable lunch prices during my opening week dine-in lunch visit. My chicken parmesan lunch ($14.99) included salad with choice of dressing and garlic rolls. The small, but fresh salad and tasty rolls were served seven minutes after I ordered at the table, while the entrée was served 10 minutes later. More garlic rolls were available upon request. I found the entrée to be reasonably sized for a lunch portion, with delicious, breaded, white chicken, tasty cheese and a flavorful, but somewhat thin spaghetti sauce. I liked the additional parmesan cheese, which was freshly grated by the waiter at the table. I also found the tiramisu dessert ($8.99) to be nicely chilled, packed with creamy goodness and delicious. The dining area was freshly remodeled, welcoming and clean with a classic wood and brick Italian theme. I also noticed a large, central bar area with two TVs, three surrounding dining areas and pleasant Italian background music. The bar opens Dec 3. Every member of the staff I encountered was polite, friendly, professional and attentive in their black apparel - nice! I observed the staff making sure the restaurant was spotless as I arrived at opening time. The menu included appetizers, salads, soups, pastas with cheese, beef, eggplant, chicken and seafood, pizza, pizza rolls, hot subs, desserts, lunch items and meals for the kiddos. They also cater. We went for lunch on their second day open, but you couldn't tell. Arriving at about 11:15, we were greeted with a smile and quick to be seated. The restaurant has been updated with a cozy Italian theme and felt welcoming. Service was quick and attentive. I chose Chicken Albanese from the lunch menu, and my wife had the Chicken Piccata. The lunch came with salad and choice of dressing, and the piccata entree came with choice of soup or salad. The soup was minestrone. The table is also served delicious garlic bread with butter. The entrees arrived right after we finished our salads. The lunch portion was a bit smaller than a regular entree, but the perfect portion for my meal. The Chicken Piccata was enough for two meals. Both entrees were delicious. Overall a great experience! I hope they thrive in that location. read more

Bella's has everything going for it, but unfortunately it was a swing and a miss. When I walked in, I was amazed how beautiful and clean the space was. They transformed an old Applebees into a very cozy-looking Italian vibe. I was so excited - everything indicated this could be our new favorite Italian spot. But the food itself left a lot to desire. The portion sizes were small (despite high prices), the salad was iceberg with just a couple fixings in it, and I didn't love my dish - the baked tortellini. The sauce just wasn't good. I couldn't help but do the mental math of how much it would've costed me to make the same meal at home - with Walmart ingredients. I think Bella's has a real opportunity to improve. They already have a great atmosphere, a great location with very little competition in the area, and a good crowd. They just need to improve their actual food. read more

I had read many people say how much they love the new Bella's in Olathe so we thought we'd give it a try today. We noticed the inside looked nice and clean and newly remodeled. Our server was very friendly. We ordered off the lunch menu which came with a salad of a little bit of iceberg lettuce a thin slice of red onion, and some black olives. It also came with two rolls that were pretty chewy and just a tad bit warm. We had to wait a long time to get our food, but when it finally arrived, I had ordered the eggplant Parmesan, and it looked like it had been put underneath the broiler for too long, cause it was burned all around the edges and on top and was way too hot for me to eat for 10 minutes. Again we like to give new restaurants a try, but we won't be back to this one. read more

Oh man, we were hoping this would be great. Unfortunately, the lasagna is just downright gross. The noodles were soggy on the inside but the edges were dry and crusty, the meat tasted like it came from a can, and there was the thickest layer of grease in the bottom of the tin. The garlic knots are phenomenal but the $10.00 cheese bread is a terrible and the worst $10.00 we could have spent. You do not get salad with to go orders but based on others reviews I'm fine with that now. I'm honestly not sure if we will give it another try. I'd rather have Stouffer's frozen lasagna next time. read more

I'm not quite sure where to start, because this experience was a mix of decent food and truly chaotic service. I called from my car just around the corner and was told there would be a 30-minute wait. About three minutes later, I went inside and was told 40-45 minutes instead. We came back inside at the 15-minute mark and were seated around 17 minutes. After we were seated, we were told our name had already been called while we were outside, but we were never notified. That said, the hostess handled it well, got a table ready quickly, and seated us -- no major issue, just confusing. While we were waiting, a gentleman came in to place a to-go order. A young girl (she couldn't have been more than 13 and appeared to be family) was at the stand and couldn't answer his basic questions. She really should not be greeting or interacting with customers. The man eventually walked out, and honestly, I don't blame him. Once seated, our server came quickly. We ordered water while looking over the drink menu, then ordered a cabernet and limoncello. I also insisted on ordering an appetizer right away because our server already seemed flustered, and I worried she wouldn't be back anytime soon. We ordered calamari. A few minutes later, the server returned because she couldn't remember which wine I ordered -- even though I watched her write it down. She brought our drinks, and we ordered our meals: two chicken parmigiana and one salmon piccata. On my way back from the restroom, a server saw me coming and shoved into my shoulder to get past me. No "excuse me," no apology -- nothing. That was honestly shocking. Our salads arrived in very large bowls with extremely small portions -- maybe 2 leaves. It was pitiful. They advertise the Italian dressing as their house dressing, but it was clearly store bought. The calamari was fine -- not great, not terrible -- but the amount of sauce provided was laughable. Maybe two tablespoons total. We were scraping the dish to get any. We eventually received bread. It was cold and burnt. Now for the bright spot: Logan. He was helping the servers, and when we asked for more bread, he brought fresh knots straight from the oven. Absolute chef's kiss. Delicious. Logan was genuinely delightful -- friendly, attentive, and clearly cared. He was the highlight of the entire experience. Our server later returned and once again had to ask what one of us ordered. It was the second chicken parmigiana. When the food arrived, it was good. The salmon piccata was a little dry, but the sauce was flavorful. The chicken parmigiana was good -- thick, moist, nicely breaded, and not overly sauced (which I personally prefer). For dessert, we ordered the limoncello mascarpone. It was tasty, but the portion was a sliver -- extremely small for $8.99. Then the owner came by our table and launched into a long lecture about bad reviews he's received. He discussed complaints ranging from cold, store-bought lasagna to customers being upset that other tables received food first to how much he paid for the plastic ware. He went on about being from the Bronx, having locations in Dallas and Lee's Summit, and being open for 32 years. We made a point to tell him how wonderful Logan was. He barely acknowledged it. That was genuinely disappointing. It honestly made me want to take Logan somewhere he'd be appreciated. If you've been open for 32 years, the food should be phenomenal, and something as basic as properly heating lasagna should be second nature. There isn't another Italian restaurant in Olathe, and I really want to like this place. The food itself is good. But the service is truly atrocious and overshadows everything else. We saw this restaurant last month when we were driving West on 135th. Made a note to stop by at another time because it was packed. This week we had our chance. It's cozy inside and the menu looked good. We ordered the stuffed mushroom caps as an appetizer. The filling included crab meat which sounded good, but was not a plus. The crab tasted and smelled "fishy" to me. The sauce glopped on top was reminiscent of Alfredo. We got a glass of Moscato and that was tasty. We shared the shrimp & chicken Piccata which came with linguine. The portion was generous. But the chicken was a little dry. I wouldn't order this again. The entree came with a salad and that was fine. The waiter brought garlic knots to the table which were delish. When we asked for more, he brought out some that were just about burnt. I almost laughed out loud (is this what they serve to those who ask for seconds? Sorry, those should not have left the kitchen). We also shared a piece of the German Chocolate Mousse cake and we thought that was a total winner!! Nice size portion of rich, moist cake with Ganache frosting and chocolate shavings. Sooo good. When we left, the waiting line was out the door. Clearly, a good Italian place is much needed in this area. Too bad it didn't live up to our expectations. Hubby and I did agree to come back for wine and cake, though. And maybe try the pizza. read more

Went here on their 3rd night of service which was also the day after Thanksgiving. Their website indicated you should call for reservations, but when my fiancé called to make a reservation, he was told it was first come first serve but that if we got there by 5:45 PM we should be fine. I assume once they are fully staffed and fully trained, they'll take reservations, but just an FYI, if you're looking at this within the first couple of weeks of them being open. When we arrived, there was a fair amount of chaos. It was the hostess's first day and there wasn't much of a process put together and said the wait was maybe 20 minutes. There was also a sign that they didn't have their liquor license until December 3, so if you were going before, then, just know that you won't be able to get any drinks until after the 3rd. That said for our table of 5 we ended up waiting only about maybe 10 minutes. Smartly they decided to only half fill the restaurant to ensure that the service of the folks who were actually seated was appropriate and fast. So once we got seated within a minute or two, somebody came to get our drink orders and that was quite quick. And then they came around again in a decent amount of time to take our full orders. And then they went again, but within five minutes, they came with our salads. Three of us were confused at first because we'd ordered the olive oil and balsamic dressing and we thought maybe the salads were dressed, but she came back by with the oil and vinegar a few moments later so be aware that you need to dress it yourself but it would've been nice if the oil and vinegar had arrived before our salad so we didn't get confused. Salad was pretty uninspired, but it was free with the meal so I always appreciate getting a little green before I go crazy on pasta. And then shortly after that, the rolls came around. Delicious homemade fresh out of the oven rolls, and with some sort of garlic butter on them. Maybe 10 mins later, our entrées came out. I got the tortellini alla Panna, my future MIL got the cheese ravioli, FSIL and FBIL got the chicken Parmesan, and my fiance got the lasagna. Everyone really enjoyed their food. I had seen some reviews that maybe the portions weren't good for the price, but I was able to take leftovers home and my entrée was $16 so I thought that was very fair. We did end up splitting dessert - tiramisu and limocello custard cake. I only tried the lemon cake and it was delicious. Just to speak to the ambience, it's in a former Applebee's, but it's been so long since I've been in an Applebee's that I don't know how much renovation they did, but it was attractively decorated with stonework all over and I think once they're able to open the bar, it'll feel a little bit more complete. Music was a good volume. All in all, considering the fact that they were understaffed and they didn't have their bar open, we were really quite pleased. Prices were good. Service was very quick, though it would be nice to have a little bit more elegance to it but again early days so I'll forgive them for that. Only knocked off a star because of those few little flubs, but the food was great. No complaints there. read more

My wife and I stopped by on a whim at dinner time on a Thursday night. We were seated quickly and someone came over to take our drink orders. When our drinks arrived we ordered fried cheese appetizers and lasagna for our meal. The appetizer was acceptable but the sauce was delicious. We were served a side salad with Italian dressing and some bread. The dressing was quite good and the bread was tasty. I actually finished my leftover dressing with the bread. We did have to ask for Parmesan for our meal but they gladly brought it out and my wife enjoys copious amounts to which they obliged. I really enjoyed the lasagna. We found the experience wonderful and a great wait staff. We also met one of the owners. He was kind and explained it's family owned and they make stuff fresh and nothing is frozen. We will be back. After reading other reviews maybe they found their stride? Idk but I'm ready to try the chicken Alfredo. read more

We tried the new location in Olathe on Saturday around 4pm and was surprised the door was locked. To our surprise, we overheard that they were so busy earlier that they had to lock the door to prep for dinner time. We were able to get in at 4:30. This restaurant is in the old Applebee's and has been fully remodeled. Simple menu, we ordered and enjoyed the Chicken Parmesan and Chicken Albanese, both entrées came with side salad and rolls. Side salad and main entrée were served pretty close together. Portions were adequate, noodles were a bit al dente to my liking, my spouse enjoyed the house Merlot. When we left, all tables were full, and there was a wait at the door. Excited for this new restaurant in Olathe we look forward to visiting again. read more

Well, we decided to try the new anticipated Italian restaurant in Olathe called Bella's. We showed up on a Saturday night around 5:30 pm and our party of 5 was seated right away. The former Applebees was nicely transformed into a nice little Italy. Well, this is where anything nice ended. After seated I decided to look around. If I am not mistaken this restaurant has been open at least for several months. The first thing I noticed is all of the TV's in the bar area still had the manufacturer stickers on the bottom right of each screen. I remember thinking this restaurant does not pay attention to details. I also noticed the salt shaker on our table was unopened and still in its plastic packaging. Again, another flag that details were overlooked by management here. Our server showed up and boy she was no nonsense. No greeting on her face, no smile and no acknowledgement of what her name was. She was stern and emotionless. We told her we would like to start with an order of calamari. We also ordered a bottle of wine. She immediately told me they were out of the bottle of wine I requested so I had to pick another bottle. The wine list was very minimal. Well, they delivered the calamari. I will never forget my family's faces when it arrived. Almost like they had the expression is this a joke. All the breading was off of the calamari on the dish. I took a bite of one of them and it was so hard I could not chew it. No decent kitchen would allow an order of overcooked calamari like this out of the kitchen. A positive was the sauce served with it was really good. Nobody could eat this appetizer. One of my sons said this is the worst calamari I have ever experienced. We ordered our food. A few minutes later salads and dinner rolls arrived. Our salads were good but the garlic rolls were stale and hard and not good. No butter was offered with them as well. After a bit our entrees arrived and the night just was about to get worse. I ordered the Chicken Marsala. The mushroom sauce was delicious but I then took a bite of the chicken and it was extremely overcooked and also bland. So I just ate the mushroom sauce and spaghetti. My wife ordered the Chicken Alfredo. I noticed she was not eating it. I asked her how it was and she whispered to me "it smells and tastes fishy"! I took a bite and she was right. My son's fiancé ordered cheese tortellini and she really enjoyed her dish. One of my sons had the Chicken Parmesan and he described it as cafeteria quality. My other son ordered the special and all I got out of him is was "this might be the first time I have no interest in taking home my leftovers from a restaurant". This was the first Italian restaurant we have ever been to where no Parmesan cheese was on the table and no one offered Parmesan cheese. As you can see our experience in this restaurant was subpar. We were so excited to try this new Italian restaurant in Olathe. After our experience it is not worth trying again. Olive Garden still stands as the best Italian restaurant in Olathe. read more

We had Chicken parm n spaghetti, n eggplant Parmesan . It was served with salad n garlic knots . The food was exceptional! Chicken was juicy n flavorful. Per one visit, I can say that I hope they use the next six months to improve on their service and food quality. It tasted like they're holding back on the spices to cater to those with bland tastebuds. Kansas Citians are a lot more adventurous than Bella's might seem to think. Bring those bold flavors where warranted. People will thank you for it. Per service, management needs to provide adequate training to their service staff. I was there with a large party and the severs seemed to be honestly confused on who ordered what. Not a good look. Some basic leadership by management should help with clearing up that sort of confusion. Do I want Bella's to succeed? Of course I do. I'd love to see them fix some basic problems asap. read more

My husband and I decided to stop in for dinner. I had baked ziti & my husband had spaghetti & meatballs. The ziti was fantastic and the spaghetti & meatballs also good - my husband really liked the meatballs. We liked that a salad is included - it's simple, but very fresh. If we had a "complaint", it would be the bread. French bread would be a better choice? Our waiter was friendly and efficient. The other staff was also very friendly. I was happy to see another business move into the old Applebees location, so my wife and I decided to try it for lunch recently. They did a nice job updating the interior, and had nice Italian music playing. We ordered two dished off the lunch menu. My wife had the chicken alfredo, and I had baked tortellini. Their marinara is sweeter and less zesty, but had a very good taste. The alfredo sauce in my wife's dish was excellent. The salad dressings, bread, and everything else was very good as well. The service was adequate. The waiter was friendly, but not the most attentive. We were not offered freshly grated cheese like I saw some other tables receive, which was very disappointing. It would have improved my dish. We will definitely give them another try. Hopefully the service will be up to speed by then, and I can bump the review to five stars. read more

Was excited to try, there seemed to be a bit of hype about the quality of food atmosphere etc.. Disappointing experience. Staff seems to be "lightly " trained at best. Our waiter while friendly is not versed in the menu. We asked basic questions like was there sausage in a couple of dishes or usually ground beef would be in another but it wasn't listed. He didn't know and didn't offer to check. The salads are just sad. A few clumps of white iceberg lettuce some sliced canned olives and the worst looking slice of unripe roma tomato. The lasagna was bland as was the ziti. The seafood combo was ok, plump shrimp, 3-4 muscles, 3-4 clams and what tasted like jarred marinara sauce. Wanted to support this local business, but unfortunately our first experience was underwhelming at best. I hope the owners are paying attention to this honest feedback to make improvements. Your staff DESPERATELY needs training from the front door to the back of the house. Our greeting was by two hosts bickering and the one that seemed most annoyed (wearing grey sweatpants & not at all dressed for FOH) started to walk us to a table and then got confused and took us back to the front door and walked off without a word as to why. The host still standing there ignored us and sat another table that walked in after we had been brought back up there. We were perplexed as to what was going on since there were plenty of tables open. We explained to the non-sweatpants host that we were still waiting to be seated and the host said "yeah she just does what she wants around here and it's annoying". Once at our table, we were brought an order of garlic knots. They were dry, lacked any garlic flavor and seemed like overcooked Pillsbury rolls. I asked for marinara, but that wasn't brought until half way through our entrees. We also ordered wine when the bread was brought to the table, but it didn't come for another 10+ minutes until after we placed our entree orders and our salads were delivered. Unimpressed by the wine list as well, either $10/glass for a cheap brand or $48/bottle for mid-range, but no in between selections by glass. Onto the salad and entrees. The salads are super skimpy and have a few pieces of iceberg with small slivers of red onion and two tiny diced black olives. The "house dressing" tasted like watered down Italian. My mom and I ordered chicken dishes (Marsala & Piccata), both chicken breasts were overcooked and the sauces were coagulated and flavorless. Our server continuously walked past our table, but never stopped to ask how we were doing. We eventually had to ask the busser for our check which was ran by a manager. We were hoping for a true family owned place but.... Sadly we didn't feel we got that. Our meal was not freshly prepared and nor is the sauce. Lots of help but untrained. Hope they can improve because it's nice to have a new Italian place in town. But don't try to fool people about authentic food when we have many fabulous Italian restaurants around. read more

Well giving the 5 stars but they need to earn it yet. They are new and clearly understaffed and going thru opening pains. Vibe and decor is warm. The host desk was more confused than a desert rat in a snowstorm. The rolls nice the food excellent. Prices of food and wine reasonable. Its the food quality and generous serving will keep me coming back. Keep it up. The service was painfully slow. took over an hour to get our food and had to ask for our salads. Dressing was excellent but offered no choices. Again. giving them 5 stars as I can only imagine how tough it is to get a new locally owned restaurant up and going. The menu says it's family owned. It would be nice to have a little history of the family that owns it on the menu. . read more

Wonderful spot! The food is generous portions and is fresh. The service was kind and attentive. We ordered the Lasagna and Chicken Parmesan but dug in too quickly to take a picture! The entrees come with a salad and delicious rolls. We will be back! read more

Not impressed with food. Ordered Lasagne. Received a small dish with lasagne type ingredients. Very soupy. Salad was just okay, lettuce leaves, not much else. Probably won't go Again. read more

My girlfriend and I walked in on a Saturday afternoon and were seated immediately. It was very quiet and cozy with intimate, bistro-style lighting. Our server, Ada, was great! Drinks and appetizers were out quickly and DELICIOUS! Highly recommend the stuffed mushrooms. My girlfriend ordered the spaghetti and meatballs. The sauce was fantastic! Flavorful and authentic-tasting. I ordered the Tortellini Michelangelo which is served in an Alfredo sauce which was clearly homemade and tasted amazing. We will absolutely be returning! read more

Bella's Italian is absolutely amazing! The food is always incredibly fresh and full of flavor--you can really taste the quality in every dish. Everything we've tried has been consistently great, and you can tell a lot of care goes into their cooking. Hands down one of our favorite Italian spots. Highly recommend! read more

Very cheap and not good, my boyfriends and I are both very sick now because of the food.

We sat at the bar because there was a wait. The bartender greeted us with. "What are you drinkin?" He was not familiar with the menu when I asked questions. This was out first time here. We ordered stuffed mushrooms, which were unremarkable. We received our salads before our appetizer came out. The salad that came with the entree consisted of iceberg lettuce and croutons. They only offer bottled dressing. My husband ordered Shrimp Marinara which was not bad except for the large chunks of raw garlic. I ordered the special only to find out that the board was wrong and it actually wasn't the special. And the bartender said they couldn't make it for me even though they had all the ingredients for the dish. I ended up with Tortellini Michelangelo which was bad. Their Alfredo sauce is underwhelming. My mistake, it's the same sauce that they put on the mushrooms. The bartender was uninterested, couldn't answer my questions, and ignored us until it was time to drop the check. We sat with every single dirty plates that we had used. Or first time, as I said, and probably the last. read more
