Hands down best authentic Italian restaurant in Lee's Summit. Quaint atmosphere, excellent service, and overall fantastic dining experience.

Phenomenal. It's taken me 4 years or so to make it in here, but it won't take 4 more to come back again. Very small 25 person capacity dining room, open limited days of the week and hours make this place unique. The food and drinks make it extra unique. We are such bad customers. We have wanted to try this gem for ages but could never get in because of schedules. We would casually check and see if we could walk in, but we never could. That should have been a clue that we should have moved Farfalle to the top of our priority list. Early on a Friday, we called and asked if we could get in at 4:30, and they had room for us. Thank goodness they did, and we thank goodness we went! The restaurant is small, intimate (maybe room for 28), and full of charm. Everyone who works there is so happy to be a part of Farfalle and happy to make your evening a delight. The wine list is simple and very reasonably priced. Even with the attractive price points, they have winners on that list. The wine choice was followed up with an order of bruschetta. Look at the photo, and you can almost smell the basil (grown and picked on site) and taste the fresh tomatoes that are firm and perky. I had the chicken parmigiana, which was tender, juicy, and seasoned just right with a fantastic sauce. Get it get it get it! My wife had the salmon, and as odd as this will sound, she said, "It is the best salmon I have ever had." We have had Alaskan salmon, Cooper River Salmon, and Norwegian salmon, so that is a bold statement. I had wanted to dine here since their opening. The wait staff is informed and efficient although my server was extremely loud and brusque. The menu was promising with items not generally found in average Italian restaurants and may have been a great experience if executed well and servers had been in an attitude of service. Over sauced, overcooked, over seasoned and way too Americanized There was a lot of it though. Celebrating my birthday was promised to be really special but I had to ask for it and my companion was ignored; I guess the server assumed we would share my less than special cannoli. They've done a good job on the ambiance in this very small space. Cute Italian restaurant in downtown lees summit. Great cocktail and wine options, with beer options as well. Staff Abby Gale is friendly and fun. Place is small, but has a warm personality. Limited appetizers, however the shrimp with amogio was worth the $15 price tag. 5 large shrimp, perfect for two to three people. The pastas were great! Sauces had a very homestyle Italian flair. My sister and I had been curious about Farfalle Bistro so we tried it out for dinner on a Thursday. It's relatively small inside, maybe seating 20 people, but very cozy. For the most part, we really enjoyed the food. The arancini were relatively bland but we really liked the sugu sauce they came with. The house salad came with a lovely vinaigrette. The Farfalle with Vodka Tomato Cream was very flavorful but a bit too spicy for my sister. I had the Farfalle with Prosciutto and Peas and would happily get that again - it was also great to mix 50/50 with the spicier vodka sauce. The surprise star of the show was a seasonal bruschetta with cranberries, pomegranate and chèvre - I need to find a similar recipe because it was just fabulous. I was disappointed in general. I had been here once before, and enjoyed the salmon parmesan, and the atmosphere is cozy and intimate, so I was excited to treat my friend to a birthday dinner here. When I made the reservation, they asked if it was a special occasion, and promised to make the night special. I assumed it meant free dessert, which is pretty standard. They even had a birthday placard on the table when we arrived. The first thing I noticed was the waitress was SUPER LOUD and abrasive. She SHOUTED the list of specials and drink options (including ingredients) to every table that came in, and it was OBNOXIOUS. My friend and I couldn't even hold a normal conversation because the dining space is cramped, and the waitress's recitations were being shouted practically right over our shoulders over and over again. The space does have poor acoustics, but did she REALLY have to bellow out the menu??? For starters, we ordered a seasonal bruschetta ($12). I believe it had apples on it. It was way too sweet, more like a dessert, and the bread was soggy. Not appealing. My friend had a glass of wine ($12.) Then, I had the salmon parmesan ($32), which was as delicious as I remembered. So, there's that. My friend had the Farfalle with Peas and Prosciutto ($26,) and she said it was way over sauced and not well-prepared. (She's a skilled Italian cook.) The waitress basically ignored us for the duration of the meal. I had to ask if my friend got a birhday dessert, and the waitress said "yeah, you can have a cannoli" and unceremoniously plopped it on the table, without even asking me if I wanted dessert. I wish I had let it go, because my friend called her over to point out that she had ignored me, and so I ordered pumpkin bread pudding. It was less than stellar - not eggy or custardy at all - it was more like stale croutons with caramel sauce over them. I ended up not eating more than a bite or two. It was NOT good. And, definitely not worth $12.00. And my friend said the cannoli was not authentic, and way too sweet. She also only ate a bite. This restaurant definitely has it's good points, but if you want an intimate evening with a friend or a date, I don't recommend it. It's noisy, expensive (102.00 plus tip for two) and the service is not attentive, and in fact, highly annoying. read more

Small and quaint restaurant (seating 15-20 people). I recommend making reservations to be sure you have a table. Service is great but a bit slow since there is only 1 server working but we didn't mind. The chef/owner came out to greet us to make sure we were satisfied with everything (love that). My favorite dish was the apps, the bruschetta. It was quite delicious, best I've ever had in Kansas City. Their salad is also delicious, nothing like I've ever had and I think it's because of the dressing they use. Overall food and service were great! My husband and I had a great date night. read more

Found this place during a search and looked interesting, so the wife and I decided to give it a try. It is a small bistro that seats about 25. The menu has a handful of standard items and a few specials. That said, everything we had was really amazing. my wife had the house salad and I had the pasta with homemade meatballs and Italian sausage. Both were really good. We started with fried rice balls and ended the meal with peach tart and vanilla bean ice cream. Everything waa made with the highest quality ingredients and you could really sense the attention to detail in their food. Do yourself a favor and give this place a try. A quaint little restaurant in downtown Lee's Summit. By little, I mean the maximum capacity is 25 people. And that would be packed. The operating plan is simple - offer what you can do well or don't offer it at all. Their entree menu offered two choices - both pasta's one with a red sauce and one with a garlic cream sauce. They offer a 3rd choice, the special, I understand changes weekly. Last we we enjoyed the special - salmon with a garlic cream sauce, mashed potatoes and asparagus. Dinners include a green salad beforehand with the choice of blue, feta or mozzarella cheese crumbles on the pre dressed house dressing. Oil based with PLENTY of garlic made for one delicious dressing. Warm bread with a seasoned oil oil rounded out the meal. Everything was delicious. Our entrees were priced at $18.99. The regular entrees with protein would have been a couple bucks less. They also offered 3 appetizers and 3 cookie type desserts. My understanding is everything is made in house by the owner. Great job and we're looking forward to our next visit. If there was a way to cut down on the sound (loud talkers at other tables) it would have been more enjoyable but it seems to be acceptable anymore.... read more

This is the first bad review I've ever given. Everything about the place is cheap and if I had to bet my life on it, I would bet that the food is not freshly made. My wife and I ordered two different dishes but they tasted exactly the same. Same sauce, she just got chicken and I got prosciutto. I'm a big foodie and I would just hate for a real good lover to go and get faked out like we did. I appreciate their hustle but I know good food and that ain't it. read more

Place was quaint, food was okay, service was good until food was incorrectly made. Ordered food to be specially made, and when brought out was not made the way it was ordered. Waitress blamed the Chef that it wouldn't be that dish if it was served the way I asked for it. I was not going to say anything until that comment came out, then I stated "I would have or something different if I would have known you were not going to make it the way I ordered it". she proceeded to walk off with no additional comment at that time. No apology, no we can correct it for you. She then came one other time and only addressed my wife to ask how her dinner was going, didn't address me. Later passed and kind of tossed the check on the table and walked on past. Then came back, and we asked that she not be so rude, and she proceeded to raise her voice in front of the whole establishment about how we were being rude, and telling us that " 25 other people int the place were enjoying themselves". The salad dressing was tasteless and the pasta with cream sauce was too rich and had no flavor. When we asked for a sprinkle of parmesan on the meal we were told it wouldn't be 25 cents extra. I've eaten at this restaurant twice. Here's the good and not so good... Good - Food. Both my wife and I think the food is very, very good. Bread is fresh, and the salads, especially the dressing are very tasty. No booze for us this particular night, but they seem to have a good wine selection and cocktail options. Not so good - Service. We've been twice, and the average wait time from entree order until we got our food has been 45 minutes. What I don't understand is, they only offer four entrees, and the restaurant is small, so not a lot of dine in customers. The wait staff seems very unorganized, and constantly apologizes for you having to wait. Bella's on 291 has way more menu items, and food is served 10 minutes after you order. Forty five minutes is a LONG time to wait for food. I hope this place makes it. We love the small atmosphere, and the people are nice. The most amazing Italian food. The owner is a sweetheart. Comes by table to check on you. She is the most talented cook! The place is extremely small which makes it a quaint romantic date night or a great place for friends to catch up but since it's so small if you get a group or two that thinks they are the only guests the volume is overpowering! A friend and I went there for our annual Christmas dinner and we could not even have a conversation! I could not even shout to get her to hear me My suggestion would be to put a sign on a tripod when you enter that says something like "One of the special things about this place is our small quaint atmosphere, however, for everyone to have an equally enjoyable experience we appreciate you being considerate of the volume of your voice." Probably could be worded differently but I've seen such signs at speakeasy's where they don't allow cell phones and sports bar type volume,as it is supposed to be all about the atmosphere. Finally made it to Farfalle Bistro after hearing about the uniqueness of it and also due to the fact that they are only open Fridays and Saturdays from 4-9pm. I will say that the service was good and the small seating area was quaint and welcoming and you could actually carry on a conversation and hear each other. Now the most important part...the food. Well, I'm so very sorry to say that the food--and we all had something different--was very disappointing and nothing to write home about. We all felt the same about our choices. The "sugo " was SO sweet that there were barely any Italian spices you could taste because of the sugar overload. I do like a tinge of sweet in my tomato sauces but not like that. With the pasta entree I had you could add a protein for an additional charge. I added a chicken breast. It was pretty bland and covered in that sweet sauce. Want bread? That's extra too for a small basket of bread and small dipping sauce. I will say that we tried the cannoli for dessert and it was the best item of the evening. That I would recommend. But all in all, our party agreed that now that we've been there, we definitely were not interested in coming back. It's just not the type of Italian food like we were expecting. read more

Overall the food is decent, not amazing, but is a good addition for Downtown Lees Summit. It is a small place that seats approximately 25 people. We had 8 pm reservations on a Saturday night. We arrived a few minutes early and we were immediately seated. FYI: By 8 pm, most of the Downtown Lees Summit restaurants have already started to empty. Unfortunately, at our "late" arrival time, all the specials were sold out; I would have loved to try the Chicken Spiedini and the lasagna. We were left with only three options for dinner. The meals come with a small loaf of bread for the entire table; we were not offered additional bread, but perhaps had we asked they would have brought one. In addition, a choice of soup or salad comes with the meal. The salad was the best part of my meal, it had a great tasting dressing, real blue cheese crumbles, and crispy croutons. Even though we arrived at a time with only a few people that had not been served, it took over 30 minutes just to get our salads. Dinner finally arrived approximately 45 minutes after we ordered. The farfalle and meatballs with the Sugo sauce was a little sweet for my taste. The serving was a generous portion of farfalle, but I believe it only had a few small meatballs. We asked for some extra parmesan cheese and some red pepper flakes; the server only brought out a tiny amount of each; it wasn't worth the effort to request more. We purchased a container of Italian cookies that no one in our party enjoyed; the cookies were flavorless. I am not sure if they offer any other deserts, we were not given any options. Overall, this place is an okay value for the food portion and quality. I am not sure if the time to get the food is normal or if there was an issue in the kitchen. Our server certainly didn't apologize or seem to be concerned that it took so long to get our food, so perhaps this is normal. If you do go, I suggest making reservations for an early time to ensure that you will have more menu choices. The three main items on the menu are only average at best, but perhaps the specials are better. I did enjoy the bistro cafe type ambiance as something different. The place is very clean and cozy. The tables are very close together, but I don't mind that type of seating. Considering the overall lack of any decent restaurants anywhere in Eastern Jackson County, the Farfalle Bistro is probably worth checking out. read more

Farfalle is THE place my wife and I go when we want a relaxing dining experience with incredible food. We live about an hour from the bistro and it's very worth the drive for the food and experience. This is no chain restaurant that only has the intention of turning tables as quickly as possible. Farfalle does an awesome job at letting you take the time to actually enjoy your food (which is some of the best Italian food I've had in the KC area) and not quickly get you out the door. The interior is small, but that's perfect for the type of restaurant and dining experience. We fully expect to spend at least 90 minutes in the restaurant--more if we get an appetizer, drinks, meal, dessert, and coffee. Our favorites are the Farfalle with Garlic Cream sauce and the tortellini bake. Both are incredible. read more

What a disappointment! Went for lunch and the food is okay but oh my! You order at the counter, pick up your own food which is served with plastic utensils, plastic salad bar type containers AND you are not paying plastic, serve yourself prices. This is a very small place and you can't wash 20 plates and silverware at lunch? Would not recommend and will not return. Too bad, because it could be such a cute place and true bistro atmosphere. Skip this one. We went at 11:30 when it opened and didn't get our lunch until 12:30! It is very, very small. The menu is written on the chalkboard behind the counter and difficult to see. My friend ordered the grilled cheese sandwich for $8.99. It came on a small plate with a couple of grill marks on the white bread and that was it...no chips, no pickle spear nothing. I ordered the Green Bean Fritatta. It came out at 12:30 on a small plate, green beans still hard and FULL (and I do mean FULL) of uncooked onions. Any other ingredient was undetectable and it was not seasoned, not even a hint of salt! We ordered soft drinks that came in a can. The prices were too high for what we got and the wait was way, way too long. I'm not usually very picky but this was really not good. My friend left half her sandwich and I was only able to eat about ¼ of the frittata before I decided it was just too awful to try to eat. The waitress never came back to see how our meal was. On top of all that I was violently sick by late afternoon and the rest of the evening. Do yourself a favor and find another place in Lee's Summit to have lunch or dinner - there are LOTS of wonderful places to eat but this is not one of them. read more
