I feel some what inadequate to review this place because I don't have an extensive knowledge of wine. I stopped in with a friend during their grand opening. The shop is run by a husband and wife team who are extremely knowledge and friendly. They have a decent selection size. They said they are not trying to be a boutique and their prices are competitive with Costco and other shops. We ended up each doing a glass of wine. They had 3 red and 3 white options. They also had beer by the bottle. We sat and enjoyed our wine, listened to the music and chatted. It was a wonderful and relaxing way to start our evening. read more

I love Red Door Wine Store and the fact that it's so close to home! You can browse their selection for a bottle of wine or you can sit down, relax, and enjoy a glass of wine right there in the store at an adorable table. They also have a back room that you can reserve for wine tastings/pairings. In my opinion, that would make for a perfect bachelorette party or date! My girlfriend and I have walked past this place on several occasions while visiting downtown Lee's Summit. During this trip we decided to check it out since we are both big fans of wine. We were immediately impressed with the huge selection of wines here and they not only sell bottles but sell glasses of wine or flights if you want to try a few different ones. If wine is not your thing no worries! They have plenty of beer and hard alcohol options also. The environment is upscale yet casual, there are several high top tables and couches and the main area and a big room in the back with lots of tables. This is the perfect (!) intimate wine store. Although the wine selection is somewhat small, the choice of wines is wonderful, and the owners are excellent with their knowledge and recommendations without sounding pretentious. Sometimes life is sad. For example: I just discovered Red Door Wine Store, but because it's almost a 30 minute drive from my home I doubt I'll be returning any time soon. But that doesn't change the fact that I think this business is 5 Star all the way! If you read the name and are good with context clues, you have probably surmised that this is a wine shop. That's true, but that's only part of the story. They also sell a small but decidedly well curated selection of beer and spirits. I found beers and scotches that I would have loved to have given a good home. And the cherry on top is that the prices are pretty dang legit. But the sprinkles on top of the cherry is that not only can you buy your beverages here, but you can also enjoy them! They have a great variety of wines available by the glass for your imbibing pleasure. There are a number of little tucked away spots to enjoy a glass of vino with a friend. The back room also seems to be set up to encourage tastings. In fact, the day I was there they were setting up for a whiskey tasting. Be still my heart. The even smaller sprinkles on top of the other sprinkles? The staff here is incredibly friendly and helpful. I saw them interacting with a variety of guests, and it really seems like this place fosters a sense of family. I would totally be a part of their booze family if I lived closer. Came upon this wine shop when strolling downtown LS. I am not a huge wine guy but do enjoy a nice glass of beer. The nice lady was very helpful and knowledgable about the small beer selection they had and sold me a four pack of Firestone Walker Double Jack (which was awesome). Before I left I had their pale ale on tap (don't remember which one). I wish I had written the beer info down because it was very, very good. I'd like to add yet another excellent review! I'm not from Lee's Summit, but my husband and I were in town watching his Little play basketball. We had some time between games so we took a stroll downtown. I'm a wine lover and he's a craft beer lover. This store had something for the both of us. We loved the decor and would model our own store after it if we had one. The best part was being able to sip a glass of wine while browsing the store. We also really enjoyed chatting with the owner. It really made it a personal and fun experience. I only wish we lived closer so that we could enjoy more tastings. We'll definitely be back on our way through next time! Bravo! read more

Sometimes I am reminded how much Lee's Summit has changed since I was growing up. There was a time when I would have challenged anyone who went there on purpose! Back in the day, Lee's Summit had Johnny Ray's Drive In, Waids, and a farm store. That was about it. Fast forward and I actually live in Lee's Summit and find it a great place to eat, drink, and socialize. Who would have thought? Soon after moving here I happened to be downtown one Saturday and wandered into Red Door. Surprise, surprise: a real quality wine and spirits store! Comfortable and relaxed seating, friendly and knowledgeable staff, very good selection of both wines and spirits, and an atmosphere that encourages one to sample a pour in peace while making a selection - or not. What about service, you may ask. That first time we had earlier found a distilled spirit at another local bar and asked if they carried it. No, they did not, but they would order it for us. Two days later they called, quoted us a price (very reasonable), and said they would hold a bottle for us until we could make it in. Gee, personal service! I dropped a star because it is not all that easy to find. It is a smallish place across from the depot on Main Street. I know because I had walked past it a number of times without noticing it - yes, my loss. While Johnny Ray's Drive In is still there and Waid's is thankfully gone, places like Red Door have changed the landscape of Lee's Summit so it is not only a great place to live but it is worth driving to! read more

Sweetest staff and owners. Usually have a tasting on Thursdays. Good wine selection as well as beer and scotch. Hang out and have a drink with friends - they'll even open the bottle you just purchased. Just don't stand up - seating is limited and folks will vulture your seat unapologetically. Did I mention scotch? Good pours and a giant ice cube. They have Laphroaig - that'll guarantee repeat visits from me (at least). Prices are nice and they're in an excellent walking neighborhood. Hadn't been to the Red Door because I heard it was a wine shop. I'm not so much a wine guy as I am a beer guy so my friend suggested we check out the Wednesday beer tasting. (They served the 2 oz tasters in an actual glass which is a nice touch). The place was very inviting so after our sampling my wife and I purchased and enjoyed a couple of nice brews on their couch. The atmosphere was great, the gal who was working was very friendly and they had beers I haven't tried before (no easy feat). We really enjoyed ourselves. The only downside was prices aren't marked on most of the beer singles for sale. I'm sure if you ask they'll tell you, but asking a price and then moving on and asking another price and moving on to ask another price just seems like you're a cheapskate. My only recommendation for improvement would be to have singles prices either on the shelf or on the bottle. With that being said, I ordered a specialty beer that is usually $6-$7 per 12 oz bottle at Gomers, so I wasn't expecting an $8 total tab but I was a little taken aback by the $12 price tag on my selection. Thankfully the sticker shock was numbed by my 16% ABV brew. ;) We'll be back. read more

My husband and I wandered into this place one fateful Saturday night. A man was playing music and all of the customers inside yelled at us to join them. Wine and music? Sounded great to me! They have a wide selection of wine and beer. I've been back many times since we were joyously coerced into entering. You can buy bottles of wine, or have wine by the glass. Same with beer. I love going when there is a musician playing. It's a fun atmosphere. They also offer wine and beer tasting sometimes, and the staff are always very knowledgeable. One thing to note, they don't allow tipping on debit/credit card receipts, so maybe bring some cash if you like to reward good service! read more
