A) I love that they list the ABV of their cocktails, bc as a mid-weight lover of drinks, I want to drink all the drinks without getting the worst hangover in the world; B) I have yet to meet a cocktail I didn't like here! Every cocktail is so well balanced, and their menu describes each cocktail's flavor profile pretty damn well! Stopped by Mean Mule over the 4th of July weekend and was seriously impressed. The cocktails? Creative, balanced, and super refreshing on a hot summer day. Paloma here is amazing! If you like grapefruit with tequila this is it. They serve some of the best drinks in KC and love their space. It used to be small but they expanded and more seatings. Yay. I booked the Agave Lounge to celebrate the launch of my husband's book (America, Let Me In: A Choose Your Immigration Story if you're interested) and the team at Mean Mule absolutely knocked it out of the park. We were interested because we've been to their tasting room a few times and both my husband and I adore the variety and quality of cocktails and the incredibly warm and knowledgable service. The Agave Lounge was right next door and when we learned it was available we absolutely pounced! The space was perfect for our group of 20-25, they had their most popular cocktails on tap (delish Margs and Palomas) as well as beers and other non-alcoholic options for those of our party who weren't drinking. Jude was incredibly communicative leading up to the event and a joy to chat with during the real thing, too! Jeff also rocked!! They were very clear that they didn't serve food on premises but allowed us to bring our own and gave incredible recommendations (Tacos Valentina! Where I'm headed next to write a glowing review). The prices were clear, fair and laid out beforehand and we looked like incredibly fancy and sophisticated party planners when really we just sent a few emails and let the awesome Mean Mule staff do their thing. One of the best cocktail spots in the city. Mean Mule knows what they are doing. Their cocktails are delicious, inventive and well-balanced. I personally love their seasonal cocktail menu. Their southwest yet modern aesthetic is on point. Thank goodness they expanded their space so now there's more seating! They don't take reservations for under 7 people so you may have a bit of a wait or even be turned away. Their new "family table" can be reserved for 7-10 people at $10 per person which covers a round of spirit pours. Their Agave Lounge accommodates private parties of 14-50 people for a rental fee. So fun! My friend and I came here to grab a drink and as someone that isn't the biggest drinker (especially tequila lol), I really enjoyed Mean Mule! They do a lot of drinks with agave spirits here, and decided to try their Pickle's Punch Mocktail - with their Silver Agave. This was SO good! It had a really nice kick of spice to it and was really smooth to drink down. I was honestly surprised as I don't love tequila drinks that much, so I wasn't sure how I'd like this drink! They offer a whole bunch of other drinks that I definitely would like to come back and try, but the combo that I got was really good. The place is super cute and had a live DJ playing some background music as well. Downside is, it is a pretty small place so it might be hard to grab a seat, or you may have to wait a bit. So, I had seen this place as I wandered the Crossroads, but for some reason hadn't ever stopped. Holy cow, I didn't know what I was keeping myself from--I hope Mean Mule will become one of my regular spots! Mean Mule is in the Crossroads, and it is super tucked away next to the Parlor--plenty of parking on the street around 5 pm on a Thursday, but probably would be a bit more difficult at any time later than that or on weekends. The place has a Southwest vibe--leaning in to the agave nature of their spirits! It was pretty chill when I got there (about 5 pm on a Thursday), but was really picking up by the time I left at 7 pm (maybe try to get there early if you're wanting to get a seat!). When I got settled, the server told me about the seasonal cocktails and the classics (they have a QR code menu of course), and after ordering, he brought around these "passports" where if you drink all the seasonal drinks, you can get a bandana, which is cool with the theme of the place and definitely a motivator to drink all the seasonal drinks... Their theme for the seasonal cocktails was "Six days on the road in Middle America," highlighting different locations to visit around the Midwest (i.e. the Badlands, Flint Hills, Devil's Tower, etc) While there, I decided to take part in two of the seasonal cocktails: The Flint Hills and the Six Days on the Road--both I would definitely get again (but not until I try all the other ones...gotta get that bandana). Our server was really great at making sure we were equipped with a bottle of water (thanks!), and he was great at getting us all squared away (even though there ended up being 11 of us!). Coming in from a bordertown in Far West Texas, I'm used to the tart grapefruit juice taste with my tequila. She suggested a ranch water which was more my speed. I recently went on a day trip to Kansas City and a quick Google search led to my visit to Mean Mule Distilling Company. I visited in the late afternoon just as it opened, so I had the place to myself for the first half hour. There are plenty of cozy seating options and service was excellent. I went with 2 drinks from their seasonal menu. As seen in the pictures, they are beautifully hand-crafted with various fruity decor. I thought they did an excellent job at making my two cocktails. As someone who likes sweeter alcoholic beverages, the staff did an excellent job in picking something I would like! Overall, Mean Mule was the perfect pit stop during my Kansas City trip. Let me save you a few minutes of reading: Cocktail kits, delivered to your door, for free during Covid-19! The rest of what I have to say is just white noise. I purchased a Paloma Kit from them ($40 + tax) that came with a premium bottle of Mean Mule Silver Agave Spirit, some Jarrito's Grapefruit Sodas, and a handful of limes. Let me tell you, the value is real, but the quality is even better. At my age, I don't put back cocktails like I used to, so having one every so often is my speed. These are like something you'd get at the bar, and actually easy to make. The Mean Mule Silver (like Tequila, but not technically Tequila based on geography) brought my palette up to an adult level in no time. Back in the day, I'd have house margaritas somewhere, wake up with a splitting headache and vow to never drink one again, or at least until the next weekend rolled around. This one is smooth, refreshing, and the noticeable quality won't leave you lamenting a hangover like the cheap stuff might. I'm anxious to try out their actual space sometime, whenever that may be, but for now I'm content to take them up on their local delivery. read more

The drinks were so good! We took a bit of a risk with our choices and they were delish. They were well mixed and refreshing. The coppertone was very smooth and unexpected. The Sgt Melon Pepper was not too sweet and not too spicy. The only downside was the service. We chose to sit outside, and our waiter was very friendly and helpful at the beginning. Then, I think he forgot we were outside. He never came out to ask how our drinks were or if we would like another. My boyfriend went inside to ask for the check after about 45 min-1 hour without attention, and it still took a little bit to get the bill. Personally I would just go to buy a bottle the place is very small and the service was not that good considering the size. I don't go out much during these weird times. When I attended Yelp Zoom with Mean Mule Distilling, I realized how much I missed my Friday night margarita. My mom and I go to a Mexican restaurant every Friday and have a margarita. While the bartender, Jeff, from Mean Mule Distilling was demonstrating how to make a REAL margarita ( not one with a mix), I ordered their margarita kit. Jeff said their kits were available online and they deliver. The bar opened yesterday. At that moment, I got online and ordered the kit. I ordered it at 6:30 Thursday night. At 3:30 Friday I got a knock on my door and it was a masked man (from Mean Mule Distilling). He delivered my margarita kit. Quite a kit it is! The bottle of blue agave gold, made in Kansas City, Jeff said is 44$ . I believe it after seeing it in person. I could base this entire review on the bottle alone. I'm known to go to one of the better liquor stores for a good bottle of wine and I don't have sticker shock. And Mean Mule is special. The kit also included a bottle of their citrus simple sugar, seltzer water and a few limes. At the Zoom get together, Jeff explained how to decorate a glass with an origami orange peeling. I'll try it with the limes. I'm impressed with Mean Mule and can't wait to try it. They put the recipe on the bag along with the Venmo to tip the delivery without contact. read more
