You must check this place out!! Honestly, I had the BEST experience here. Their wine is delicious and their service is above and beyond! My guest and I popped in here to buy a bottle or two to-go..we ended up staying for a couple hours and walked out with a whole box of different wines! We met one of the owners (who was the kindest soul!) and we ended up staying for a wine tasting. Would totally recommend doing a tasting, all of their wines are delightful so you should really try a variety! Being in Kansas City and in the middle of the United States I wasn't sure what to expect from this wine bar, but the owners are from Oregon and actually grow their grapes more like they do on the West Coast. I learned a lot talking to the owners and staff here, they are very knowledgeable and definitely not pretentious! They also do wine slushies and sangrias which are so tasty! We got a couple to-go to enjoy while watching a movie back at our Airbnb. They had a lovely spot for outdoor seating and the vibe here was great. Love love love the hocus pocus theme decor- someone has great taste in holidays and movies. The Binx is my boo pillow and the now you're wine signs brought me a lot of joy. The wines were all very tasty and drinkable. We tried the cambourcin tasting, which let us taste similar grapes from different locations around Missouri. The one from Macon mo was our favorite. We also did the best sellers tasting, which had to be done at the bar. This allowed for some customization based on our personal preferences of more semi-sweet wines, which I really appreciated. I loved the 2017 cambourcin, which was aged in a steel barrel instead of oak, for its pure drinkability. The slushy for fall was a cider mixed with wine, which I really enjoyed. Service was great! Loved their costumes and their know how about the area. Definitely a great place to bring wine friends to in order to show off some of the local flair. read more

The place is cute and simple! The employees are knowledgeable and can answer all of your questions on the wines. The establishment sits in the city, with a little bit of outdoor seating in the front. HOWEVER, it's not the best winery in town by any means. Now, I was disappointed in the ranges of wines on their menu. I had a flight with all white wines, and they cater to mostly dry wine lovers. Asked for a menu and was directed to the QR code, which is fine except the online menu has ZERO descriptions for the pairings. We went to the bar to ask questions and the server had zero personality. Actually felt strongly that she was simply irritated by us even being there. Tried the red wine and chocolate pairing. 2 of the 3 wines were vinegar. The ricotta dip had no flavor. This is a cool little winery in the Crossroads just south of Downtown. Wait... what? There's a winery in downtown Kansas City? Don't you need space for a vineyard and grapes to make your wine? How is downtown Kansas City conductive to any of this? Well, vineyards are fun and all, but you don't always need one. KC Wineworks, along with a few other regional wineries, contracts with a few Missouri-based vineyards and has grapes delivered to the winery and the wine making process begins. Moving on, I'm not the largest wine connoisseur, which I've written about before, however I do like what they make here, especially the reds. I also like the barrel ages apple cider. I know what you're thinking, who would want to do that? Trust me, it's cool, smooth and tastes great while you're sitting outside on a deck during a nice spring or autumn evening. When I think winery, I do not think of downtown. I think of a drive somewhere away from the city. However, KC Wineworks does not fit that description since it is an urban winery located in the Crossroads of downtown Kansas City. There are a few of each type of wine: red, white, sparking, and cider. There are also seasonal specials, such as wine slushies during the summer and mulled wine during the winter. The drink options are a tasting, glass, or bottle. 7 tasting is $5 with each additional tasting being $1. If you do a tasting, definitely try the signature wines, which are the Crossroads Red and the Crossroads White. The Crossroads White is one of my favorites from here. My other pick is the Hibiscus Orange Apfel. Whatever you try, all are pleasant, well-balanced, easy to drink, and reasonably priced. A bottle ranges between $14 to $29, and there is a discount for a half or full case of wine if you want to stock up. There is also a neighborhood discount too if you live or work in the area. The wines are enjoyable alone, but a good venue space makes it even better. Tastings are done at the bar, but for anything else, you can stand at the bar, sit at a table, or lounge in a chair. It is an open space with plenty of natural lighting and cool artwork making it a perfect place to relax and sip some wine. There is also a photobooth area at the entrance. It is a fun and welcoming environment so do not be intimidated if you have zero knowledge on wine, because the staff is more than happy to talk about the wines. No appointments are necessary unless you have 6 or more in your group. Street parking is the only option outside of KC Wineworks, but the downtown location is much more convenient than having to make a drive out of the city. Food is not served aside from some thin breadsticks, but there are food options along with a few local breweries walking distance away so you can definitely have a fun afternoon or evening in this alcohol hub. Just make sure that KC Wineworks is one of your stop so you can enjoy decent Missouri wine. read more

An urban winery sounds like an oxymoron, but it exists in the crossroads of Kansas City! For wine connoisseurs, this is a fun place to go especially to celebrate an event. The place itself was very chic with a bar, plenty of seating, and unique artwork. We originally were going to do the wine tasting for $7 which ends at 9, but we realized that they required those who wine taste to stand at the bar the entire time. We instead opted to purchase one glass each and sit on the couches. For many of my friends and I, we aren't experienced in the art of choosing wine, and that was extremely evident. However, I do not feel like the staff was very patient and informative to assist in our decision making. They offer white wine, red wine, and ciders by the glass and also have alcoholic slushies. I opted to ordering the Chambourcin Rosé while my friends ordered Crossroads Apfel, Norton Nouveau, and Traminette. My personal favorite was the Norton Nouveau as it was dry and had an enjoyable after taste. The others were too sweet for my own personal liking. All in all, we enjoyed this winery, and I'm glad to have been able to try it out! read more

The space is open and bright, with lots of greenery and a glass-wall view of the barrels. They also have an amazing outdoor patio that was recently approved to stay as a permanent fixture. Nice location down in the crossroads area of KC. Started off with a flight of white wines all from Missouri. I'm not much of a white wine drinker and mostly prefer a good red. Our server was very knowledgeable about the wines she was serving and gave us a good description of what we would be tasting. The space was small but would be a great place to unwind after a long day at work. There is also a deck built outside and is dog Friendly. Only thing that might make this a little better is that when you are doing a wine tasting you have to stand at the bar when sitting down and being able to enjoy your tasting would be much better. When people think of delicious wine they think of Napa, the Loire Valley, and the East Crossroads in KCMO. Wait, what? On the whole, KC may not be a worldwide wine destination, but KC Wineworks is certainly destination-worthy. In the past, I've been burned by some other midwest wines that taste like Juicy Juice that was left out in the sun, sprinkled with Always Save granular sugar and served up as if it was fancy. Simply put, that's not the case here where the wine is quality, balanced and made by people who know their wines. The grapes are locally grown and sourced, aged in the back and ready at just the right time. They have loads of different blends to try out, so I'm confident that wine-o's and casual wine folks can find something they like here. The most recent that I tried is their Chambourcin which is a dryer red wine, although still smooth and a touch sweet. It's easily some of the best locally made wine I've tried yet. I snagged a bottle to bring as a gift for a holiday get together. They also make a Chambourcin Rosé that sounds good, and one more that caught my eye for next time is the "Crossroads Apfel" which is a carbonated cider. I'd recommend popping into their tasting room on a First Fridays or on some chilly, holiday-feeling winter night to try them out. You can do a tasting of multiple wines (five I believe) for $7, and the space is inviting, open and comfortable. Tl:dr; A wonderful addition to the eastern half of the Crossroads which fills a friendly, hyper-local niche for an urban winery that actually makes very good wines. read more

The wine is excellent...I'm particularly fond of their white wines I'm typically beer, whisky or cocktail person but I'm always happy with wines I get here. Start with the tasting menu (5 wine tasting for $8) to find the ones you like. It also has a very laid back atmosphere...not loud or chaotic like many nearby places. Definitely give it a try. Very good wine! I felt a little bit bad and uncomfortable trying two or three of them just to determine what glass I wanted because I think they wanted me to just go ahead and pay for the tasting. Which I would have done had we not been to a few places prior. I ended up getting one of the rose wines but it was between that and the house white which was great and my friends split a bottle of that! The ladies were nice the area itself is open and cleanly decorated. It's located in a great spot downtown, right down the street from The Brick. Something that surprised me is that there was very little signage outside, so I had a hard time locating it at first! Situated in the Crossroads along with 4 microbreweries and 2 distilleries, KC Wineworks knows how to hold its own! They have definitely raised my wine expectations, considering I was good with the $5 bottles at my local liquor store. So admittedly, my palate could use some refinement. The wine stewards here are both passionate and informative. Their wines are more on the dry side, balanced, and refreshing. I really took to their cider, the Crossroads Apfel, because of the tart finish. You can taste the amazing Jonathan apples. I left with a bottle. I am also a fan of the Traminette and the Chambourcin Rose. Don't just take my word for it though. Come in and have a wine tasting! You'll find it easy to get settled in whether at the bar, on the couch or the high-tops with KC artwork as the backdrop. Happy drinking! read more

Pretty good experience, certainly not disappointed! We did both the red and white wine tasting (3 wines for $10). The tasting included simply sitting at your own table, the server gave you the wines and ran through the names and most distinguishing features. Overall, in my opinion the wines were just okay. I really did enjoy my time here and the server was knowledgeable and friendly. She was happy to answer the couple questions we had. I think a more involved experience with wine profiles and wine that I personally enjoyed a little more would have increased my rating of KC Wineworks. The wine here is so good! We had the pleasure of meeting the vineyard owner. He really knew his grapes. I was pleasantly surprised to find out they do not add sugar to their wine. This seems to be a common trait in the midwest wineries, so this is very refreshing to hear! I was a little bummed to see quite a few of the wine on the tasting list was either sold out or hadn't arrived yet. Tasting 5 wines costs around $7, this is a pretty standard price for tasting. They also give a nice amount for tasting that is always nice! We ended up buying a bottle of the Traminette ($19), I can't wait to open! Make sure you bring your ID, it doesn't matter if you're 60. Man, I just adore this place. It's such a cute little urban winery located right in the Crossroads. I stumbled upon them last fall during a First Friday's weekend and now we always make sure to stop in every First Friday. One of my favorite things about KC Wineworks is that they offer seasonal drinks and they aren't loaded with sugar and overly sweet. I am just not someone who enjoys sweet cocktails or wine so this is definitely the place for me. (I'm sure they have something for those of you that do enjoy a sweet drink) The first time I stopped in, they were serving a frozen red sangria that I couldn't drink fast enough- it was so good! I also notice that they rotate their ciders seasonally, and again, these ciders are not like the sweet ciders most people are used to. They are definitely more on the dry side. I have tried a handful of different flavors but one of my favorite was this Hibiscus Orange cider that I think they had towards the end of fall last year. It was so fragrant and bubbly and I'm hoping they bring it back sometime! They typically have other little vendors set up during First Fridays as well; one time it was a woman who was selling her own drawings and tea towels and another instance it was a vendor selling "adult" flavored cotton candy! (Cottontale KC- check her out!) I love the atmosphere here as well- it's got a bit of an industrial feel to it. We almost always find seating, even during First Fridays. They have quite a few tables located in their back room. Definitely check them out next time you're in the area! read more

KC Wineworks is a wonderful surprise in the Crossroads. I am more of a craft beer and spirits guy but have been venturing into wines more recently so when my friend Carey asked if we could stop in there for something before trying the new Thai place nearby I said of course. I didn't realize we were meeting friends of hers there to try a new wine slushie they were testing and her friends were about to leave since it closed in 15 minutes : / I went to the counter and instead of being told anything about their impending closing time lurking around the corner my questions (and I had a lot , lol ) were met by Kelsey and Lindsay with nothing but patience and interesting information about all of the wines crafted On-site and offers of free samples and even the suggestion I purchase a flight of 5 tasters for $7 ($8 for Reserve wines). I said to one of them , "oh but you're closing in a few minutes and I don't want to be one of THOSE guests". I was warmly and sincerely told that they may not let more guests in at that time but anyone inside is welcome to stay and drink and Even continue ordering as long as they'd like. WOW! A first class approach! To top it off all the wines I tried including the 2014 Crossroads white ( blend of 3 grapes also used In their wine slushies) and the 2014 Chambourcin were quite enjoyable. They are even testing a cider that sounded great! So in addition to several great micro-breweries we have a new "winery" in the Crossroads. Maybe with my new found appreciation for wine I'll have to go back and buy a bottle and also give Tannin another try. Vodka seems so 2015 for me now lol! read more

It's easy to split a bottle of wine or two with a group (I think the bottle we split was only around $15/16). They are also happy to let you sample wines before purchasing!!
