About six months ago or so I went in to get a multi pack of beer and I was pretty excited to discover that they have a huge wall of inventory from all different breweries that put these multipacks together to choose from. I found one that sounded cool, brought it home, and as I was unloaded them into the fridge I noticed they were MONTHS expired. Now, I know that with beer sometimes that doesn't matter so much, but it does when it's an IPA, and I feel like it should be disclosed that you're purchasing an expired product. All of that being said, a few more months passed and I decided to be more vigilant. I guess I'll have to really check each time I buy beer here from here on out. What frustrates me is that this happened to me again on my last visit. This time I went for a local multi pack from Martin City and I couldn't find an expiration date anywhere on the outside packaging but I thought surely it won't happen again. How wrong I was. All of the beers were again MONTHS expired. To be honest I was super disappointed and a bit upset. Had I noticed in the parking lot I would have returned but it wasn't worth my gas to go back so we drank them despite some potential flavor being off and I'm now fully committed to checking expiration dates on everything I touch in this store. If I don't see one I won't be buying it or I might have to ask staff, or check in the parking lot. So the long and short of this is that it's a nice, big, clean store with massive inventory and good deals. You absolutely need to watch out for expiation dates as they will sell you months expired product.

Let me recap the actual exchange I had with the employee - young guy working on Friday around 4:30: Allow me to set the scene: I had just purchased a peach vodka, my debit card processed and the booze was bagged and I realized too late I was overcharged. I silently walked back to the shelf to confirm the price and returned to the clerk: Me: hey this rang up at 17 something but it's $12.99 Him: (sigh, eye roll) let me see it. Me: hands him booze Him: scans it and says it's $16 Me: the shelf says it's $12.99 Him: (shrugs, sighs, eye rolls) maybe the shelf is wrong. (He starts walking towards the shelf) Me: see? Nestled into a busy shopping center at 95th and Antioch this neighborhood liquor store is super convenient and has good selection for its size. To me, MDL is kind of a hybrid between a very small mom and pop and a mega liquor store like total wine. You're going to find a good selection of everything but you may not find EVERYTHING if that makes sense. The prices are similarly marked - cheaper than a super small place, but again hard to compete with a mega store. I go here mostly because it's close to my house and has decent selection, is local (I think!), and has friendly staff. They also usually carry seasonal releases from local breweries and distilleries which is nice to know you can count on them to have new releases in stock when they come out. Overall this is a solid place and I'm super grateful to have it in my backyard.

We were directed to Metcalf by someone who worked at Sprouts nearby. I guess you can't buy wine in the market in Overland Park which is a bit of a pain.
