The Belvoir is an amazing event space. The wine is excellent & not outrageously priced~the staff is informative, friendly & helpful. You can also sit outside on the side porch on a beautiful day. I love that they embrace the full history of the estate & try to preserve the history as well as making new memories there. We went once just to see how it was & have returned several times now. I like to bring family & friends to the Belvoir, who've traveled to the area since it's such a unique place to go in the KC metroplex. I highly recommend a visit to the Belvoir! read more

I attended a holiday pop-up event here this weekend. I had not visited Belvoir before, but I was very familiar with the property. My last visit came in 1972 when the property was used as a nursing home by The Odd Fellows fraternal organization, where my grandmother spent the last few years of her life. Prior to that it was an orphanage and for a short time a school - which my older siblings attended in the late 1950's. The winery has done a great job of preserving the history of the main building - one of four structures on the campus. Walking up the old wooden staircase to the second floor brought back instant memories of taking that same staircase to visit a woman that lived there. The nurses told us she claimed to be a relative of Frank and Jesse James, so 8 year old me convinced my mom for us to go visit her. I still recall her small and frail bedridden body holding my hand and thanking me for visiting her. My paternal grandmother lived in the adjacent building. It still sits vacant and deteriorating after decades of abandonment. It is the newest of the 4 structures on the campus having been built in 1955. Her solitary room was first floor left front of the building. I remember walking in and always talking to the nurses and aides at the station at the door. I remember taking presents of clothes and food on Sundays and holidays or just returning her laundry. I remember helping to decorate the room for the holidays. I remember the metal hand bell she used to summon assistance. I remember the beautiful large tree on the circle drive near her building that still stands today. The interior is vandalized and graffitied with no trespassing signs in place, and the windows she spent hours looking out of are now broken, blocked by rogue shrubs and a rusted and collapsing awning. The last time I peered in this window was sometime in 1972 to wave to her as we exited and let her know we'd be back soon. I highly encourage anyone to visit and support this winery and Inn. Check out the sitting rooms, look at the artifacts, documents and photos. Visit "George' the resident skeleton in his glass tomb... and if you listen carefully you might just hear my grandmother's small brass handbell. read more

What is not to love about this storied piece of Kansas City history? At first, I thought of it as very Harry Potter-esque. That was after having read haunted accounts. Last year I saw a mama deer and her fawns during the day. Belvoir is a huge estate. You feel like you are walking into the 1920s. The staircase is a marvel, both bannisters not with one set of stairs, but two! And an elevator, plus sitting rooms, a real pump organ, and old timey glass that's of the highest caliber which you can't find these days on buildings. Don't forget to visit George the skeleton. Kids especially love him. The vibe takes you back in time, even the powder room on the main floor. We don't drink, but I heard a noise at night above when I stayed this year, yet there was no one upstairs because we were already on the top floor. read more

The winery itself is a beautiful historical landmark. The front of the building seems well maintained and would make beautiful photos or a place to hang out and sip wine. The wines seem to lean more on the sweeter side (even their reds). If that is your vibe definitely a good place! The reason for the two stars is 1. Service wasn't that great. 2. You can choose three wines for a flight taste. The flight taste is $6 and the pour is just a few sips.. I personally didn't enjoy any of the wines I tried. (I tried 5) read more

We had a wonderful experience with Belvoir. The staff was very accommodating, communicative, and pleasant. The venue's history and ambiance absolutely fit the Arkham Horror 1920's Glam wedding event. The wedding ceremony took place in the gazebo, reception on the second floor, and wedding party and several guests stayed in the guest rooms on the third floor. While no ghostly activities were documented, we did have some fun visiting "George." There are a lot of locations for photos and the bride and groom areas designated for wedding preparations are luxurious. The cocktail hour was held in the second floor bar area - full charcuterie went well with the wine offerings. Belvoir has great pairings! So why not five stars? The grounds could be better maintained - things are aging and need a little extra care. There are a lot of renovations happening and where they are completed - it's wonderful. Other areas are lacking. The area around the fountain and the walkway from the building to the gazebo all needs some love. It's a great venue and can't wait to see how it all comes together in future years. Best staff ever - they were present when needed and stealthy ninjas the rest of the time. read more

Super fun place! It's an old former orphanage and I felt like I was walking into a scene from The Queen's Gambit coming here! There's a cool creepy funky vibe to the place and I'm not surprised to find out that in addition to wine tastings they also host murder mystery dinners and ghost tours- so neat! The building could use some cleaning and painting and general sprucing up, but the slightly distressed look does add to its charm a bit. It was busy the day that we were here- there were three separate private parties happening in various rooms. The bartender Madison in the tasting room could have gotten easily stressed out, but she took everything in stride and was just lovely- informative, helpful, and fun. The wine tastings are free! We tried 5 small pours & took a bottle of the delicious Sorelle Dolci home. We also both loved the dessert wine, called Boo's. We'll be back! read more

Super nice place to stay at. We stayed in room 2, not very haunted.....the walls are a tad thin, lots of creaky floors. SUPER CLEAN, and amazing shower. Was told that room 9 is where you want to stay if your are looking for more of a ghostly stay as it's more consistent. It's sad that the other buildings aren't fixed up, but I'm sure that will come with time and money. I highly recommend staying here, the complimentary wine tastings and tasty wines are a treat. read more

I'll start by saying that the grounds are beautiful and definitely worth going just to walk around. They have some history displays around the building and site. The Wines were just not for me. They seemed to specialize in sweet and desert wines. They had one person working the bar and they were nice. They have flights for their wines, but their pours were rather small. read more

What a Surprise for the Chauffeur! Last night as I was enlisted as my wife's chauffeur for a "girl's night out," I was honestly surprised to discover the Belvoir Winery. Thanks to Garmin I was able to find it nestled about half a mile off MO 291 in Liberty. Turning into the driveway we were blown away by the sheer beauty and serenity of the grounds. It is one of those places where you are drawn in to just bask in its old school charm. Rounding the circular drive I noticed the inscription over the main entry door, "Odd Fellows Home." My father had belonged to the Odd Fellows, and I had remembered their "homes" were scattered around the country to provide shelter and medical support to members (my parents are buried in an Odd Fellows cemetery). I had not heard of them in decades and now wondered what happened to them. Upon entering we were as taken with the interior as we were with the exterior. Old dark wood, stained glass windows, and a patina that spoke of its heritage. The bar (OK, tasting room) had a short wine list that included a hand full of their wines. I said "bar" because there are beers and full liquor also available. After a in depth tasting we settled on a sweet / fruity selection that fit well with the warm summer evening, and went out for a relaxing evening on the porch. There we decided that added near the top of our "list" would be a weekend retreat in one of the rooms in their inn. What a great place to rest and recharge! Only around a 30 minute drive from the southern suburbs of Kansas City, it should be on anyone's list of enjoyable outings. read more

The location is perfect as you're close to everything, but feel like you're away from the city. The staff was very friendly and inviting. The wine was good and reasonably priced in a one of a kind bar and surrounding drinking rooms. The stories of and our actual experiences of the surrounding buildings were fun. Well I had my first real service dog access denial today. My wife called Belvoir Winery and Inn in Missouri to make a reservation and they advised her that they do not allow animals of any kind, even service dogs, which is totally against the law. So I called and advised them that was against the law. His response, "you can try to bring your dog". When I asked him if I would be denied access when we checked in he repeated, "you can try" in a real snarky voice. Guy was a total jerk! read more

Around 2:05 we stopped in for a glass of wine on a gorgeous fall day. The sign said were hosting a wedding and were closing the bar at 2:30 and the grounds at 3:00. We walked up to the bar area and the lady behind the bar RUDELY announced, "We're closed!" We said the sign said 2:30... she said we changed it to 2:00 because they had to get the sangria ready for the wedding! It's unfortunate that they can't staff accordingly when they have an event. It would have taken 2 minutes to sell us a bottle of wine and we would have gone to sit outside. They, unfortunately, made their problem the customers problem. read more

I enjoyed my experience at the winery. When you first arrive it's clear to see it's an absolutely gorgeous property. The building itself is very old and you definitely get the creepy vibe you might expect from a building that old. Parts of it are run down, but in a way that adds to the charm and experience. You can taste all of their wines for free, which is awesome, and then can obviously buy glasses or bottles. I really enjoyed several of their wines. It's kind of cool you can walk around on the first level and just choose a room to sit in while you drink your wine, or you can sit outside. Some rooms are larger than others with various types of seating (regular like stackable chairs/couches/arm chairs/etc). You can bring your own food and snacks, which is always nice. It's definitely an eerie building that I would not be surprised if people experienced paranormal activity. But it's such a different experience than other wineries I've visited and I loved it! read more

I am shocked at myself for not reviewing this place sooner! I've been coming here since they opened. The team here is so friendly and helpful. Most are super knowledgeable about the wine and history of the Odd Fellows Home which is fun chit chat while you're sampling wine. The wine is delicious! Casanova is my absolute favorite- do try! The wine tasting is complimentary. The location of this winery is what's so unique. It's in a old orphanage next to an abandoned nursing home, hospital, and retirement home. The house and grounds have been slaved over to make a perfect backdrop for an afternoon in the shade sipping wine. We visited on a Friday afternoon and Jesse provided us with samples of all the wines at the wine bar and said we were free to wander the estate. Belvoir offers 6 wines, with some dry offerings, a good Norton and a few sweeter wines that are fairly mild. Up on the hill behind the main building are the oldest vines on the estate along with a war memorial and the resting place of the former residents of the Old Fellows home. The laid back air of Belvoir makes it a great place to whittle away an afternoon with a bottle of wine. read more

Visited our local winery for the first time since moving here. I was hopeful, because we had left behind several top-notch wineries in STL. This place did not disappoint! The wines were sweeter than what I typically drink, but there was a good flavor there for all of them. I was a fan of the Chardonel (drier white) and Norton (which was not that Norton-y). The drier wines are good "transition" wines, for those looking to expand their wine palate. By the way, the tasting is complimentary!! The bartender was really friendly. I was scared to come due to the reviews but it was actually a nice time with great customer service. Other customers were awesome as well, not sure if the wine had anything to do with it. Parking seems to be everywhere. In the front, on the side and in the back. I read the service has been horrible but I was pleased I didn't get the names of the young man and woman but they were attentive and made jokes. The guy accidentally spilled red wine on a customer and purse. Ouch but he was so apologetic and gave them wine as a sorry gift. She wasn't to mad and continue drinking what a good sport. The tasting/bar area is rather small I know there isn't much they can do about it but I wish they could it got pretty crowded quick. I also wish there was some type of tour guide person that could at lease walk the halls giving information or showing off the location. I seen a number of customers roaming the grounds alone with wine. I would of liked to learn more while I was there. Overall loved the place and the bartenders I will definitely be back. This is definitely a hard review to write. Clearly, they've got a lot things for them. The rooms are spacious with comfortable beds and the wine tasting is a lot of fun. Although I had a problem when Madison told us the one acre vineyard behind the Inn provided the grapes for nine different wines. It was Gary at breakfast who actually provided the truth they purchase grapes from local growers and process the wines in Booneville. By the way, Gary is a delight and my husband enjoyed talking to him at breakfast. From the looks of condition of the place they are very stretched running the place with a staff of three. Although they have been open a year the windows still haven't been painted. Thus, all the pictures you see will be heavily filtered or at night shots. The biggest problem we found unacceptable is the room wasn't clean. When we arrived it was clear the bed and towels had been replaced, but that's about all. The bath mat was dirty and soaked with about 2 gallon of water. I couldn't even pick it up from the weigh. The bath, sink and floor had several black hairs, so it was clear the floors and bath had not been cleaned. Also there was no soap products in the room. After reporting the conditions to Madison, she chose to come up and mop and give us a new bath mat making a lot of apologizes for the condition of the room. After closing the bar she brought us up some soap, but never addressed the sink or tub. Needless to say, no one wanted to take a bath in a dirty tub that night. Madison claimed the owner Sean had cleaned the room that day, so I'm hope it's an oversight and this is not the norm. I can accept oversights, but what was harder to accept is nobody correcting it and nothing reported to Sean the next morning. As we were walking out Sean shouted from his desk to come back. I thought, no thank you as I exited on an elevator that also had not been vacuum that week. read more

This is a great location with some tasty wine. Although I am usually not a fan of the sweet Missouri wines, I found Belvoir very enjoyable. We sampled all 6 wines at no cost and then chose a few bottles to share on the veranda. They have an ice cream shop as well, but I was too full on wine to try it...I guess there is always next time. We are at the Boliver Winery Murder Mystery Dinner. With tickets running $55 each I expected a little more than 2 person show and some cold Hy-vee Chinese food. "Nope, I'm not going in there." My exact words when I pulled here on my last visit. After nearly driving off the road missing the turn, I was adamant about skipping the wine tasting and heading to somewhere a little less "haunted." I'm glad I changed my mind because Belvoir Winery is a real treasure for those seeking some winey goodness, good company, and a great story. The bar area here is really small but still big enough to fit about a dozen people around the bar and surrounding tables. We opted for the wine tasting (free, but gratuities are a must) which allowed us to try eight of their wines. Norton haters beware, the least celebrated grape of all time is on display here in their red and port varietals. Not satisfied with the free offerings, we bought three bottles of wine and headed off into one of the many open rooms to enjoy our plunder among friends. As long as there aren't any other special events going on, these off-rooms are a great chance to privately enjoy the company of others while also enjoying Belvoir' finest. We didn't catch any haunting activities which was fine with me. We heard some of the stories from our great bartender (service was fantastic) especially the wild one about the lady staring out of the womens' lounge early in the morning - creepy. My husband and I took a Saturday to visit local wineries in the KC area. This was my favorite! The place had such history and sense of presence. As we drove onto the property, we could see it was set up for an outdoor wedding for that evening along with a tented reception nearby the ceremony venue. The building the winery is located inside is an old children's home run by the Odd Fellows Society. It is a gorgeous brick mansion of sorts with great architecture. The wine tasting room is in a converted bar with period-style fixtures and great ambiance. The man behind the bar is the manager of the property and offered those of us there a tour of the building. He told us the history of the building and pointed out details that might otherwise go unnoticed (e.g., the wear on the stairs from years of children running up and down them). He told us as well about the hauntings that have occurred in the building. There are plans to renovate the second and third floors of the main building to a ballroom and a B&B within the next couple years. There are also three other buildings on the property, each with their own story and their own ghosts. The place has a great history. The wine was wonderful as well! We were able to try all six wines they currently have; three white and three red. We ended up buying two bottles to bring home to enjoy as well. I had a amazing experience not only was the Inn beautiful and cozy but it was Jam Pack full of creepy history. I didn't believe in ghost or know the history of the inn when I booked the room. But I have to admit I had creepy experience in room 8 so if your ghost hunter I recommend staying in that room and if you don't encounter any spirits in your room you can definitely find some in the bar downstairs. With a nice collection of wine and a witty innkeeper just don't get him started on dad jokes. 10 out of 10 will stay here again. read more

Ok this one is hard to rate. 4 for back drop and ambience, beautiful Odd Fellow's Home. The main building has been renovated with fixtures from the Old Hyde Park buildings and downtown hotels and theaters from the 20s and 30s that have been torn down. Great history in the buildings. Amazing bar area with high tops, bar seating, a huge fireplace and a mirror that spans the whole mantel. The do ghost tours that cost $50 and I might go back to do one of those, because that is just cool. Most of the other buildings are falling apart and are in dire need for repair. In fact the owner told us that they are looking for an investor to help fix the place up. 1 or 2 stars for service and taste. The people were super nice we met the Owner John and he was sweet and talked to us about all sorts of stuff and he alone would get a 5 star, but the gentleman behind the bar could not control his pours. He had to use cordial glasses which only hold an ounce so he didn't over pour and he TOUCHED EVERY SINGLE GLASS WITH THE NECK BOTTLE. EWWWWWWWWW. Can we say spreading germs. That gets a 1 star. A couple of us noticed this so we made sure we drank from the same side of the glass so the bottle never touched the side we drank from. So I decided on 2 when I factored in taste of the wines. The wines were also not very good. They were all sweet to me and I just didn't like them. I also thought their prices were fairly high compared to other local wineries. I know my review is much less than the others that have reviewed this place, but it is all about different opinions. If I was ranking on atmosphere alone it would be a 4, but I can not get past the wine bottles touching the glasses of every person at the bar for tastings. That is just GROSS. I hope they find an investor because it could be beautiful with a little work and a lot of fun. I would just like more wines to choice from and some drier ones or semi-drys.
