A bit of a mixed experience for our group. We started by sharing two pizzas as appetizers--the Carnage (loaded with meats) and the Margherita. Both were absolutely delicious, and the crust was cooked to perfection. Totally recommend. For the main course, the some of the table really enjoyed their meals, with the Funghi Pasta getting enthusiastic rave reviews along with the risotto that came with the Osso bucco. Unfortunately, my entree fell a bit short. I ordered the salmon, asking for it to be cooked medium, but it arrived thoroughly cooked all the way through. Also, because I was distracted by conversation while ordering, I didn't notice that the salmon doesn't come with a side dish like the other entrees on the menu. I really wish our waitress had flagged that for me so I could have ordered a side to complete the meal. Otherwise the service was fantastic. We finished with dessert, which was decent. The tiramisu uniquely came with a glaze sauce to pour over the top--an interesting presentation, but honestly not needed, as traditional tiramisu stands well enough on its own. I was really looking forward to dinner at Plate, and it did not disappoint. The meatballs were delicious, served with a sauce that had a nice kick. The Moderno salad -- with cherries, cured beef, pine nuts, and goat cheese -- was flavorful, though the espresso vinaigrette unfortunately tasted more like straight vinegar than espresso. I had the short rib bolognese and it was absolutely delicious. Others at the table ordered the Funghi pasta with creamy white sauce, which was good but could have used a bit more mushroom flavor. The Toscana chicken breast (bone-in) with sun-dried tomato sauce had that perfect "marry me" flavor -- rich and satisfying. For dessert, we had the Plate chocolate cake with raspberry and pistachios. It was a huge slice, with a rich chocolate flavor. So why not five stars? Despite having reservations, we were seated right by the kitchen where servers pick up food. Made more annoying because the restaurant had a lot of empty booths and tables in the main dining room. The upside was that the pizza ovens kept us warm, but it wasn't the most relaxing spot. There were also a couple billing issues: the tip was calculated on the post-tax total rather than pre-tax. Also our prix fixe dinners included dessert and we opted to upgrade to a different dessert from the menu. Oddly the up-charge was $6, even though the menu price difference was only $3. We were very excited to try Plate. We arrived looking forward to try their great happy hour menu to sadly find out that it is only available at the bar. It was not stated online. So we opted for a couple cocktails that were done very well. We started with the grilled octopus and it was delicious! We also ordered the focaccia that came with a ricotta spread that was delicious we actually ordered another. I had a half Caesar salad which was interesting. It resembled a wedge salad with a fried parm chip on the side. We had to send one back due to brown lettuce sadly. Our server did not apologize but brought us another one begrudgingly. I ordered the PAPPARDELLE and it was very interesting. The sauce was rich and creamy. The noodles were ok. A large clump of them were stuck together. The pork was a tad over cooked and a bit powdery almost. My husband had the Bolognese and it was good. The sauce was done well but it was served with shredded beef and that was interesting. Atmosphere is very modern and clean which is so different for KC Italian. Overall the food was good. I feel like the restaurant is overpriced for what they are serving. Our service was subpar as well which was disappointing at a restaurant like this. While the food and service were amazing, the bar was as hot as the patio. There was a space AC blowing on two people at the bar which left the rest of us at the high tops sweating. When you're paying these prices, you should have air conditioning working. The meatballs were nice, tender. The tomato bruschetta was alright... not my favorite bruschetta I've had. The pizza was really nice, the Quattro formaggi. I loved the cheese and crispiness of it. We asked for pepperoni and the server kept calling it express pepperoni... there were 4 pieces. When we asked for the check it was $37 before ti. We handed them the gift card and after they ran the gift card which very clearly said $30 they said there was only $20 on it... this was a gift card straight from the restaurant itself. A bit embarrassing and lack of attention to detail. It ended up they honored the $30, after trying to tell us it was a $20 birthday gift card and trying to say they reuse gift cards. Restaurant was 70% empty, which made for an odd vibe, but service was still friendly. Unfortunately, server really didn't know anything about the drink or food menu, and kept having to tell my guest "let me go check on that." They were also out of something to make the salad my client ordered, out of mushrooms, and out of one of the pasta noodles used in one of their main dishes. Again - just an odd experience for a higher end italian restaurant. Some of our food was great and other dishes were underwhelming. Let's get straight to the food--it was a carb-lover's paradise, so be prepared to leave full! The truffle garlic bread was decent but could use a little improvement. The bread itself was a bit dry, and the garnish didn't stick well, so it got a bit messy. The butter was tasty, though not quite enough for the amount of bread. Maybe spreading it on before cutting the bread could help? The carpaccio was impressive, a bit on the lighter side, which made a good appetizer before heading into the carb-loaded meal. The pairing with arugula was perfect, making it a simple yet balanced dish with great flavor. The carbonara was rich and flavorful, though a little too thick in texture, which made it heavier than expected. The rigatoni, however, was one of the standouts! It had a lovely basil note in the sauce, and the shrimp was cooked perfectly--definitely a highlight. The star of the meal was the mushroom pizza. The dough was prepped and cooked just right, with delicious mushrooms and excellent seasoning all around. Service was on the slower side, even though it wasn't busy. We ordered the donuts upon recommendation from our waitress, and they were some of the best we've had. Warm, house made Italian donuts with orange mascarpone cream, powdered sugar, and pistachios. For our main dishes we ordered a Caesar salad, steak + eggs, and pappardelle pasta. Caesar salad - maybe I don't go to enough fancy restaurants, but I've only seen Caesar salad come out like this a handful of times. Layers of romaine lettuce wrapped together to form one large wedge drizzled in dressing, cheese, and one large parmesan tuile crouton. Bit of work to cut up the salad and mix everything together, but delicious, nonetheless! Would order again. Steak + eggs - sirloin cooked medium rare with two sunny side up eggs, few slices of bacon, potato wedges, and two pieces of toast. Pretty standard steak and eggs, no complaints. Pappardelle pasta - generous amount of rich, meaty, cheesy pasta. Noodles were cooked perfectly. We opted to do the prie fix dinner for two for 75$, which came with one app, two salads, two pastas, and a dessert. Unsure if these portions are full sizes or not, but it was a decent deal with the amount of food and the overall taste of everything that we got. Meatballs were so flavorful. They really packed in the dry herbs in the meat, and the tomato sauce was tart, savory, and very simple but delicious. I ordered a Cesar salad, and my partner ordered another salad--but he mistakenly got the Cesar, oops. The Cesar was just ok, I usually prefer it with more lemon. Pastas were amazing. We got the bolognese and the arrabbiata. The noodles were chewy in the bolognese, but the arrabiata was packed with flavor. The star were the donuts. I'm not usually a fan of cake donuts, they're too dense usually--but these were fluffy and with the cream and lemon curd, they were divine. It did lack a truffle essence and flavor, but the saltiness of the cheese and some fresh cracked pepper makes you not want or miss the truffle experience. The portion is on the smaller side since it's an app. It's perfect for one... I don't think I'd be able to share it, it's too good. The arugula salad was fresh. A little smaller than I expected for an entree size. It had enough dressing and was delicately touched with cheese. I did add a squeeze of fresh lemon for a bit more citrus flav and to cut some of the saltiness from the cheeses. Side of Caponata was a palate bomb. The fall version is made with butternut squash instead of eggplant. It's sweet, but behind the scenes packs a big punch of vinegar/acidity... this dish just keeps you going in for another spoon full. The restaurant is modern, simply decorated and impeccably clean. Drake was an amazing server, request him when dining here. I will return to try more delicious Italian food. This was our first time coming to Plate, which we chose to celebrate my birthday. To be completely honest, the vibe isn't what I would typically go for, it's a little too cold and modern. However, one look at the menu and I was convinced to give them a try and I am so glad. We made reservations for 6:15 on a Friday night. The place was decently busy when we got there, but we were seated immediately and by the time we left, they were very busy. I knew I wanted to try pretty much everything on the menu, so we chose to do the prix fixe pasta dinner which comes with one appetizer, two salads, two pastas, and a dessert. The burrata E prosciutto was a great start to the meal. The cheese was beautifully creamy and played well with the fig jam and salty ham. The moderno Salad was delicious, I'd never had espresso vinaigrette before and it balanced the sweet cherries and tart goat cheese. The carbonara was thick spaghetti and ridiculously rich with cheese and the runny egg yolk on top. I don't know how we found room for dessert, but we tried the bombolini or fried donuts which came with lemon curd and amaretto whipped cream. We were what looked like the only people in the restaurant around 4:45pm We had a great waitress but it all started out bad when we ordered happy hour glasses of red wine and it was the smallest pour I've ever seen even for a happy hour pour, it got worse when we saw the table next to us be seated and order the same happy hour red and got a normal pour so not sure what the issue was but we were clearly given half the normal pour once we saw the table next to us receive a normal sized pour for happy hour. We ordered the meatballs, margarita pizza and pear bruschetta. * Pear bruschetta was good, the bread was the perfect amount of crunch and toppings were tasty. * Meatballs had a good taste but very dry, dense and chewy, seemed overcooked or over reheated. * Margarita pizza was chewy and zero crunch to any of the pizza, doughy in the middle. Perfect balance of making sure we had the best experience and giving us privacy on our date night. Our server did a great job of timing when our drinks and food came out. We ordered the burrata and the tomato and ricotta burschetta for our apps. Both were light, refreshing, and full of flavor. Would highly recommend both. I'd like to try the carpaccio next! My husband ordered the KC strip, which was cooked perfectly, but the star of the plate was the bone marrow butter. I ordered the branzino, and I swear it was the best I've ever had. Quite underwhelming unfortunately. The place was nice and the service was good but, the food was just okay! I went with a pretty large work group and it was just so so honestly! Very glad it didn't come out of my pocket personally because it's quite pricy. The Mushroom pizza was pretty yummy and the arancini was cool but the carbonara was one of the least pleasing things I've eaten in a while.... But one of my co workers really liked it so taste is definitely subjective and I encourage you to try it yourself! read more

The garlic bread was so soft and delicious. There was some chili peppers on it and the garlic butter that made it so good. I got the Ceasar side salad which was very fresh. The brazino was so good.
