While Paul was changing the wipes, I walked past him and simply said, "Excuse me," because I needed to get a wipe. Instead of asking what I needed, he abruptly responded, "If I needed help, I would have asked." I was so caught off guard by the hostility that I initially just walked away. After finishing on my machine and having a moment to process the interaction, I approached him to clear up what was obviously a misunderstanding. I calmly explained that I wasn't offering to help him--I had simply said "excuse me" because I needed a wipe. Rather than acknowledging the misunderstanding or offering even the most basic apology, he again rudely exclaimed, "I don't need help." Sir. Nobody was trying to help you. I was trying to get a WIPE. Two hostile responses to a customer politely saying "excuse me" is ridiculous. I shouldn't have to carefully select my words at 5-6 in the morning to avoid irritating an employee while I'm simply trying to work out. I enjoy coming to the YMCA, but customer service during the 5-6 AM hour clearly isn't Paul's strong suit. If politely saying "excuse me" results in being snapped at--not once, but twice--perhaps a customer-facing role during the early shift isn't the best fit. A simple "Oh, I'm sorry, I misunderstood you" would have ended the entire interaction. Instead, he doubled down on being rude. YMCA, please do better. Your members deserve basic courtesy regardless of what time they choose to work out.

After grabbing some weights and equipment for the class, I got started. I liked the blend of yoga, bar and aerobic exercises, and more tension-based exercises with the core. Keeps things more interesting with the variety of movements. I had a substitute instructor who was overall great and very encouraging. She really pushed us because she would often count down for some exercises which would make me think we would be done after that, but then she would lead us right into another exercise using the same muscles so you wouldn't get a break! Overall a great opportunity to be challenged with a full body workout! I would definitely go back if price wasn't a barrier for me personally.
