Face it. We've all had gym memberships at places where you've had to wait in line for a squat rack while someone is doing quarter squats and posting selfies between sets. These are the same places that play Katy Perry over the loudspeakers and deadlifting is frowned upon. This is not one of those places. The owners of Metroflex Gym of Plano, Ryan and Chris, are both experienced, knowledgeable, and most importantly, nice guys. They can help you with programming, nutrition and technique. Equipment-wise, they have multiple squat racks, deadlift platforms, log press, various barbells including specialty bars, dumbbells, farmer carry handles, prowlers, sleds, free weight based machines and cable machines, dip stations, climbing ropes, various tires. The only piece of equipment missing that I think is essential is a GHD but they do have an elitefts 45 degree back extension and reverse hyper. The first reviewer mentioned "minimal bathroom" and "beat up cardio machines". First of all, the only "cardio machines" are two treadmills that are meant to be used to warm up or cool down. They are not for cardio. Cardio is not done at this gym. Conditioning is and the conditioning machines are called prowlers, sleds, tires, sledgehammers, battle ropes, and high reps in the squat rack. As far as the bathroom goes, they have a men's and women's with toilets and sinks. What else do you need? A hair dryer? Sure, if you like the pampered life you could go to a luxury gym and pay up to $100 a month to have a spa and a locker room with naked dad bods walking around but if your serious about getting strong, Metroflex Gym of Plano has everything you need. I've been a member since March of 2015 and I can honestly say that the other members are not your typical gym goers. No one has been condescending. No one walks around with their nose up in the air like they are better than you. Everyone is there for the same reason (to get stronger) and for that, there is a mutual respect. I've seen some really strong guys offering help to newcomers on several occasions. Overall, I can't recommended this place enough. Outstanding hardcore gym for powerlifting, bodybulding, strongman, and powerbuilding. Very knowledgeable staff who are always willing to help and share knowledge. Elitefts racks, bench and equipment. I had been going to a commercial gym, and considered myself fit, but my Chiropractor recommended I build up using properly performed squats, bench, deadlift, and accessory exercises to rehab a lower back injury caused by posterior chain atrophy and imbalance. Beginning in Nov, I purchased training sessions with Ryan, Lead Trainer. Ryan set up training and a food-based nutritional program for me. Ryan taught me about the need and difference between strength and hypertrophy programs, timing of nutrition and training, max effort, dynamic effort, accommodating resistance with bands and chains, work capacity, intensity, duration, importance of Glute Ham Raises (GHR) and Back Raises (which are both Elitefts equipment), reverse hypers (Louie Simmons Westside Barbell version), general / special physical preparedness, and the need to drink water during workouts, and use chalk (which is not allowed in commercial gyms). Ryan continues to help me progress with proper technique, injury free, toward the goals set by my Chiropractor. I was also able to pay for the training sessions by reducing the amount of supplements I was taking that didn't produce the results achieved through Ryan's guidance. Love love love Metroflex. Music is loud, people are friendly, and the weights are heavy. This is by far the best gym I have ever worked out at. The loud music and gritty atmosphere makes this place an ideal gym to workout at. They also grill and cook outside on their huge smoker/grill, where else could you do that? They have awesome equipment to suit anyone's needs. Nautilus, Elite FTS, Hammer Strength just to name a few types of equipment they have. They also have atlas stones, yokes, farmers carries, prowlers, tires, log presses, rubber plates, deadlift platforms, cardio equipment, DB's up to 200lbs! They have it all. Although their gym may come across as intimidating for the average joe, it's really a gym for everyone. So whether you are a competitive strongman, body builder, football player, or someone looking to get into working out then this is the gym to be at. The owners Ryan and Chris Close are fantastic. They are very friendly and will help you with anything you need and are also very knowledgeable about the whole world of fitness. Everyone cheers each other on to get that last rep or last set which is awesome. No need to waste your time looking for BS gyms where there's no chalk, no chains, and the people there judge you before picking up a weight. This is by far the best strength training facility in DFW. Everything you need to get stronger is here. The equipment is all in great condition and the people are truly supportive. Any level of strength athlete is welcome here and will never feel intimidated. The owner is easy to get a hold of and a fantastic resource. If you hate big box gyms filled with uncaring, unknowledgeable staff and unnecessary machines, you owe it to yourself to come to this gym. It is open to ANYONE who wants to get stronger. When I lived in the DFW area, I tried many other gyms and as I stated before this one was the best of the best. Great strength equipment, everything you would ever need to be at the top of your game in powerlifting, strongman, or bodybuilding. I can honestly say it was the total package and one of the best gym experiences I have ever come across. The people are also what make this gym amazing. As I mentioned before everyone from the owner and others associated with the gym are extremely helpful. The price is a great deal and is just that added bonus. Anyone relocating to the Dallas/Plano area or just passing through, I would strongly advise you to train here and not bother with any other gym. read more

Ok, so just to be perfectly clear, this gym is NOT for everybody (in a good way). There is metal music playing on the speakers, people lifting heavy weight and pushing themselves, bailing out on lifts sometimes, chalking up, and other things you don't see at your typical gyms. I just became a member after bouncing between a few different gyms that are really "health clubs" in disguise. Metroflex is the first gym I have truly felt comfortable to push myself to the next level. You can yell if you need to on that last rep and no one even looks up. There is no ego in this gym. The "No Selfie Policy" is what truly sold me, that's how I knew the people there were serious. People aren't there to show off or post to the rest of the world how they are working out, just great people who are serious about being better. I can tell already there is a strong family vibe. Everyone is extremely positive and willing to help if you need it. You can hang out in the lobby after your workout, eat your post-workout meal and strike up conversation with other members doing the same. As long as I'm living in North Texas I will be a member at this gym! read more

I made the move to Metroflex roughly two months ago after growing tired of lack of equipment availability (unwilling to let others use or work in while taking excessive selfies), noticing gym shaming from some members towards those attempting to better themselves, and a few too many renditions of "Wrecking Ball" played over the speakers at my prior gym. I'll readily admit that I was (and still am in certain areas) a fitness novice and that it can be a bit intimidating at first to walk in and see a lot of folks that are in fantastic shape, but all of the members, aas well as the owners Chris & Ryan, are very friendly, supportive and helpful. I've gained more knowledge and made more progress here in two months than I had at Texas Family Fitness in the seven months prior. I live 30 minutes away one-way, and most likely drive past two dozen gyms to get to Metroflex, but would much rather make that drive than go to a lesser gym. Metroflex Gym North Dallas/Plano is by far the best hardcore gym out there. If you are looking for a great place to train, coupled by great results, Metroflex North Dallas/Plano is the place to be. The hardcore, raw environment Metroflex presents is uncontested. This place is not worthy of a single star!!! When I first joined this gym a few months ago I was liking everything about it. That all changed once the Owner Ryan began to harass me about subscribing to his buck creek meats. Another thing I don´t like is how if you are not apart of his ¨clique¨ he will become a phone nazi. Heaven forbid you have your phone out while all of his little boyfriends continue to take selfies by the dumbbell rack. Also it´s pretty annoying when you´re trying to perform a lift and a dog is basically humping your leg because for some dumb reason people thinks it appropriate to bring their dogs inside of gym where weights are being thrown and slammed around. Really smart fellas! Also would it kill the owners to clean up the floor and the dog feces on the turf out back. There are many better gym not to far away where the owners are more customer oriented!!! read more

This was a gym I could go to for the convenience of being close to it. I love the gym but I went the yesterday night had gotten off work and wanted to work out for a bit. Not 10 min in there I received a message from a client of mine to set up his appointment for his haircut the following day. I'm a barber I always get back to my clients. Well the owner comes to me and tells me to get the fuck off my phone. I told him not to talk to me like that then out of no were he picks me up and throws me on top of a weight lifting machine. My neck is swollen and I have some back pain. I made a report with the police before I went to the hospital were I got X-rays and checked out because of it. I got treated like shit there that night and was very disappointed for that business. I will take them to court see you then metroflex read more

Metroflex of North Dallas is back in 2015 with a new crew running the show here in Plano. Full brand new array of EliteFTS racks, with many platforms, benches, and a full dumbbell array and machines with a lot of good equipment coming from Metroflex Arlington. Tons of professional equipment and real barbells (a bunch of Texas Power Bars). They are still rapidly expanding and adding/ordering stuff. Environment is fantastic. They have a lounge area at the front with a huge table to get your meals in pre and post training and a massage and posing room near the front. Chalk's everywhere. Hardcore music is playing 24/7. Place opens very early and closes at midnight. If you are in the area and serious about bodybuilding, powerlifting, weightlifting, strongman, etc. you need to be going to this gym!! read more

I joined this gym last year to continue powerlifting and thought that I had found a hardcore gym with a great staff and great equipment. Slowly I started to see its true colors. While I have always respected the rules such as no texting in the gym. I would see the owner Ryan tell people to take that outside if you are texting. However, i would then see guys that he was closer to texting in the gym and Ryan would walk right past them without saying anything. Yeah, talk about hypocrite. Also, juicing (roids) seems to be a thing with a lot of members who aren't really that strong for their size to begin with. I recommend Extreme Iron Pro Gym where the staff and owner are more professional and courteous. Not to mention the gym is actually clean while staying hardcore. read more

I've never worked here. So this review is legit. I worked out here at Metroflex in the summer after it opened in 2015. I have worked out in several corporate gyms, but never a heavy lifting gym. Chris and Ryan gave me a whole new perspective on what gym atmospheres/ workouts can (should) feel like. For starters, I learned not to bring any pre-workout because they play plenty of head-banging metal and heavy beats to get the workout going. They treat all guests/ customers with respect and frankness. And signing up is painless - I was sold without them even asking. Even as a member, they were always happy to, watch, spot, hang out with me. I work out here, day-to-day, especially if I need some good music with my heavy reps. This is a great gym for anyone that is serious about their training. The owners Ryan and Chris are very passionate and have put alot of effort into this gym. There is great equipment old and new including: 4 elite fts squat racks, 4 deadlift platforms, a record board, bands, chains, dumbbells up to 200 lbs, 4 bench presses, 2 shoulders presses, 1 incline, 8 Texas power bars, reverse hyper, sleds, tires, ropes, specialty bars, strongman equipment, cable crossovers, and much more. The sound system in the weightroom is top notch as well. There is also a massage and posing room.The lounge at the front of the building is very nice and well made and a great place to eat or relax after a workout. Alright you want a badass gym?! no matter what age you are or they way you look. THIS IS THE PLACE!!! This place is hard core and the two owners are really respectful and helpful if you have any questions while workin out. This place is a hardcore gym, playing loud music and the energy in the gym just makes you wanna bust your a$$! This ain't no Anytime fitness quite and everybody is weird and stares this place is where you get down & dirty using chalk for better grip & sweating like no other. No one is judging what you look like or whatever. Everyone goes to the gym for the same reason! YOU WANT TO LOOK GOOD! Come to this gym and it will make you feel like you can conquer the world! I've always heard the hype about this gym - expectations exceeded! There is something about the grit in the air that really pulls a new level of drive and determination from inside your core. This is the gym that definitely gets you in the mood to get going. It's one hundred percent pure iron motivation. The owners Ryan and Chris are awesome! If you're not familiar with the machines, they are always willing to help and show you how the machines are used. Eardrum piercing nonsense blasted throughout the facility 24/7. Completely understand the need for music to get hyped, but at a certain point it becomes absurd. There's no need to sacrifice your hearing for the sake of making progress in the gym. There's nothing "hardcore" about going deaf. Also the owner actively tried to discourage my comrade Nathaniel Habetemariam from signing up, and suggested he'd be better off at a ballet school. They have extremely useful equipment you will not find anywhere else, but unless you're a serious powerlifter or athlete there is no need to subject yourself to the torture that is Metroflex Plano for the sake of increasing your gains. read more

Super friendly and knowledgable staff. The gym has a variety of machines and all the free weights you'll ever need. I'm on crutches and they made sure to make me feel welcomed as a visitor for the week and give me a walk through. They acknowledge you when you walk in and and tell you to have a good night when you leave and are there if you have any questions about any workouts. Really enjoyed training there while I was staying in Plano for the week. Great music and sound system and the environment makes you want to push your boundaries and give it your all. If you're staying anywhere close to this gym it's deff worth the drive to go there. read more

I came to this gym almost a year ago and it's become a inseparable part of my life. Though it's intimidating at first you'll quickly feel welcomed and normal. I now have great friends and a family here. A home away from home. The "cliques" will gladly accept you and help with whatever you need. The amount of equipment with helps with whatever sport you are in. The gym keeps expanding and becoming better and better. New equipment comes in regularly.
