Recently updated equipment. Very well outfitted and maintained. Decent value. The downside is that the plumbing sucks. Showers take forever to get above ice cold. Today no hot water. Whoever designed the plumbing here was clueless. I'm looking for an alternative because of the water situation. read more

Well, here I am six years later writing yet another review for the gym I came back to. Six years ago, I left for crunch gyms in downtown Scranton. Exceptional facility but I just wasn't a fan of traversing the downtown traffic and parking in a parking garage that got backed up during work hours. I returned to a Planet Fitness with some updated machines, the same layout, and unfortunately the same major issue that made me walk away from it six years ago. Let me be perfectly clear here, I have a gym membership for one reason and that is to go on the treadmill for about an hour to an hour and a half every other day. During that time, I like to put on my iPhone and catch up on streaming shows or movies. Six years later, I am still running into the same instances of Planet Fitness having some of the worst Wi-Fi imaginable. The Wi-Fi simply cannot handle the bandwidth whether it's on a low amount of foot traffic day or when the gym is fairly crowded it's always the same result. Buffering, pixelated images, and videos that simply freeze in the middle of viewing. The Wi-Fi is an advertised offering of the gym, but what's the point of offering this to its paying customers when it's barely functional the way it is. I am less than a month into my new membership and I'm already regretting my decision. I'd rather fight the traffic of downtown Scranton and return to Crunch Fitness than have to deal with an establishment they can't fulfill advertised perks or offerings to its members..............STILL. I am still in disbelief that this is still an issue all these years later. read more

Signing up was a a Bi$ch. Who doesn't take credit cards for payment. They required a bank account routing number and account number on top of a credit card. Also girl who signed me up was a cold fish. I just signed up black card for a year atleast smile and say something nice very unsympathetic for having to come back with bank info either. Shout Out to Sabrina at the front desk for being a total sweetheart who always seems so happy to greet you with her big bright adorable smile & eyes On another note: The men's shower stalls can be f@#*ing disgraceful at times due to the level of immuture patrons in & out of them, bunch of grown-ass dudes acting like mommy n daddy still need to clean up after their nasty asses. Grow the f*** up please and pick up your empty containers, your used shower caps, your f***ing user dental floss picks off the shower floor, your random hairballs all over the f***ing drains... Nobody wants to walk into that disgracefulness and lack of decency and total lack of consideration for others who come after you. First of all, they are the exact opposite of a "no judgement zone". They have lunkheads that hog every machine for a half hour at a time. Guys and skin tight outfits posing in front of the mirrors and taking pictures. Second of all when I tried to cancel my membership, they make me do it in person. I changed my checking account number and somehow they were able to attach to my credit card. It's like a time share.. read more

I don't really see staff other than at the front desk. If they walked around, especially in the mornings, they could talk to the groups of older men (2-4) that gather around in the 30 minute workout section to gossip pretty much on the daily. It keeps one from being able to complete a workout, and you get eyed the entire time. The gym is clean. Ladies locker room can get messy. There's plenty of workout machines. Obviously free weight side gets pretty busy, but I do like the newer layout. Especially the adult jungle gym area. Everyone seems pretty pleasant. Would recommend. PF employees just need to chase the gaggle of roosters in the back away. read more

Called to update my account after a surgery in october. In october i set my account on suspension and also set it up that i wouldn't renew in the new year. Was greeted by GM "mike" who question every statement i made then got offended i was offend that he "wouldn't take the word of customer" being that the gentlemen i dealt with in october is no longer with the company. Mike is super unprofessional didn't take one progressive step to resolve one problem. Later spoke with a Liam who was more willing to help then mike. With all this said mike has pushed 2 customers away. my whole household will be switching gym. read more

Rude employee based on skin color ethnicity you will get carpet treatment or being literally thrown out for being a guest in the spa area. Being there a lot of times and now they got new staff with zero people skills and manners. I was relaxing on one of the massage chairs after using their exercise equipment and this female employee came out o nowhere to harass me. The Caucasian female next to me was treated with kindness and excellent service and I was asked to walk out immediately in front of the lady sitting next to me. I was told that I'm not supposed to be there without authorization like if I'm some sort of criminal. The situation was embarrassing and very uncomfortable that I felt calling for legal advice nobody deserves to be treated with so much hate and mistreated this isn't the 1950's anymore. Stay away from this place if you are native American or Hispanic. read more

I called everyday for 5 consecutive days asking for Jenna the manager and got so lucky to have had the pleasure of speaking to Paige who would not get the manager Jenna and could not have been more RUDE than she was. What an ignorant girl. It's as if I was disrupting her time by calling. Well needless to say I still haven't spoken to the manager and was hung up on TWICE by Paige....terrible customer service and returning phone calls do better!!!!! read more

4 stars Bc it's not exactly a real gym. I've had a blackcard for few years, canceled it Bc the gf also does have one, and we've been together a long time, the staff was very understanding no sense of two black cards. I am a stronger guy, have competed in few bodybuilding contest in the past, pretty much max out every machine there for over 10reps. I don't have a problem with this gym, or any of the planet fitness. Reading these negative reviews is a little hard to believe. Half of these ppl commenting probably don't even lift so what does it matter. Ppl aren't the greatest, but obviously I'm not gonna hold the gym accountable other individuals actions. It's nice to lift heavy at Peffers gym a block a way & go to there for the machines as finish exercises. read more

Very nice facility- clean and lots of equipment. Owner and Manager - please stop hiring incompetent staff. Martin at the front desk was rude and aggressive, and clearly had no customer service skills or training. I stopped in as a guest from another Planet Fitness. When asked about the lack of hot water in the woman's locker room, he responded,"I don't know, I have only been here for three days". Did he try to find someone to help him ? No. When I asked about tanning he told me (in a very rude tone) that I had to wait. After another guest asked about tanning - he informed me that I had not signed up for a tanning time on the touch screen (that I did not see and was unaware of). I said, "You never told me about that or informed me of the process". Trying to get in to tan was another problem. The computer did not recognize my member ID. Martin used his own personal gym card to get me in (very unprofessiona). then after I got undressed and laid in the bed for 5 minutes- realized he had not turned the bed on! I got dressed, walked out and asked him why he didn't turn it on, to which he replied, "I did- you tanned-and now your session is over!" ......what ? I went back to tan after his coworker got the bed going- and on my way to the bed Martin screamed, "I don't have a problem with customer service, I have a problem with you !!" I turned to look and this poor guy looked like his head was going to explode. Martin.....you aren't in charge of national security....you work behind a desk at a gym. He clearly should not be client facing. He does not know how to treat clients and has no clue what he is doing. Needless to say....I will not be back and will not recommend. Before writing this I read some of the other reviews. I'm amused at what the criticisms were: problems with wifi, problems with price. I pay ten dollars a month for 24/7 access to tons of excersise equipement and opportunity. Wifi? It's genenrous of the gym to try to provide wifi but the gym is for excercising. I personally resent members sitting on (occupying) equipment and not excercising while looking at their cellphone. That is especially annoying in the " 30 Minute Express Workout" area. I use that area as it was designed to be used. A 30 minute workout is a brilliant idea for older excercisers like me. When I ask members who are sitting on a machine to vacate so that I can use it to do one set of reps within the "express" circuit, they say something like "I have three more sets" and then go back to looking at their cell phone. When I explain that I'm doing the "express" workout, I'm often met with disdain and disbelief that I would ask them to use a machine that they think they own at that moment. I've given up trying to do the Express workout as it was designed and try to work around other members because of the reaction I've gotten. I don't get that workout done in 30 minutes but I try. The staff understands the problem but doesn't want to do anything effective about it. Having said all this, the staff is great and Planet Fitness is the best deal in gyms. I love this gym. The other criticisms about price and wifi seem to me absurd when comparing Planet Fitness to any other gym ideas/availability and pricing. read more

I walked in and signed up for 10 bucks a month and specifically asked if this was month to month with no contract. I was assured there was no contract and I could cancel anytime. Lies, lies, lies. Was charged in March 2 days before they shut down for Covid. Went back in July to cancel and was advised by their employee to freeze my account and I would be notified when I got charged again. Never happened. Come to find out the person who advised me to freeze my account was the manager. Was charged today and went to cancel my membership and was told by the manager I was not getting a refund. Manager said it was owned corporately and there was no one else I could speak to regarding this. I called their customer service line and was told it they are independently owned and operated. Very dishonest place. Manager could care less about my concerns or my issues. She rolled her eyes at me when I was telling her my story. Clearly has no sense to realize the mask doesn't cover her eyes. I'm sure the reason for that is the amount of people they have tricked and are upset by how they operate. Will never join again and will make sure I share this everyone I know. The only thing worse than a thief is a liar. read more

Hi. I've been a member of planet fitness for years. I'm sad to say that I had to recently cancel my membership for 2 reasons. 1, the facility doesn't have enough gym equipment or facilities to cater to the people that go to the gym. 2, some of the staff members are rude and under trained to resolve a problem with customer service. I was over charged due to a system error at the gym's computer. After being told 3 times to "call back in 30 minutes," and having to go into the gym and be told by 2 people that they didn't know how to resolve the issue, I decided to cancel my membership. read more

For $10 a month I am extremely happy with Planet Fitness in Scranton! It is convenient to get to as I go on my lunch hour. The staff are always pleasant and friendly, and I have complimented them on how they are always keeping the place clean and/or maintaining the machines. Right now they are getting ready to close for construction and my routine will be totally messed up until they reopen, so I'm really hoping that they reopen sooner than the estimated 10 day closure. I am looking forward to working out in the newly updated facility. read more

Very unprofessional and workers are rude. Called to ask about my account and all she kept saying is "I don't understand what you are asking/talking about". I asked when did I sign my contract, which was 2019. I asked why I have never received an email or anything stating that the year was up and it was/is getting renewed. Their response was "we don't tell you we just keep charging your card". How is that legal? I asked to have my statements emailed to me showing from 2019-2021 of each moths payments, her response "we can not email them, you have to come to the gym to pick them up" I then asked to have them mailed to me as I do not feel comfortable going to the gym with covid or that I did not want to go out of my way to get something that could be emailed/mailed, next response "we don't mail anything ever, we don't have stamps". How is this my fault that you make all this money and can not afford a stamp? It's 2021 people, you can email me my stuff and or afford a stamp. Girl on the phone was very rude. Straight forward basic set-up. I just needed a place to duck out of the cold during the winter single digits. I have my own fitness space. My only critique would be to fix all the bike seats.....the front is broken off nearly every one. Some of the treadmills need fixing as well. I initially joined as a strength training beginner. I liked the amenities, the 24hours, and the price ($19.99 a month), but after a few months I've noticed how unprofessional & immature the staff is and half the time lazy! I was asked if I minded cleaning someone else's sweat from the tanning bed before I used it! Yes, I mind! Others at the desk seem miserable and rude, but they all look like kids! This place is a joke. I called to see if I could drop in while in town for a quick workout. The girl on the phone refused to answer my question, insisting on informing me on membership options. Sorry, thankfully I do not live in bumblefuck, PA any more so I don't need to actually join... after I asked several times and she refused to answer, I just hung up. Avoid. This particular location is bad. Idk how other PFs are but this one has leaks in the roof all over when it rains, which is solved by them putting wet floor signs and cones down and not cleaning the water up. Oh and there's stuff falling off the walls. They refuse to fix the wifi which has been broken for months. Only go here if you only want cardio, cuz the weight training options are limited. Free weights only to 60lbs and all the benches are taken during busy times. read more

I have been a member for 4 years and love this gym! The cost is great, the staff is friendly and the equipment is top shelf! I have been a member at other gyms and this place tops them all. Highly recommended!! read more
