About $14.50 after tax. About 15 inches in size.

Got a pizza delivery to my hotel just across the street from SUNY Albany. Took about an hour from the time I ordered and the pizza was plenty hot. Delivery driver was friendly and the pizza itself, I would definitely order again. Delivery was free, but don't be a cheapo; tip well. Large pizzas are about 14 to 15 inches and expect to pay about a dollar per inch if you do one topper. Specialty pizzas are obviously higher in price. Overall, the pizza is definitely not a NY style pie, but is thicker and denser in crust. At the first glance it looks like a frozen pizza, but it does not at all taste like one. Lots and lots of cheese, so if you like lotsa cheese ona your pizza pie, you'll like there's. Toppings were a little sparse and could've used more to make me happier. The top could've also been crispier, though the pizza was not undercooked at all. This is just a pizza that is not being baked in a high, high temp oven. Sauce was right on, just a little sweet, but not Papa John's sweet. Overall, a good balance of flavors and textures. I liked the sausage quite a bit as it had a little fennel in there, which I love. The pepperoni was a bit too soggy for me and needs greater heat time to get truly crispy. I found the pizza to be even better the second time around after a few minutes at 400 degrees in my toaster oven. Overall, an enjoyable pizza, reasonably priced and definitely a pizza I can see myself ordering again.

a pizza in a box

Tonight I ordered 10 lemon pepper wings, an a large cheese pizza. It seemed like my pizza had to be made with the last piece of dough in the shop it was spread so thin. The dough was not appetizing at all. I give you guys a shot every once in a while an it's always a hit an miss. I wish they were open tomorrow so I could bring it back but it's Sunday smh

The thin crisp end crust.

I've never quite seen anything like it. If a dutch baby, met a round tavern pie (like they serve at The Purple Pub, but without chopped onions in the sauce) you might get something like what's churned out daily at Albany's oldest pizzeria. This is a claim the shop makes, although I have yet to hear anyone refuting the assertion. Albany's oldest tavern is also in the same part of town, and it too is famous for a unique style of pizza. What gives with the north side of Albany and its non-traditional pizza production? Don't think for a second that this is New York Style pizza. It's not. And if you go to PJs looking for an upstate version of those downstate pies and slices, you are going to leave unhappy. But I'm of the mindset that pizza in all of it's weird and wonderful forms can be glorious. The most notable feature is the end crust, which doesn't just come to a thin edge, like the pies in Watervliet. This end crust is also turned up, creating a pie that's actually pie shaped. This shallow bowl of a pizza is great for toppings. I had high hopes for the signature white pie, but it was oddly dry. Perhaps if there were more sausage, or a heavy brushing of olive oil on the crust, this pizza could have been recommended. It would be hard to imagine that the pizza being served at PJs matches anyone's ideal for what pizza should be. That said, PJs makes a tasty pie, that should be tasted at least once and judged on its own merits. Cheese is fine, but I do think a pizza like this demands toppings. I was very happy with the mash up of Steve and Jerome's topping strategies, which puts sausage together with jalapeno peppers and bacon. But I wouldn't say not to another slice of onions, peppers, and mushroom, or the red-sauced based buffalo chicken.

Albany pizza... I don't mean that in a bad way. But if you've lived here for any length of time, you know the struggle. Lots of really uninspired pizza. Lots of pizza that can only be adequately described as "meh." And a couple of places that are pretty good. Thankfully, as far as Albany pizza goes, PJ's defies those common categories. I ordered a large half cheese/half pepperoni recently and really enjoyed it. The crust is on the thinner side (This is NOT thin crust pizza, though. I'm saying it's thin by comparison to our city's other, more legitimate pizzerias). Although the cheese was a bit oily, there weren't gobs of it. The sauce was less sweet than it seems is the norm around the city, something I was very much okay with. The crispy crust around the edges was really great. There is just something about the flavor that only pans that have been in and out of ovens for years can provide. We also tried the mozzarella sticks, which were nothing special. PJ's has super reasonable prices by comparison to many others. My only gripe is that the telephone line was busy for over twenty minutes when I called to place an order. I ended up just going to the shop, ordering, and waiting. Their service was prompt, though, as our food arrived after only a 15 minute wait. I look forward to returning to PJ's.

Classic pizza and wings. Those guys and gals work hard and manage to crank out dozens of orders every night. I would definitely recommend.

Better than most but not quite there. Too doughy, too much cheese. Ok. Next time I'll order it extra thin, crispy and lighter on cheese.

This is the oldest and best pizzeria in Albany. They have the crispiest crust and the best sauce. You won't be disappointed.

This place came up with great reviews, albeit only a couple so far, and we decided to check it out. We drove to the location, which had limited street parking, but we were able to find a spot using my parallel parking skills, then we headed inside. It was a small place, with 2 tables that each sat 4. The TV was on, and we chatted with the guy on the counter who shared a menu with us. In the end we settled for a traditional cheese and pepperoni pizza. No one was using the tables, and we decided to eat in rather than head back to our hotel. We chatted and waited for our pizza, which was done quick and was delicious! Everything you could want from a thin new york style pizza. Good amount of cheese, charred pepperoni, not overcooked or burnt, the crust was soft and delicious. The service was awesome. Every worker we spoke to was nice and personable, without being annoying, over the top or in the way. We were offered silverware and plates, and enjoyed our pizza, before needing a box despite it being so good. I would definitely consider heading back here the next time i'm in Albany, great food AND great service at a reasonable price, what more could you want?

I haven't been to this original location on 4th St. in Troy for a few years. The family operation is nearly 100 years old. Remarkably, it's very much as I remember it. A tiny place with three tables. Some of the seating looks like repurposed church pews. The youthful staff, friendly as always. They were running into some delays as orders came pouring in just before dinnertime. They'd have to check to see if they could fit our order for a big pizza with pepperoni, mushrooms, onions and peppers. They squeezed us in! Since the wait would be between 20-30 minutes we kept ourselves busy by checking out the desserts in the self serve refrigerator. I picked out a slice of "hangover" (alcohol) cake and I devoured it before our meal arrived. It was so delicious and naughty fun to eat our dessert before the meal. The pizza was fantastic when it arrived. I prefer crisp crusts-- this one was not-- but it was awesome just the same. My friend and I were so hungry that we consumed half of the pie before I realized that we hadn't photographed our delicious pizza. The remaining half was boxed and taken home to be enjoyed for a couple more days. The staff was so ready. They came to our table with the box and we settled up our bill. A lot to be said for tradition and quality. I've also visited DeFazio's in Albany, but I have yet to visit the relatively new restaurant up the block. Thanks, DeFazio's, for another great meal.
