Where is the best slice of pizza? Well, that depends. Which shops are closest to you when you need a slice the most? There is a great joy to having a local slice shop. A place where you feel at home. It's your shop. You enjoy the highs. You weather the lows. And you get to know the pizza deeply. For a long time, The Pizza King was our local shop in Schenectady. When the king himself passed away, the place was just no longer the same. I Love may not have the same magic, but this shop makes a solid slice. The crisp bottom is unmarred by the telltale cross hatches of a pizza screen. Crust bubbles exist and they are glorious. The crust itself has decent flavor, and the end crust has a reasonable lift. My whole family appreciates the judicious application of sauce. It's hard to walk the line of just enough, but not too much. I can't tell you how many times I'm called into service to scrape extra sauce off my daughter's slice at other shops. Is it brilliant? Not quite. But it's good enough to keep bringing us back week after week. That's no small feat. And now, it feels like home.

a salad in a plastic container

I ordered a grilled chicken salad online actually 2 of them. it was $50 for two salads.. I decided to pick it up. I specified that I wanted extra cucumber. Upon picking up the salads i was told that they refused to do extra cucumber.as rude as that is I pay the $29 and leave. When I got home, 5mins away, and my salad is all lettuce, no cucumbers at all! My food experience is ruined and I should have gotten a refund when they refused to make my food they way I asked. NEVER EVER WILL I SUPPORT THIS BUSINESS AGAIN!

I Love NY Pizza of Schenectady.

The "I Love" experience. Usually when I go there it's chaotic but the business is prompt. Parking can be tough and there is limited available seating in the Dining room....if you can call it that. Hehe. Anyway...I don't think I have ever stayed there to eat. I always pickup and run. Generally I feel their pizza pie comes out great. I love NYC style pizza and usually they get it pretty close. Lately, though, I don't know what is going on. The last three to four times ordering from there, I have experienced burnt pizza both on the crust and bottom. That just seems to ruin my experience. Anyone who knows me knows my natural aversion to anything remotely be-speckled by the black ash. I think it goes back to the days when my dad would make toast, and he always had a knack for burning it and then serving it- saying it still tastes good. Eat it. (Did I mention he likes pretty much all types of bread, seasoned with black dust??) But I digress. I just prefer not to have charcoal flavored pizza, maybe that's just me. Hopefully they can figure that problem out soon. Maybe their oven temp is hotter than their thermometer is reading...Maybe they get too busy and forget to take it out in time and they don't care...Maybe they are thinking "Hey we mostly serve high-school and college kids, they have indiscriminate taste...so they won't care." Well some of us do care and not all of us are college kids anymore. As an aside, I had a slice of BBQ chicken pizza with my wife and that wasn't burnt. Usually it's not the specialty pizza's that are effected, seems to happen to me more with the cheese and pepperoni variety. Too bad, because that's my favorite. I love, I LOVE NY Pizza. It's just time they get their act together once again. Please OH PLEASE check your pizza before it's too late. I will update this review at a later date and see if they have resolved the pizza burning issue. I haven't given up on them.

    "Cheddar fries"

pretty horrific. Fries tasted old and were cold and completely lacked flavor or crisp. Wings were soooo gross. I mean, just so mediocre and completely flavorless. Not to mention completely overpriced!!! .. we are disappointed- we were really hoping for a better experience. The food really definitely tasted old and had a shoe like quality.

    Expired or spoiled blue cheese.

Absolutely nasty! Never have I ever had a calzone this greasy!! The blue cheese was spoiled! Pictures attached. Make your own choice. Mine ended up going in the trash.

Boring flavorless sauce, rock hard crust and a $28 price for a large pizza. With so many other good choices in town, just pick someone else.

This location has been the home to All In The Family Pizza (moved), Roman's Pizzeria & Deli, and Tasty Pizzeria. I stopped by Poppy's Pizzeria for a quick bite. The place was quite busy with the phone ringing. To make things quick, I got the 2 Pizza Slices with Topping & 20 oz drink for $8 plus tax. I chose a slice of pepperoni and a slice of sausage which were heated up in the oven. There is not much seating inside, but there is ample picnic table seating outside shared with Poppy's Ice Cream. The hot pizza slices were pretty good, which had a thin firm soft and chewy crust topped with the right amount of tomato sauce, meat toppings and melted cheese. I will have to try their calzone on the next visit.

I find this place to be the pinnacle of a successful local pizzeria. The ambiance is also good. I am looking for a location that sells a good variety of slices, has sit-down tables which you actually want to sit in (no rocking tables and dirty floors for me), and has friendly staff. We recently came here again while in the area and I rediscovered it. It is definitely the best... bar none. They expanded next door into a location previously used by H&R Block, and the increased dining space is wonderful. The variety of slices they had at lunch is staggering, and not just the usual suspects either. They had eggplant lasagna pizza; chicken Fra Diavolo pizza with hot peppers (yum!); mac & cheese pizza with or without Buffalo chicken; salad pizza; etc. All looked good, and my Fra Diavolo pizza has become my favorite here. Of note: their Hawaiian pizza is a white pizza (no sauce), which is extremely unusual, but they provided a cup of sauce on the side which restored balance to the galaxy. I should point out that every Italian restaurant has their own style of red sauce: some are too acidic, some are too salty, some are too heavy with dried herbs, and some don't use enough. This place has a sauce which is similar to my Grandmas (the best!), and it is salty and acidic and oily and delicious. I could see myself parking in a chair one afternoon with a good book and slowly trying slice after slice. Since we live only about 20 minutes away, I think I will need to make the trek up to here more often.

They need to bottle it. I'd buy some. My friend had the Mac and cheese and an espresso martini. He loved both. Rachelle was our server. She was wonderful. Very helpful. Kudos and compliments to the chef on the quality of the marinara sauce which is pleasantly chunky and flavorful, and it even has bits of fresh basil. It is superior to many sauces made/served in some Italian restaurants. It was so good that I am a little embarrassed to reveal that I ate one small container that was included with a spoon.
